 Hello listers.

Today a man told me he had problems with installing jaws 7.0 and the video
intercept manager for his son. With the manager installed, after restart
Windows is not loading. He used safe mode to remove the manager and the
computer works well but without jaws. I heard somewhere that the video
 cart
may cause this problem. Is this truth? His video cart is asus eax1650pro
256mb. If you have other ideas please share them with me.

 Thanks in advance
 Negoslav

ok to have you set your speed for jaws go into the jaws 7 to global for the

Now to adjust the speed of your typing you might want to adjust your

Go into the spell check in OE,with alt t,then tab until you get to the

You can use a hot key for both at the same time.
This is what I did with mine,for jaws 7 I used control,alt,7 .
Then for 8 version I used control,alt 8.
This way if I happen to need one or the other just have to unload one
bring up the other.

Have you a hot key to bring up JAWS8? Remove the JAWS7.1 installer, but
 think for yourself! grin
If JAWS8 is unloaded, and doesn't start automatically, you can bring it up

to the start menu it doesn't read the things in the start menu if there is any.
It also doesn't read things like when I hit the key stroke windows m to bring
up the desk top and stuff it doesn't say that or anything like that. In short I
need to know how to configure jaws 7.1 to work like jaws 7.0 does on the pc
that I am using now it is working fine but this pc is running windows xp. The
jaws 7.1 version on the other pc that is running windows 2000 has been
authenticated so I don't think it is running in demo moad. I would like Step by
Step instructions please if possible. It also doesn't read any e male unless
you use the mouse to read it. then it will read it in other words unless you
swipe the e male message with the mouse then it will read it. I hope that I am
making my self clear and that you all are getting what I am trying to say. Many
thanks for reading and I hope that some one can help me out with this. Well
Many thanks for any help that any one can give me with this. from Mich Verrier

Subject: [JAWS-Users] the latest JAWS update?

 hi all,

I had unsubscribed from this list a while ago before a vacation and I've
just come back. I saw an announcement for an update to JAWS 8, and I
 wanted
to know how people like it. I've had so many problems with JAWS 8, as I
wrote about a few months ago, and I'm a little concerned about updating.
 on
the other hand, if it fixes the things that were causing problems, that
would be great. I didn't see much about fixing problems with IE6 in the
list of new things in this update. What do you all think of the update?

By the way, I have resubscribed two days ago but am not receiving any mail
yet, so I hope this does get through. it doesn't seem possible this list
hasn't had any mail in two days and right after an update.

thanks for any info on the update!

 Sherry

the delete key. In other words, instead of going right on to the next
message and saying who it's from it won't say anything automatically. If
 I
arrow up or hit insert 2 I can make it read, but it won't automatically
 say
who the next message is from, and I never had trouble with this until
 maybe
a couple days ago. I've done one repair and it seemed to work a little
while, but now it's acting up again. Hope someone has suggestions.
 Thanks.

 can
assign sounds to various events on your system. So I'm not completely

when I am trying to find is the place where it stores people who I have sent
email to in the past, not just the sent messages but the list of all the
people I've contacted. It has them somewhere because in the to field of any
new message if I start typing the first name of someone it brings up their
address but I don't know where it's getting that from., That's what I am
looking for but I think that Boop or someone said you can't do that in
Outlook 2003 which is what this is so it may not be possible.

  Can you help her thanks?

USE VERBOSITY LIST TO CHANGE THIS ON THE FLY. Again, when demonstrating,
only do a few lines to let them hear that it is on again or off again.

POINT IS, you can set this for any program individually by using JAWS

 Hi All,

I'm still trying to set up JAWS 7.0 to my liking and JFW is still
announcing the percentage of downloaded mail when I do a Control-M in
Outlook Express and progress bar announcement updates is set at off in
outlook express 5-6.jcf - JAWS Configuration Manager. I have cable,
so it's rather annoying and JFW 6.2 didn't announce the progress with
announcements set at 5 second intervals. I tried setting them at 5
second intervals in 7.0, but it didn't help. JAWS often announces 100
% twice just to be sure I might not have gotten it the first time.

I looked at the Technical Service Bulletins for OE at the FS site
and there weren't any related to the problem.

I have XP Home with SP2 and it's OE 6 and IE6. I haven't tried
changing the setting in the default.jcf - JAWS Configuration Manager
since there might be a program where I might want announcements. Has
anyone experienced a similar problem or am I missing something here?

Thanks,

 Margaret

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Progress Bar Announcements in J 7.0 OE

Thanks,

 Margaret

hello all. I am looking for a good ante virus program that is jaws user
friendly. I use jaws 7.0 and I would prefer it not to be Norton and I would
also like it to be free. Any suggestions? I am using kasperskie antie virus
witch a sighted friend of mine installed needless to say it doesn't seem to be
that jaws user friendly. I am also wondering weather any one elts has used
this program? and if so how did they find it? well take care all and I hope to
hear back from the list. I did look on the jfw lite page and found AVG and I am
wondering how good that program is? many thanks. from Mich Verrier.

This is an absolute violation of the guide lines and as such I have
reluctantly taken action in this matter. We have all been beginners at
 one
time or another ourselves. I sure didn't hit the ground running back in
1989 when I first touched a computer, and believe me folks I went to a
computer school that had an extremely oppressive environment where the
instructors would rather yell at a student then help them out with a
problem. I created this list on the premise that anybody could ask any
question relating to the topic of this list without having to be afraid of
what another list member would say. Yes of course the hope is that all
 will
gain the confidence to try things on their own and when they get stuck the
list will be here to help out. The thing is there are over 200 members on
here and everybody is at a different skill level than everybody else. My
wife was on another list and she asked a question on there only to receive
an abusive answer from another list member, well I couldn't do anything
about that list but I sure can do something here. So this group will
continue to run the way it has where everybody can feel safe to ask a
question without worrying about reprisal, because I believe it is worth
 doing.

 Hi John,

If you are having a hard time finding things like the control panel, than that
means that you haven't configured your XP computer to look like Windows 98.

I'm not sure if you knew this was an option or not, but for a while, Freedom
Scientific was recommending everyone using Jaws switched their XP environment,
such as the display, appearance and theme to Windows 98 or standard.

Even the files were supposed to be set to Windows Classic.

If you need help in switching the format, just let us know and we can give you
step by step instructions on how to accomplish this.

On the other hand, you can also go to the JFW Lite website, under the helpful
hints page, there is a file there on how to configure your computer to work
with Jaws on an XP machine.

I'm not sure if David has the same type of setting instructions on his tips
and tricks page, so he'll have to let you know about that.

While the text file on the JFW Lite site is a bit outdated, as I believe
Freedom Scientific no longer recommends everyone switch to the 98 look, you can
still use it's display settings to create your own 98 environment.

 Victor

 John,

The control panel should be in your start menu. It might be under settings,
but should be listed there someplace.
It may also be listed in the My Computer.
Once you get to the control panel, you will probably want to tab to, switch to
classic view and press your spacebar.

 Victor

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Re: Problem in Outlook Express

 Hi May,

I have experienced your problem before, and I tried the following:

First I tried to restart my system.

If that doesn't work, try running an anti-spyware program like No Ad-Aware, or
Ad-Aware, or Spybot, or some other program, when it's done, delete all items it
finds, then restart your system.

At that point, try to load Outlook Express. If it still doesn't work, run an
anti-virus program like Norton, or AVG. When that's done, if it finds a
problem, either try a repair of the affected file, or delete it completely from
your folder.

Please keep track of where the file is, in other words, it's location on your
hard drive.

I say this because sometimes the anti-virus program may not be able to delete
the file because it is being used, so in that case, the program will either
leave it alone, at which point you have to go in and delete the file manually
after you've shut all running processes down, then delete the file, or the
anti-virus program will quarantine it.

If that's the case, you'll have to go into your quarantined items folder and
delete it there.

Once that's done, try restarting your system again.

If Outlook Express still doesn't start up or load correctly, you'll have to
call Microsoft tech support and let them know that you can't start Windows in
safe mode to do a proper diagnoses of the system because Windows won't load up
Jaws while in safe mode.

At that point, Microsoft Tech support should give you a free tech support
ticket for free, as this should be something that you should be able to handle
if you are sighted, but since you aren't, then go ahead and pull the blind
routine on them.

They won't have any other choice but to honour your ticket.

Having said that, though, if you follow the steps I outlined above, with the
reboot, then the anti-spyware and anti-virus software, it should clear up your
system.

Hope this helps, and if it doesn't, I would do a Google search on the problem,
and see what you pull from that search.

 Victor

 to
clean out my registry, and things did get messed up, would a system
 restore
 fix the problem? Just curious.

  Hi,

You can read the list of problems and select the ones you want fixed.
  Then
tab to fix selected problems, or you can tab to the select all
  problems
  and
space on that, then tab to fix selected problems and space on that. I
always select all problems and let it fix them all. It seems always

  find
  plenty of them.

I apologize if you have already figured all this out. It took me a
