Re: [hlds] Associate Names with a Steam ID?

2009-05-08 Thread krid
Afaik, L4D's vote kick places a 5min ban on the kicked player so rejoining
is not possible. Vote ban would be the most abused feature ever, they will
never add that. Lastly, troll is not the right term for those players :P
 Griefer or Tk'er would be.

The votekick ban doesn't seem to actually work, since I have yet to see it
keep a votekicked 'player' away.

Voteban wouldn't be vulnerable to abuse as long as it only lasted until
the end of the session. Having votebans expire as soon as the game ends or
everybody leaves would be enough to see to that.

Griefing, TKing, and Trolling are different things. Griefing is
intentionally sabotaging the game, while trolling is using communication
abusively to elicit a response. Generally they all come as a package, but
occasionally you get a player who is actually playing the game but at the
same time being a wholly unpleasant person to be around.

2009-05-08 Thread msleeper
Install SourceMod and setup vote bans to be a publicly available
command, and set the ban duration to say 90 minutes or so. That's an
average length of a Coop game, and even if it's too short or too long,
it's plenty of time for someone else to join.

[hlds] SourceTV (TF2 and CS:S)

2009-05-08 Thread Alex
I've been wanting to record the gameplay in my clans server so we
finally got sourcetv up and running using a hidden slot. The problem is
they want it on all the time for administration purposes so im wondering
if it is possible to toggle sourcetv recording based on player count or
when the server has any number of people in it? Right not you need to
sift through hours of emptiness to get to a game. Also, i've been
wanting to get into video editing so I am wondering if any of you are
good with Sourcetv and would know anything about using it to make
videos. Thanks!

[hlds] Windows TF2 CPU Core Usage

2009-05-08 Thread Ben B
I've noticed a few people insisting that a full 32 slot tf2 server will only
use at most 5% of a cpu core.  How is this possible  I use linux servers,
and they always use 60-80% when 32 slots are full?

Is there something terribly wrong with the linux version, or is something wrong
in the way they're interpreting their usage?

If you make any progress on this, please make it public. It would be nice to
have SourceTV on all the time on our server, excepting when it's empty.
There's no reason to have hours of demos from overnight when the server is
empty. If you're willing to pay for the plugin to be made, I can point you
towards some great coders that take on comissions. If you're serious about
it, I'm sure we could probably find other admins to chip in with us so that
it's a reasonable price for all involved. It could also include things like
record demo of X length on demand, etc :)

Just an idea!

Re: [hlds] Windows TF2 CPU Core Usage

2009-05-08 Thread Midnight
In order for the game engine to run faster than 60fps you need to run a
fps boost tool, or other method to put the windows server into a state
where it will process faster. Essentially people who are seeing low CPU
utilization are running their servers at 60fps, what some are referring
to as unboosted, which frankly is probably just fine for a 32 slot pub.

I think the problem with those who are using 100% of a cpu are are
likely trying to run 1000fps servers, which is overkill for a large pub
server.

Re: [hlds] Windows TF2 CPU Core Usage

2009-05-08 Thread Cc2iscooL
Actually it also gives a false CPU usage.

Seeing as the server will use 0% utilization with under like 15 players.

It's just because the timer is lazy. I've tried limiting FPS and it doesn't
change CPU usage whatsoever from 1000fps down to 20 fpswell maybe a
little but it's not really noticeable.

You'll still crank out the box if you put too many slots on it. Doesn't
matter whether it's running or not, you'll see a performance hit either way.
It'll just seem like the box is okay, but the server FPS will be at like 10
FPS and you'll wonder why since the CPU usage will be like 15% :P

Great thanks! Some features that would be nice:
Start Sourcetv record with X number of players
Record SourceTV demo at XX:XX Time
Record SourceTV demo for XX:XX Time

And not sure if it could be done in sourcemod (very unlikely) but is
there a way to view time stamps within sourceTV demo files? Like say i
want to see when XXX Player pwned the entire team and he said it happend
around 5PM, is there a way to see in sourcetv what time it was when
the even occured?

have SourceTV on all the time on our server, excepting when it's empty.

If you want to discuss it further in private, you can email me or contact me
 on GameSurge's IRC at #hlserveradmins

I've been wanting to record the gameplay in my clans server so we
finally got sourcetv up and running using a hidden slot. The problem is
they want it on all the time for administration purposes so im wondering
if it is possible to toggle sourcetv recording based on player count or
when the server has any number of people in it? Right not you need to
sift through hours of emptiness to get to a game. Also, i've been
wanting to get into video editing so I am wondering if any of you are
good with Sourcetv and would know anything about using it to make
 videos. Thanks!

Re: [hlds] SourceTV (TF2 and CS:S)

2009-05-08 Thread Alex
I guess i should also mention it should allow ending of recordings at
XX:XX O'clock or when the player count goes below X

Possibly, not sure how willing my clan would be to do something like
that. I mean how much would a commission like this cost? With donations
we barely get by sometimes for our game servers so thats always a problem.

Bingo. You'd have to have it as a clicky link that opened in their steam
in-game browser. I wonder if you could do that...
