It doesn't look like *Myristica *to me. If at all, then it may be M. fragrance for the shape and texture of fruits, and not M. malabarica for sure. But, the description of fruit and leaf provided by Tejasvi ji, leads more to *Ximenia americana*. A clearer picture of fruits and leaves would help to confirm the id. Alok ji Geranium wallichianum can be easily differentiated from other large flowered species (G. collinum, G. grevilleanum, G. wallichianum, G. tuberaria) in that stipules are very large (1-2 cm long), very broad (ovate-oblong) and often common between two leaves on each side(due to fusion of two adjacent stipules; may be often bifid). In other species the stipules are very narrow, linear, usually less than 1 cm long and two between two adjacent leaves on each side (they are free not united). http://efloras.org/object_page.aspx?object_id=109504flora_id=2 http://efloras.org/object_page.aspx?object_id=86584flora_id=5 -- Dr. Gurcharan Singh Retired Associate Professor SGTB Khalsa College, University of Delhi, Delhi-110007 Res: 932 Anand Kunj, Vikas Puri, New Delhi-110018. [efloraofindia:83135] Re: ID 210911 SB03
Diospyros ok... what kind? I cant tell just from leaves.. not an expert by any means BUT but definitely not Nyctanthus.. Parijat leaves.. young ones are never red... AND never droop as they are here...in the second set of pictures... I should perhaps know... my mom's garden had two... for more than 40 years... I grew up playing under them... and collecting flowers... local women came to collect these ..they used to leave their saris spread under the trees.. since the flowers open around 4 am and drop as the day light becomes harsher..best one were the ones that dropped early on.. used for various pujas... and some underhanded folks use the dried stalks to adulterate saffron sold in the market ... @Bhagyashri: what you wrote about Parijat is true.. but this plant in the pic is not a Parijat...
