[ilugd] [Basic Question]:Problem in Configuring Linux client to access internet

2008-07-06 Thread santosh dubey
Dear All,

I have windows as server (2 NIC - XP Home ) and Linux as client (1 NIC - CentOS
5.2). They are connected with cross-over cable (Home Setup). Both computer can
ping each other on Local NIC.

Linux can connect to internet if directly attach to modem.

But if I change network properties on Linux ( it's IP, default dateway to
windows local nic and BOOTPROTO to static) then I cannot connect to internet
(but can ping windows).

Even I installed Free proxy on windows and changed connection propoerties in
Firefox on linux but no affect.

I didnt changed  /etc/hosts and /etc/resolve.conf.

Please let me know what is missing on linux box to enable this feature.

I will be very thankful to you.

Santosh Kumar Dubey

PS:

I want this setup for faster internet access and running servers like apache on
linux. My machines are old so graphical linux is slow but windows is ok.

[ilugd] A Question for RH302 (RHCE)

2006-07-15 Thread santosh dubey
Hi All,

Can I directly take RHCE exam on RH302 with a good preaparation?
  On RedHat website, it shows..
  Some Linux Knowledge--RH133--RH253--RH302

Going for three exam is very costly on personal basis.
If someone has done RH302, pls suggest me..
  1. Only knowledge on command line is sufficient. I am afraid of GUI and dont
want to this.
  2. I am using Fedora 5. I dont have RHEL4. It is not free and i cant get it.
Fedora 5 is sufficient or not.
3.RH302 is sufficient in present job scenario or I need to do some other
certification of RedHat.
I am already Sun Certified System Administrator for Solaris 9 .

Your suggestions will help me to move further.
  Thanks
  Have a nice day.

[ilugd] Apache to listen on two ports???

2005-12-09 Thread santosh dubey
Dear All,
I implemented apache to listen on two ports namely 80 abd 8080 with different
document roots.
when i hit http://192.168.8.132:80/ and http://192.168.8.132:8080/ it works
fine and displays corresponding pages but drops port number in request and
plainly shows
  http://192.168.8.132/webroot/cgi-bin/skdubey.cgi.

  I have done
  NameVirtualhost 192.168.8.132:80
NameVirtualhost 192.168.8.132:8080
  Virtualhost 192.168.8.132:80
  DocumentRoot /home/skdubey/htdocs
  /Virtaulhost
Virtualhost 192.168.8.132:8080
  DocumentRoot /home/amit/htdocs

What should i do to retain port number in browser?

  pls suggest.

Is it possible to run such scripts from apache.?? if yes then how to do that?

Re: [ilugd] Prob. Apache can't execute cgi???

2005-12-07 Thread santosh dubey
Dear Mithun,

  1. Did you run a chkconfig I think there is a problem in the line

  Order allow,deny Allow from All

2. Why do you need to enable ExecCGI on your document root ?

Actually my server was not executing cgi but after doing scriptalias it is
executing such scripts.

3. Are your scripts given execute permission ?
yes .. it is 755 and working properly..

4. Do you have the following entry at the top of every perl file:
#!/usr/bin/perl -wT
yes offcourse...

We have some testing tools which run as scriptsi want to convert them in
web based. they are working as root and need access to some directory outside
document root. that's why i need to run them as root. But apache is not
executing them as root. I got information to rebuild apache with suExec
support. But rebuilding of server is not possible.
If you have any idea,,pls suggest me. previously i have done same things with
suidperl but it is not on our server.

[ilugd] Basic Ques. : IPTABLES (FC2)

2005-09-25 Thread santosh dubey
Dear Sys Admins,

1. I have seen a chain RH-FIREWALL-1-INPUT in some
documentation for filter table. Actually it is a
target for INPUT and OUTPUT chain.
Is there any benefit to use it or simply write my
rules in convetional way using iptables.

2. Second question is very basic. In /etc/services
each service has two protocols tcp and udp. But it is
very clear that some services are based on 'tcp' then
why 'udp' is listed there in front of name of this
service.

Thanks

Have a nice day.

According to one of the most reliable sources
 around,
RT Systems are those whose correctness includes its
response time as well as its functional correctness.

The above basically means that apart from the
 correct
working of the system itself, how fast you get a
response also matters a lot. In this regard, such
systems get classified into Hard and Soft Real time
 systems. google for more info!

 How it is different from
  Mandrake,Fedora and RH etc.

The distros mentioned above are user level distros -
they are used on desktop applications, server
management, development, blah - but essentially, by
 a
human being sitting on a computer. RT Systems are
deployed on satellites, missiles and such - that is
where the term 'embedded' comes in as well.

These systems have to gather data, and act on it in
 a
very fast loop, in order to ensure the safety of the
device they're on, or any other factors which may be
 in play.

A really cool article I read in LinuxJournal on
 Linux
 and satellites :
 http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/7767

From where i can download it??? How the term
  embedded
  is related with it??

Search for VxWorks, RTLinux, FreeRTOS, LynuxWorks
 etc.

 Cheers,

Re: [ilugd] User restriction

Hi Vidyanand,

in /etc/passwd, specify shell to /bin/rbash for the
user. This shell is restricted bash shell and user
will be confined to his home dir and sub dir. he can't
move elsewhere.
I have done it and certainly it will solve the matter.

[ilugd] Thanks | but things are not sufficient for documentation project

2004-08-17 Thread santosh dubey
Hi all,

i am very happy to see ur interest in my
suggestion...i visited documentation section of
website and find 2-3 pdf's . they are very good but
does not cover things which are needed in day by day
activity.
Even i am not very active on this list ( i am member
from last 3-4 years) due to my busy schedule. but i
will try to start such a project and will make life
very much easy for others who want to do things what i
have done.
i am alone but if thousand of brains (among you) will
give contribution then we will make KISS principle a
reality. (don't confuse KISS means Keep It Simple
STUPID , so that any stupid can understand.)
So it is my final call to peoples to give contribution
in the form of hints, installation notes etc which
will be result of there practical work and for others
it will work line by line command by command.
If someone irritates with me then i am sorry

anyway

have a nice day.

[ilugd] A Suggestion to make linux and LUG more popular

2004-08-16 Thread santosh dubey
Hi Linux Users,

I have a suggestion to make using linux more easy and more popular from our
community(Delhi Linux user group).
Just making ourself of asking and responsing questions we can do something more
exciting.
i know, All of us have some mastery in our respective domain. We should start a project
on this website (or some other convenient place) where we will put article's regarding
configuration, programming etc. in such a simple language that a most stupid person in
the universe can easily understand them. It is only posible if article will be result
of our actual practicle work.
Let me take a very simple example example (i am programmer)...
a article may be how to install java on linux...
in this case we can show which variables need to be declared (like JAVA_HOME), how to
set path for bin directory etc..., in the same manner as how i installed on my
computer..line by line..command by command...
i think you may understand what i want to say...such a work is very necessary in the
field of system administration...
true, there are so many documentations but either they are out of date or written in
such a way that it is re-inventing wheel by each person who want to do that.
this is my personal experience as i have written a small documentation of installation
of iReport (utility to draw report using java) and getting respons from around the
world.
in this way we may save time of many of peoples and if they will find our
documentation helpful, certainly they will be with us keeping penguin in there hand.
Anyway this is my view ...if you don't like it and have something hard to say to
me..pls excuse me...

have a nice day.

[ilugd] Thanks Amitabh Trehan

2003-07-05 Thread santosh dubey

Dear Amitabh,
thanks for your suggestion. i will implement it. i have downloaded axis from apache's
site.
have a nice day.

Amitabh Trehan [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Firstly, it is a very bad practice to always work in
root! it is alright if you temporarily become root
through the su command. What seems to be wrong here is
that the axis installation is a copy from the machine
of the person who wrote the installer where the owner
had uid 1005 and group 513. So, check your
/etc/passwd if there is such an id and group. Then,
prob you should create a user axis with uid 1005 and
group axis with id 513. you can use
redhat-config-users if you are on RH.
I dont know anything about axis so the above
heuristics are only general.
