Subject: [JAWS-Users] iTunes problems

I've got 2 systems, one running Windows 7, the other running Windows Xp
Sp3. Both have iTunes on them. The windows 7 system works fine, the xp
system does not. The xp system will start to play a tv show, then stop,
then stutter, then start playing again. It does this at random. I've
downloaded the latest sound, video, and chipset drivers. Tried
uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes and everything related to it. I've
tried running iTunes in safe mode. I have tried setting Quicktime to
play using wav out and gdi safe mode for the video out, but still no
luck. Any help would be appreciated.
Oh, and here's what it might sound like if I'm playing a video on
Windows xp.
Hello, are WeWeWeWeWeWeWeWeWeWeWe having fun YetYetYetYetYet? Then it
plays for a bit, then starts stustustustustustuttering like that again.

Hi Scott,
Try including the Fn key in your commands, for example:
Fn + Insert + F11 for the System Tray.
I ran into this on a Gateway laptop,but don't remember off-hand
what needed to be changed with the keyboard to eliminate this behavior,
or, if it could be changed.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] keyboard on new laptop

Hi Everyone,

I just got a new HP Envy laptop running Windows 8. I am using the latest
build of JAWS 14. The function keys on the laptop have lost their mind. I
cannot use the JAWS key with any of the function keys to get the expected
function. For example, caps lock plus F12 does not give me the time. If I
press F1, without holding down anything, JAWS says Windows F1 and it acts as
though I were holding down the Windows key even though I am not. If I press
F2 or F3, it says MK wheel click. If I press F4, it says Windows P.
This problem only effects the function keys (F1 through F12). If I use a
external USB keyboard, everything works normally. So, is there a software
issue here or is the keyboard on my new laptop defective?

Thanks,

Scott Duck

Re: [JAWS-Users] clarification behind external headset question

2013-02-18 Thread inthaneelf
I don't know that particular headset, but if it is a USB headset it will
show up as a seperate device in the various places, most times you need to
either go into your music players and tell them to use the onboard sound
card (or the device you want) or do this in control panel, sound, playback
devices after plugging all your stuff in, then you go into jaws and tell it
to use the headphones by default (or another particular device) as it's
default sound device.

sound in control panel and then in the jaws application menu's are the two
places you should tell things what to use to make noise!

if you need deeper instructions I can dig them out for you tomorrow or later
today (just looked at my clock) for you.

You may be confusing java with java script. There may be a few websites
that need java, but having disabled it on my machine and my wife's, and
leaving that way for a few months, I can say that we haven't found a
website yet that wouldn't work without java. These two similarly named
languages are completely different. From what I've been reading it may
take a long time for the problems with java to be fixed; don't be
surprised if they take a few more swipes at it.

[JAWS-Users] Jaws 14/W-7 and Java?

2013-02-18 Thread Stormin
So a up-date and not so correct sentences.
First off I found a person, not on this group that was willing to work with
myself and this computer.
A: First off with all virus protection, which three they are all paid Pro
programs.
B: Still using Outlook Office as work for home and e-mail but will in time
go to Outlook Office 2010 after finishing training in it. Just to busy
training for up grades for AAA call center.
C: I use Quicken 10 thinking and that runs my home entirely.
That said. This is a Windows 7 and the owner on this list knows what it all
has in it. Which Jaws 13 latest was working grand on it. When Internet 9 was
installed, I decided to go with Jaws 14 that I have a license for.
First stripping all of Jaws 13 and all associated to it.
Then installed Jaws 14 February release. This proven to be a frustration as
it would freeze up.
I did report and to this date not heard from FS Tech that is looking at the
dump files that was told on HIGH Priority.
That said, I asked questions here and because of sentence and language
barriers.. Well, I contacted a friend that uses Jaws here and there. He uses
another screen reader but this is Jaws group.
First off he noted that this machine was more or less set up for gamers.
Thus noted go to the web site and see what recommendations and then to the
Microsoft site and see the optional up dates see if related to the cards and
bingo so down loaded them.
Also installed with this gentleman's Help the newest of Java for windows 7
and 64 bit and installed. Unlike some comments on the list. It is a valued
tool here and there. FS, Tech, also advised that one should have the latest
of Java as noted on their site.
Because of the Jaws not coming back and well just turn the power off on four
different times. So Friday I did a complete disc clean up, left over night
to do it's thing, the last step 7 hours. then After work did a defrag. To
this point Jaws 14 seems by all accounts working and no disappearance of
Jaws 14 to this point. I am going to leave it on all day today to see if
Jaws 14 will still be there anytime during the day and evening. If so the
ideas that my friend in Louisiana, who has a heart of Gold, willing to work
with me knowing I am scared as heck of the guts of this computer. Slowly
walk me through VIA Skype to complete the project at hand. Compared to the
cold reception on the Jaws Users Group.
Yet, There is some valued information with Blind Computing and Jaws users
group so I don't mind donating to the keeping David's group site going.
As in the business of Call Receiving at AAA, Presentation, compassion,
understanding and tone of delivery which is highly recommended, demanded,
that it could be used here. So quick to judge. There is myself and others
that are scared as heck of the insides of the computer. Others here are A
walk in the park on the insides of a computer. So how about cutting a break
and understand all are not near the level as those of you that are on a
higher level or experts.
I can see why people are afraid to ask questions. As one, not worded
correctly. Really? might be a beginner or not sure how to ask.
Two, This might be a silly question so not sure if I should ask it.
I've been using jaws since it came out. I am no more comfortable now with
the inside of this computer now or then.

I guess the signature thing could be major if you are a bit skeptic, the
E-mail account not being listed could really be major, and the spell check

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Office 2013 with JAWS

 Hello,

I contacted FS and asked if Office 2013 works with JAWS 14. Their
E-mail response said that Office 2013 is known to work with the latest
build of JAWS 14 but it is a work in progress. Just how much of a
work in progress is it? Does anyone on the list have experience with
it? I use Office a lot and I don't need something that is only half
usable. It doesn't look like you can get previous versions of Office
from the Microsoft online store. My copy of Office 2003 has finely
run out of activations. I wonder if I need to see if I can find a
copy of Office 2010 at Best Buy or a office supply store.

 Thanks,

 Scott Duck

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 14/W-7 and Java?

2013-02-18 Thread Steve
Yeah, I've lived without Sun's Java now for the last six weeks and have yet
to find any issues. Don't confuse the Sun Java with Adobe's Flash which is
different.

I know they claim to have resolved the issue with update 13, but they also
claimed to have fixed it with update 11, which was shown to not be the case
in a couple days. Also, despite Sun's claims, untying Internet Explorer
from Flash wasn't very easy.

Since there are real critical security issues with Flash that were left open
for a long time, if you don't need Sun Flash, why open yourself up to
potential problems?

You may be confusing java with java script. There may be a few websites
that need java, but having disabled it on my machine and my wife's, and
leaving that way for a few months, I can say that we haven't found a
website yet that wouldn't work without java. These two similarly named
languages are completely different. From what I've been reading it may
take a long time for the problems with java to be fixed; don't be
surprised if they take a few more swipes at it.

Well, unless you are going to use libre office or similar, you probably
don't need Java for anything. I guess some websites might use it, but
unless you know you need it, get rid of it and you'll have one less

Yes I am quite able to state that Gene has all the licenses that he needs
paid for out of his own pocket because I set it up almost a year ago.

I guess it has been far too long since I made the point that all who are
subscribed on here may ask questions no matter of their respective skill
level and somebody who feels that they are more advance doesn't approve of
the manner said question was stated remember this little fact. Back when I
was teaching at the local community college I always reminded my students
that nobody is the best at computers, there will always be a person who
knows more or at least different stuff. I even went on to say that there
were many people better than me but none of them were in the room at that
time.

I told them that if any of you were better than me you wouldn't be sitting
there and I would not be sitting up here. I must admit that the teachers
chair was more comfortable but I didn't get to stay in it very much.

Never the less nobody should ever feel embarrassed or afraid to ask a
question on here, that was at the very Genesis of this list.

If anybody feels like they have been put down call it to the attention of
the management team listed on the help page. I do read all of the mail on
here but with upwards of 50 messages a day give or take something might have
slipped past me in the rush.

Good people we need, those with bad attitudes are expendable.

I am no more comfortable now with

headphone choice without an additional card plugged in because it is just on

jack, it just stays with the speakers. Once I connect my bluetooth headset,
I get another headset choice and it works as expected.

If I am looking for a file, than window + F is the key stroke that I use.
For example, say I am looking for a excel folder named 2012 I would use
Window + f and arrow down to document, spreadsheets, etc. and enter on it.
In the edit box I would type in the folder name or file name. Reading his

the dialogue boxes come up in that version but, after running the, old
search off registry hack to turn the old search off in the registry, I can

Subject: [JAWS-Users] update error

I installed my jaws 14 upgrade this afternoon and all was working well
until I did an online update. Once I restarted the computer to complete the
update, jaws stopped reading things properly. It announces which button etc
that I am pressing but read nothing on the screen or in the menus etc. I
got my sighted boyfriend to look through the jaws options and we have
selected “read all” but nothing has changed. Does anybody know what the
problem might be and how to resolve it please?

I was the one who said he was using jaws 14 and office 2013. When I first
started using it, it was very clunky, somethings just wouldn't load, and
sometimes you had to reboot for better results. Now that jaws 14 has an
update, most things work. The main thing that doesn't work is when you go
to type a signature, it doesn't read you the text, but it is there. When
you try to switch between accounts it won't tell you witch account is
highlighted. Spell check does the same thing, it will tell you there is a
miss spelled word, but not read you the suggestions. Your suppose to be
able to sign in to your sky drive account, and have your word documents
saved there, but mine always tells me to look because there were arrows
discovered. That's all I have found so far. FS knows, so we will see if
they address it in the next update. As for activating office, now you go
through an automated system, that walks you through and asks questions about
how many pc's you have activated there product on, say 1, and it will give

Quick answer is no.
The cell has to be in focus for JAWS to be able to read the data / formula.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Invoking The Control + F Keystroke

2013-02-18 Thread RJ

Rick,

What I like about the win key+ f is no matter where one is at, they can get
the file they are looking for. Example, if in O E or the desktop or on the
internet, I can bring up the spreadsheet , or document I am looking for
without closing from the window I am in. Alt tab will bring me from the
document I open back to where I was.

Interesting, I have always used the Control + F keysroke to open the
Windows

Search.
I don't usually browse for a location from the search dialogue, I open the
search from within the folder I am wanting to search.
When using this method, the only difference I find, is that if I Alt F4
the

search window
after using the Control + F to open it, it also closes the folder from
which I was searching.
This is not the case using the Windows + F keystroke to open the search
dialogue.
Using either keystroke here, seems to yield the same results.
The only time I use the Jaws find command, Insert + Control + F, is on the
internet.

No. You've got to understand the type of search. If it's a search for
files folders, then it is *not* control +f. If it's a search within a
document or on the Internet, then it is control +f.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Invoking The Control + F Keystroke

Hi All,

Whenever I invoke the control + F keystroke, which is supposed to
invoke
the
screen readers find dialogue, Jaws goes dead I have to use the
Insert,
Windows key, + F4 keystroke to shut Jaws down a shortcut keystroke
to
get
Jaws running again. Does anyone have this issue or am I using the
wrong
keystroke for starting a search? If I'm using the wrong keystroke
for
starting a search, for certain files for example, whaat is the
correct
keystrroke? All advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very
much.
Take care.
Mike

Re: [JAWS-Users] Downloading and saving Ebooks

2013-02-18 Thread Van Der Walt Riana
The Adobe Digital Editions must be authorised with the same ID with which the
books were purchased from the vendor site.

Sometimes it helps to first open the Adobe digital reader on one's pc before
downloading the .acsm file to the pc.

The complete book will only be downloaded when one opens the acsm file with
adobe digital reader on one's pc.

Adobe ditgital reader version 2 is accessible with jaws, from version 12 but I
never try to locate the files via its library.

I open them by highlighting the acsm file in windows explorer and choose adobe
digital reader via the application key.

It will say fulfilling title and book content when the book has been opened.

The complete file of the downloaded ebook, .epub or .pdf, will then be in the
my digital editions directory under my documents.

It reads fine with jaws 12 and you can use the bookmark and go to page features
by pressing tab in the open document and following the prompts.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Downloading and saving Ebooks

To All Listers:

My wife had purchased several EBooks and is having a problem transferring them
from the purchase website to her computer. She has Adobe Digital Edition for
opening the books, but she is having issues with that as well. Any suggestions
will be appreciated.

Jerry
Forgiveness is one of the most difficult things to give, but the most
necessary to administer.
