[JAWS-Users] IE versus Firefox

Hi All,

When I am using IE type in a URL, I only have to type, www.jaws-users.com,
but, when I am running Firefox, I have to type, http://www.jaws-users.com.
Can anyone tell me if there is something I can check or uncheck in Firefox
that will put in the http:// for me automatically like IE does? All advice
will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much, take care.

In both browsers I use a shortcut. Just type in the jaws-users

This will prefix the necessary http://www.; and append the .com

[JAWS-Users] Focus issue/problem with GoldWave

2011-07-10 Thread lmorris1953
Is there a way to prevent Jaws v12 from loosing focus when navigating out a
loaded file in GoldWave? What happens is if I alt tab away from the file to
check email and then return to the GoldWave file, GoldWave shows the control
panel and not back to the open file. This is troublesome because I can no
longer use arrow keys to move through the file. I have to close and reopen
the file and use arrow keys to locate where I left off.

that is only an apparent problem, because you altered the cursors in
mid-quest. It is confusing, like many other things to do with JAWS
settings; but the way to resolve it is to set and forget the cursors so
that JAWS Cursor WILL NOT FOLOW the PC Cursor, and leave well enough
alone until and unless by changing you know what you are doing. (It can
happen accidentally, and is very off-putting. That's how I know about
it.)

that is only an apparent problem, because you altered the cursors in
mid-quest. It is confusing, like many other things to do with JAWS
settings; but the way to resolve it is to set and forget the cursors so
that JAWS Cursor WILL NOT FOLOW the PC Cursor, and leave well enough alone
until and unless by changing you know what you are doing. (It can happen
accidentally, and is very off-putting. That's how I know about it.)

You solved the left mouse click problem. Here's a curious hing though. I
had both IE and Firefox open. For no particular reason, I went to IE to
try to pay the tax bill. I followed your suggestion, but IE threw me into
Firefox. I then tried to pay the tax bilkl through FF, and it worked

You may have set the JAWS Cursor to follow the PC cursor. To change
that, so that you get the default, JAWS Cursor not to follow, pres
ctrl+insert+NumpadMinus twice quickly. press this again if it is not
toggled the first time. .

Hi listers,

I'm using a laptop with Vista and Jaws 12, the initial release. I've
recently encountered a problem that may not be a focus issue at all,
but I don't know what else to call it. When I route the PC cursor to
the Jaws cursor and do a left mouse click, I get tossed out of my
location and put, usually, back on the desk top. So, I have no way to
do the left mouse click which is a partifcular problem because I need
to pay my property taxes, and the site has some controls that don't
respond to regular Jaws commands. I'm guessing that I changed something
to cause this, but I sure don't know what that would be.

One other piece of info is that when I'm in my windows mail inbox, the
jaws and page down keys used to tell me how many messages were in the
list. Now Jaws just says ind...

Any ideas?

Thank you,

This will prefix the necessary http://www.; and append the .com

So as to attempt to get a better understanding of such matter, you might
want to look into the JAWSKey+r dialogue of types of cursor restriction
settings. JAWS works so well in most programs that hardly any
alterations are needed for normal oparations; at least I believe so.

Were your computers working fine then all of sudden the computer
started
reacting really slow in responding to the keyboard commands? I have
played
around with Keyboard Accessibility Options in the control panel
haven't

on a
PS2 computer. I know I'm not being much help but, these weird
occurrences
like the both of yours intrigue me. Take care.

  Dear Listers,

I tend to differ with the suggestions made, although I unfortunately
don't have a solution, but I'm experiencing the same annoying issue,
although the delay is not such that I can't live with it,
approximately
two seconds, on a brand new quad cor processor pc with four gig of
ram,
  under
windows 7 64 bit, with only nod32 and outlook running, with almost a
terabyte free memory on the hard drive, while on my notebook, running
the same version, latest of jaws, also with 4 gig ram but only a duel
cor processor, also windows 7 64 bit, running only outlook and Nod32,
with five times less memory on the hard drive left, it's more than a
  second faster.

  Regards,

Do you have this key echo delay with other screen readers like NVDA and
System Access to Go? It might be worth trying one or both of these two
free
screen readers to see whether you experience the same key echo delay
problem
with them as you do with JAWS. This way, you can determine whether the
key
echo delay is a JAWS problem only, or a more general hardware problem.

Thank you for your instructions! They sound very useful for speeding
up my
computer. However, what I am particularly referring to, is the time
delay
between pressing a letter key and hearing JAWS echo it. Sometimes,
JAWS
seems to not even know that I have pressed a key.

I've cleaned my keyboard, with the compressed air and got a lot of dog

hair out of it. May be it's just wearing out?

I had thought that this was just a Jaws problem, but now, I'm not so
sure.

Many thanks for any thoughts on this matter! Vicky

 Do a scanDisk on both.
Just go to desk top, myComputer, hit enter. Now on the local drive
hit
 application key and chose properties...
Then do a control + tab and hit enter. Tab to fix drive and check.
Then
 ok your way out.
When you reboot it will do that job.
after that is done. Run defrag on the system, and disk clean up. You
can
find that in accessories, system tools, disk clean up.
If you have a registry cleaner run it also.
 Now your all clean.
Do a insert + f11, and see just what all is running.
For some you may have to go into control panel, task bar and startup
menu. Just un check hide icons and they will show all.
Stop all that don't need to run and then shut computer off and once
off
 restart it.
That will purge the memory and come up clean. Where a reboot will
still
 keep junk around.
