[JAWS-Users] getting rid of the top and boddem of windo message in OE Using Jaws 7.0

2007-05-21 Thread Mich
Hi all. I asked this question earlier today on some of these lists. I did get a
ancer but there is one problem. The problem is that I can't seem to do all of
the steps that are listed in the instructions to tern off the top of window and
bottom of window and alert thing in jaws. The reason for this is because it is
talking about jaws 8.0 and not 7.0 witch is the one that I have. I can't seem
to do the following step in the instructions 6. Locate the Default.jcf file. I
go and do that 8. Look for the line containing:
[options] but I can't find the word. Can some one please help me out? What is
happening is that I want to get rid of that stupid ding sound when you get to
the top or bottom of a window or in OE. By doing this I am hoping to stop it
saying top of window and bottom of window when I am some times arrowing through
the messages in OE Jaws will say top of window and bottom of window and then
that is it it won't say anything elts there for forcing me to un load jaws and
then re load jaws. Some times when this happens and I re load jaws all that
jaws will do after this is just make that stupid ding sound and that is it. I
find this personally quite annoying. Many thanks for any help that any one can
help me with. from Mich Verrier from New Liskeard Ontario Canada.

[JAWS-Users] Jaws 7.0 question

2007-05-14 Thread Mich
hi all. I have a question about jaws 7.0. My question is how do you get jaws to
speak faster? what is happening is when I am reading messages it is speaking
quite fast but when ever I press any other key like message deleted it speaks
that quite slow and it also is slow when I am typing this as well. What I want
to do is have the same rate of speech all across the board. I am just wondering
what I can do to fix this? Also I would like to know Right now I have my OE Set
to do the spell check when I press send. I would rather have it do the spell
check when I hit the f 7 key. How do I do this? Many thanks and Please get back
to me ASAP. From Mich Verrier from New Liskeard Ontario Canada.

 Hi Mich,
Where did you get the e-mail?
Is it from someone you trust?
You want to be careful about clicking links in e-mail messages, they may
take you somewhere that you don't want to go.
Also, it could be that the link was typed incorrectly, and so it won't
 work.
 Just some ideas!

[JAWS-Users] Strainge Jaws Ishu

2007-05-08 Thread Mich
Hi all. I am using jaws 7.0 and Windows xp. I have been noticing some strange
things over the last few days with jaws. The first few have been happening for
quite a wile now and the last one just started happening a few days back. What
happens is some times when I am in OE and am arrowing down through the message
Jaws won't read the message. Then some times it will just stop entirely for no
reason. Be for this happens though I hear a ping sound. Another thing that
has been happening is that when I am going through in OE Jaws will say top of
window and bottom of window and not read the messages in-between I know when
it does this when i press enter on a message then deleat and then it will oapin
another message and it will say that that message is from the above person when
it wasn't and it is a new message all together. Then when I go to re start
jaws be for closing jaws there will be a short little gap when it is saying
between when it says un loading jaws in-between saying that there is a short
gap and then I say yes. After re loading jaws it will come back up but then
everything that I hit every key will make a pingging sound. I will then re
start the pc. Some time though after re starting the PC It will again exhibit
the above symptoms. It some times will happen 3 or 4 times with the top of
window and boddem of window stuff in OE and the pingging sounds. When it does
the Pingging sounds though all jaws will say is un red and some times it woant
even do that it will just make a pingging sound. Needless to say it has been
becoming quite annoying. Any Suggestions on what I might do about this? Other
then all this jaws is working quite fine. I have how ever been thinking of
doing a repair on jaws to see weather that fix's things. I look forward to your
feedback. from Mich Verrier from New Liskeard Ontario Canada.

[JAWS-Users] Re: Yahoo

2007-05-01 Thread Mich
hey patty. here's my 2 sense on the yahoo messenger issue. I did upgrade to
yahoo messenger 8.1 using jaws 7.0 and found that it didn't work as good as
yahoo 7.5 since it didn't read your contacts name or messages that you were
sending or receiving so in short stick with yahoo messenger 7.5 from Mich

[JAWS-Users] I Need to know how to configure Jaws 7.1

2007-04-29 Thread Mich
Hello all. I have a spare pc and it has the following specks on it.
AMD 2200 With a Gig of Ram and Windows 2000 and Jaws 7.1 What I need to know
is. How to make jaws work. It works but it doesn't read anything like when I go
to the start menu it doesn't read the things in the start menu if there is any.
It also doesn't read things like when I hit the key stroke windows m to bring
up the desk top and stuff it doesn't say that or anything like that. In short I
need to know how to configure jaws 7.1 to work like jaws 7.0 does on the pc
that I am using now it is working fine but this pc is running windows xp. The
jaws 7.1 version on the other pc that is running windows 2000 has been
authenticated so I don't think it is running in demo moad. I would like Step by
Step instructions please if possible. It also doesn't read any e male unless
you use the mouse to read it. then it will read it in other words unless you
swipe the e male message with the mouse then it will read it. I hope that I am
making my self clear and that you all are getting what I am trying to say. Many
thanks for reading and I hope that some one can help me out with this. Well

edit on the menu bar, and it says that almost all of those functions are
unavailable. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

  Hi Lisa:
I will try and answer your questions.
  you said:
I have a couple of questions about the virus vault in AVG. If there is
anything
in the virus vault that AVG. has caught, does that mean that any and all
traces of
the viruses are gone from the computer?
a: yes once AVG either places it on its vault or deletes it, it pretty much
took care of the problem.
Also should the virus vault be emptied?
a: acording to technical support from the grisoft company yes it is
recommended a least once or twice a month.
and the way you do this is open your AVG control center then right click on
the virus vault or use your JFW cursor then do a right mouse button click
assuming you got the free AVG.
in my opinion one of the big differences between the free AVG and paid one is
its layout seems a bit easier on the paid one besides that on the paid one you
do get 24/7 tech support.
and if so, do the viruses completely disappear from the hard drive, or do
they just
  go to the recycle Ben?
a: they don't go to the recycle bin.

  Lisa,

I don't advise deleting the Windows temp files, but they are mainly located
in the, c:\windows\system32 folder. Plus there may be others scattered around
in various applications. But again, unless you know what you are deleting, I
don't advise it.
The Internet temp files are located in, c:\documents and settings\(your
profile name)\local settings\temporary Internet files. This is where your temp
files and cookies are stored. Most of these files provide faster loading of
visited web pages. I don't see that it affects the performance of your PC by
removing them.

Lisa,
Sorry it has taken me a couple of days to get back to you.
The, %temp% command will delete the temp files in the root directory. It
doesn't remove the Windows temp files or the Internet temp files.
As for the cookies, that is up to you whether you want to delete them or
not. Deleting them won't do anything to enhance the performance of your PC.

  Lisa,
You can perform 3 of the tasks mentioned.
  1. Check Disk
Go to run and type in,
chkdsk /f (drive letter): and press enter. Note the colon after the
drive letter. Unlike running a check disk on your C drive, you won't need to
reboot for this to perform.

  2. Scan Disk
Per form the scan disk just as you would on the C drive, but of course
highlighting the drive you want to scan as opposed to the C drive. Then just
follow the instructions as you would for the C drive. Again, you won't have to
reboot for this to run.

  3. Defrag
Perform as you would for the C drive but again, highlight the drive you
want to defrag.

One more step that I didn't include in those instructions is cleaning up
the temp files.
This should be performed on the C drive.
Close all applications with the exception of Jaws.
Go to run and type in: %temp% and press enter. Note the percent sign
before and after temp.
Press enter. This will bring up a list of temp files that you can
delete.
Do a control A to select all.
Now do a shift delete and say yes

hello all. I am having a problem with IE 6. When I go to some web pages and
press enter on a link I will hear a noise and it isn't the clicking noise that
I would hear. this noise is a thumping noise and then it won't take me to the
link it will just make that noise and do nothing. I have to go to where it says
open link in new window for it to do anything. I am just wondering what might
be going on and why this might be happening? I am also wondering what I can do
to stop this? I am finding it quite annoying. I am also using Jaws 7.0 and

It sounds like you may have a pop up blocker installed, like Google. One way
to get by some blockers like that is to hit shift enter or control enter, but I
forget which it is. It's one of those.

I once had the Google tool bar thingie on here before, and it was a pain. so
I went to add/remove programs and got rid of that sucker.

I'm sure someone else could explain this in greater detail, but that's my
guess, for what it's worth. HTH.

  On Behalf Of Mich

I am also using Jaws 7.0 and
Windows XP Home. many thanks for all your help. from Mich Verrier from New
Liskeard Ontario Canada.

 Short Description:

How to permanently turn off the Top and Bottom Edge Alert

 Problem:

When you are in a list view or in an application, your computer plays a
sound when you reach the top or bottom of the list view or document. For
 example,
in Notepad, if the cursor is positioned at the top of the file and you
 press
the UP ARROW key, your computer plays a sound to notify you that you are
 at
the top of the file and cannot move up any further.

In the JAWS Verbosity settings, there is a setting for Top and Bottom Edge
Alert, which is on by default. You can turn this setting off, and you will
 no
longer hear the sounds to notify you if you are already at the top or
 bottom
of the file or list view. However, there are some other areas of Windows
 where
you will still hear the Top and Bottom Edge alerts. These alerts may be
undesired or interfere with activities such as recording. If you want to
 disable
all top and bottom edge alerts, it can be done by modifying the
 Default.jcf
 file.

 Solution:

To permanently turn off Top and Bottom Edge Alerts, do the following:
 list of 8 items
 1. Open the Start menu and choose Programs or All Programs, JAWS 7.10,
 Explore JAWS, Explore Shared Settings.
 2. Locate the Default.jcf file
 3. Press the RIGHT CONTEXT MENU key, navigate to the Open With choice, and
 select Notepad.
 4. Press CTRL+F to open the Find dialog, type TopAndBottom and then
 press
 ENTER.
 5. Press ESC to close the Find dialog box. The cursor will be on the line
 of
text that reads TopAndBottom Edge Alert=1.
 6. Delete the value of 1, and replace it with the number 0. The line
 should
 now read as TopAndBottom Edge=0.
 7. Save the file and exit Notepad.
 8. Restart JAWS for the change to take effect.

I made this change, no clunking sounds, in lists, or top and bottom,
 documents.

Hi David,

Although your instructions for putting Jaws to sleep are bang on, I don't
think you've addressed Mich's problem outright.

The fact is, Mich, you'll have to find out the settings for the game
you're playing, and see if you can disable the unload Jaws command from
the settings, if that is even available.

The fact is, although you can put Jaws to sleep when you load the game,
the game will still automatically unload Jaws.

The only way I can see around this issue is if you are the one unloading
Jaws yourself instead of the game.

On the other hand, if the game is made with the blind in mind, then there
should be a setting you can configure that will allow you to disable that
feature.

Mind you, I said there should be a way to disable that feature. That does
not, I repeat, that does not mean that you'll be able to do that. If you
aren't able to do that on your own, I suggest you send off an e-mail to
the creators of the game to see if they have any solutions.

Victor

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Re: ACB Radio On Desktop

 Hi Mich,

If you want to use Winamp, follow the below instructions.

 1. Open the Winamp program.

 2. ctrl-tab to the playlist window. If it isn't already open, use the
keystroke of alt-E to open it, then ctrl-tab over to it.

 3. Chances are whatever you had played with Winamp before the last time
 you
shut it down is still in there, so press ctrl-A to select everything in
 the
current window, then press the delete key.

Your window should now be empty.

 4. press the keystroke of ctrl-L to open up a URL and paste the address
 you
posted to the list in there.

Make sure that the URL ends with MP3 or M3U, otherwise you may get an
 error.
If on the other hand it doesn't, then go ahead and paste the URL in there
 anyway and see what happens.

 5. Once it starts playing, pause the playback with the spacebar, then make
sure you are still in the playlist window. If you are, then save the
playlist by doing a ctrl-S and typing in the playlist name in the
 proceeding
dialog box, such as ACB Radio Direct or something like that.

 6. Shift-tab to the previous window in the tab order, and indicate where
 you
want to save the file. My advice is to hit the backspace key until you
 stop
hearing clicking noises. This will take you directly to the desktop, at
which point you can tab over to the o.k. button and press enter. This
should now create an icon on your desktop with the same file name as the
 playlist.

You can do it this way, or you can save it in another folder in your My
Documents folder, then create a shortcut to the desktop. This is what you
should do if you intend to change the name of the shortcut you placed on
your desktop, otherwise you'll get the error that you shouldn't modify the
extension of a file and that sort of stuff.

Anyway, let me know if you have any other questions.

 Victor

thought I would re post it. what is happening is that some times when I am in
OE jaws will loose focus and say top of window and boddem of window when I am
arrowing through messages. after un loading and then re loading jaws it seems
to be fine. I am using jaws 7.0 and windows xp. this will some times happen a

have found that after I press alt m to get the messages from the server jaws
will say somethinglike the requested tasks were completed successfully progress
bar 0 percent hide button to activate press space bar. then when I press
space bar it go's right back in my in box. is there a way to download the
messages from the server using control m or what ever it is and then have
jaws go right in to the in box with out bringing up that message every time?

Do you really mean that you have to open Windows Explorer? You said FTP
Explorer.

If so, when you have the program selected in Windows Explorer, press
ALT+F; then press the letter n; then arrow to Desktop (create shortcut)
and press ENTER. This will place a shortcut on the desktop to that
program. You may want to edit the shortcut--sometimes, they will say
Shortcut to program name and you might want to change this to
something more meaningful. If so, select the desktop entry and press F2 to
edit the wording.

 Carliss,

If I understand you correctly, the search you are referring to is a search within the program
looking to see if any of your contacts are online and then updating the status on all of them such as
Offline, Busy or Away from keyboard. It's just trying to locate the
people in your lists!

Is that what you are referring to?

If any one knows what I can do to fix this problem that would be grate. PS I
want to bern some mp3's on to a cd and have them play back in my dvd player
that I have. I tryed to bern a mp3 cd and it didn't play on my dvd player.
what would I select to do this? audio cd? Many Thanks. from Mich who wants to
just un install Nero sweet and instead install Nearo 6 or 7.

7.0 and so I canceled it and it said that IE 7 was not installed.

What I would like to know is how do I make sure I know what I am
installing? I mien isn't there a way to set your updates so that they
wont download until you have a chance to look at them first? in short
I only want to download serten things and not everything. right now
all jaws says is that updates are ready for your computer click hear
to download and install these updates but it isn't telling me what
they are. Many thanks for any help with resolving this problem. from
Mich Verrier from New Liskeard Ontario Canada.

 Mitch,
Here are the steps to make your hotkey:
 1. use the windows key + m to get you to the desktop
 2. press the letter j to get you to the Jaws icon
 3. press the application key. It is the 3rd key to the right of your
spacebar.
 4. arrow up 1 time or press the letter r to go to the properties and press
enter.
 5. Tab until you hear the words short cut
 6. just press the letter j. The alt and control are automatically in place
for you. You may want to tab away and then shift tab to make sure the letter
stays there.
 7. Tab to the ok and press the enter key.

This should set up that hotkey for Jaws. You can use these steps for other
shortcuts, just use different letters or numbers. Hope this helps.

Is it as user friendly as MSN messenger?

of these scripts from the jfw lite programs page. My last and final
question is where do I install these scripts? right now I have them both
in the jaws.enu folder I would also like to know how to set up the
conversion thing in goldwave for batch processing because right now all
jaws says is convert files to this format and it doesn't read the format
it just says check box not checked. I think I might be missing the

Actually there is a program that will do that but faster. Hear is a link.
 http://www.jfwlite.com/dirlist.zip
r Okay, here's how to get what I think you want (a list of all the
 files in
 your My Documents folder):

 1. Open Start Menu.
 2. Press P to open the Programs submenu.
 3. Select the Accessories submenu and press RIGHT ARROW.
 4. Locate Command Prompt and press ENTER.
 5. At the Command Prompt, type cd my documents The quotation marks
 are
 required.
 6. Type dir /b /on /s C:\MyFiles.txt
 7. Type exit to close the Command Prompt.

This will create a file named MyFiles.txt in the root of your
 C-drive. If
you want to have the list placed in the My Documents folder, don't
 include
the C:\ when you type the dir command.
