Re: [hlds] Windows Control Panel
Although our ServerChecker v3.x is not being actively developed at the moment; it is rock solid for the games it supports. Especially HLDS/ SRCDS. It will *not* randomly turn your gameservers on and off just like that. It will only happen if.. a) the process dies, or.. b) the gameserver stops responding to status queries (or something prevents SC from querying it). The issue you are experiencing is therefore more likely related to instability issues with your gameserver. If they do not come back up, it can be due to a serverchecker misconfiguration (e.g. insufficient start time for a server that is slow to restart), an issue with the gameserver that causes it to continuously crash/go into a crash-loop, or for an example windows error reporting being enabled - which causes an error dialogue to pop up and prevent a restart of the gameserver. I would therefore recommend that you take a serious look at what might be causing your servers to crash / the restart to fail, instead of wasting your time looking for alternative monitoring tools. If you have been running the servers for quite some time without issues, and the problem has started occurring recently, you might want to check any recently added plugins (disabling them temporarily to see if that helps) - and also make sure your server is hardened against exploits that can crash your server. There are *a lot* of them for SRCDS these days (if that's what you are running) - see http://wiki.alliedmods.net/SRCDS_Hardening - for more information. The RCON one seems to be particularly common, used both intentionally and unintentionally (players w/ binds/ scripts for war management and similar that are accidentally fired off). Feel free to pop by our forum (dumbclan.co.uk) and ask for help in the Development section, and I will be happy to run you through some basic troubleshooting. Good luck. :) - TeX. Re: [hlds] Windows Control Panel
Online based control panels can have so many more issues occur since they require the website on the box to communicate with the application that runs the actual game server. They also tend to be slow, in remote desktop everything is instant. Server Checker doesnt seem to like Windows 2008 R2 x64, Im pretty sure it was designed for server 2003. The issues just started happening, nothing has changed, there are no minidumps to indicate a crash, server box just restarted too. This morning I woke up to find every single server offline with server checker showing them as online, there were no instances of SRCDS open. My recently updated reboot script uses the _restart command but I dont see why server checker would care if it used quit or _restart. Nevertheless, serverdoc seems lame to make you update the application so often, even if there isnt an update and even if you donate. Although a control panel that auto updates servers for me would make me put the website issue behind me. Also, I dont mind paying a little but a monthly subscription for a CP is distasteful. Re: [hlds] Windows Control Panel
Any particular progress on V4? I've been using serverchecker for ages and would love an update. Also, i know it's doubtful, but do you think there will ever be even a miniscule update to v3 that lets yo control the servers via commandline? eg i could do ServerChecker.exe /Stop Server 1, and mix that with an update to tf2. currently i have to literally remote into the box, stop the server, update, and start it instead of being able to do it remotely or give admins the ability to update it. That, and a fix for the errors that come up on server 2k8r2 would be a great holdover until someday v4 comes out. Not sure if you'll see this, so i may just go ahead and email you directly after this Thanks, -Jeff On Thu, Apr 8, 2010 at 3:16 PM, TeXas te...@dumbclan.co.uk wrote: Although our ServerChecker v3.x is not being actively developed at the moment; it is rock solid for the games it supports. If you're not after a game control panel (why not out of interest?), you may want to check out GameMon - http://mammoth.com.au/resources/ which may be what you're after. It's a watchdog program that simply monitors servers and gives you some nice options. 'GameMon is a simple application for Windows and Linux that allows monitoring of any game server that can be queried with QStat. GameMon supports a variety of operations, such as the restarting of a failed game server and the scheduled restarting of game servers. GameMon can detect failed servers by a number of methods - checking to see if the server is no longer queryable via QStat or checking to see if the process has failed. It is an effective solution to aid increased uptime on game services. GameMon is free, open source software.' Disclaimer: I work for Mammoth Media, the developers of the software.
