It's good to know that it wasn't just my imagination (about the new
driver giving me better input noise performance).

no advice really. of course you could do all that business of rearranging
the pci card in a different slot and see what happens. with gina it is
kinda hit miss or luck when it all works right. my gina has been giving me
good performance on the 90db input side for two months now, which happens
to be about the same amount of time that the 305 driver has been out.
before that, i was ready to sell the bitch.

Hi John

Thanks for the response

Yeah you're right about the Gina being inexpensive. It doesn't worry
me excessively to have a S/N ratio of -85 as compared to -90dB, as I'm
only using the analogue inputs to record the outputs of a couple of
effects units and an analogue keyboard, all submixed through a
relatively noisy small mixer. What does worry me is the way the noise
performance keeps changing! All the figures I've quoted are with
nothing plugged into the inputs at all. Perhaps it's something to do
with the power supply or something in my PC? Any ideas?

wich goes to show you the card is great, but the software event sent us was
s h i t! they should have always allowed easy manual adjustment of the
gain/trim. this auto crap don't cut it. so thank goodness for 305 driver.

i'm always nervous about something that is an inexpensive as gina. there
is always a catch somewhere. in this 85ish range you are getting in can't
say i see that with mine, however my mackie out is about 86 or so on my
gina so i wouldn't worry too much. still it would be nice to see 90 with
everything turned down eh? i suggest adjusting the analog line in a couple
more notches. currently mine is set at -3. works great after serveral
hours of different stuff coming into my gina via the mackie.

[gina-users] analogue noise floor

1998-08-04 Thread Gareth

 i get a -90db noise floor on
> my gina, which i consider excellent. the lucid, by the way had a floor of
> -84db! not good for a dedicated unit that costs more than one gina card.

The noise floor I get from my Gina's analogue ins seems to be
variable. When I first got the card it was around -65dB! I sent the
card back and got a new one, but it was still -65dB. As I wasn't
using the analogue ins at the time, I didn't worry abut it too much,
thinking I'd try and sort it out when I needed to use them. Then I
installed v.3.05, and the noise floor went down to -90.3! That was
great, but in the last few days it's gone back up to -85ish. Has
anyone else experienced this sort of variable performance? It's
making me nervous...

I've also noticed that the noise performance of the analogue ins
seems to have something to do with what's connected to the digital
I/O. When my sampler is connected to the gina via S/PDIF, the noise
floor goes up to around -80dB.

Any ideas?
