[Goanet]Nature Cures - Melinda Powell

2004-02-08 Thread Jose Colaco
Dear Melinda,

Thanks for your response.

Just a couple of words I try to tell myself - Beware
of snake oil vendors.

While snake oil merchants are present in all forms
of medicine, they seem to abound in the arena of the
so called Natural Cures.

In closing, let's remember that there are good and bad
doctors; and well and inappropriately prescibed
medications esp antibiotics and psychiatric
medications.

Dear Jose,

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your reply and believe
me, I learned new things. It was my first mail on
goanet, I didnt mean to stir up a hornet's nest or
rather a bee's hive(honey related)

My comments were written on the spur of the moment, no
sources, no websites. It was a reaction, because we
recently had an illness in the family, spent a lot of
money, and I witnessed the effects of the prolonged use
of allopathy.

No,I did not give my kids honey as infants, thanks for
your concern. At present I use a little bit of honey
to knock of the harsh taste of ginger juice. I did
check the careful parents website. Thanks.

When I suggested natural cures,I meant home remedies
from natural sources, grandma's remedies for minor
ailments. Also sometimes, when cases are terminal, and
even the doctors give up,what harm is there in trying
out natural known remedies ?

About the longevity of our forefathers,I do admit,my
information is anecdotal. They did die because of lack
of vaccines and medical know-how, but they didnt have
to cope with stress, hypertension problems related
to modern times. They breathed pure air, didnt have to
cope with pollution, and they did a lot more physical
activity than we do, today.

I am a commited Christian by choice. I do believe God
has good plans for his people. Illness is a part of
human life, and I do believe that the good Lord gives
us the courage and strength to cope.

Regards,
Melinda

PS: I hope you realise that a Portuguese passport is
not very useful UNLESS one is appropriately qualified
to compete on the open market in the West OR one is
independently wealthy. In the latter case, one will be
in fairly good shape anywhere one goes.

RESPONSE: The many several Goans with Portuguese passports, residing in
Swindon, England would hotly dispute that a Portuguese passport is not very
useful. They perceive Swindon Town a land of milk and honey and many more of
their relations and friends from Goa are joining them. Only draw back is
that some have to put up with 6/7 to a room! What is happening to the
economy of Goa that people are lining up to do packaging of foods?

Cheers.

[Goanet]TidBits -

2004-02-08 Thread raj
TidBits - An Experience of walking down the Miramar Beach for the first
time.

The other day, armed with the press statement (VRS or RSS), most copies of
which had been delivered to the various newspapers by my party colleagues,
and, as I had a trip that evening to Panjim to meet a friend for dinner, I
volunteered to deliver a few to the some of the newspapers myself. I
finished a bit early in my distribution work and I found myself with almost
an hour to spare before I met my friend for dinner. And what better way than
to kill my time than strolling on the Miramar Beach? Besides, except for
once, during the Miramar beach food festivals a long time ago, when Lorna
was singing, I had never in my lifetime walked down on this beach.
Calangute, Baga, Anjuna, Morjim, Colva, Betul, you name it, I have been
there. During school picnics, I have romped on most of the Goan beaches,
plucked , nay robbed coconuts to impress school mates and done things that
todays kids will only dream about. I have been all around the world's
beaches, Copa Cabana in Rio, Brazil, Las Palmas, Casa Blanca, Algiers,
Portofino/ San Margarita in Italy, Singapore, Penang, you name it I was
there. And it all came to me when I was strolling on the Miramar beach with
my shoes on. It was sunset and the scene was absolutely beautiful with the
Aguada light-house flashing, the Raj Bhavan lit with thousand lights, boat
cruises doing the rounds with ear splitting music, ore barges chugging along
laden and empty and the ships at anchor triggering memories of high seas
sailings of a lifetime. What the heck, I had not walked bare feet on the
water's edge in a long time. By this time I was at the Marriot's end.
Squatting on the man made rock, I shed my shoes and socks, and shoes in hand
I walked , trouser legs folded, at the water's edge until I reached Aivo
village on the other side. And I could feel the happiness of all the
tourists and their kids who were dancing in ankle deep water. There was
hardly much crowd on the beach at this hour and it was godly.

And then it suddenly struck me like a bolt of lightening. What if we had
allowed Manohar Parrikar, Suresh Parulekar and Rina Ray to have their dreams
come through and privatize this beach and make it into a veritable hell? I
thanked God for making me sit in the EDC conference hall with the video
clicking away and letting Nandkumar Kamat have it. Telling him this idea was
nothing but a money making racket. And he in turn ordering the video
recording person to strike it off. I remembered how pale I made Rina Ray
at the Rotary Club when I repeated the same, Dr. J C Almeida asking me to
withdraw my statement, and Rina Ray promising to send me a Legal Notice. And
how I turned around to tell her to make my day. I remembered how she then
sat on the dais with her head in her hands. And I visualized the din and
the mess this peaceful Miramar beach would have been if Panjimites did not
oppose the monstrosity of privatizing this lovely serene beach. Lost in deep
thoughts, I lost a lot of mental weight and felt refreshed that only a
peaceful and serene beach can do. And that is when I realized that I had
shot past the time I was supposed to meet my friend Ben Antao at the Delmon
Hotel. And the first thing I did when Ben opened the door is to say
Thank You Ben. Why thank me? Was Ben's automatic query. Because, I
said you gave me the chance to walk on the Miramar beach at the water's
edge for the first time in my entire life, that is why.

Cheers
Floriano

[Goanet]Media, politicians, open governance, transparency... and agendas

2004-02-08 Thread Frederick Noronha (FN)

We're getting into the usual track -- blame the media for everything that
goes wrong in Goa. I'm the first to concede the many failings of the media,
but to presume that everything going wrong is due to manipulation or
agenda-based writing is a simplistic understanding of the field.

There are many other factors that lead to a less-than-optimum functioning of
almost every field in Goa, not just the media. To discuss this would require
an entire book -- and after hearing such a half-baked criticism of the media
repeatedly, we did just that. Our e-book on the media in Goa was put out on
the Internet for free download in October 2003. See www.goenkar.com or its
archived versions.

Some issues:

1. Are you sure it was the Rane government that took the decision over
Anjediva? I thought it was the Ravi Naik government that presided over the
signing of the handing-over...

2. Governments, anywhere in the world, won't and can't make into an election
campaign issue a decision they might have to take up once in power. Probably
they didn't even know when this issue would come up. Where I would agree is
that major decision -- e.g. permissions to grant casinos licences in Goa --
should be debated prior to approval. At least in the Assembly. This is
specially true of decisions that make a fundamental shift. The problem is
with our lack of transparency systems, and poverty of other systems, that
allows any government or politician to sneak in a decision without anyone
noticing it here. This has happened even in countries like the UK, over as
important an issue like going to war in Iraq. Whatever the latest report
might say about it... Of course, there the BBC sniffed out the story; but it
was too late to have any impact.

3. The issue is not whether the MLAs/MPs are salaried or not. Just by mere
fact of holding public office, they wield tremendous clout and can influence
public policy majorly. Even if they don't earn a paise by way of salary, it
would not make a difference to the fact that they have responsibilities to
the citizen.

4. Instead of bashing the press -- of course criticism is required, but
first get the priorities of criticism right -- it would really help if a
fora like Goanet looked positively towards a unique act like the Right to
Information Act of 1997, see what's happening about it, why it's not being
implemented in letter and spirit, and what can be done to leverage this to
get a cleaner administration and a press that is more able to prise out
stories that matter. FN

PS: I hope I've not been quoted in any website out of context, as has
happened in the past. I'd prefer not to be quoted... anyone wanting to
follow the discussion could simply check up the Goanet archives -- and read
the same without additional comment, undue extra emphasis, and selective
excerpting that give an incorrect impression of what we're saying.

[Goanet]Goa Media Watch: No jobs in Goa for Goans

   Jose Colaco [EMAIL PROTECTED]

 --

 Goa Media Watch:

Democracy is best defined as Government of the people,
for the people and by the people.

It follows then that ALL decisions about a people and
place are taken by the people. It also follows that
ALL major decisions are taken ONLY AFTER adequate
 consultation with the people.

If the people are appropriately informed, and the
majority agree, INFORMED CONSENT of the people would
then have been obtained. (Informed Consent may also be
obtained by campaigning on certain issues. e.g. IF the
Rane Congress Government had campaigned to be
re-elected on the platform that they would hand over
Anjediva to the Indian Navy, the Rane Government's
decision to hand over Goa to the Indian Navy - would
have been agreed to by way of informed consent.
 BUTit wasn't..!)

In most non-major matters, decisions are taken by
elected and SALARIED representatives of the people.
These decisions are best taken after an open debate in
the People's House (Parliament) with adequate
 discussion in the Press.

Hence, it is very important that the Press be kept on
its toes. and Keep track of what the Goa Media is
telling us: Revision, fact, fiction, whitewash,
 brainwash, or agenda-based masala.

Taking a cue from today's global trade in poppies of the golden triangle in
the south-east and the golden crescent in the western part of Asia, this
lecture seeks to examine the role of Indian opium, known to cause
unrelenting damage to Chinese health, which paved the way for the Opium
Wars
and European imperialism in China, in the making of two colonial cities of
Panjim and Bombay.

Opium from Malwa was smuggled to Daman, Diu and Goa and exported to Macao
and China in the early nineteenth century. But the curious part is that
much
of the architecture, physical infrastructure and efforts towards improving
coastal hygiene in the emerging capital of Panjim were a gift of this drug
trade. So also much of the munificence of nineteenth century Parsi
philanthropists like Jamshetjee Jeejeebhoy towards pioneering hospitals,
colleges and sanitaria in Bombay came from profits earned through the opium
trade. Strange indeed is the link which colonial powers and philanthropic
traders often found between money from drug trade and efforts to improve
society.

Dr. Celsa Pinto is Deputy Director of Education at the Directorate of
Education, Goa. She is the author of Trade and Finance in Portuguese India
(New Delhi, 1994), Goa: Images and Perceptions, Studies in Goan History
(Goa, 1996), Situating Indo-Portuguese Trade History, A Commercial
Resurgence 1770 - 1830 (Kannur, 2003) and several research papers on the
economic history of Portuguese India.

[Goanet]TidBits - Re Nitoll Jinn Trust Workshop on curbing

2004-02-08 Thread goasuraj
TidBits-Re: Nitoll Jinn Trust Workshop on Curbing Corruption

It was my pleasure for having been invited to the above workshop organized
by the Nitoll Jinn Trust (Clean Life) by its Chairman Mr. Aravind Bhatikar.
The full day workshop was held on the 7th. February, 2004 at the
International Centre, Dona Paula-Goa, which saw eminent personalities such
as Mr. P Shankar, Central Vigilance Commissioner, Delhi; Mr. Jolio Ribeiro,
IPS (Retd); Dr. Pai Panandiker, Trustee, The International Centre; Justice J
F Couto, former Chairman, Anti-Corruption Commission, Govt of Goa (now
extinct); Mr. P G Kakodkar, former chairman, State Bank of India; Gen Sunit
F. Rodrigues (Retd); Mr. S K Srivastava, President, Great Eastern Shipping
Co. Ltd., Mumbai; Mr. Yatindr Kakodkar, President CII; Mr. Santosh Kenkre,
GCCI; Mr. Alban Couto, I.A.S (Retd); Mr. Rajan Narayan, Editor Goan
Observer; Mr. Jayant Chhya, Dir. International Centre; Adv. Bernard D'
Souza, Trustee NJT; Adv. Uday Bhembre, Trustee, NJT and Auda Viegas, Vice
Chairperson, NJT.

The workshop, I must say, was flawlessly organized, with house packed to
capacity, tea/coffee being served and with a well spread buffet lunch.

It was an interesting inaugural speech by Mr. Shankar. I for one did not
know the difference between 'National' and 'Central' as prefixes to the
organizations. Thanks to Mr. Shankar, I now know that 'Central' meaning only
having jurisdiction over the Central Government affairs and National
meaning having jurisdiction over national affairs. A very big difference
indeed. And to think that we were getting disillusioned with the CVC
(Central Vigilance Commission) all this while for not taking any interest in
our absolutely rotten and corrupt politicians in Goa who have amassed
fortunes through manipulative politics. It simply does not have the
jurisdiction. Happy hunting for Nitoll Jinn Trust though.

I was restive during the long delivery of the specially written speech by
Justice J F Couto. When one knows a hypocrite and when one is forced to
endure the written high-fundas, one begins to shift in one's chair. No
sooner did I get a chance to demolish Justice Couto as the former Chairman
of the Anti-Corruption Commission in the interactive session, I asked him
just this one question. DURING YOUR TENURE AS THE CHAIRMAN OF THE
COMMISSION, HOW MANY CASES DID YOU SUCESSFULLY CONCLUDE WITH CONVICTIONS,
HOW MANY GOT THROWN OUT AND HOW MANY NEVER GOT ADMITTED?. Ofcourse he had
no answers. I wanted to tell him that the commission he headed only paid for
his upkeep and perks and that he was the chamcha of the Government and the
poltiticians which saw zero convictions (atleast to my knowledge). But this
I kept to myself. And he was telling the audience that people were afraid
to come up to the commission and that those who came forward were rank
liars. I have been told that Justice Couto step down the staircase of the
Court after hearing his last case (retirement) to be accosted with all the
lawyers standing outside to give him a clap-down. Was it Thank You for
going???

Mr. Julio Ribeiro started his delivery with I do not like to be called a
Super Cop, because a lot of rascals go by that term now a days That,
ofcourse, made my day. Then he went on to tell us how rotten and corrupt the
Mumbai politicians are including Chagan Bujpal. If I am not mistaken, he
connected him to the Telgi scam. He has given a short in the arm for those
in the audience who are real fighters against corruption. Do not fight your
battles alone is his advice. Go with numbers Corrupt slime balls get
heart attacks when they are accosted by numbers is what he was saying. So I
have made up my mind to do just that. It is the Collector (North) Mr. S S
Keshkamat, who gave a blanket permission to Manohar Parrikar to show off
his ladla big mouth Pramod Mahajan at the Mapusa Taxi stand yesterday,
inconveniencing thousands of regular commuters, shopkeepers, vendors, taxi
drivers etc. He allowed the ladla BJP to use the main Mapusa street as a
conference hall replete with chairs from 2 pm till 8 pm. What audacity!! If
this was Kolkata, these guys would have been in hospitals with broken backs
and the Collector out of his office. We will see that this audacity does
not happen again, ever, in Mapusa, even if ladlas like Advani and Vajpayee
happen to come to Mapusa. Let them blow their spit in some out of the way
field or something. And it would be a shame if those thousands who got
inconvenienced yesterday, ever voted for these rascals of the saffron
brigade who have no respect for their rights.

The delivery of Dr. Pai Panandiker was more of a self praise for having been
around with eminent people of high office. If B Y Bandare of the BJP was in
the audience, he would have asked him to TALK LESS AND DO MORE. In case of
Dr. Panandiker, the time for doing is over, I guess. It is time for
spreading the feathers like a peacock.

Mr. P.G. Kakodkar was so short in his delivery that I

[Goanet]Re: [brittos] Britto fete this weekend...

2004-02-08 Thread Miguel Braganza
Dear Fred,

Britto's Fete is going great guns. Plenty of promo stalls...from Aviance and
Banks to insurance and watches. There are also game stalls and the
traditional magnet...the wheel of fortune. I am happy that the prizes are
non-intoxicating and still happier that natural fruit juices have made their
appearance. No beers even at the Casino food stall.

As you are aware, I drink all types of alcoholic drinks. I do not mind
adults drinking as much as their constitution can stand...and they can still
stand on their two feet. What I am against is educational and religious
institutions promoting consuption of alcohol among children by exposing them
to an environment in which drinks are sold in such premises. When I was the
Britto's PTA Secretary in 1996 with Fr.Abraham as the President and
Mrs.Indira Costa as the Chairperson, the school had a fete without alcohol
.It is nice to see it that way even today.

Our local church started on the wrong foot around the same time and took
much longer to hesitantly accept this view , after the then venerable Padre
Vigario had put flowery adjectives to my name. The current Padre Vigario
follows the legacy of alcohol-free Quermesse that could come about only
because a young priest, Fr.Adriao, showed his predecessor how a
well-organized event can raise more funds without alcohol as compared to a
badly organized one with it.

There was music from L'ace [ part of it ,unfortunately and obviously,
sequenced]on Saturday. Lawry belted one of the old time Latino favourites
to make up with a foot-tapping exit.It reminded me of the music that the
'Strangers' were famous for. This was preceded by a fancy dress, fashion show
for different age groups and genders.

This afternoon saw children doing glass painting, mehndi
applications, etc. The Mapusa group,Lynx, takes stage today. There will also
be some solo dancing and selection of Mr.Britto. Perhps, Ms.Yvette Fernandes
Pais or someone from the PTA executive will give you the official version.
The foregoing is purely the way I see it...from the window,so to say. Next
weekend, I will be in the thick of it at Mhapsa Fest. I have to protect the
glass panes,too.

See you at MHAPSA FEST.. the cultural art beat of Mapusa that has been
conceived to circulate through the town over the years to feel the pulse of
the Mhapsekars. It is inspired by the Fontainhas Festival but lays no claim
to heritage: it is just art and culture. The heritage will take care of
itself once the people are involved. Strictly NOT FOR FINANCIAL PROFIT of
self or any organization, ABSOLUTELY FOR PROFIT OF SOCIETY. A lot of persons
have sacrificed their time ,energy and effort to bring it so far. When the
time is right for us,we hope to cross the stream. We have a dream.[Adapted
from ABBA song, though we are no angels.]

Viva Mhapsa,Viva Goa.

[Goanet]Comparative history and Inquisition

2004-02-08 Thread Gilbert Lawrence
Comparative history and Inquisition:

It's always interesting to argue history and give it different
perspectives. But how does one apply that knowledge of events gone by to
the current world we live in? It is often said that history repeats
itself. More fundamentally, IN PRINCIPLE how does Portuguese-Inquisition
rule differ from Muslim-Islamic rule? Sure there are differences in
detail.

Tariq's points are well taken. There is much to be said for guilt by
association. But this is valid, as long as the same 'guilt by
association' is applied to all analysis and situations.

I hope Filomena, Tariq and Teotonio can educate us on the comparative
perspectives of the colonial Inquisition-Portuguese v/s today's
Islamic-Muslim rule with religion as a strong inspiration, influence and
effect. Gilbert.

[Goanet]jude's query about Portuguese Nationality

From: jude_ferrao [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Date: Sun Feb 8, 2004 7:08 am
Subject: agent for portuguese nationality

Hi folks,

Could somebody pls suggest a reliable agent for
applying for Portuguese Nationality. Would be most
grateful

Advance thanks.

Jude

Dear Jude,

It is refreshing to read that someone is actually
seeking Portuguese nationality as opposed to just
asking about how to obtain a Portuguese passport.

May I ask if you are

1. Applying for Portuguese nationality or
2. Applying to reaffirm you Portuguese nationality

3. Born in Goa and other parts of India or Born Abroad
4. Born in Goa before 1961 or after

May I suggest that the term reliable agent for
applying for Portuguese Nationality - is an oxymoron?

Apply yourself! and directly to the Consulate.

Expect two pitfalls (at least):

1. a merry go round in Goa
2. a distrust (in Lisbon) of India-issued documents.
There have been many many many Fake certificates from
India!

here is a good article on the subject

http://www.colaco.net/1/PauloNationality.htm

good luck

jose

PS: I hope you realise that a Portuguese passport is
not very useful UNLESS one is appropriately qualified
to compete on the open market in the West OR one is
independently wealthy. In the latter case, one will be
in fairly good shape anywhere one goes.

If all is au fait with your certificates etc .you
will find most Portuguese Consulates (in the West)
quite helpful.

 Dear Jose,

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your reply and believe me,I learned new
things. It was my first mail on goanet,I didnt mean to stir up a hornet's
 nest or rather a bee's hive(honey related)

My comments were written on the spur of the moment,no sources,no
websites.It
was a reaction, because we recently had an illness in the family, spent a
lot
of money, and I witnessed the effects of the prolonged use of allopathy.

No,I did not give my kids honey as infants, thanks for your concern. At
present I use a little bit of honey to knock of the harsh taste of ginger
juice.I did check the careful parents website.Thanks.

When I suggested natural cures,I meant home remedies from natural
 sources,grandma's remedies for minor ailments.Also sometimes,when cases
are
terminal, and even the doctors give up,what harm is there in trying out
 natural known remedies ?

About the longevity of our forefathers,I do admit,my information is
anecdotal. They did die because of lack of vaccines and medical
know-how,but
they didnt have to cope with stress, hypertension problems related to
modern times. They breathed pure air, didnt have to cope with pollution, and
they did a lot more physical activity than we do,today.

I am a commited Christian by choice.I do believe God has good plans for
his
people.Illness is a part of human life, and I do believe that the good Lord
gives us the courage and strength to cope.

 Regards,

 Melinda

We did good job only to show that, we love Remo Fernandez.
It's not because he is goan, we respect him as an international POP artiste.

As part of organizer and as they announced on stage our cabin crew..
guess what was missing in it.
We thanks IN-SAS for giving us an opportunity to witness such a celebrity

[Goanet]08 FEB 2004: GOACOM DAILY NEWS CLIPPINGS

2004-02-08 Thread Joel D'Souza
GOACOM DAILY NEWS CLIPPINGS
08 February 2004

GOA, A MODEL STATE FOR CENTRE: BJP National General Secretary Pramod Mahajan
claimed that it was Manohar Parrikar's strategy that impressed the party
leadership to go in for general polls five months ahead of schedule. Mahajan
was addressing a mammoth public meeting at the Mapusa taxi stand on Saturday
(Feb 7). Claiming that Goa has been looked as a model State by the Centre,
Mahajan claimed that the central leadership has been committed to develop
the nation on the lines of development that is seen in Goa. It is for this
reason that I am starting the election campaign from Goa, he stated. Chief
Minister Manohar Parrikar expressed confidence that Goa would repeat it
performance by having both BJP candidates elected to the Lok Sabha. (H)

IN PONDA: At a public meeting in Ponda yesterday, Mahajan claimed that the
final rites of the critically ailing Congress party would be conducted in
April-May. The huge crowd attending the meeting was drawn from the 21
constituencies representing South Goa. During his speech, Mahajan focused on
the 'feel good factor', Sonia Gandhi's foreign origin and allegations of
corruption among Congress leaders. Delhi voted all seven MPs from the BJP
party, but could not elect a chief minister, something which Goa has done,
observed Mahajan. (H)

'KONKANI MUSIC RICHEST IN THE WORLD': Konkani music is not only unique but
one of the richest in the world, said noted musicologist, Pandit Prabhakar
Chandavarkar adding that musicians from this music culture have given a new
direction to film music at the national level as well. Speaking after
inaugurating the two-day II Akhil Bharatiya Konkani Sangeet Sammelan at
Alfred Rose Nagar, at Patto grounds in Panjim on February 7, Pt Chandavarkar
said that musicians from the Konkani-speaking region have greatly
contributed to the film music in the country particularly in Mumbai
(Bollywood), Kolkata, and Chennai. They have given a unique blend ...
fusion of the Western and Eastern'', he stated. The Chief Minister, Manohar
Parrikar, who was the chief guest, said that as per the announcement made by
him on December 19, the State cultural award was posthumously awarded to
Alfred Rose. Accepting the prestigious award, Rita Rose thanked the chief
minister for making sure that deserving Konkani artistes are entitled for
the state award irrespective of their residence. She said it would have been
much better had her husband been nominated for the award when he was alive.
The chairman of the reception committee of the Sammelan, Tomazinho Cardozo,
said that efforts would be made to revive the dying forms of Konkani music.
He stated that the government has amended the rules entitling artistes from
outside Goa as well for the cultural awards. (H)

STATE AWARD TO ALFRED ROSE: The 2nd All India Konkani Sangeet Sammelan
started today evening in a glittering ceremony where Goa's Melody King
Alfred Rose was posthumously given a state award and other Goan musicians of
renown, Chris Perry and Jitendra Abhisheki were honoured. The Sammelan was
inaugurated by international musicologist Pandit Bhaskar Chandavarkar in the
presence of the Chairman of the Reception Committee, Mr Tomazinho Cardozo,
Alfred Rose' wife Ms Rita Rose, Mangalore's musician Eric Ozario and others.
Special tributes were paid to Goan musicians and mementos were presented to
Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki's family members. The late tabla maestro Prabhakar
Chari and classical singer Menkabai Shirodkar were also honoured. Earlier,
Goan percussionist Bondo delighted the audience with a special presentation.
Two books were also released; Konkani novelist Bonaventure Pietro's Songit
Dovlot Goenkaranchi and Franklin's Alfred Rose: Konkani Bhaxecho Maha
Kalakar. The second part of the programme, musical tributes to Chris Perry
and Alfred Rose, began with Lorna delivering Chris Perry's Sorga Rajeant
under the glare of kaleidoscopic lights as the grounds exploded with
fire-bombs sending waves of colourful confetti in the air. Rita Rose then
sang her husband's creation Novro Maka Zai. While Anthony San and H
Britton sang the oldies goldies, Alfred Rose' daughter, Alria was the
revelation of the evening, singing with aplomb her father's special
composition for her Aum Dipkoulim. Rose's songs were also sang by Rajesh
(Maria) and Mahesh Sardessai (Dudhsagar). In the musical tribute to

Why There Are Fewer Friends

St. Teresa of Avila was sitting in one place, dead tired after a hectic
day's work. She had severe pain in the leg. She cried and said. Lord
what kind of testing is this. God was prompt in his reply.
This is how I treat my friends.
No wonder, retorted the saint, you have fewer friends.
