Hey,

It seems like I am always having to hook up someone's HD to my system to
image it or pull data off of it. I am tired of opening my case up,
disconnecting one of my drives, and hooking theirs up.

What I am looking for is some type of PATA/SATA to USB converter that does
not have a case or anything like that. I just want to hook up the drive
temporarily. Can any one recommend a good connector?

Thanks,
Bobby

Yup, I have one just like that, but different brand name on it. Works
well and I use it for laptop drives almost every week. :)

I even used it to burn to a DVD drive once using a WinPE CD to Ghost my
newly built PC. Worked like a charm connected to a Lite-On DVD/CD/RW
drive.

Should be able to use native drivers, have you tried plugging the mouse
in while system was on and booted and/or allowing the system to boot
with mouse in? Usually the standard mouse drivers work just fine.
Unless there is a mainboard or mouse issue.

Re: [H] PATA (and maybe SATA) to USB and/or Firewire connector...

2007-01-03 Thread Anthony Q. Martin
I've been thinking of getting one of these too, as I have zillions of
old HDs lying around or I'm trying to wipe one and reload, etc. These
would be a lot easier than openning up an external case to remove one HD
to put in another. I think Cyberguys sells one similar to this one,
though I have not used it (I don't have one yet).

OKay. But, I'm still using AMD TBirds and do not know much about all the new
classes of cpu. And, I thought most of the power for the cpu is derived from
the
regulator circuitry on the mainboard(?) not as direct feed from the psu. All my
current boards have very heavy duty power type circuitry mounted around the
cpu sockets. Hmm. Many need more investigation.
Clearly, we may be in a turn where vid cards are forcing higher wattage psus. I
run 550W psus now; up from 300W psus back in 1996. I'd hate to think that the
new 2007&beyond minimum is going to be 1KW. Might as well just build radio

Certainly they are essential!

Second battery? If used in tandem prolongs run-time or
at least protects
your battery investment since neither batt has to be
deep cycled thus
causing less wear. 3rd or 4th make no sense as they
have no shelf life.

Case? Of course you need a case unless your not moving
the laptop.

Spare PS? If it's a Dell, you can be damn sure you'll
need one since the
strain reliefs tend to go killing the PS not to
mention the convenience
of being able to unplug & go with a spare in the above
mentioned case!

Mouse is debatable depending on taste & need, but my
touchpad & pointer
mice drive me nuts.

The $$$ amounts on these as quoted is dubious, but
likely MSRP (Manf.
suggested ridiculous price)! ;-)
