[Goanet] Jitendra Deshprabhu (NCP) held in illegal mining case
(Navhind Times) Deshprabhu held in illegal mining case The Nationalist Congress Party general-secretary and former MLA, Mr Jitendra Deshprabhu was arrested by the crime branch in the illegal mining case after the sessions court rejected his anticipatory bail plea on Thursday. The sessions court on rejecting the anticipatory bail plea also refused to grant him time to approach the High Court in appeal. Mr Deshprabhu was then promptly arrested by the crime branch personnel. Mr Deshprabhu, who was indicted by the crime branch for the alleged large-scale illegal mining, had moved the session court on July 16 seeking bail after he had failed to respond to three summons to be present at the crime branch for interrogation.

SHANTARAM NAIK OPPOSES PRIVATIZATION OF MECHANICAL ORE HANDLING PLANT OF MPT. Shri Shantaram Naik MP, has demanded that Shipping Ministry, should direct Mormugao Port Trust, to drop the proposal of privatization of Mechanical Ore Handling Plant in the interest of the Port and also its employees. Making a Special Mention in the Rajya Sabha, Mr. Naik said on 15th July 2011, operations at the Mormugao Port Trust in Goa came to a standstill, due to the call of one day strike called by the six unions operating at the port. He said about 1500 employees of the port protested in front of the Head Office Building of the Port, demanding withdrawal of the proposal of the Mormugao Port Trust of privatising Mechanical Ore Handling Plant on Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. If the MOHP is privatized, about 650 employees will be directly affected besides hundred of other employees who are dependent upon the activities of the MOHP, he said. MOHP has served the port for the last 30 years and funded all the salaries and other financial liabilities under of the Port Trust, Mr. Naik added. Mr. Naik further said that there is no doubt that the MOHP requires repairs which can be done by the MPT by obtaining loan from any of the traditional financial institutions in the country. Further, Major Port Trusts like Mumbai, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Kandla have huge reserves and, MPT can attempt to obtain loan from these port trusts, he said. If the MOHP is privatized, there will be no security of job to the existing workers. Experience has shown that private parties are inhuman and for them nothing matters accept money, Mr. Naik contented. As it is 70% of the Port is privatized and, if the crucial operation of Mechanical Ore Handling Plant is privatized, it will break the backbone of MPT, Mr. Naik added. Abstract Rice grain quality characteristics such as physical (hulling, length and breadth (L/B), grain classification, chalkiness, chalk index), chemical (alkali spreading value (ASV), amylose content (AC), gel consistency (GC), aroma), cooking (volume expansion, elongation ratio (ER), water uptake) and organoleptic-tests based on consumer preferences like appearance, cohesiveness, tenderness on touching, chewing, taste, aroma, elongation and overall acceptability were studied for fourteen aromatic rice varieties. The higher hulling percentage was recorded in ‘Ek-Kadi’ (82.46%) and ‘Ghansal’ (80.96%). The Length/Breadth (L/B) ratio among the varieties ranged from 2.08-4.85. No chalkiness was recorded in ‘Ghansal’, ‘Kotimirsal’ and ‘Pusa sugandh-2’. Among the varieties examined AC was ranged from 17.26-27.69%. The highest GC was recorded in ‘Ghansal’ and lowest in ‘Pusa Basmati-1’. Kernel length after cooking (KLAC) ranged from 2.31-5.88 mm. Water uptake ratio was ranged from 250-350. Organoleptic-test revealed that the varieties ‘Basmati local’, ‘Jiresal’, ‘Kotimirsal’, ‘Pusa Basmati-1’, ‘Pusa Sugandh-2’, ‘Pusa Sugandh-3’, ‘Pusa Sugandh-5', ‘Kasturi’ and ‘Vasumati’ were with excellent grain quality characteristics, preference and overall acceptability... In this paper, we are presenting the finding of grain quality characteristics (physical, chemical, cooking) and organoleptic analysis of traditionally cultivated scented rice varieties of Goa in comparison with basmati rice. Telaulim or Navelim. I really do not know. However, it is interesting to note that Telaulim and Navelim are two separate villages with their own separate panchayats but have always constituted on parish. Telaulim has a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Carmel and even its own cemetery, but the chapel is affiliated to the Church of Our Lady of Rosary, Navelim. Strangely, Navelim Villages does not have its own comunidade as it forms part of Comunidade of Margao. However, Telaulim Village has its own comunidade. It may not be out of place to add that whilst Cardinal Ivan Dias has served the Church with distinction, his brother Lt.Gen.Francisco T.Dias was General Officer Commanding Southern Command in the nineties when Gen.Sunit Rodrigues was the Commander in Chief of the Indian Army. This one was very thought provoking! I have long argued that riches-poverty has little to do with our purse, but with our brain. As a trainee journalist in the early 1980s, earning Rs 300 a month, I felt I could manage on that! This brain-perception-of-happiness thingy is something we need to think about. In the 1990s, when studying briefly in Europe, we were surprised to learn that India was one of the countries in the world where people were claiming to be the happiest among most. Now that we've gained some more affluence, perhaps our unhappiness has only grown. One suspects that Goa has had a lot of Gross Regional Happiness, despite being a very frugal and basic society (and one with a lot of injustices and exploitation too, both external and internal) all these centuries. In fact, we need not accept the GDPism of those who see everything in pure economic terms. We should aim to build a happier, healthier society... not necessarily the richest (even if we could attain that!) [Goanet] Panch election set aside - FOUR YEARS AFTER THE FRAUD
TEAM HERALD PORVORIM: Cancelling the election of Ward 8 Panch of Socorro Panchayat Sandeep Vazarkar as null and void, the Administrative Tribunal has declared the petitioner, Rajesh Kavthankar, as elected from the ward. Incidentally, the order comes four years after Vazarkar was declared elected from Ward 8 in the panchayat elections on May 5, 2007. The ward was reserved for Other Backward Class. Vazarkar had polled 138 votes, while Kauthankar secured 119 votes. Addressing reporters in Porvorim, Kauthankar said on the day of scrutiny of nomination on April 15, 2007, he had raised an objection before Bardez returning officer stating that Vazarker did not belong to OBC. “As proof, I had produced letter dated April 15, 2007, issued by Bardez Taluka Bandari Samaj President, in which it was stated that Vazarkar does not belong to the Bhandari community,” he said. “However, the returning officer rejected my objection. After declaration of the results, I filed the objection before the deputy collector, who in turn referred the matter to the scrutiny committee,” he added. “The scrutiny committed in its order dated January 29, 2008, ordered cancellation of the OBC certificate and the deputy collector in his order dated February 15, 2008, revoked the OBC certificate issued in favour of Vazarkar.” “Vazarkar filed a writ petition in the High Court pleading for stay of the order of the scrutiny committee, but in vain,” added Kauthankar. Kauthankar said under Section 9 of the Panchayat Raj Act, a person who is not an OBC member is not qualified to be elected to a seat reserved for OBC. “Since I secured 119 votes, which is highest after Vazarkar, I was declared as elected as panch by the Administrative Tribunal,” said Kauthankar. Panchas Sarvesh Naik, Yeshpal Raikar and Kishor Asnodkar were present for the press conference. http://www.heraldgoa.in/News/Local%20News/Socorro-pancha-s-election-set-aside-for-misrepresenting-his-caste/51142.html
[Goanet] RAHUL GANDHI v/s NARENDRA MODI - 2014.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections if the Congress projects Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Ministerial Candidate the BJP projects Narendra Modi as the Prime Ministerial Candidate most people in India will have a tough time deciding which political party to vote – Congress or BJP. Both the Congress BJP are two sides of the same coin. Once in power at the center both do the same things i.e. increase gas-petrol-diesel prices, give govt. contracts to their builder – corporate - industrialist friends in return for kickbacks Commissions Election funds, pass on lands belonging to farmers – tribals – fisherfolks for commercial/residential projects, increase direct-indirect taxes to pay the salaries pensions of govt. employees, add more security personnel so that dissent against the govt. can be crushed especially on land acquisition issues, provide land for constructing Hindu temples, turn a blind eye to land encroachment in urban areas and allow slums to grow, turn a blind eye to water shortage problems in urban areas, turn a blind eye to the inflated electricity bills of urban users, turn a blind eye to the inflated prices of milk – vegetables – mutton, etc. The development that you notice in Gujarat is because of the entrepreneurial and aggressive protestant type skills of the Gujaratis and the billions of dollars of investments being pumped into Gujarat by NRI Gujaratis and the hundreds of industrial – pharmaceutical – textile – automobile units that have shifted from bombay region to gujarat because of trade union problems bad policies of Maharashtra govt. So the development that is happening in Gujarat cannot be replicated all across India. The Maharashtra govt. is in the process of destroying the entire konkan region by allowing the construction of 5 Lakh rental homes of 180 sq. ft. for migrants, giving unlimited floor space index (FSI) to builders lobby, allowing open spaces – mangroves – saltpanlands – gardens – playgrounds – forest land to be exploited by builders lobby, allowing more than 60 SEZs in the eco-sensitive konkan region. Hence there is a need for the natives of konkan region (thane, bombay, raigad, ratnagiri, sindhudurg districts) to agitate for a separate statehood for konkan and make bombay capital of konkan. Somebody said all the bad things that are happening in around bombay like ships colliding, ships sinking, cloudburst, bomb blasts, streets flooding, terror attacks, etc will stop if the name of city is changed from Mumbai to the prosperous Bombay. LONG LIVE BOMBAY. The Catholic Portuguese baptized the seven islands with the name Bombahia (which means good bay or good harbour) and the Protestant Britishers anglicized the name Bombahia to Bombay. Neither any city by the name Mumbai existed before the Portuguese arrived and neither the Kolis had agitated to change the name Bombay to Mumbai. Just because the name of the city has been changed to Mumbai by outsiders that does not mean it will remain Mumbai forever. If you have violated some traffic rule and the traffic cop gives you an option of either pay the official fine of say 500 rupees (which goes in the govt. account) and get a official receipt or pay 100 rupees (which goes in the traffic cops pocket) and don’t get any receipt. What will you do pay 500 or pay the bribe of 100 or file complaint against the traffic cop with the anti-corruption bureau OR if you have violated the height restriction in your village and increased the height of your house by two feet and the punishment for violating the height restriction is not fine but outright demolition but the local municipal officer gives you an option either pay him a bribe of 2 rupees and he will turn a blind eye or don’t pay and he will send the demolition squad. What will you do allow the municipal officer to send the demolition squad or bribe the municipal officer or complain against the municipal officer with the anti-corruption bureau. Leaders of Dalit Christians Dalit Muslims went on a Hunger strike between 25-28th July, 2011 at jantar mantar, delhi to demand reservation status. NDTV, CNNIBN, headlines Today, Newsx, TIMESNOW no national English channel in India bothered to give any coverage AND all this talk of the Congress Party appeasing minorities (i.e. muslims christians ) is B**t because after India’s independence the Congress party has been in power for almost 40 years and during the 40 years the congress party did nothing to ensure muslims christians got jobs in govt – public – private sector. Excluding Goa, Kerala, Nagaland Kashmir in all other states of India especially Maharashtra you will find almost all employees in the central – state – public – municipal depts are from the Hindu community so where is the question of congress appeasing muslims christians. The Catholic Church/Clergy in India is supporting the reservation in govt. jobs for Dalit Christians but the Catholic Church/Clergy is not interested in reserving seats in catholic schools

Gerald Fernandes cdoger...@yahoo.co.in wrote: We are all aware that psychiatry is a very demanding and stressful profession, quite akin to the vocation of Catholic Priests administering the Sacrament of Reconciliation to the Catholic Laity. However the murder-suicide rate in Catholic Priests is almost negligible verging towards non-existence. The Harvard Medical College has accepted the role of Spirituality in mental health. Should refresher courses in Spitituality be a prescribed ,mandatory part of Continuing Education Programmes for Psychiatrists? Perhaps, this could save them from themselves and the mounting stress occuring through patient- doctor transference. == Dear Gerald, I believe that there is a major difference between the 'profession' of a priest and that of a psychiatrist. Confession is almost always a one way street. The person confesses and the priest listens and provides absolution. In psychiatry, the two-way discussion (by way of history, repeated office visits and the counselling sessions) often drags a susceptible psychiatrist into an unprofessional relationship with the patient. That is the starting point of trouble - esp IF the psychiatrist is married, is wealthy and the 'new sweetie' starts calling the wife and ) Priests who get involved in counselling (sometimes in private confessions requested by troubled women - who actually need psychiatric help, not confession) also fall into traps like this. The priest is also likely to fall victim to blackmail - because society expects him to be a practising Bramachari. While I am opposed to enforced celibacy, I believe that these 'relationships which follow confessions' are not only unfair to the priests, they also are nearly always likely to take the priest towards disaster. One reasons why (like doctors examining patients) priests should not 'hear' confessions in visual privacy. Audio privacy helps maintain confidentiality, Visual privacy is a set up for problems. So, I doubt it has anything significant to do with courses in spirituality as far as the Psychiatrists are concerned. Often, the not-so-smart (and lazy) physicians go into psychiatry (Less night calls). They provide a fertile ground for trouble, especially when they attract the attention of troubled women (who may have the looks but may never have needed to use their brains to achieve anything). A penny for your thoughts. jc ps: The above comments do not refer to ethical psychiatrists.

In the last few months, India has taken a revolutionary path against corruption which some say is the second struggle for independence for the country of nearly 1.25 billion people. Spearheading the movement is a man of modest means and demeanor but supernatural resolve, Anna Hazare. His uncompromising spirit has motivated the usually slack middle class of the Indian plethora and metamorphosed them into a force that the all powerful UPA government is taking note of. For the first time in the 60+ years of independent history of India, the government is being forced to consider passing a bill in the parliament that has been drafted by the people of the state without any political affiliations. The Janlokpal bill, if it comes into existence would be instrumental in ceasing the biggest problem faced by India - corruption. [Goanet] Pics / Video: Dona Paula, hotspot for Bollywood film shooting
Dona Paula, hotspot for Bollywood film shooting The most recent films Murder2 and Singham were shot here. Singham has many scenes at Dona Paula including main fights – typical of a super cop. In one scene, the hero cop (Ajay Devgn) shown lifting a lamp pole with round lamp (from the fence). There are no such lamps at the jetty. Another peculiarity of Dona Paula is that the whole road leading to the jetty is like a fashion street of Dhobitalau. Readymade Garments exclusively sold by the locals (no outsiders, no migrants). Another, favourite item of mine is 'smoked corn/Maize' Rs. 20 again, sold by the locals, something I only seen and ate at Dona Paula see pic We visted Dona Paula this evening at 6pm (5.8.11) Here is the video clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEi8ko4VbFM or http://youtu.be/eEi8ko4VbFM?hd=1 you may visit the blog for more pics and updates 4 videos also show of 1995, 2008, 2010 2011 http://joegoauk.blogspot.com/2011/08/dona-paula-hotspot-for-bollywood-film.html Pics http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk42/6012696904/sizes/l/in/photostream/ Rop / garments sale (by the locals only) http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk42/6012150761/sizes/l/in/photostream/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/joegoauk42/6012700288/sizes/l/in/photostream/ the jetty did you know? And may we all know if there is going to be an “Inspector” to Police those who will be policing the corrupt under Janlokpal? As is happening right at the moment in Goa; the Police to police the Police? Or will they be DICTATORS under DEMOCRACY? Dr. Ferdinando dos Reis Falcão.
Re: [Goanet] Panch election set aside, FOUR YEARS LATER
The wheels of justice do grind very very slowly if at all in Goa and India as a whole. Such a routine matter should have been disposed of in a matter of months, why4 years ?
