Re: [hlcoders] liblist.gam problem
Teh steam updater stopped working here altogether. Both the client and the server just hang, doing nothing. Jeroen "ShadowLord" Bogers - Original Message - From: "Brian A. I'm waiting for the hurting to stop. All this would not be so bad when the soft wouldn't insist on hanging time and time again. I can understand that the servers are just hopelessly overloaded. Bad planning, happens, not a problem. But I like software that is smart enough to handle these situations without loosing it's mind over choking network. Especially if it a network download system. Just leave it running and go watch a movie. Which won't work if you have to babysit the client because it repeatedly passes out. If you can avoid using it on Win98 at the moment, do so at all cost. Re: [hlcoders] liblist.gam problem
The client content servers are very badly overloaded, I've been trying all morning to get past the updating steam point. It downloads at about 1 or 2K, when it downloads at all. It spends most of it's time just sitting there and is for all pratical purposes dead in the water, unusable. I think by the end of the day there is going to be a lot of outrage at this - unless Valve can find a way to provide more bandwidth. > I'm still working on my LIVE servers now. It is sensitive to map problems that hlds ignores, but once I fixed those it worked great. I'm not sure how much they changed from 4111 to 1120 - probably not much, but knowing Valve you never know. Problem is there aren't many people that have been able to get the steam version of Half-Life to complete the update, so there aren't many steam players out there. I've been trying to get my client updated all day, and it's s slwww. Steam content servers are badly overloaded, Steam website has been offline all day. It's going to be an ugly weekend.. ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlcoders

Once I fixed a few bad maps, I've had no more stability problelms with it, and am quite pleased with how well it's running. My Steam hlds server has only been up for 35 hours, but ususally if it lasts that long, then it's not likely to have many problems. It's really a bit too early to be sure, as there have been very few players. Once the server fills up with real players I'll have a better idea as to how well it will work, but so far it looks good. ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlcoders

botman, I'm running your hpb_bot right now with the steam hlds, and it's running fine. So farat least it's still up, players are in the server and there are no problems that I'm yet aware of. Re: [hlcoders] liblist.gam problem
The whole steam thing is a bit broken. Right now I got a shell script running the steam update in a loop, since it tends to reset connection after a few files. /me is glad he's using one server as test machine and that server was scheduled for a major reinstall anyways :) Jeroen "ShadowLord" Bogers - Original Message - From: "botman" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Friday, September 12, 2003 18:46 Subject: Re: [hlcoders] liblist.gam problem > I've seen lots of e-mail on the linux and win32 dedicated server list about > problems using Steam dedicated server with non-Valve MODs and plugins (like > AMX, metamod, AdminMOD, bots, etc.). Re: [hlcoders] liblist.gam problem
I've seen lots of e-mail on the linux and win32 dedicated server list about problems using Steam dedicated server with non-Valve MODs and plugins (like AMX, metamod, AdminMOD, bots, etc.). Valve hasn't really responded and none of the suggestions that I've seen so far handle problems with the latest Steam client (released yesterday). When I know anything more about how to get the latest Steam server and client working properly with bots and other plugins, I'll post some news on the main page of my website to let everyone know. For now, just assume that you have to run straight vanilla Half-Life and/or Valve supported MODs. botman ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlcoders
[hlcoders] liblist.gam problem
I'm trying to bring my linux test server up to date from 3.1.1.0 to 3.1.1.1d so I can install Steam. I installed the patch and fired up the server as usual, but for some reason, HL isn't paying full attention to the liblist.gam file anymore. I have specified that it use "HPB_wf_i486.so" (a modified version of the HPB bot for use with my mod), but for some reason HL insists on using "HPB_i386.so" instead which doesn't exist (missing DLL error). Is this a side effect of the VAC? Are there now restrictions on what we can name our dlls? The mod will run if I remove the bot dll and use the game dll alone without the bot. Also, just for fun I tried to install server Steam anyway, ignoring the dll error. The install crashes immediately after entering "yes" to the license agreement. The script is looking for 'uncompress' which doesn't exist on RH8.0. Any suggestions to work around this? ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlcoders
