Even if I don't need that many...they shouldn't be hard to get rid of once they quit selling them!! I not only hate the new Bulbs for the RFI.I can't see bugger all with them!!! Hi Guys: Woke up at 0300 am with no where to go! So I did some more listening on 1520 Khz. WWKB is virtually NON EXISTENT on the frequency this morning. I heard a station playing COUNTRY Music and assumed I was hearing WMLM from St. Louis, MICHIGAN as per my earlier Logging last evening. I was pleasantly surprised when I heard an ID for AM 1520 WKVI Country Favourites WKVI is a DAYTIME ONLY STATION with 1.8 KW and 350 Watts for Critical Hours..so I don't know why they are on the air at 0330 am in the morning I tried to get the live feed for AM 1520 WKVI..but it wouldn't work. I heard 2 Distinct IDs..One at 0327 and another at 0400 AM EDT...so it is them!!! Anyone close to KNOX INDIANA who can comment on this station and their practice of being on overnight??? I only sleep 3-5 hours a night due to sleep apnea..and I've always been able to function on very little sleep even when I was young...without that condition. I have as much fun seeing someone else log something I have found, as I do hearing it myself!!That's why I always report what I hear. I logged 2 New Stations on 1520 Last NightWMLM and WKVI...both Country Stations, all due to WWKB being on REDUCED POWER, as they have been for some time now. If you're up late tonightgive a try for WKVI ...and WMLM for that matter. Hi Guys: After a drought of 24 Days (18 of those due to Holidays)..I have finally logged a New Station!!! Conditions seemed much better tonight at Sunset and I was actually hearing some decent Stuff!! Logged an unusual One on 1490 Khz playing what sounded like a CONTINUOUS LOOP over and over. Gave Frequency, Call and Location and mentioned The best in Country Music. Sounds like this could be a NEW FORMAT CHANGE for this station and they are playing the loop to alert Listeners to this fact... I can`t find anything on the net showing this format changeonly info showing them previously as Talk and Gospel...not sure which was the most recent format though??? Anyone close to Farmville, VIRGINIA that can confirm what is happening here??? Anyways...The ID and Freq and City announcement was very clear for almost 5 minutesso I'm sure it was them!! Hi Guys: Well my Local AM Station, CKSL 1410 London, ONTARIO was off the air last night for some reason??? Not sure why, but I noted them OFF AIR from about 2100 PM EST til about 0300 AM EST. They were intermittent for about the last 1/2 hour leading up to 0300 EST. I was able to log 3 Stations during their absencebut was only able to ID one of them, That station was NEW to both the OVERALL and ULR LOGS!! The other 2 UNIDS were a Classic Country Station and an Oldies Station. Both Formats have SEVERAL Possibilities...but I don't have enough to count them in either case!! Nothing New Logged on any adjacent Frequencies unfortunately!!! Was hoping for something on 1400 Graveyardas that is the ONLY FREQUENCY I have NO LOGGINGS on for the ULTRALIGHTS!!! Hi Guys: Well...I could tell it was gonna be a Good Sunset Skip Session tonight as all the GraveYard Freqs were hopping by 1630 EST!!! The Freqs below 1200 were 2 and 3 deep as the Afternoon progressed, and I knew there were some New Ones prowling under the Big Guns!!! 3 NEW STATIONS were logged for the ULR LOG.1 of those was NEW for the OVERALL LOG..and the other 2 were CALL CHANGES for the OVERALL LOG. The 3 NEW ULR STATIONS were all relatively CLOSE TO ME..but they put me OVER 900 ULR STATIONS HEARD!! The Journey to 900 ULR Stations took 3 YEARS, 1 MONTH and 6 DAYSas I started my ULR LOG on Jan/01/2008, with a DONATED SONY SRF-59, which I received from Gary DeBock just after Christmas . Along the way I have amassed the following totals in my ULR LOG.. 901 Total Stations Logged 848 Domestic Stations Heard 43 Latins Stations Heard 7 European/TA Stations Heard 4 Continents Heard 87 Graveyards Stations Heard 3 Pirate Stations Heard 41 States Heard 6 Provinces heard 17 Countries Heard The Great Majority of these were logged on a SONY SRF-59 and my SONY SRF-T615's Barefoot.with only a few logs relying on Souped up ULRs or External Antennas!! I'm dedicating # 900 to our dear friend and late ULR Comrade John Bryant..for all the Groundwork he laid getting the ULR DX Hobby off the ground!! John would always JokeI wonder if 1,000 Stations is possible on a ULR Receiver??...then he would laugh!!. Well JohnI can't answer that yet...but we now know that 900 is.and if I can hang in there long enoughwe may know if 1,000 IS POSSIBLE??? HI Guys: There appeared to be some Auroral Conditions overnightbut I was not able to ID anything of Note as a result of those Conditions. However...This morning at SUNRISE I did log a NEW STATION .1310 WTIK from Durham, NCin SPANISH with LA MEGA IDs. This is NEW STATION for Both the ULR and OVERALL LOGS...and is my 1400th AM BCB STATION logged overall!! Perhaps this was also AURORA INDUCED??? I'm not sure?? There are several other Spanish Stations on 1310 that use similar IDsWORC Worcester, MASS, and WEMG Camden, NJ. However I checked the Live Webfeeds and was able to match this up to WTIK in Durham!! Hi Guys: Well...I settled in for some Sunset Skip DX tonight about 1630 EST. It had JUST started to Snow!!! When I was finished at about 1800 EST...we had about 6-8 Inches more snow than when I started less than 2 Hours earlier!!! I haven't measured itor shoveled it yet...but it's gotta be at least that deep!! Guess I know what I'll be doing in the morning!! No use doing it now as it's still coming down!! At least I did get something for my troubles as I logged a NEW STATION (GraveYarder) on 1450 from Montreal!! It was in Arabic...and I was aware that there is also an Ethnic Station on 1450 from Cicero, ILLINOIS...which I have logged before. The mention of 1450 AM and a mention of MONTREAL convinced me it was CHOU in Montreal. But.I checked the Live Webfeeds for both Stations and found it was indeed CHOU. Cicero had Arabic as well.but it was an entirely different Program (Talk Show)...whereas CHOU had A Live DJ with Music and Calls from Listeners!! So I am happy with this one..there's not many Canadian GraveYarders left out there to log anymore! Hi Guys: Had a weird one this morning at SUNRISEActually it was pretty much DAYLIGHT here in London, Ontario. 2 Country Music selections played ..I can only find One CW Station on 1200 and that's KYOO in Bolivar, MO...a 1 KW Daytimer...I don't think it's them??? The bearing was pretty much due SOUTH of me. Bolivar is well to the SOUTH WEST..but you never know??? Does anyone know of ANY other Station that plays CW on 1200 Khz??? I can't find anything The only other possibility is it may have been a Standards Station.as Charlie Rich's behind closed doors could be regarded as a Standard I guess??? The other song though sounded CW as well..I doubt a Standards Station would play 2 CW Songs in a row??? Anyways...I am totally STUMPED on this one. Hi Guys: Well..3 People have chimed in with help on my 1200 UNID from this morning at Sunrise..Saul Chernos, Niel Wolfish and Paul Walker Jr. All 3 have pointed me to WNBL Huntington, West Virginia with 22 KW/9 Watts Nights. They have recently moved there from 1470 Khz with Adult Contemporary Formatbut Saul says he has logged them several times playing COUNTRY. I was not aware that WRWB had become WNBL and switched to Adult ContemporaryI thought they were still Religious/Gospel?? The first wave of the storm moved through here overnight and dumped a lot of snow...but I'm not sure where most of it went!!!? The Driving Wind has blown much of it away!! My Neighbour at the end of the Street must have a hell of big pile of Snow piled up in his yard!! We had about 2 Hours of needed Break from the Snow this morning. I was out with the Snowblower for 2 1/2 Hours cleaning everything up. Before I got doneit had started snowing againand as of 1212 EST .it is snowing quite heavily again!! The Big Snow Blob that was centered over Chicago has now moved East and joined up with another Large Blob coming up from the South of Lake Erie!! Hi Guys: When I saw Saul Chernos's Tip that Maine was pounding in early in the afternoon today...I got the SRF-T615 out and did some looking around. I didn't hear anything from MAINEBut I did Log a NEW STATION from NEW HAMPSHIRE, which is just as good!! This Station is NEW for BOTH the ULR and OVERALL LOGS!! Also had a Graveyard RELOG from MASSACHUSETTS. That's about it from EAST for me...but I did have some RELOGS from NORTH CAROLINA and a UNID on 1580 KHZ with SPANISH RELIGION. Any help with this is appreciated. Maybe WLIM Patchogue, NY or WDAB Traveller's Rest, SC??? I checked 1680 as I have been Chasing KRJO from Monroe, LA for a while. I thought I had them the other night at Bedtime...but just couldn't get enough to be sure. Hi Guys: The band was pretty useless tonight at SUNSET and I was almost ready to give up and go for supper when I found something interesting on 1520 Khz. In WWKB, Buffalo's , Null, I was hearing a Station oriented south playing Urban Contemporary/RB Music. Then it appeared to be playing Black Gospel Music. However at times I was hearing BOTH RB and GOSPEL.so it was obviously 2 Stations swapping out...Both from the south. At Times WWKB took them both out, at other times each took a turn at being on top. The RB Station I think may be WARR Warrenton, NC with 5 KW Days with Critical Hours authorization of 1 KW. That would be a RELOG for me... The Black Gospel I think is most likely WINW Canton, OHIO with 1 KW Days..That would be NEW if them!!! No ID heard on the hour and both stations seemed to continue on after 1800 EST This will need more work ...Maybe if I try there later this week at Sunset I can squeeze and ID outta them??? HI Guys: Nothing much doing again tonight @ SUNSET.but I did manage to solve my UNID from Last Night @ 1715 EST Sign-Off! Turns out it was WLLL Lynchburg, VIRGINIA signing off at 1715 EST. I heard them again tonight with the same Male Announcer doing the Sign-Off Announcements!! It's a RELOG for both the OVERALL and ULR LOGSso unneeded. Can anyone confirm this??? The Twins Monuments in St. Mary's turns out to be SCLIMMS MONUMENTS in St. Mary's, PAwhich is about 20 Miles from Emporium!!! And they sell Rock of Ages Monuments!! When that happens, it's not a station testing - it's just automation gone wrong. What's usually going on is that a station is taking a network feed of a football game, and after the game the automation fails to switch the station back to its usual program source, so whatever's on the satellite channel where the game was just keeps playing, sometimes all night until someone comes in the next morning. Unless you can find someone local to the station that's running the wild satellite feed, the odds are pretty low that you'll ever figure out who it was - though at least you've narrowed down who it wasn't. Keep in mind that even the station itself may not know that they were broadcasting this loop overnight! s _ Thanks Scott, for this infoI do recal hearing several of these Satellite Feeds in the past and I did wonder if maybe that was what I had??? However..I was not able to copy all of the text the Male Announcer saidso I wasn't sure if he gave a Callsignor a Radio Feed type of ID. In the past when I have heard these, it seemed like it was a continuous loop with lots of IDs quite frequently. In this case...there was only the one ID heard, and the tones I heard didn't seem to be a continuous loop...more random in nature??? Anywaysanother mystery Station for the log!!! I knew something was up when I heard 700 WTUB Orange-Athol, MASS, blasting in at 1630 EST with 2.5 KW..Taking out WLW Cincinnati That was a Relog.but not often heard!! Almost all of the Old Clear Channel frequencies had other stations under them. Many I was not able to ID including stations on 760, 780, and 1100 Khz. However...I was able to log 3 NEW STATIONS for the ULR Log tonightall from the WEST!! Only one of these was NEW for the OVERALL LOG..and the other 2 were CALL LETTER CHANGES for the RELOGS!! It's been a long time since I logged 3 New Stations at one sitting with the ULTRALIGHT!!! HI Guys: WellEven though I'm on Holidays this weekand getting ready to Retire in 12 more working days.My Body Clock still wakes me up every morning at 5 AM!!! So.if I'm gonna be up that time of day...I may as well do something semi-intelligent...so I've been DXing the Sunrise Skip!! This morning I was camped out on 1470 Khz when something faded up that I knew was gonna be good!! It was the Southern Drawl that caught my attention!! Turns out to be a NEW STATION for both the Overall and ULR LOGS!! Radio Used is...SONY SRF-T615 ULR Barefoot ^^^ ULR LOG TOTALS are now.856 Stations Heard ^ 73.ROB VA3SW Robert S. Ross London, Ontario CANADA * 1470 WBFC Stanton, KENTUCKY Dec/21/10 0700 ESTEE FAIR Faded up over the Pile at 0702 EST. Male DJ with Deep Southern Drawl with Community Date Book. Listed several Community Events with several mentions of Kentucky. Also gave several phone numbers with 859 Area Code (859 is adjacent to 606 which is Stanton's area code). I checked their webpage and they have Community Date Book listed at 0700 am!!). Nulls were East/West...so this seemed to be pretty much Due SOUTH of me..which is where Stanton is!! No Callsign ID on this.but I'm quite confident this is them!! No Other Kentucky Stations on this Frequency. HI Guys: I noticed on WFBC's Website Sked that they had a Replay of the Community Date Book Program at 1600 EST today...so I listened on their website at that time to see if they played the same thing I heard this morning at 7 AM?? Sure enough..the same DJ with the same Southern Drawl read the same events with the same phone numbers I heard this morning!! Obviuosly a Taped Segment. Hi Guys: I did a little Sunset DXing tonight and have a Logging of a Classic Country Station on 1450 Khz. The suspects I can see that would fit the bill are WNBY Newberry, Michigan...this is who I think it is.. WFTR Front Royal, Virginia WREL Lexington, Virginia WCOL in Cornelia, Georgia was disqualified as I checked their Live Feed and it was not them. I believe it may have been WNBY...but of course they don't have a Live Feed, or much of a Webpage I could check. [IRCA] Tecsun PL-606 Arrived Today....................
Hi Guys: Even with the Bitter Cold and Snowy Conditions, the Mailman managed to deliver the Latest Addition to my ULR Radio Stable...the Tecsun PL-606. It took 14 Days from the day my Order was placed to arrival at my door. Pretty fast for the Christmas Mail Rush...Ms. Joyce at Anon-co in HONG KONG is still providing GOOD Customer Service to us Crazy Dx'ers over here half a world away!! Everything arrived in good order and I hope to give it a workout later today at Sunset. This is ULR #25Maybe it's time to Surrender?? HAHHAHHAHA. As if adding this New Radio wasn't bad enough.this past Saturday a friend of mine arrived at my Door with a Bunch of Radio Gear he no longer wanted...and knew that Rob's Home for Wayward Radios would act as an Orphanageand give them a Good Home!! He dropped off a 1970's Classic PANASONIC RF-2200 Portable, with the Matching ANTENNA TUNER!! Also in the stash was a 1970's MARANTZ RF-2220B FM Amp/Tuner and a MARANTZ 6100 Turntable from the same era!! All Manuals, Cables, and Accessories included!! Sorta like Christmas 2 Weeks Early!!! If I ever get done Shoveling Snow here..I hope to find some time to devote to all the Radio Stuff that has showed up here lately!!! I had things thinned out pretty good here for a whilebut things are starting to get out of hand again. I should have got the hint when I dragged home a 45 Pound 5 KW Radio Tube used in a Commercial Radio StationIt's a GE GL-892R ...and it's so heavy it has Metal Handles on the sides so you can carry it!!! That and the Flashing Red Lights from the Top of the old Transmitting Tower of 1570 CHLO St. Thomas, Ontario .that followed me home not long before that!! Bottom line is ...I guess I'm having Fun!!???... Stay warm everybody...even Kirk Allen down in Oklahoma says he's freezing to death!!! [IRCA] ULR DX...No Time for DX.....too busy clearing SNOW!!!!
Hi Guys: Wish I had some DX to reportbut all Free Time in the last 2 days has been spent clearing Snow!!! We have broken all the Records here in London, Ontario over the past 3 Days. We have Broken the 1 Day, 2 Day and 3 Day Accumulation Records with approx 120 cm of snow over 3 days!! The Good news is that they are ONLY calling for about 20 cms MORE overnight!!! So that should put us at 140 cms or so by tomorrow morning!! We aren't completely shut down here in Londonbut it's a Mess out there. I got to work and back today ...only because I'm Crazier than the rest of the Drivers!! My Snowblower is groaning..and the Bad News is that the snow is now getting much heavier due to moisture levels..and the SnowBlower can't even throw it!! (Nowhere to throw it anyways!! HAHAHAHAA).Our Average Snowfall for December is 51 cms..so we've already almost tripled the whole months average in 3 Days!! My back deck now has about 4 Feet of Snow on it!!! I won't be having a BBQ for a few days!! Other than that..we've having a Ball up here in OntarioWelcome to CANADA!!! Land of the Free.and home of the Snowmen!! Since yesterday morning we have had 20-30 cms of snow depending on where you are.with another 40-60 cms expected by tomorrow!!! With the Blowing Winds...the Drifts are pretty high!! For those not familiar with cms...when I went out to the shed to get the SnowBlower.the Snow was OVER my Knees all the way to the shed!! If we indeed do get the additional 40-60 cms.it will be up to my waste easily!!! h boy...welcome to Canada in the Winter!! Luckily today is my day off...and I didn't have to dig out for work!! I went out at 7 am and Snowblowed for 2 Hours.when I was done...you couldn't tell where I'd already cleaned!! ..so I just gave up and came back in the house!! I'll have to go out again tonight and see what I can accomplish..hopefully it will slow down by then!! The Great Lakes are a lot warmer this Year.and the Cold Arctic Arm passing over Lake Huron.is picking up lots of moisture...and depositing it all in my Laneway right now!! However all is not lost!!! Last night at Bed Time I managed to hear another NEW STATION for the ULR LOG!!! It is a RELOG for the OVERALL LOG however... Hi Guys: Had a bit of time to try some Sunset Skip tonight...and managed one New Station for the ULR LOG. It is a RELOG for the OVERALL Log however, but not heard for MANY YEARS!!. The only other Logging of Note was 690 WOKV Jacksonville, FLORIDAwhich was Blasting in about 1730 EST tonight!! It too is a RELOG for BOTH Logs. [IRCA] ULR DX.........1 NEW STATION and Call Change last night................
HI Guys: My wife is off to Michigan to take part in the US Thanksgiving Festivities...and I am stuck at home going to work WAH! Anyways...I took the free time last night to DX for about 3 Hours before hitting the hay. Conditions to the WEST were GREAT..especially the NORTH WEST. One New Station for both the ULR and OVERALL LOGS was heard (From a Rather Tough STATE...North Dakota)...and I logged a CALL CHANGE for both logs as well. One New station for 3 hours of DXing may not sound all that spectacular...but with the tally now at 848 ULR Stations LoggedEach and Every New One is a Cause for Celebration!! I thought the other Log was NEW as well...til I checked and realized it was just a Call Change. I figured 2 New Ones was just too good to be true!!
