But what action have the authorities taken against Director General of Police Dr Aditya Arya who recently misused his official Innova vehicle to travel 118 km on a picnic to Gokarna in Karnataka. He reportedly also did not seek prior permission to leave the State as was required. We also have the case of that former IGP K.D Singh’s son who crashed his father’s official Innova while driving his friends to a night club at Vasco which caused a loss of over four lakhs to the State exchequer. He also damaged two electricity poles and possibly got away with it because the Power Minister’s son was one of the occupants in that vehicle on their way to the night club. So unless the DGP himself leads by example the entire force will continue to be indisciplined. Merely screening Singham and pretending to be one will not do. You have to truly be one. It originally belonged to Prof Fanchu de Sousa, whose heirs sold it to a Salim Shaikh from Merces? It was then leased out to run an old age home Vijaya run by a Mr. Sardessai. It was then sold by Salim to Tarun who got it totally demolished, just keeping a metre or so of the wall of the house , that probably explains the ruins part! And I think a first floor is being put up. The house was definitely not in ruins as it would not have been used as an old age home. It had beautiful floor tiles and paintings on the wall. I am presently in Mumbai as otherwise I would have sent in pictures of the house. If anybody so desires I will put u in touch with the heirs of Prof. Fanchu. Shame on you Tarun! Also, clearly, he has a febrile imagination -- well he is a theatre veteran -- that leaps swiftly from allusion to innuendo and from that shaky branch to the firm ones of accusation and conspiracy. And on that high perch he sits back satisfied that Goa has been saved from rapacious mining and worse capitalists. Alas, when I call him, having read his bizarre, baseless piece (You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours, October 28), he is full of rage at the world, but no facts. When I tell him how we have not violated or bent a single rule in acquiring or renovating our old house, he rages about how the rest of India is destroying Goa. When I tell him my heart bleeds for the same jackfruit tree that his bleeds for, and that it is across the road and not on our property, and that we too complained when someone cut it down, he rages about how rich Goans are destroying Goa. When I tell him we are impassioned tree lovers and that we have gone to exemplary lengths to save every single firm and infirm tree while renovating, he rages about how consumerism is destroying the world. When I tell him the house we bought was an old ruin in an inner village, half hour from the closest beach, and not some fancy villa by the sea, he rages about how he is sick of other Indians descending on and destroying Goa. When I tell him the house cost us less than a one-bedroom apartment would in Delhi, he rages that he can't himself afford to buy a house in Goa. (I tell him nor can I in Delhi.) When I tell him the reporter he has cited was asked to leave the magazine on account of poor performance, he rages that the world will soon run out of water and power and food (and love). When I tell him we don't do mining, our investors don't do mining, I have no friends who are mining barons, and that we actively refused sponsorship from all the Goan mining companies for our Think conclave, he rages that all mining is bad, everywhere. When I tell him he would do better to look for the genuine bigdogs and their landed excesses, he rages that he is sick of the state of the world and will hunt them all down. He tells me he's very pissed off my book launch took place in a cultural place owned by the Salgaoncars. I ask him whether he dismisses Arundhati Roy's wonderful critiques because they are published by Rupert Murdoch's HarperCollins. He tells me that's semantics. I tell him that's complexity, in an intricately intertwined world. He tells me he hates the

A closer examination of some aspects of the masquerade - who started it, how Hazare was inducted into it as the central figure, who financed it, how people were mobilised in different parts of India, why and how some TV channels hyped the movement, how much they earned, which were the real forces behind it, how Hazare' fast was manipulated, who were the real decision-makers - will reveal the truth about it. The 'Team of Four' who demanded transparency in governance and public life could not practice transparency in their own conduct. As it subsequently became clear, such honesty would have brought out skeletons in their own cupboard. Their defensive explanations were ridiculous. Their angry retort - 'Do not look at our conduct. We will correct it, but look only at our movement' - shows their arrogant self-righteousness. What a mockery they have made of what they called was a movement for purity in public life! The democratic pretension of the so-called ‘Second Freedom Movement’ has been thoroughly exposed. The people who gathered or were mobilised have gone back to their barracks. The 'Team of Four' with Hazare as their mask is now left in the field acting as if they were like the National Supreme Council after the recent revolutions in Egypt and Libya. Oblivious to the suspicion and contempt they evoke, they have been taking all kinds of unilateral decisions, giving calls to the people and firing threats at the UPA government. When they were called upon to make the team broad-based, their reply was first like that of the Supreme Council: “We will frame the constitution. Till then, we will rule and lead the movement.” Their political character and vaunted commitment to honest candidates was unmasked when they called upon the voters in Hissar by-election not to vote for the Congress candidate. They did not bother to find about the character of the other candidates. Now they want to participate indirectly in the elections in a few states, apparently because they are unable to gather the courage to fight the polls openly. Anna Hazare and Kejriwal's mild condemnation of the physical assault on Prashant Bhushan for his stand on Kashmir even as they disapproved of his democratic stand on the issue, leaves no one in doubt where their hearts lie. Their lip-service to democracy and freedom and their devotion to ultra-nationalistic ideology are finally out in the open. These tin soldiers of the 'Second Freedom Movement' did not have even two sympathetic words for the people of JK who are helpless victims of a proxy war. Their real problem is that once the UPA and parliament accepted their demand for a strong, independent Lokpal and conceded their three points, they find themselves without an agenda. Since then, they have been making frantic efforts to make their presence felt by all sorts of gimmicks. This was bound to happen as their movement is bereft of any social and economic content, or any vision of tomorrow's India. Even the unorganised and spontaneous 'Occupy Wall Street' movement in the US and similar movements in other countries have raised fundamental questions about poverty, inequality and corporate greed, the inevitable consequences of globalised capitalism. Do Anna Hazare and his team have the will, courage or the capacity to bring to the centre stage of Indian politics the real problems of the country? Or, are these problems - poverty, malnutrition, homelessness, inequality and crony capitalism - too lowly for their wise eminences? [Goanet] COLUMN: Digambar Kamat government does not have the moral right to celebrate 50 years of Goa’s Liberation
--- Goanet Classifieds --- Enescil, a Brazilian engineering firm requires Engineers, Architects and Draftsmen, proficient in AutoCAD, for their new office in Goa Those interested can email enescil@gmail.com by 15 November 2011 Selected candidates will be sent to Brazil for 2 months training --- Digambar Kamat government does not have the moral right to celebrate 50 years of Goa’s Liberation By Nisser Dias nisserdias at gmail.com SMS to 9422437029 We are on the threshold of celebrating 50 years of Goa’s liberation from the erstwhile Portuguese rulers in 1961, but the question that comes to my mind is; do Goa and Goans have a reason to celebrate when we are dumped in the abyss of uncertainty, large scale corruption by elected representatives and public servants, when Goa is being allowed to be ravaged – its hills being mowed down, its fields being reclaimed, its lovely coastline already destroyed, its forests sacrificed, its rivers, water bodies and springs being polluted? And over and above does the Digambar Kamat led coalition government which has ruled its entire term, the moral right to celebrate this memorable day? Instead I feel that the day has finally dawned for Goans to take to the streets to liberate ourselves from the death grip of this most corrupt government since Liberation. As of today people of Goa are facing acute shortage of fuel and it is alleged that one of the ministers in the cabinet is demanding Rs. 20 Crores to permit sanctioning of the fuel pipeline which was closed after the naphtha disaster in the port town of Vasco and since the demand is yet to be met, the general public is made to queue up at the gas stations for hours together to fuel the vehicles. At the same time the state is facing acute power shortage because lopsided policies and also because ego problems between the chief minister Digambar Kamat and Power minister Alexio Sequeira. PWD minister Churchill Alemao and his brother Urban Development Joaquim Alemao minister threaten to topple the state government because Congress party disqualifies his daughter as a candidate for the president of youth congress for using chief minister and her father to campaign for her victory. Comptroller and Auditor indicted Joaquim Alemao for wasting precious exchequers money to the tune of crores of rupees but he continues to be a minister. In his latest statement Churchill has said that he would set-up a sewerage plant in Benaulim constituency only if his daughter Valanka is victorious; in other words this man is so sure that he will continue to loot and plunder with PWD portfolio in the next government too. Furthermore is it his personal money that he is going to use to set-up the plant. It is tax payer’s money. Should such people be allowed to be a part of Liberation celebration? Health minister Vishwajit Rane uses exchequers money to either build hospitals in Goa or upgrade them and then transfers it to private parties thereby denying the public good health facilities or makes it difficult for Goans to avail the facilities that have been purchased with the taxes. To make matters worse he sits across and confabulates about the health sector with companies who have not knowledge of health but well-versed in arms and armaments. Of course this same minister is alleged to have a hand in selling huge tracts of land to outsiders and is said to be one of the main benefactors besides Babush Monserrate of regional plan 2011. Coming to Atanasio Monserrate, he along with his goons attacked Panjim police station indicating complete lack of integrity and disregard for law, but chief minister Digambar Kamat inducted him in his cabinet. The former is subsequently detained with loads of foreign currency at the international airport in Mumbai but refuses to step down as minister and the chief minister too does not strip him of his portfolio. How can we forget Home minister Ravi Naik, whose foot is in the mouth more often than on the ground. One fine morning he makes a grand statement that drugs are not available on Goan soil, but not long after drugs dealers start singing like canaries that they have close connection with his son Roy Naik, who they allege is the kingpin of drug trade in Goa. Besides that police officers are suspended for their involvement in drug trade and even the then SP Veenu Bansal is filmed allowing a drug dealer to use his office chamber to consume food and relax. During his reign as Home minister there have been numbers of cases of policemen involved in rapes and that too at the police stations itself. Should such a man be allowed to be a part of 50 years of Goa’s Liberation? Then we

[Goanet] Is this government of the people?
--- Goanet Classifieds --- Enescil, a Brazilian engineering firm requires Engineers, Architects and Draftsmen, proficient in AutoCAD, for their new office in Goa Those interested can email enescil@gmail.com by 15 November 2011 Selected candidates will be sent to Brazil for 2 months training --- Is this government of the people? It may be recalled that the same Congress government in Goa had plans to finish Goa for all in the name of Regional Plan 2011 but the formation of GBA with Dr. Oscar Rebello in the lead together with the support of the Catholic Church and like minded people saved Goa from that particular disaster. But fortunately or unfortunately we voted the same government into power who ruined and looted Goa. Now Regional plan 2021 is in the news,it is another master plan by the people in power to sell Goa to the rich and the powerful. Some of the villages of Goa has shown concern against the regional plan 2021 but unfortunately that doesn't includes the historic village of Cuncolim,Velim and Assolna from where the first revolution against the Portuguese Rule started. It is also very sad to say that the GBA who fought against the then Regional Plan 2011 died long ago and I have nothing to say about the present GBA. Goa was a place which was once known for paddy fields.Throughout Goa,almost on either side of all the roads one could witness these paddy fields which our ancestors cultivated to run their houses but we could not save much of them.If we have problems to identify the difference between settlement and non-settlement zones then we are inviting serious problems for us.If we cannot identify from our naked eye, our own fields and hills then there is something wrong with us.We don't need any plans to identify our own natural creations. These so called plans are master plans to ruin and loot Goa.This present government will do nothing to save us,we have to make this government to do things the way we want but will we do it?It's a million dollar question. Last but not the least, the present Congress government in Goa is not the government of goenkars but the same is representing the illegal mining lobby, the real estate developers and all sort of ugly people. [Goanet] Spot fixing shadow on Goa’s ex Ranji captain -- From the Herald
--- Goanet Classifieds --- Enescil, a Brazilian engineering firm requires Engineers, Architects and Draftsmen, proficient in AutoCAD, for their new office in Goa Those interested can email enescil@gmail.com by 15 November 2011 Selected candidates will be sent to Brazil for 2 months training --- It is amusing to read that the very people that sold duplicate tickets during the India vs Australia 1-Day match in Margao, are now investigating spot-fixing in Goan Cricket!! PANJIM: In what could turn out to be a major national sporting scandal, the GCA is closely investigating whether the ex-captain of Goa’s Ranji Trophy team and former IPL star Swapnil Asnodkar, was involved in ‘spot fixing’, during its Plate Group match versus Maharashtra. When Goa needed 112 runs for victory and were 18 for 1 in six overs Swapnil offered a draw with 13 mandatory overs still remaining. Goa had changed the batting order as it thought the overall 130 target in 19 overs was imminently gettable. The decision led to Swapnil being stripped off captainship besides being summarily dropped from the Goa team for the next two Ranji matches.“His decision to offer a draw took everyone by total surprise. We were left dumb-founded,” remarked Dayanand Narvekar, president of the Goa Cricket Association.Swapnil looks to be in greater trouble as one of the Goa players said that Swapnil had hinted about calling off the match during the fourth over. Narvekar told Herald that in his deposition, Abhishekh Raut had given in writing that, “Swapnil asked me not to lose my wicket although the coaches had asked the team members to go for a kill.”“You can see in the recording Asnodkar played out a maiden and then shook hands to call off the match,” stated Narvekar, who pointed out that the action from the captain was being proved from all angles.“The matter is big news, much more so when players are being allowed to carry their mobiles in the dressing room.”When asked whether GCA would crosscheck mobile records of Swapnil, Narvekar said, “Everything would be part of the enquiry.” “It will be difficult for Asnodkar to get back in the team,” Narvekar summed up”Asked if there are suspicions that Asnodkar could have indulged in spot fixing, Narvekar said “Investigations are on. At this moment, I can’t use the term spot-fixing. I can’t make even an allegation since it has very serious connotations and there will be major repercussions. Asnodkar has submitted a written apology on Wednesday and an explanation, the contents of which are not being disclosed. “It is a secret document. I can’t disclose its contents at this juncture. The matter will be taken up at the managing committee meeting shortly,” GCA secretary Prasad Fatarpekar told Herald on Wednesday.Asnodkar’s fate will be decided after investigations which are in progress. “In the past we have received several reports and complaints against him but we had no proof so as to enable us to take disciplinary action. This time we have the proof” explained Narvekar. He warned “More is still to come. Nobody is above the game.”Swapnil has conceded that it was his mistake to call off the game. He had said that he had taken the decision considering the state of the pitch. --- Protect Goa's natural beauty Support Goa's first Tiger Reserve Sign the petition at: http://www.goanet.org/petition/petition.php ---
