[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Early Morning TP's for 11-8

2009-12-08 Thread d1028gary
Hello All,

With both the local weather and the TP conditions seemingly entering a deep
freeze here, DXing was attempted at 0900 UTC with a 3' homemade bedside
loop, and hopes of strong TP's during the Asian sunset.
As is usual during this period, signals were up and down, and required some
serious patience before anything strong stepped out of the TP pack.
Because of the awkward local hour, though (0100), patience is usually hard to
come by.

Around 0920 five stations were fading in and out with audio, namely
594-JOUK, 657-Pyongyang (strong warbling carrier, but puny audio), 747-JOIB,
972-HLCA and 1134-JOQR. These five stations played hide-and-seek until around
0945, when the game became too inconvenient to continue. Only these five
seemed to make it to audio-- the lesser TP's stayed at weak carrier level. Of
the five, 594-JOAK seemed to have the best signal, with this recording
of a lady announcer at 0922 UTC.

_http://www.mediafire.com/?wmwejidqjnk_
(http://www.mediafire.com/?wmwejidqjnk)

After this mediocre DXing session, a band check was made at 1510 UTC,
during which the previous five TP's never seemed close to audio. So perhaps the

Asian sunset period really did have the propagation edge this morning,
although it certainly wasn't anything to shout about. After considering the
entire process, I'm still having trouble believing I was chasing DX like
594-JOAK, and even recording it. I guess it shows what happens when the demise
of the Asian TP season causes withdrawal symptoms :-)

[IRCA] Finally Back on the South Prairie

2009-12-08 Thread John H. Bryant

Bakersfield and turn left which takes us through central Arizona and
in through Amarillo to northcentral Oklahoma.

When we got to Needles on the CA/AZ border, we heard of a nasty snow
storm in Eastern NM, running as far south as Houston, so we diverted
even further South, having a nice reunion with Linda's ASU nursing
school classmates in Phoenix and then on thru Tucson, El Paso,
Midland-Odessa and Ft. Worth to see the grandchildren then a
carefully-timed run straight north to Oklahoma. A 3.5 day 2,100 mile
trip turned into a 7-day 3,000 mile trip, but we are back in

John,

Glad you made it back safely, even though you had to drive a bit out of
your way. Here on the North Coast, we got down to 18 last night! Very
cold temps with the Arctic blast out of Canada. No snow, but cold temps
and low humidity. We hit 33 yesterday. Today around 35-38 is forecasted
But it will start warming back up in the late week.
Take care and have a wonderful Christmas Season.

Thanks to Ben Dangerfield's tip, though I saw it much later than his post,
there's Algeria on 549, definite parallel to Radio Algeria 1 on Delicast web

some might mistakenly call chanting, it's simply the way that the Koran is
read with a musical quality. Suprisingly good, even with 4.0 filter. When
I hear this coming in so well I have to wonder where it's been all this

Thanks to Ben Dangerfield's tip, though I saw it much later than
his post, there's Algeria on 549, definite parallel to Radio
Algeria 1 on Delicast web audio. At 2304 EST / 0404z with a man
doing the Koranic recitation, what some might mistakenly call
chanting, it's simply the way that the Koran is read with a
musical quality. Suprisingly good, even with 4.0 filter. When I
hear this coming in so well I have to wonder where it's been all
this time? A new logging, and MW country #68. I have just a few
more countries to hear before I catch up to Ben (major
 understatement)

I think they may have fired up a new transmitter on 549... I've heard
them before, but never this strong, and their audio is now much more
punchy. Also, I measured their carrier frequency tonight to be
548.9997, and they used to be at 548.9974, according to the mwoffsets
list. Speaking of parallels, try 531 - I'm hearing the same program
there, though much weaker.

[IRCA] TA tonight

2009-12-08 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Well, no Algeria here tonight, but finally got something out of 963 which
identifies it as CRI I think.Could hear a woman talking, followed by
children chanting, then a man talking at 0450UT, and it was all followed a few
seconds later on a Swedish receiver on GlobalTuners, tuned to 963 (good strong
signal). At times the talk could have been perceived as having a Russian
inflection.

I haven't formally logged Finland-963 before, as no SW parallel, no webstream,
no ID on the hour, not enough for a report, but I think I'll settle for this.
Actually, also heard four of the presumably 6 pips on the hour at 0500UT this
time as well.

Other TA's? Not much nowsome audio on 1215 earlier...

When heard a few weeks ago I heard CRI 963 Pori with Chinese lessons for
Russian listeners. The key phrase was Radio Kitaya, the Russian word for
China. Jim Renfrew, Holley NY

[IRCA] TP for 8 Dec from Victoria, BC

2009-12-08 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Had to go to work this morning so didn't get much listening done; seemed a
little better than the last couple of mornings, though still pretty drab.
Northerly conditions are improving elsewhere, Bill Whitacre in D.C. reporting
TP carriers, and Martin Hall in Scotland hearing NHK stations again at 1320UT.

Best signal was VoA-1575 at 1430UT, quite listenable, but the Japanese big guns
weren't at all that good strength.

Oddments were some audio traces on 1539 around 1520UT, which seemed Asian
rather than over the pole, and 738 fading up with mx at 1438UT; hard to read
though, as there were 4 carriers spread over about 4 Hz, all beating with each
other.

best wishes,

Nick

2009-12-08 Thread texas4421
KOA-850 is into southeastern Tennessee like it was a local. If you need
Colorado this is the time to hear it.

Program detail: Call in talk show topic is about AIDS, homosexuals and oral
sex, with all the details, as taught to our children in our schools!
