Hello Susie, I think David is trying to explain to you that your problem did
not get a response because there were not one who knew the answer to your
question. For example, if I had the appropriate fix for your particular
problem I would have offered a suggestion but since I didn't I just left it
to chance that another person may be able to offer some help.
Now about the smiley face query I knew the keystroke to achieve this so I
did reply to the question and personally don't think anyone would have
trivialized your concern as a teacher. I raised questions too and got no
answer. All you need do if you feel your question is neglected, is to just

It's the open in browser button, the same thing we had to do to read Outlook
with JFW13. I just put the browser button on my quick access toolbar so that
all I had to do was press Alt,3 (in my particular case). You probably
remember that when you add items to that toolbar, they are assigned a number
that you can press after the Alt key to activate that command without having
to arrow through the buttons on the bar or try to find something in the
regular Outlook menus- which is definitely a pain.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Problem with Jaws 14 and Outlook 2007

I am having a real problem using Jaws 14, all versions including latest
update with Outlook 2007 on my windows 7 machine. When I first open Outlook
Jaws works fine allowing me to read emails using the shortcut keys such as h
for headings, etc. However after Outlook has been open for a while, 5
minutes or longer, the Jaws hot keys stop working. For example when I hit
the h key the letter h is typed in the open email rather than going to a
heading in the email.

I spoke with FS tech support yesterday. They said that it seems that
Outlook 2007 on my computer "deteriorates" after it has been open for a
while and and is not recognizing the open emails as virtual documents. He
could tell that because when I am experiencing this problem the pc cursor
key says pc cursor rather than virtual pc cursor. He suggested I make sure
my Outlook 2007 had all the updates.

I checked that and all updates for windows 7 and office 2007 have been
installed. I also ran the office diagnostic tool from the Outlook 2007 help
menu and everything reported as no problems.

I can work around this problem by either using Jaws 13 where the
insert+shift+w key opens the email in a web browser window or I can
insert+shift+close
Outlook 2007 and reopen it again when using Jaws 14. However I would like
to be able to use Jaws 14 and Outlook 2007 without having to do that every 5
minutes or so.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Greg Washington

Re: [JAWS-Users] Google Chrome or IE 9, which is better

2013-02-09 Thread Flor Lynch

Steve,

The problem is more likely to be in the second part of the error
message. The compile time user.agent value (safari) does not match the
runtime user.agent value (ie6). I haven't yet come across a 'fixit'
which will run to fix that. the Microsoft Internet Explorer fixit
encountered an unexpected error when i ran it. A lot of folks fixing
Microsoft issues prefer to stick only with Microsoft products. This
computer was originally an Apple computer, and is OEM. Well, there's my
Toshiba Windows7 laptop which has IE9, and earliest had IE8 on it. and
JAWS14 updated. Can't fail again, or can it?

Flor,

I can't vouch for this, but I did a google search with that error
code. There is a link to Microsoft Answers, and one guy suggested
uninstalling Adobe flash and then re-installing it again. That seemed
to resolve that person's error. I know the answer referenced Windows
7 with IE9, but the Adobe site references all windows versions.

I wonder if you re-booted since you tried to install the frames

Using Windows XP and JAWS13, Chrome Frame did not make reading
the googlegroups page any easier. In fact, it made it worse. (the
links wouldn't show, JAWS lost focus quite a lot, and I got the
dreaded 'open parent document button'.) perhaps Chrome Frame
would work more accessibly with JAWS14, and with IE8 or IE9 on
Windows7. I may try that; but on what pages does Chrome Frame
work well? One would have thought it should work well on google's
own mail pages, even still in Windows XP since it is advertised
to work in IE6, 7, and 8.

I suspect that the text in the from field is not appearing exactly as
you say it should in the rule. If you're off by even 1 character, the
rule won't work. Try to find the smallest, most reliable identifying
chunk of text that will identify the messages you want

For example, if the word "allrecipes" is unique to your desired
messages, then just use that little piece in the rule. check one of
the messages with the jaws cursor to get the exact spelling and
spacing.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem with Jaws 14 and Outlook 2007

2013-02-09 Thread Don & Cher Bosch

Flor,

I can't vouch for this, but I did a google search with that error code.
There is a link to Microsoft Answers, and one guy suggested uninstalling
Adobe flash and then re-installing it again. That seemed to resolve that

Adobe site references all windows versions.

Using Windows XP and JAWS13, Chrome Frame did not make reading the
googlegroups page any easier. In fact, it made it worse. (the links
wouldn't show, JAWS lost focus quite a lot, and I got the dreaded
'open parent document button'.) perhaps Chrome Frame would work more
accessibly with JAWS14, and with IE8 or IE9 on Windows7. I may try
that; but on what pages does Chrome Frame work well? One would have
thought it should work well on google's own mail pages, even still in
Windows XP since it is advertised to work in IE6, 7, and 8.

they have HTML 5 support, if you require that support on IE 8
you can install chrome framework over IE 8, this is a subset of

Re: [JAWS-Users] Smiley face saying J

2013-02-09 Thread Mike B.
Hi Flor,

I tried using the colon & right paran in the default dictionary but, you
would be amazed how many smiley faces you get in different areas of the
computer! LOL, hahaha hahaha hahaha, LOL

For example, click on My Computer from the desktop, every drive in the list
has a colon & right paran in it! The explanation I got for the colon, dash,
& right paran being the smiley face symbol is, if you turn this group of
punctuation / symbols clockwise 90 degrees, the colon represents 2 eyes, the
dash, a nose, & the right paran, a smile.

Take care.

Colon and right paren is either, I think, a smiley face or a grin.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Message Rule in Outlook Express

2013-02-09 Thread Phil Halton
I suspect that the text in the from field is not appearing exactly as you
say it should in the rule. If you're off by even 1 character, the rule won't
work. Try to find the smallest, most reliable identifying chunk of text that
will identify the messages you want

For example, if the word "allrecipes" is unique to your desired messages,
then just use that little piece in the rule. check one of the messages with
the jaws cursor to get the exact spelling and spacing.

I have set up a message rule, but it is not working. Rule and Description
is:

Where the From line contains
Allrecipes Daily Dish
, which is according to "Where the From line contains People, which is
checked. Then, I have it moved to the specified folder, which is Recipes,
and I applied it to the Inbox folder. When I try this with that From line,
it does not apply the rule. What's the problem?

I reject your comment regarding clicks. I have never seen any evidence of
such activities on this list. Often times people do not receive answers to
their questions if nobody knows the proper response.

Personally I would not want to read 600 messages saying "I don't' know".

Colon and right paren is either, I think, a smiley face or a grin.

Hi Stephanie,

Try the following:
1. Press Insert + D, for the dictionary manager & then, press control,
shift, + D, for the default dictionary manager. You want to use the
default

dictionary manager so Jaws will read the smiley face symbol in all
applications.

2. Tab to the, Add button & press the spacebar to open the Actual Word
edit

field.

3. Type in, :-), that is, colon dash right paran.). From my
understanding
the correct symbols for the smiley face are the colon, dash, & right
paran.

If I'm wrong, will someone please correct me?!

4. Tab 1 time to the, Replacement Word, edit field, & type in, smiley
face,
or, whatever you want Jaws to say whenever you come across this group
of

punctuation marks / symbols.

5. Tab to the okay button & press the spacebar. Press control + S to
save

your changes & Alt + F4 to close.

Hope this helped.
Take care.
Mike

Hi Stephanie,
I don't use it that often but I go to the Jaws window then type
insert+d to

get to the Jaws dictionaryManager.
Hopefully this will get you started.
