[hlds] Please add the option customize bans file save location

2008-05-16 Thread Steven Hartland
Its that time again where I request the option to customise
the location where bans are stored.

Every other part of a hlds server can be configured except
this, please please add it.

If you want to be really nice and make admins life much
easier add an option to root the servers config directory
so the server will look in a specified directory for all
config related files before it goes to /cfg.

For more info on both these see my posts in the archive
titled:-
1. A quick fix to make Source infinitely more GSP friendly
   ( posted 27 February 2008 21:42 )
2. banlists still broken + config system enhancement request
   ( posted 25 October 2007 01:47 )
3. CSS Hardcoded banlist path
   ( 17 October 2005 14:58 )

Alfred has responded to at least one of these but we still
to date haven't had a fix. I really should be a simple one
and would be most appreciated so I hope it can get added.

Regards
Steve

I agree that a user-set config directory would be nice...running
multiple servers off the same installation would be much easier in that
regard, and most other games already support a base config directory.
Why not source?

You cannot fix this with any script, it can only be fixed

All I have to do is ban someone from one server and he's automatically banned
from the rest of my servers

2008-05-16 Thread Mike Stiehm
I know its a huge pain in the ass but I run a new directory
for every server and I can say it has saved me more then one
time. It does take a long time to make changes to the servers
but I like the simplicity of it. I'm not opposed to the system
you are proposing but it should have an on and off switch or
of the sorts.

Take care guys and enjoy this weekend ;)

Re: [hlds] Please add the option customize bans file save location

2008-05-16 Thread Andrew Armstrong
I hate posts getting side tracked on this list :|

It's a very nice feature request.

If a 'config directory' was specified, eg:

Srcds.exe -console -game cstrike -configdir server2/

Then instead of srcds accessing /cstrike/addons/load plugins it could
check /cstrike/server2/addons/load plugins as well as
/cstrike/server2/cfg/server.cfg etc.

I think such an option would be really helpful to allow different plugins to
be loaded from the same game installed per server.

Re: [hlds] Please add the option customize bans file save location

2008-05-16 Thread Steven Hartland
Parva? I didn't know my name had suddenly changed, wish people
would tell me when that happened :P but enough of totally
off topic

If you read the original mail, so your actually talking about
the right thing, it might help.

I'm talking about the fact that server1 and server2, run
from the same install, will merrily overwrite each others ban
files.

Batch files don't help, symlinks don't help, the only way to
fix this to add a config option to the engine so we can
define where they are written to.

Regards
Steve
