[Goanet] Confront the miners in Goa

2009-07-15 Thread Leo Conrad D'Souza

Hi Carmen,

Your post makes interesting reading so far to me.

May I know what you have in mind and how precisely you want to go about this
issue, the help and support you need from fellow Goans. Mind you, only the
Goans living in Goa, in my humble opinion be able to do something to help you.

I am sure you have a plan in mind, perhaps you could spell it out in this forum.

Appreciate your initiative, as Goa needs people who have the best interest of
Goa in their hearts.

With every good wish,

Leo Conrad D'Souza.

Hi Freddy

I am affraid I have been living in London for over 40 years and I am
neither personally or directly or indirectly affected by the mining in Goa
and I do not have property in Goa. I am however deeply concerned about the
welbeing of my fellow goans and the land itself which I love and wish to
preserve for future generations.

I care deeply about any brutality against planet Earth I don't care where it
happens. We only have one small planet which we are destroying because of
the greed and supidity of a few people.

I want to have a go and confront the miners in Goa and try to change the
situation, even If I have to do it alone. I don't give up easily!

I was hoping for some help and support from fellow goans around the world, I
will continue to ask for support. Hope one day you will agree that all of us
together perhaps can do something positive for Goa!

Best wishes

Carmen Miranda

[Goanet] Samir has never been communal

Santosh,
'Someone else's opinion need not be yours or mine'.
An opinion is a mere opinion which could be also far from Facts and Truth,
depending what factors are take into consideration, however I understand being
on the Goanet since its inception, every member is entitled to his/her opinion,
how others are influenced by the opinion depends on their attitudes and
perceptions.

[Goanet] Advice on immigrating back to goa

2008-09-04 Thread Leo Conrad D'Souza

Remy,
'Home is where the Heart is'
We always feel and visualise that the Grass is always greener on the other
side. We try the same, if it works out fine if not ...?
I too have been in a similar situation as yours. However I have searched my
Heart (emotion) and reasoned wth my mind. I am still continuing to work in
Dubai (last 28 years) although my heart yearns for Goa. One day I know I will,
and I also know that the God Almighty is preparing for me for it. However I am
not ready it. Search your Heart, soul, body and mind. Have 2 columns made up
with the pros and cons of the UK and Goan life, weigh it and see where you
stand. Tough decision. I have been to UK, several times I know life can be
lonely at times, but any life away from Goa is, although we complain and brood
of many things, yet we know we have a sense of belonging while in Goa. (Goans
only)
'United we stand, Divided we Fall'
All of your four points can be taken care of, if we step up and address it, not
easy though
1. Traffic. Its all over the world in major cities (try Dubai, its chaotic)2.
Cleaniness. This is a challenge, with proper planning is possible.3. Crab
mentality. My take: Let other people's opinion, need not be yours.4.
Bureaucracy and corruption. Very difficult in a Democratic society to eradicate
it, only switching over to Dictatorship will help. (UAE, for example, where
progress is made in leaps and bounds)
Wish you well,
Leo from Dubai, now on a short visit in Mumbai.

'Now' i.e In today's world Faith, Hope and Love is very important to lead a
good Christian life and be a example to others.
What does Faith mean to me, 'Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the
conviction of things not seen' Hebrews 11:1.
Faith, here is expressed in Two ways
1. Faith towards future things (what we hope for)
2. Faith towards invisible things (what we do not see)
Hope is 'the present assurance of some future good'.
The Two sides of Faith 'Assurance and expectation' can be seen in the lives of
those in the Bible.
Faith means abandoning all trust in our resources, abilities and reasoning and
relying on God's promises. Action is required for 'Faith' to be present.
Proverbs 3: 5 'Trust in the Lord with all your Heart, and Lean not on your own
understanding; in all your ways acknowlegde him and he will direct your paths'
It is written that 'Man does not live on Bread Alone but every word that comes
from the mouth of God' Mathew 4:4.
On 'Love' the next time around.
With every good wish,

My HO : Yes, the catholic Community is going in that direction, except for a

2. IMHO , the meaning of the words and action of Jesus 'DO THIS IN MEMORYOF ME'

3. I believe Christianity to be a way of life and cannot be pinned down tothe

My Opinion: I would agree with you, True Christianity would be to imitate and
follow Christ and his two outstanding qualities were
a) servant leadership and b)humility. To me he was the greatest leader that
ever walked the world with the largest number of followers.
If only our leaders had these two qualities.

[Goanet] Is Christianity a Religion

2008-03-13 Thread Leo Conrad D'Souza

Dear Ana Maria and Mario,
Is Christianity, a religion? To us it is not, its only a relationship with
Christ.
The Ten Commandments in the Old Testament was summed up by only Two
Commandments in the New Testament by Christ. These Two commandements covers up
all the Ten Commandments and much more.
Your comment, Mario 'it is an undisputed fact that the Catholic Church is the
original Christian religion instituted by Christ,
Answer: It is one of the many denominations, which started in the First
century. In the New Testament 'Acts of the Apostles' it is mentioned clearly
the First Century Christians met in Houses, worshipping God and proclaiming the
Good news, later on the Roman Emperor accepted the Good News, that God sent his
one and only Son into this World to save mankind by dying and paying the price
for our sins on the Cross'.
In the Old Testament it is clearly mentioned do not worship idols, catholic
Faith encourages worshipping idol, thus even the Hindus have reduced the
Catholics on par with them as worshipping idols. Christ has clearly stated that
God should be worshipped in Spirit and in Truth.
John 4, Ver 23 and 24. 'Yet the time is coming and has now come when the true
worshippers will worship the Father in 'Spirit and Truth' for they are the kind
of worshippers the Father seeks'.
God is Spirit and his worshippers must worship in Spirit and in Truth. From
this it is very clear and evident that idol worship is not what Christ preached
and sad to say that Catholism practices idol worship, contrary to Christ
teachings. Catholism is a religion which has a lot of legalism and moved their
focus from God's word which is the Bible. Christianity is relationship with
Christ, as he mentioned 'I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one can comes
to the Father except through me'. John 14, Ver 6.
Ana Maria's comments 'There is an occean between christ and catholics, Yes
there is a big ocean.

Hi Cornel,

I perfectly echo your sentiments, as I experienced the same early this month
in Goa.
I visited the 'The Corporation of the City of Panaji. and personally
delivered a letter to consider the charges levied on the Apartment we bought
in Caranzalem, being a Non Resident.

Everytime I telephoned the Officer in charge, he happily requested me to
come (I was residing in Margao) and meet him in his Office in the Evening.
This went on till the day of my departure (3 May) from Goa. I had to make
around three futile trips to Panjim from Margao. This went on till the day
of my departure, which was then brought to my attention that I had to grease
his palms to get it done. Every subsequent visit I make to Goa, I have
observed that the Corruption level is on the rise. Its one of the deadly
social diseases which prevents growth of a Society. (local inhabitants).
Progressive leaders bring progress. Its testing time now, as whom we should
vote for? However if the voters can be bought for a few rupees, then
corruption starts from there and what goes around comes around. Food for
thought!

[Goanet] Current situation in Dubai.

2007-03-13 Thread Leo Conrad D'Souza

Current Situation in Dubai.

Ahlan Dubai!!!

With so many Indians hopping on the next flight to Dubai, or UAE in general
to realize their dreams, life would turn around to be a shocker, once you
land here.
The common problem with the youth is that they get carried away and want to
make too much money in too short a time.

Please read on…..
Guys, please consider the pros and cons and make a self assessment based on
the following facts…

The first of the many mistakes you are likely to make is too convert the AED
salary by 13, the conversion rate should be done on savings and not on gross
earnings.

If you are a married person, the minimum of a one bedroom (bedroom, hall,
kitchen) would cost you around AED 4000/- per month (not per annum) in
downtown Dubai. Add a minimum of 15% annual increments Wow! And do not
expect for salaries to rise even a quarter of the %.
If you want to save some money in rent, you can look for apartments in
Sharjah, Ajman or even Ras Al Khamiah, however allow around 2 to 4 hours for
commutation every day, given the present traffic chaos with the influx of
thousands of expatriates flocking here every day. If you add another 10
hours of a day in the job, you end up spending around 14 hours a day on the
job, and you thought Family life would be so much fun here, think twice……
And you thought petrol is cheaper here, and so the taxies, think again,
taking a cab from the Airport to the Hotel, the meter can touch anywhere
from AED 50…100 depending on the distance, before you make yourself
comfortable in a Toyota Camry.

You might regret buying a car here, although the fanciest of Cars are
available for it can be a nightmare finding a parking in Dubai for just One
hour and that’s not free and do not forget to display your parking ticket or
else a fine awaits you.

To add to your woes, it costs around INR 30 per minute from UAE to India,
whereas INR 8/- from India to UAE, and do not think for a moment you can use
Skype, its banned and illegal here……so much so for communication.

God forbid if you do fall sick, be prepared to shell out a minimum of AED
150 for a Doctor’s visit (if you do not have company insurance) this will
create a big hole in your pocket.

You are in for treat of a lifetime if you come from a cold country. Summer
temperatures can run upto 50 degrees on a normal sunny afternoon and such
days are pretty regular (although not mentioned) and did I mention the
humidity levels of 85 to 95%.

If you don’t have children, you are lucky, (not to discourage you having
children) for if you have 2-3 children add a minimum of AED 12,000/- per
annum for each child to the cost of living in UAE.

Last but not the least, if you are fascinated by the number of malls in
dubai…the constant changing skyline…..the hype the surrounds this place, the
bollywood stars that flock this place every weekend (Thurday night) the chic
Caf酅Dubai marina……Burj Dubai (going to be the tallest building in the
world)…..Burj Al Arab…..the fancy cars……think twice
!!
Remember what you take home after spending a lifetime here are the clothes
in your back and the Fils jingling in your pocket and your bank balance.

A word of caution…..no matter how long you stay here, you will always be an
expatriate..no UAE passport…..no home. This place can be used as a
platform to migrate elsewhere.

Trust me there’s nothing like home……you are a first class citizen in your
own country, maybe in a Second class country (not anymore now).

My husband does not like me to write to the goanet because he says people
who write on this goanet are mostly falto writers.
answer:Falto means 'ordinary' (Correct me if I am wrong)
They do not seem to
understand anything but just because of virtue that they are abroad they
keep themselves high and above every one.
They think they are high and above everyone' Are all of them?
Answer:I for one, am away from Goa and India for almost 26 years, yet
whenever I visit Goa, (almost twice every year) I admire the way Goans in
Goa live and cope with what's happening around them.
'Those who support the primary education are falto people for I living in
Goa know very well what education in Goa is and what standard the primary
education has,
Answer:'Persons like me abroad, only get ground information what's going on
from the likes of you'
I do agree with the Goans in Goa, that being away from Goa, one cannot
visualize and imagine the ground realities as those who encounter them on a
regular basis. Regarding the Education system, Do you have a road map in
your opinion, how this education be devised? For I alway believe that
without Basic education a person is nothing. However in my opinion,
education should not be confined only in the four walls of the classroom.
Your comments: and if falto people cannot understand what falto is then
people like us should quit the goanet for it is not worth reading falto
philosophy.
Answer:As far as falto philosophy is concerned usually I hit the delete
button, (it still works on my computer)
However if you observe in life, Extraordinary (Great) people usually do
ordinary things in an extraordinary manner.
Do keep writing, as information is carried not only in the lines you write
but also in between them.

[Goanet] A MERRY MAKING CONVENTION

2007-01-06 Thread Leo Conrad D'Souza

Aires Rod's post
'Quote Freedom of speech was not the order of the day at the
Convention. Anticipating that I would raise the issue
of the Goa regional Plan 2011, Commissioner of NRI
affairs Mr. Eduardo Faleiro directed the Director of
NRI affairs Mr.Ulhas Kamat to summon the police and
arrest me.' UnQuote.
Just curious to know if the discussion/debate on the Regional Plan 2011, did
extend the Agenda's time limit.
