[JAWS-Users] IE versus Firefox
Hi All, When I am using IE type in a URL, I only have to type, www.jaws-users.com, but, when I am running Firefox, I have to type, http://www.jaws-users.com. [JAWS-Users] Focus issue/problem
Hi listers, I'm using a laptop with Vista and Jaws 12, the initial release. I've recently encountered a problem that may not be a focus issue at all, but I don't know what else to call it. When I route the PC cursor to the Jaws cursor and do a left mouse click, I get tossed out of my location and put, usually, back on the desk top. So, I have no way to do the left mouse click which is a partifcular problem because I need to pay my property taxes, and the site has some controls that don't respond to regular Jaws commands. I'm guessing that I changed something to cause this, but I sure don't know what that would be. One other piece of info is that when I'm in my windows mail inbox, the jaws and page down keys used to tell me how many messages were in the list. Now Jaws just says ind... Any ideas? In both browsers I use a shortcut. Just type in the jaws-users portion of the address (without the quotes) and hit Control + Enter. This will prefix the necessary http://www.; and append the .com portions of the address. This however, only works with ,.com addresses. *Don Marang* Vinux Software Development Coordinator - vinuxproject.org http://www.vinuxproject.org/ There is just so much stuff in the world that, to me, is devoid of any real substance, value, and content that I just try to make sure that I am working on things that matter. -- Dean Kamen On 7/10/2011 7:02 AM, Mike Barbara In Arcadia wrote: Hi All, When I am using IE type in a URL, I only have to type, www.jaws-users.com, but, when I am running Firefox, I have to type, http://www.jaws-users.com. Hi Don, Thank you very much for this very helpful information. I figured out what I was doing wrong. I was pressing,Control + O, for webpages, instead of, Control + L. For those who might not know what I am talking about. In Internett Explorer when you want to open a new webpage you invoke the Control + o, keystroke, then type in the URL where you want to go press enter. In Firefox you invoke the, Control + L, keystroke, then type in the URL you want press enter. Invoking the Control + O, keystroke in Firefox, is the keystroke for opening specific files. [JAWS-Users] Focus issue/problem with GoldWave
Is there a way to prevent Jaws v12 from loosing focus when navigating out a loaded file in GoldWave? What happens is if I alt tab away from the file to check email and then return to the GoldWave file, GoldWave shows the control panel and not back to the open file. This is troublesome because I can no longer use arrow keys to move through the file. I have to close and reopen the file and use arrow keys to locate where I left off. that is only an apparent problem, because you altered the cursors in mid-quest. It is confusing, like many other things to do with JAWS settings; but the way to resolve it is to set and forget the cursors so that JAWS Cursor WILL NOT FOLOW the PC Cursor, and leave well enough alone until and unless by changing you know what you are doing. Re: [JAWS-Users] Focus issue/problem
So as to attempt to get a better understanding of such matter, you might want to look into the JAWSKey+r dialogue of types of cursor restriction settings. JAWS works so well in most programs that hardly any alterations are needed for normal oparations; at least I believe so. - Original Message - From: Shari shariw...@sbcglobal.net To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Sunday, July 10, 2011 10:10 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Focus issue/problem Yes, I never intentionally made the change, although obviously I did make it. It is confusing, like many other things to do with JAWS settings; but the way to resolve it is to set and forget the cursors so that JAWS Cursor WILL NOT FOLOW the PC Cursor, and leave well enough alone until and unless by changing you know what you are doing. (It can happen accidentally, and is very off-putting. That's how I know about it.) - Original Message - From: Shari shariw...@sbcglobal.net To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Sunday, July 10, 2011 8:38 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Focus issue/problem Thank you, Flor, You solved the left mouse click problem. I then tried to pay the tax bilkl through FF, and it worked perfectly. Any ideas? No, my pc is brand new, or was, having this hassle since the first moment I received it and experienced the symptom. That's why I definitely don't want to defrag. I have played around with Keyboard Accessibility Options in the control panel haven't been able to duplicate the problem. I had this same issue several months ago but, it had to do with using an adaptor to make a USB keyboard work on a PS2 computer. I know I'm not being much help but, these weird occurrences like the both of yours intrigue me. Take care. My delay only occurs with jaws, not via Kurzweil. It might be worth trying one or both of these two free screen readers to see whether you experience the same key echo delay problem with them as you do with JAWS. This way, you can determine whether the key echo delay is a JAWS problem only, or a more general hardware problem. They sound very useful for speeding up my computer. However, what I am particularly referring to, is the time delay between pressing a letter key and hearing JAWS echo it. Sometimes, JAWS seems to not even know that I have pressed a key. I've cleaned my keyboard, with the compressed air and got a lot of dog hair out of it. May be it's just wearing out? I had thought that this was just a Jaws problem, but now, I'm not so sure. Many thanks for any thoughts on this matter! Just go to desk top, myComputer, hit enter. Now on the local drive hit application key and chose properties... Then do a control + tab and hit enter. Tab to fix drive and check. Then ok your way out. When you reboot it will do that job. after that is done. Run defrag on the system, and disk clean up. You can find that in accessories, system tools, disk clean up. If you have a registry cleaner run it also. Now your all clean. Do a insert + f11, and see just what all is running. For some you may have to go into control panel, task bar and startup menu. Just un check hide icons and they will show all. Stop all that don't need to run and then shut computer off and once off restart it. That will purge the memory and come up clean. Where a reboot will still keep junk around. At 03:33 PM 7/7/2011, you wrote: Hi folks, I'm using Jaws 11 on a laptop and desktop both using Windows XP.
