Re: [hlds] Why is m_pitch restricted when m_yaw is not?

2010-10-31 Thread Sam Horn
If I try to change m_pitch in TF2 and then check the value after I get this
message:

m_pitch = 0.022000 ( def. 0.022 )
** NOTE: The real value is 0.100 but the server has temporarily restricted
it to 0.022 **

This is on a server with base SourceMod only.

I tried my testbox and after fiddling around it seems it might be

My win2k3 server is boosted and all my servers idle at 500fps except

Being I could re-produce the crash on Vista by adding +fps_max 600,

Re: [hlds] Reserved Slots

2009-06-02 Thread Sam Horn
The other alternative is to hide the slots so that they don't get displayed
in the server browser. The servers I frequent have 26 slots but 2 of them
are reserved and the server browser only displays 24. Nobody gets kicked,
everyone stays happy.

- Sam

2009/6/2 msleeper mslee...@cyberwurx.com

The immunity thing is for if you have members in your database that
don't have a reserved slot, but do have an immunity level. This grants
them somewhat of a reserved slot, but rather they are less likely to
be kicked to free a slot. I personally don't have my system setup like
that, either you have a reserved slot or you don't. If you do it that
way then it's very simple to use. I've been using cbaseserver for a
while and Jamster's plugin since he wrote it and I've never had a
problem. As pred said, cbasewin indeed.

To everyone who bitches and whines about being kicked because of a
reserved slot, you need to get real. If you're a random dude in a random
server then yeah, odds are you are less important than a guy who has
played there for 2 years and is a member of THEIR community. I'm
actually pretty surprised people are so offended by this concept.

battlements of 2Fort, getting shot, quickly running into cover, decloaking,
rinse and repeat.

I would like to see a regen rate that increases when the spy is only cloaked
for a short amount of time, though.

Confirmed, it was the DR. I think a slightly longer cloak and shorter

needed when decloaking it seems overkill. Put all this together and
you have a unlock about as useful as the sandvich and bonk.

Why the big secret? :) It's not like steamgroups are very valuable
 anymore.

Here's a list of what you have to do to invite players that join your
  server.

Step 1: Make sure you have everything you need to support this. Install
 the
scripting language Python so you can run the conversion script that
converts steam ID's to community ID's. Location:
  http://www.weckstrom.com/(since http://www.weckstrom.com/%28since
http://www.weckstrom.com/%28sincethere's nothing really built in with
Windows that supports 64 bit integer
math). Grab the script called sid_convert.py (
  http://www.weckstrom.com/steamstuff/sidconv.txt) ---rename to .py

I also recommend getting a small executable called cmsort, which will
 let
you filter out dupes really easily (cmsort /d file1.txt output.txt)

Step 2: Log scraping. If you look at your server logs, every steam ID
 will
be captured in it. You need to loop through it and get all those ID's.
Here's a quick script that will do it from a windows command prompt:

  @echo off
type *.log | find STEAM_ c:\temp\scrape.txt
  cmsort /d c:\temp\scrape.txt C:\temp\steamids.txt
  for /f %%a in (c:\temp\steamids.txt) do c:\python\python.exe sidconv.py
 %%a
  c:\temp\communitylist.txt

Once that's done, you now have a list of community ID's in
  c:\temp\communitylist.txt

Step 3: Now that you have that, you can spam them via IE (Make sure you
FIRST configure IE to NOT open a new tab when a url is launched from an
outside app - simple config item under tools internet options).

-Log in to Steam via IE with your username/password
-Use a small script the spam around 120 invites per hour... the limit is
200, so you can tailor this for your own needs:

  @Echo off
REM You need to know your own Inviter ID and Group ID :)
  SET GROUPID=103582733552053221
  SET INVITERID=76561198092836596
REM This script assumes you're logged in to steam already via IE :)
  for /f %%a in (c:\temp\communitylist.txt) do call :LOOP %%a
  goto :END

  :LOOP
  start http://steamcommunity.com/actions/GroupInvite?type=groupInvite
  ^inviter=%INVITERID%^invitee=%1^group=%GROUPID%
REM Ping a dummy address for 40ish seconds before doing the next invite
 :)
  ping 1.1.1.1 -n 1 -w 4 nul
  goto :END

  :END

I have all of the above automated so I never have to touch it. If anyone
manages to get this working on their own and would like some tips on how
 to
do automatic logons (good idea to do them from time to time), let me
 know.

 He

only takes one head shot from the sniper rifle, even if you are 100 100,
 and
you die. So - before we ban him, I need to know for sure - how can a player
take two head shots from a sniper rifle and live?

Re: [hlds] [L4D] Server Browser List Custom Tab

2009-03-13 Thread Sam Horn
The main reasons for the server browser is to fix the shortcomings of the
lobby: to able to join modded/unmodded servers, find a server with a good
ping, use the history tab to find servers you know are high-quality... the
lobby system is ideal for something like Left 4 Dead, but it needs to be
improved to a decent level before it can even be considered to be more
effective than the server browser.

- Sam Horn

2009/3/13 Richard Eid richard@gmail.com

While it's odd that the console shows that the default for alltalk is 1,
 the
actual default is 0. I don't set that CVar in my server config files and
from a clean start of the server, sv_alltalk is set to 0.

Regardless, the server browser is a big fail for Left 4 Dead. And I'm not
talking about its implementation in the game, I'm just talking about its
actual usefulness. It just doesn't work for a game of this nature. The
Lobby system is a far better solution and works fine for everyone I know
that plays Left 4 Dead. It has its flaws, sure, but over time and with
community input, I'm sure Valve will work to address the current
 shortcomings.

In your opinion, what benefits does the server browser offer over the
 lobby?

Curious if anyone knew this, but based on peoples reports of not being

adding the sv_gametypes coop, versus tag was helpful. SourceMod is
  placed

Both servers ONLY show up on the Custom tab, which I'm not so worried

 is
first time I really looked close, but when using sv_search_key -- that
  also
shows up in the tags list? I guess that makes sense, however, I

You're free to think that. I think it is noble, and I think that if I
had released this sooner - say, right after the Medic update - then
maybe people would not have become as complacent with farming in the
first place. Your example is bad too, by the way, because it implies
that toys are bad. A better example would be posing as an underage girl
and luring people to see you for sex, but then the police show up and
bust you. If you weren't going to be doing something against the rules,
you wouldn't have been there in the first place.

And, yet again, I need to reiterate that this plugin is designed for
communities who feel similarly about farming. Farming may be a-okay on

I love the fact that I can get updates from the list via email. It
looks like a lot of admins use blackbarrys or iPhones and the ability
to use that to interact with the list is crucial.

Another nice thing about this list is that it's made up of mostly
mature server admins and not a lot of the general public so as bad as
it gets we don't have to deal with to many non-stop B.S. sessions.

A section where you have to be a member would be a great idea. Now we
would just need some way to qualify someone that wants to join

The intent of migrating to the forums was to leverage the benefits

giving us a central spot to gather feedback. The forum software is
continually being updated by vBulletin and is flexible enough to
also allow us to add our own features.

To address a couple of specific concerns about the forums:

  - Membership - We can keep the membership in the DS forums private
so that random forum users cannot post.
  - Moderation - We can assign moderators for specific forums.
Moderators would be volunteers from the current mailing list
  participants.
  - Forum server performance - We have upgraded the system that runs
the forums and we do not experience the lag we were experiencing in
  the past
  - The forums are accessible to more people than the mailing list.

We want to make things better, not worse. We appreciate any further
  feedback you have to offer.

Re: [hlds] Important notice regarding the HLDS mailing lists

2009-02-09 Thread Sam Horn
Perhaps the forum (if this does eventuate) should be made 'invisible' to
non-members? (ie. if you aren't a member, you don't see it in the list)

- Sam Horn

2009/2/10 Mike Stiehm mikesti...@gmail.com

Most people don't know about the list unless they install a server and
are made aware of it by the update tool so that is a type of control
 in itself
