Oh. It happens .
One observation made by me regarding the blooms : I observed that the
flowers turn towards the sun. As the sun moves the direction of the
flowers also change. Hence, you get the back portion of the flowers when
you take photographs in the morning sun light . If you try to photograph
in the after noon also ( around 4 p.m ) the problem is they will be
facing the sun. With the result most of the photographers end up with back
portion of the flowers. If you try taking photographs in the morning
(dawn) from the western side one can get the front view of the flowers.
But the light is a problem. After sun rise, the the light is in the
opposite direction! I will post the photographs taken by me at Mysore.

Does the baccifera also have a variety with greenish flowers?
Its also amazing that while it grows in marshy areas/ dry beds it does
well as an aquarium plant !!

The Tamil name has is expressive , meaning fire on water, referring
perhaps to the reddish flowers on a plant growing in the marshes.

Here is the link of Nilgiri Wood Pigeon (Columba elphinstonii), an IUCN red

 Hello all,

It is (or it was) perceived that Malabar Whistling Thrushs are breeding
visitors in Mumbai wildlife region. Particularly in Monsson they are seen
and observed near the flowing streams. They are sometimes located and
identified through their typical whistling call adn sometimes through their
quick flight type appearance, in the wild.

Today (i.e. 2nd March`12) my team were on our regular field visit and sat
near a small dam where water was leaking through a broken channel. Apart
from Asian Paradise Flycatchers (male females), Red Whiskered Bulbuls,
Verditer Flycatcher, Yellow Wagtail, Golden Chloropsis, Orange Headed
Thrush, Blue Capped Rock Thrush Asian Brown Flycatcher, we observed the
continuous calls of Emerald Dove but as usual, this patch of evergreen
forest made us no ease in locating them. All of sudden a bluish bird
appeared from bushes with whistling note. The quick hit , in my mind, was
Malabar Whistling Thrush. But this is not the season for this bird to
appear, I argued myself. We all scanned the area adn waited there for good
 10 minutes.

Anish Kadam Mandar Sawant were told to keep their eyes open from
opposite side of the bushes and me Raju Shelar were looking at this side
of the bushes. The bird , with its typical whistling call, appeared from
bushes and went inside the structure of damaged dam. And thereafter it
didnt appeared at all. All we could understand that it had something, which
we assumed to be, nesting materiel. Now the question or the query is (a)
Are they observed in this season, earlier? (b) Do they breed at this time
 of the year, as well?

The rest of the day was with few more good surprises such as 3 individual
Nilgiri wood Pigeons were observed. A long battle (fight for food) was
observed between Common Kestrel, Common Buzzard and Black Shouldered Kite,
subsequently. The Bombax cieba were in full bloom. The lone Bombax insigne
had no flowers today. Butea monosperma are fading now. Among several Kkusum
trees (Schleichera oleosa), one had started flowering now.

very much afraid of our flora world because of my ignorance. It is not that
i know something about fauna but they are moving type!

I think our education system needs total overhaul. There is very little
scope of getting acquainted with even one's own surroundings, e.g. i read a

Sir,

Last night i failed to send any post using my email. Each post returned
showing me 'mail delivery failure' notice.

Following this i used the efloraindia website directly to post images of 3
species (*Ricinus* *sp*., *Justicia* *adhatoda* *Pseuderanthemum* *
reticulatum*).

But i fail to find any of those 3 posts in the eflora site. What could be
the reason behind it? Should i post them again?

'Sheema' generally indicates anything that is exotic (that has come
crossing the seas)
and konna generally refers to any cassia in Malayalam.
