Hello Susie, I think David is trying to explain to you that your problem did
not get a response because there were not one who knew the answer to your
question. For example, if I had the appropriate fix for your particular
problem I would have offered a suggestion but since I didn't I just left it
to chance that another person may be able to offer some help.
Now about the smiley face query I knew the keystroke to achieve this so I
did reply to the question and personally don't think anyone would have
trivialized your concern as a teacher. I raised questions too and got no
answer. All you need do if you feel your question is neglected, is to just
ask again.

 if you use revo uninstaller:

and use it at it's most harsh setting (if you go one window at a time and

remove most of the left over registry entries for you, that's why I

hi, do you know how to get into the registry?you might be able to fix
 things

by going into the registry and deleting anything that says
 freedomscientific.
sometimes when you have to uninstall a program, you have to make sure to
delete all traces of the program. like after you uninstall Jaws, then you
 go

into the program files and find the freedomscientif c folder and totally
delete it with the shift delete key. It will ask you if you want to erace
the folder or not. I must tell you, if you do the shift delete command, it
will not move it to the recycle bin folder. Instead it will totally erace
the folder you are trying to delete.
So, you'll probably have to uninstall Jaws and delete the
 freedomscientific
 folder afterwords.
Then, go into the windows registry by using the run dialog with windows
 key
 r, then typing, regedit.exe
Now, after you hit enter, you will see a bunch of registry folders that
 are
either open or closed. The first one you will probably see first, is HKEY
classes Root. it will either say open or closed just go down until it says
something like, HKEY current user. open that folder with right arrow and
 go
down till you see the folder called software. open that folder and go down
until you see the Freedomscientific folder. just hit the delete key and it
will ask you if you want to delete the registry folder. Hit Y for yes and
 it

 will be deleted.
Next, hit left arrow a couple of times till you close the HKEY Current
 user
 folder.
Then, go down again until you see the folder called, HKEY local machine.
open that folder with right arrow and go down until you see the software
folder. open the folder and go down until you see the freedomscientific
folder. delete that folder and hit left arrow until you close the HKEY
 local

machine folder. Sorry if this is too long, but I hope I helped you.

Do you have another screen reader like NVDA so you can do this? I'm not
 sure

if it will fix your problem, but sometimes programs will get corrupted,
 and
even an uninstall and a reinstall won't help, unless, as a last resort,
 you
have to go unto the windows registry folder and deleting the program
 folder.

If all else fails, maybe try a reformat of windows.

You may have to modify the validation rule in the frame file itself. It is a

[JAWS-Users] Zoom in IE, and can I see everything.

2013-02-12 Thread Dan Rossi
Maybe I am missing something. Here is an interesting little issue I've
recently stumbled across. I wonder if I've been missing a lot of stuff
over the years.

I was attempting to do some work via a web site. My coworkers told me to
click on some link. No matter what, I could not find that link anywhere
on the page. I had a sighted coworker take a look at my screen and they
confirmed the link was not there. They showed me the section where it
should be but I only saw about four links in that section, and they had
maybe 8.

I went to view, then zoom, and I moved it from 100% to 75% and suddenly
more links appeared in that section. I moved it from 75% to 50% and
suddenly, all the links, including the one I was trying to find, appeared.

Now, should I always keep my zoom setting to the minimum? How do I even
know when I am not seeing everything that should be there?

As another little issue, seems like in HTML 5, objects that are clickable
do not announce as being such. So, sometimes I am struggling to figure
out how to find some piece of information, only to have a coworker to tell
me to click on something that just appears as a piece of text to me. It
doesn't say, link, doesn't say mouse-over, nothing, it is just text. Am I
supposed to click on every word on a page now?

2013-02-12 Thread Maria Campbell

Does this mean that you've been able to reacquire the FS reader?
I ask because I uninstalled it once and can't seem to be able to get it
back.
I'm certainly not prepared to format my PC just for the FS reader, as
suggested by the folks at Freedom Scientific.

revo uninstaller is an alternative application removal tool. you can get it
from:
http://www.revouninstaller.com/

you install revo, then reboot, then you open it go through the list your
given and select the application you wish to remove, and hit the
applications key and select remove from the list your given.
next you say yes to the do you wish to remove {insert name here} from your
computer? prompt.
in the next screen you will land on the next button, but if you shift tab
back you will find three radio buttons, easy, normal and strong or hard,
these are the uninstall modes, for this troublesome uninstall select the
strongest setting, then tab and enter on next.
the program will first do a normal uninstall using the applications
uninstaller files if possible, if not then it will try it with a few others,
and tell you when its done or if it failed and why.
you will then (by refreshing the screen) get a next button, this is where
revo is different, it now goes looking for left over registry entries, and
after scanning them will give you a new screen with the entries it found
listed in a tree view and give you different opportunities to remove them or
not, I generally choose the remove all button then enter on next.
revo will ask again if you really want to do this, say yes and then when it
finishes this part of things enter on the next button (you may need to
refresh the screen again).
you will now get one of two different results, if revo looks around your
computer and sees other leftover things, folders, files, shortcuts, etc. it
will make a list of them and present them to you in another tree view, with
the ability to delete them or not as you wish (again I usually choose
delete all) and then another next button, or if it does not find any left
over items it will give you the finish screen and button
entering on finish will update the original data/applications screen and
give you the opportunity to remove other items.

some additional notes:
the list will use first letter navigation to get you to the item you wish to
delete.
2. you can set this first screen to a list view, by using the jaws cursor
(route jaws to pc) and then up arrowing and clicking on the view option near
the top of the screen.

so reinstall jaws 14, install this program, and remove jaws 14 with it, then
reinstall this may get you back your fs reader shortcut (note it may not be
in the jaws program folder, I use j-13, and it shows up as a seperate folder
in my start menu)

hope this helps,

I was looking into this because after I cleaned jaws off my machine and
reinstalled the FsReader did not install. I believe that running the
uninstall from the executable does not clean things up very well. I think
upon reinstalling the installer thought the FsReader was still there [there
was a lot of junk in the registry] and wouldn't install it.
I think it should be made a crime to not remove everything an installer puts
in the machine, of course a application developer can't understand why any

Maybe I am missing something. Here is an interesting little issue I've
recently stumbled across. I wonder if I've been missing a lot of stuff over
the years.

I was attempting to do some work via a web site. My coworkers told me to
click on some link. No matter what, I could not find that link anywhere on
the page. I had a sighted coworker take a look at my screen and they
confirmed the link was not there. They showed me the section where it
should be but I only saw about four links in that section, and they had
maybe 8.

I went to view, then zoom, and I moved it from 100% to 75% and suddenly more
links appeared in that section. I moved it from 75% to 50% and suddenly,
all the links, including the one I was trying to find, appeared.

Now, should I always keep my zoom setting to the minimum? How do I even
know when I am not seeing everything that should be there?

As another little issue, seems like in HTML 5, objects that are clickable do
not announce as being such. So, sometimes I am struggling to figure out how
to find some piece of information, only to have a coworker to tell me to
click on something that just appears as a piece of text to me. It doesn't
say, link, doesn't say mouse-over, nothing, it is just text. Am I supposed
to click on every word on a page now?

Re: [JAWS-Users] audacity or gold wave

2013-02-12 Thread Dang Manh Cuong

Hi Kimsan
As you know, audacity is free, multi track. So it useful for creating
podcast or something like that. I like multi track recording because I can
import more than one clip into a project, and edit it endependonly.
GoldWave is not free, and not multi track. However, you can edit your common
files such as mp3, wave... directly. There are some hotkey simula to
audacity. In some case, editt audio file with GoldWave might easier than
Audacity.
The latest version of GoldWave have a feature call loopback. It good for
people who want to create tutorial with screen reader, but their sound card
don't have stereo mix.
Gold wave might good for recording or editing audio, such as cut, copy,
paste etc, but audacity is multi track recording, and contain a hundress of
free plugins. If would brings the best quality for your audio.
I usually record my tutorial using some other program, save as wave file,
edit it then import into audacity to apply effects such as noise removal,
compressor and export it to mp3.

[JAWS-Users] Graphics card advice needed

2013-02-12 Thread Waqas Chauhdry
Greetings

I am buying a customised laptop from HP and have the choice of Intel HD 4000
or Gforce GT 630m 2GB graphics card. I'd really appreciate if someone with
relevant knowledge can advise me which card may work better with Jaws?

This is a HP DV6 model with I7 2.4 Intel quadcore processor, 8 GB RAM and a
full HD display if any of these details matter. It comes recommended with
Windows 8 but I am down grading to Windows 7.

Very Best Regards

Re: [JAWS-Users] Creating Frames

2013-02-12 Thread Steve
Yes, it is still there at least in Jaws 14 with Windows 7. As I was going
to tell you what to do, it occurs to me that with Win 8, there is no review
mode anymore. So, I don't know whether you can even access the area you
want to frame.

You start a frame with control-shift-left-bracket and end with
control-shift-right-bracket.

I have the Win 8 Pro upgrade DVD but haven't upgraded my old Vista laptop to
Win 8 so I am only speculating as to the frame issue.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

What a waste of money. With the amount of Ram these days, there is no need
for a separate graphics card unless you have specific entertainment/gaming
needs. You get all the basics, possibly with the exception of dual-monitor

[JAWS-Users] ready boost

2013-02-12 Thread David Ferrin
I have just been looking at this feature although granted for only around 20
minutes at this point. I must say it is quite easy to configure but so far
not noticing a major jump in performance yet. That maybe because this system
does function fairly well on it's own but like I said it is still early in
my research.

On the other hand there is no decrease which I wouldn't expect. In reading
the documentation I took note of the line that said something to the effect
that you should have at least twice the available storage on the card as the
system onboard memory which at the moment is not the case.

This system has 3 GB of memory and the SD card I am testing with is a 2 GB.
Now I do have an 8 GB as well as a couple of 4 GB cards but for now they are
all being used for other purposes.

I am curious as to what experience any of you out there who have tried this
feature have had and would be willing to share.

The way the instructions are written I take them to say if my system has 4
GB of memory then the card or flash drive should be an 8 GB device, on the
other hand I suppose it could be argued that the directions mean simply that
the card in this case simply double the amount of memory in the system. In
other words for example for this system I would need to utilize 3 GB of a 4
GB card for best results.

Feedback on this subject would be welcome as improving system performance
will benefit us all.

[JAWS-Users] .WTV Files

2013-02-12 Thread Hicks Steven (CORNWALL IT SERVICES)
Hi friends,

does anyone know an application that works with JAWS that will allow me to
convert .WTV files recorded from Microsoft Windows Media Centre to another
format?
It seems that if you copy them from the machine that they were originally
recorded on, the right click menu to convert them to .DVR-MS is disabled.
I hope that I haven't lost these recordings as I have changed around PC's and
tuners and there is a lot of them and the right click option seems to have gone.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Zoom in IE, and can I see everything.

2013-02-12 Thread Steve
Interesting, I am going to keep your zoom experience in mind though. In the
past, I've noticed some webpages where jaws will say list of nine items, yet
there will only be five things in the list. I also have noticed years ago,
say back in Jaws 9, that there were some websites where Jaws would only
recognize twenty links but Window-Eyes would show over thirty.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Zoom in IE, and can I see everything.

I'd get it with the GForce only because you may want or even need it later,
and since we're talking about a laptop, either you do it now or you'll be
stuck with out it. I don't know, but I've been told you can't add it later
and if this is true, I'd take the chance if I were you. As for Win 8, well
you have your reasons, but again, I'd go with it. I have as a matter of fact

Why did it matter back then any how? What changed? I've heard that and it
always sounded some what odd to me.

These days the particular card does not factor in to the equation as it did
in the past, so as several people have stated it is pretty much not an
issue.

What a waste of money. With the amount of Ram these days, there is no need
for a separate graphics card unless you have specific entertainment/gaming
needs. You get all the basics, possibly with the exception of dual-monitor
support, with a built-in graphics card and you save $80-200 or more by
avoiding the need for a separate card and you also save a slot.

 Dear inthane,

I'm getting a separate graphics card- and heard some recommendation to
that effect a long while ago. Sorry, that I don't remember the
specifics, and hope that the person who said it knew whereof he spoke.
The guy building the computer likes separate graphics cards also, so
that reinforced the decision to go that way. Don't tear up your wife's
 computer ;)

Thanks for the info- will write back if any problem arises.
 Cher

I have 4 computers here and the only one I have had any trouble with
in this area is my wife's AMD with a built in AMD video card. and I'm
not even trying to say that all the built in AMD cards are
troublesome, just the one she has, I'll go break into her machine and
find out which one its using if you want that info.

but her AMD matching, with built in video card has some small troubles
that seem to be (from all I and FS can determine) troubles with this
 setup.

 regards,
 inthane

Thanks for the suggestion Rick- unfortunately not very much there. I
tried both graphics card and video card- I'm confused at this point
whether they are different or if the term has just changed ;) It was a
good suggestion though, and I forget that that source of info is
available.

 Hi Cher,
You could also check the technical service bulletins on the FS website.
