Speaking of buttons; I'm on the lookout for some specific ones and though everyone on here might be able to help. They look sort of like a 4 sided shield button with a tall point in the middle. Re: [h-cost] English Gable Hood, Holbein image
Looking at my copy of Holbein in England from the Tate, which has a decent but still too small image of this one, it looks like there's just not enough detail in the sketch itself to say for sure. There's definitely something there, but it's just a sort of a v-shape where the lines meet, with shadow around it suggesting something that sticks out a bit. It could be a lump where they meet, though that's not the shape that 4-finished-seams-meeting makes when I do it; it could be a button, though the sketch suggests a diamond-shaped ...whatever... and a self-fabric diamond-shaped button seems a bit odd. It could be a covering patch, but in the sketch the ...thingy... is pretty 3D, and seems to stick out further than a patch would. Sicne the British Museum (the sketch's home) makes it really difficult to link to database records: http://www.britishmuseum.org/research/search_the_collection_database/advanced_search.aspx then search for Holbein two views and it'll be your only result. Click on the small then the medium image, and it'll take you to a pretty decent enlargement. -E House ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume

Yeah, I thought it might be just a huge book with many links and sources... well, what I'm looking for, is anything about drafting and patterns. Historical methods and professional modern methods, on a rather higher level. Something like these Rundschau magazines I recently talked about... Do you think it might be helpful for me?
