[hlds] Question? for Valve SRCDS Network Team
After finally converting to SteamPipe server is experiencing loss on the net_graph. It isn't consistent loss, it's in bursts. Very minor spikes consistently, a big one every 5-10 minutes. This problem just started occurring after yesterday's update. Two things: 1. This has happened before and it literally ate me alive. Nothing fixed the problem, not removing metamod, sourcemod, running default rates. Finally, I reinstalled srcds from scratch fixed it. Ill do the same with SteamPipe today. 2. Could anyone from Valve please please please recommend optimal rate settings for 24 slot and 32 slot servers. These are my current configs. Why so high? Because this is what helps eliminate choke because of the high update rate. sv_minrate 10 sv_maxrate 20 (just because I have 100mbit port, not enough bandwidth) sv_minupdaterate 47 sv_maxupdaterate 66 sv_mincmdrate 47 sv_maxcmdrate 66 Now I used to force a 66 update and 66 cmd rate on clients and it worked fine but because of the consistent loss bursts, I toned it down. What do you recommend the settings for rate be for 32 slot servers? [hlds] Server cvars, complete list?
Good morning folks. I was curious is anyone happens to know of an updated and complete list of server cvars, complete with a small description of each one? The game I would mostly be referring to is TF2 but I figured the list is most likely nearly universal. There used to be a website with a complete list but the information happens to be out of date by a few years and I know some cvars have come and gone. I know some have been completely stripped and aren't used anymore, etc. I know you can get information from the console but figured Fletcher or other staff might have a text document, spreadsheet, something...with this information on hand. Or maybe one of you server operators might have created a list yourself. Any luck? Re: [hlds] Question? for Valve SRCDS Network Team
On our servers we set the minimums pretty low (1, 20, 20) to allow clients to set the rates that work best for them. I know as a player when I'm behind a slower internet connection, it REALLY helps to turn down all three (choke is better than latency spikes due to network congestion), whereas on a nice fast internet connection 20, 66, 66 is the smoothest. - Peter On May 14, 2013, at 6:57 AM, Supreet Sahni coachcrock...@gmail.com wrote: sv_minrate 10 sv_maxrate 20 (just because I have 100mbit port, not enough bandwidth) sv_minupdaterate 47 sv_maxupdaterate 66 sv_mincmdrate 47 sv_maxcmdrate 66 Now I used to force a 66 update and 66 cmd rate on clients and it worked fine but because of the consistent loss bursts, I toned it down. I had thought I created the file, but it's highly possible it does work. If it doesn't work for you, I have a horrible, horrible SM extension available. What it does is capture VProf output text and will write it to a file. What it isn't is portable across platforms, good, or even not a cat killer. But if you're after trying the vprof approach, you're welcome to try it. I can probably fix it up (and make it a MM:S plugin, un-hardcode things) if there's any interest, but I'm hoping Valve fixes VProf before that happens. I probably won't compile/support a Windows version as VTrace / Telemetry is probably a better way forward. The files will be dumped in the directory that Peter Jerde mentioned (vprof/). If the directory doesn't exist, you'll probably have to create it by hand. http://stuff.plaguefest.com/kyle/vprof.tar.xz ( tar xJvf vprof.tar.xz ) There's only TF and CS:S binaries in there. The extension can probably be independent, but this isn't intended as a fix, rather a stopgap. If you've never used a lone extension before, you either need to manually load it, or create a .autoload file alongside the extension (VProfExt.autoload). Hope this helps, Kyle. Personally, I and many others stand by Symantec products. I was just looking for a bit more insight as to why out of 175k files split between my hlds/srcds directories, this one file is the ONLY issue... or, possibly others were seeing it to. In my 13 years of fiddling with srcds/hlds games, all while using Symantec products, I've never had an issue. Anyways... moving on... Re: [hlds] Disable blood
tf_birthday 1 will do that, but it makes it more cartoonish as well. I don't think there's another way to do it as those effects are client-side IIRC. Re: [hlds] Disable blood
Blood particle effects are client-side, but blood from being shot/another playing shooting another player is server-side, and can technically be blocked with a plugin. Just for clarity, I am not with Valve. However, they typically post their outages in the Steam Downtime Announcements thread on the Steam Forums.
