Re: [hlds] Issues updating HLDS

Sometimes, the update-tool can be really slow. Did you update the tool
before starting to update the server itself?

already and i'm using a batch file to update the install and i've
tried both with and without the -verify_all switch but nothing seems
to work, its already prompting for admin rights and i checked

[hlds] Many dumpfiles | No crahses | Assertion Failed: BOpenService failed [L4D + L4D2]

2009-10-30 Thread TheNob HLDS
Hi everyone,

I am running a hand full of L4D and L4D2 servers on my Windows Server 2008
system. Since several weeks now my L4D(main)-folder is filling over and over
with dumpfiles (*.mdmp). I also check every day my system logs for service
crashes (like game server instances) and there are only some few per week.
This means that not every dump file is caused by a crash. So I tried to deal
with the problem.

So far what I know:

   - Every time either when starting the game service or when the L4D
instance exits from hibernation (a player connects) a dump file is created.
   - The server console prints the following suspicious message:

*steamservice.cpp (229) : Assertion Failed: BOpenService failed (1060)*

#Console initialized.
#Unable to remove e:\valve\left4dead\l4d\left4dead\addonlist.txt!
#Game.dll loaded for L4D - Co-op - Normal
Server is hibernating
Queuing heartbeat send to legacy master server.
...
...
steamservice.cpp (229) : Assertion Failed: BOpenService failed (1060)
Queuing heartbeat send to steam master server updater.
...
...
steamservice.cpp (229) : Assertion Failed: BOpenService failed (1060)
   VAC secure mode is activated.
...
...

The same output if the server instance exits from hibernation.

I found some other forum threads but without any solutions.
http://forums.srcds.com/viewpost/78598

Well I have no crashes and since today the dump files are getting deleted by
my scheduled admin script which runs anyway.
But I think it would be cleaner and better if there were no dump files and
assertions in the first place. :)

Can anyone help me?

Thank you.

[hlds] OT: Is Valve aware of the client not attempting to decrypt pre-loads?

2009-10-30 Thread Steven Hartland
I know this more a forums issue but, so much noise on there its
not worth the bother.

Wondered if the guys at Valve where aware that steam more often
than not isn't attempting to decrypt preloads. Instead it just
tries to run the encrypted exe after unlock, which not surprisingly
doesn't work. You just get a black dos box which disappears after
a second.

The fix is to delete clientregistry.blob but this should really
be fixed as its happened to me now four times, once on each of
my machines for both Borderlands and L4D2 demo and to three other
people in the office, who joined to by the four pack for these
games.

Steve

Re: [hlds] Many dumpfiles | No crahses | Assertion Failed: BOpenService failed [L4D + L4D2]

2009-10-30 Thread ad...@cnsdev
I currently have 5 L4D servers running and I'm getting this message on
all of them - I have no idea why though but thought I should mention it,
at least then you know you're not alone. :) Also running Windows 2008, 64bit

TheNob HLDS wrote:

 Thank you.

 Windows solution to everything: Reinstall
Valve solution to everything: Delete clientregistry.blob

Wondered if the guys at Valve where aware that steam more often
than not isn't attempting to decrypt preloads. Instead it just
tries to run the encrypted exe after unlock, which not surprisingly
doesn't work. You just get a black dos box which disappears after
  a second.

The fix is to delete clientregistry.blob but this should really
be fixed as its happened to me now four times, once on each of
my machines for both Borderlands and L4D2 demo and to three other

[hlds] Left 4 Dead 2 Demo Update Available

2009-10-30 Thread Jason Ruymen
A required update is now available to the Left 4 Dead 2 Demo. Please run
hldsupdatetool to receive it. The specific changes include:

without a vote
- Public players are no longer matched to lobbies that are idle for a prolonged
period of time. These lobbies become Friends-only lobbies
- LAN servers list will now show listen server single player games as not

Linux changes:
- srcds_run now supports two new options -nodefaultmap and -steamverify
-nodefaultmap will suppress this behavior in case you have specified a
map in a config file
-steamverify will add -verify_all to the steam command line option when

Re: [hlds] Left 4 Dead 2 Demo Update Available

2009-10-30 Thread Craig McLure
Hi,

Was there a specific reason why sv_cheats now cannot be changed for lobby
based games on dedicated and local servers after this patch? Was hoping to
spend some more time playing about with settings :(

Thanks.

2009/10/31 Jason Ruymen jas...@valvesoftware.com

A required update is now available to the Left 4 Dead 2 Demo. Please run
hldsupdatetool to receive it. The specific changes include:

 Left 4 Dead 2:
 - Fixed bug that caused dedicated servers to become unjoinable over time
without a restart or heartbeat update
 - Fixed exploit that allowed players to end a campaign and return to the
 lobby without a vote
 - Public players are no longer matched to lobbies that are idle for a
prolonged period of time. These lobbies become Friends-only lobbies
 - LAN servers list will now show listen server single player games as not
joinable and will show game type as single player too

 Linux changes:
 - srcds_run now supports two new options -nodefaultmap and -steamverify
-nodefaultmap will suppress this behavior in case you have specified
a map in a config file
-steamverify will add -verify_all to the steam command line option
 when using -autoupdate
 - srcds_run will now automatically add the +map option to the command line
 unless +map is specified

 Jason

[hlds] Firedemon No Error Msg.

2009-10-30 Thread Attaul N

Anyone know the steam startup command to block valve servers from making a
popup error msg? I need firedemon to auto restart the servers once they crash.
Right now they crash and won't return till i manually reset them.

Thanks in advance.

Re: [hlds] Left 4 Dead 2 Demo 10/30 Update

2009-10-30 Thread Jonah Hirsch
Do you have your search key set to something like
sv_search_key 1010,key:mykeyhere
?

If so you'd need to change it to 1011. That fixed it up for me. (You need to
do this on most updates).

Re: [hlds] TF2 repeatable crash exploit posted to the forums

2009-10-30 Thread Tony Paloma
It's not a plugin problem. It happens on my servers which don't run sourcemod.
I can't repro it, but others can. I think there is a missing step/requirement
from the repro steps. Something like you must be sniped with the dead ringer
out (or sniped after being dead ringered), not just killed by any means.

I just went through and tried again on both Windows and Linux and was
unable to recreate the crash. If those who are experiencing this crash
could attempt the same thing on their server to see if it crashes, that
would be great. If it does crash, it's more than likely a plugin problem.
