[IMail Forum] Mail Problem-Optimize
Hello all. Two questions. I am running 8.05 HF2 on W2K with all patches. 1. Optimize performance. What queue manager settings should be used for optimum performance? IE, delivery threads, listen pipes, etc. With the added virus and spam load I want to try to get IMail's performance as high as possible. 2. We are experiencing an odd problem. One of my virtual domains is not able to retrieve email. They are able to login, and are getting as far as retrieving message 1 of 32. But then they time out. This just started on Friday last. They can surf fine and send email ok, although they send and surf through another Internet provider. They can ping and tracert to my email server fine, I even had them put the direct IP instead of the name of the mail server. Same issue. One of their employees at home has the same issue eliminating the Internet connection as the problem. Hi Kelly. Some good suggestions so far to help. Here are maybe some more. You are still running NT4 SP6a. Try W2K server. Much more stable for IMail in my experience. Also, disable the onboard NIC and get a 3COM NIC designed for NT4 or W2K server. Or, load the post SP6a Rollup to bring NT4 right up to date. Defrag is a very good suggestion. We use Diskeeper and have it scheduled to run at 3:00am every morning. Makes the machine loads quicker. Make sure the paging file is 2 to 2.5 times to size of your RAM. Hope you find a solution. Need any more help, e-mail the list, or me off the list [the list will have more resources :-)]. p.s. Get rid of BIND 4.9.7 and upgrade to BIND 8.2.4. Much better. Just FYI. Here might be some help. If the GOOD customer always send's from the same IP address, then use the logs and track the e-mail that is sent from him, NOT at that IP address. Then track that IP back. If it is one of your customers, then you will be able to match the IP with a login time for a user account. Then suspend that user for spamming. If it's not an IP of a customer then change the GOOD users password and check to make sure IMail is secure. Re: [IMail Forum] HELP! can't send mail to a domain and can'tfigure out why
I can ping 209.223.133.9 and telnet to port 25 on that IP. Works fine. My temporary suggestion to get the email flowing, would be to hardcode that domain into the host file so IMail uses it. Add this line to the c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\host file: edmarshalljewelers.com 209.223.133.9 Then stop and restart the SMTP service. Then IMail will send the email to that address. That is a temp fix but gives to time to find a permanent one. As long as that works, that may even be your permanent fix. [IMail Forum] Intermittent List Problem
Hello All. Have a problem...sort of. Everything works fine. However, sometimes [randomly] I get super huge log files and when I open them I see the following about every 4th line: 1252 LST Imailsrv - [EMAIL PROTECTED] illegal Imail list server command The number is never the same. I can't see how this starts it just does. The Imail server keeps running, everything is fine but the logs are enormous. That is the only line that shows up. The timing is random. Might not see this for a month, then it just starts. I stop and restart, still there. I stop, clear the queue and it's fine. I have checked the queue before I clear it and see no messages involving list servers. Any thoughts? Attack maybe? Again, email flows fine, just huge logs. W2K Server SP2, IMail 6.06. [IMail Forum] FYI
Security Alert, May 24, 2002 * BUFFER OVERFLOW IN IPSWITCH'S IMAIL SERVER Foundstone Labs discovered that a buffer overflow condition exists in the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) component of Ipswitch's IMail Server, which can result in a Denial of Service (DoS) attack. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability to remotely execute arbitrary code by using the privileges of the IMail daemon, which typically has the default of SYSTEM. Ipswitch has released Hotfix 1 for IMail Server 7.10, which addresses this vulnerability. Users who have earlier versions of IMail Server will need to upgrade to version 7.10. http://www.secadministrator.com/articles/index.cfm?articleID=25294 Just FYI for everyone. [IMail Forum] Web Messaging
Hello All. We are running IMail 6.06. One of my customers has found a peculiar error with web messaging. On his laptop using IE 6.0 with all patches, if I connect through dial-up from his house (about 26kbps) then I cannot delete message from the web interface. I get no error message, I just select the file to delete, click delete and the screen refreshes but the message is still there. However, if I connect dial-in from his office (about 46kbps) then it works fine. Or if I bring his laptop to my office and connect to the LAN then it works fine as well. It seems if the connection is slow certain web features fail to function. Anyone ever seen this before and any fixes or thoughts? Under this configuration, you *can* exclude certain directories from the scheduled scans. If you are using NAV CE 7.5+ then the best solution is to install one machine as the server. Then install the client roll-outs from that server. This allows you to manage the client and fully select and exclude files and directories. I run this setup with several companies and it works quite well. The clients are seamless and the users don't even know they have AV. All is managed from the one server. IMail looks here first and if it finds the domain here it doesn't do a DNS lookup. That should work. I have several domains that I handle this way (about half dozen).
