[Goanet] Goa Sudharop Covid 19 project
PRESS RELEASE - Goa Sudharop launches new project with fashion designer Verma D'Mello Goa Sudharop Covid 19 project Goa Sudharop's Thread-Up team based in Goa is a partnership between Goa Sudharop and Goan fashion designer Verma D'Mello which trains village women in the clothing industry. They are going to make and donate various types of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) designed for different categories of frontline workers in Goa to help them stay safe and protect their health during this Covid-19 pandemic. We also appreciate all the risk being taken by garbage collectors and so safe PPE wear is being designed specially for them too. The protective masks and gowns will be made from unspunbonded polypropylene fabrics as it restricts transmission. These items will be made by the village women trained by Ms. Verma D'Mello on sewing machines donated by Goa Sudharop. Goa Sudharop had previously provided food to Goan villagers impacted by the pandemic https://www.goasudharop.net/single-post/2020/04/12/Goa-Sudharop-Provides-Food-to-Goan-Villagers Goa Sudharop
[Goanet] Bible verse for the Day
B.I.B.L.E. - Behold I Bring Life Eternal Galatians 5:16-18 = 16 I say, then: live by the Spirit and you will certainly not gratify the desire of the flesh. 17 For the flesh has desires against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you may not do what you want. 18 But if you are guided by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

Incase of Goa I had to apply 4 times to get it right and clear it. It was difficult to navigate through the website. The entire process took about 30hrs. 3. While on the journey itself at the Goa border. I got down and had to show I'd proof of all family members which was written down in the register and then cleared to go. 4. At the Karnataka end all of us had to get down thermal screening had to be done. Names entered in a register and then cleared to move. 5. As we traveled within Karnataka we were stopped at two toll booths to enter our details. 6. Now comes the real one. As we entered Kerala at the first point. I had to get down show my pass and was given a token. 7. I had to get in and travel for 500m aprox. At this point we were told to get down of the vehicle. Close our eats bag. [Goanet] GOD SAVE OUR STUDENTS WITH KONKAN RAILWAY HAVING NOW EMERGED AS CORONA RAILWAY
With the COVID-19 cases in Goa escalating by the day, the government is displaying its sheer and reckless arrogance by having decided to go ahead with the SSC exams while putting the lives of our young children at risk. The authorities should have carefully thought of a way to deal with this issue. Even if a scholastic year was lost it would be better instead of putting in peril the well- being of our young beacons of hope. These are turbulent times demanding high levels of caution and watchfulness. Having failed on so many occasions in handling various issues during this lock-down, the authorities would be solely responsible for the consequences of their short-sightedness in holding these exams during this raging pandemic. The government needs to chart its way forward guardedly in battling this deadly virus as on account of any skewed approach we may end up setting more COVID-19 hospitals in the State. Don’t our young students deserve Justice, protection and compassion in a civilized society? This will weigh on our consciences forever. Protecting and safeguarding its people is the fundamental and main duty of any Government. This pandemic has wreaked havoc throughout the world. For five months it has humbled the best and the worst, the powerful the arrogant and the lowly. The worst medical scientific and economic crisis in a hundred years. We must treat COVID 19 with the seriousness that it demands. We may not see the virus due to its invisible minute size but that does not mean we should turn a blind eye to its destruction by succumbing our children and people to reckless knee jerk decisions. Exams can wait. Life and death cannot! [Goanet] Indian Writers In Goa
While Goa is being robbed of its culture, peace and environment by the extreme poverty entering from the rest of India and by greedy individuals both from within and outside, it is also enriched by the skills and talents coming there from other parts of the country and the world. Many years ago when I met Valmiki Faleiro of Margão, he told me that what is happening is nothing but a reprise of what used to happen before the Portuguese consolidated their power and rule in the territory. Which proves the two old adages of history repeating itself and how the only guarantee in life is change. How the butter churns and finally takes shape, is anybody’s guess. Roland. Toronto. Re: [Goanet] {Goanet} Finding Mogacho Aunddo-Cortubancho Sounsar
Linken, Probably you were right, your grand-uncle Manuel Alphonso did provide music for 2 films but not Mogacho Aunddo or Bhuierantlo Munis it was Sukhachem Sopon and Cortubancho Sounsar. https://konkanicinema.com/movie/kortubancho-sonvsar/ The details of Mogacho Aunddo was fresh in my mind as I recently (Konkani Cinema Day celebrated on 24th April) posted on FB details about this film. Also I pvtly asked Idsidore Dantas, who has done research on Konkani cinema more details about this film as I was aware he was working on this film. He did provide me some details, but the completion details is with family of Al Jerry Braganza. On Manuel Alphonso Those days a lot of info was posted on Goanet on Konkani Music. I cam across this post on Manuel Alphonso https://www.mail-archive.com/goanet@lists.goanet.org/msg79850.html Since I am into collection of Konkani songs, I came to know that Manuel produced 4 audio albums, of which I have only 2, that is 1. Goa and 2. Saudades de Goa. I also came to know that Alfred Rose was a close friend of Manuel and and on his 50th Wedding Anniversary Alfred Rose Composed a song 'Ponos Voros Sarlim'. I am not sure if Alfred Rose sang it but its in Album 'Saudades de Goa'. Both these CD's have the best of Traditional Goan Mandos. I understand Manuel Alphonso had also published a book with lyrics of all the songs, not sure anyone has the copy. Now more so in this COVID -19 pandemic, it is all the more important that we ensure that nothing we eat is adulterated, unhygienic or substandard. Over the last few weeks we are seeing anything and everything being unauthorisedly sold by all and sundry anywhere and everywhere while the authorities are conveniently turning a nelson’s eye to all this illegal trade which should be a health concern to all. Even substandard and possibly formalin laced fish is being sold all over in private vehicles and along the roads. It is incumbent on the authorities to ensure that all food items are sold only at the markets and in the authorized shops. The Food & Drug Administration must wake up from its slumber and get its act together by cracking on this sale of adulterated food items to prevent a further rise in cancer and other ailments. It is imperative that the public in the interest of their own health should not patronize such road-side sales. It is futile to have a meaningful Lockdown to control the virus, without a stringent clampdown on consumer products that can cause more harm in more ways than the pandemic. This must be a time more than any other for the authorities to act firmly against unscrupulous traders that want to cash in on peoples’ vulnerability, frailty and fears and causing more harm than good even fatal in some instances. Deterrent action must also be taken against those misusing their office in the building society complexes for unduly advertising and promoting such unlawful and illegal sales for apparent selfish pecuniary benefits while prejudicing the health and well being of the residents. The famous proverb ‘Prevention is better than cure’ is important and applicable in our daily sphere of life. It teaches us to take preventive measures always in our life to get away from all sorts of dangers. Preventive measures help us to save our health, effort, time and money. Time the authorities exercised and strengthened without fear or favour the measures in place to safeguard all the people and the state. "500 Hundred miles" a modern popular English song was composed by Justin Timberlake, Carey Mulligan, and Stark Sands. The tune of this song has been adopted by Nilanjan Mistry for his lyrics and it is sung by Maitreyee Moon. When we are safe in our homes, millions are on roads on their way to go home. How many of them will safely reach home, is anybody's guess. May God protect them. Pratap Naik, sj
[Goanet] Mamãe Eu Quero (I Want My Mama
It is today one of the most famous Brazilian songs of all time, synonymous with its singer Carmen Miranda. Written by Vicente Paiva and Jararaca in 1937, it gained international visibility in 1940 when performed as a marching song by Carmen Miranda on Broadway in the play ‘Down Argentine Way’. It was taken into every American home when connected to the Tom and Jerry and I Love Lucy cartoon television shows. The song was performed in the 2016 Olympics Closing Ceremony at the Macaraña Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. The song struck a chord in most Goan homes from Portuguese times because of the language connection and it continues to be included in every singalong medley with En Costa Tua Cabeciña, ABC de Coração and the Konkani Mando evergreens. Here is a modern dance video interpretation by T-Rio, a Brazilian musical group of triplet sisters Thaina, Thayana and Thaisa of the song in 2004 from their album Choopeta. https://youtu.be/7xUZSEuMV_I Roland.
