I am using the latest build of JAWS 14. The function keys on the laptop have lost their mind. I cannot use the JAWS key with any of the function keys to get the expected function. For example, caps lock plus F12 does not give me the time. If I press F1, without holding down anything, JAWS says Windows F1 and it acts as though I were holding down the Windows key even though I am not. If I press F2 or F3, it says MK wheel click. If I press F4, it says Windows P. This problem only effects the function keys (F1 through F12). If I use a external USB keyboard, everything works normally. So, is there a software issue here or is the keyboard on my new laptop defective? Re: [JAWS-Users] clarification behind external headset question
I don't know that particular headset, but if it is a USB headset it will show up as a seperate device in the various places, most times you need to either go into your music players and tell them to use the onboard sound card (or the device you want) or do this in control panel, sound, playback devices after plugging all your stuff in, then you go into jaws and tell it to use the headphones by default (or another particular device) as it's default sound device. sound in control panel and then in the jaws application menu's are the two places you should tell things what to use to make noise! if you need deeper instructions I can dig them out for you tomorrow or later today (just looked at my clock) for you. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 14/W-7 and Java?
You may be confusing java with java script. There may be a few websites that need java, but having disabled it on my machine and my wife's, and leaving that way for a few months, I can say that we haven't found a website yet that wouldn't work without java. These two similarly named languages are completely different. From what I've been reading it may take a long time for the problems with java to be fixed; don't be surprised if they take a few more swipes at it. I guess the signature thing could be major if you are a bit skeptic, the E-mail account not being listed could really be major, and the spell check thing really is major. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 14/W-7 and Java?
Yeah, I've lived without Sun's Java now for the last six weeks and have yet to find any issues. Don't confuse the Sun Java with Adobe's Flash which is different. I know they claim to have resolved the issue with update 13, but they also claimed to have fixed it with update 11, which was shown to not be the case in a couple days. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 14/W-7 and Java?
Yes I am quite able to state that Gene has all the licenses that he needs paid for out of his own pocket because I set it up almost a year ago. I guess it has been far too long since I made the point that all who are subscribed on here may ask questions no matter of their respective skill level and somebody who feels that they are more advance doesn't approve of the manner said question was stated remember this little fact. Back when I was teaching at the local community college I always reminded my students that nobody is the best at computers, there will always be a person who knows more or at least different stuff. I even went on to say that there were many people better than me but none of them were in the room at that time. I told them that if any of you were better than me you wouldn't be sitting there and I would not be sitting up here. I must admit that the teachers chair was more comfortable but I didn't get to stay in it very much. Never the less nobody should ever feel embarrassed or afraid to ask a question on here, that was at the very Genesis of this list. If anybody feels like they have been put down call it to the attention of the management team listed on the help page. I do read all of the mail on here but with upwards of 50 messages a day give or take something might have slipped past me in the rush. Good people we need, those with bad attitudes are expendable. This proven to be a frustration as it would freeze up. I did report and to this date not heard from FS Tech that is looking at the dump files that was told on HIGH Priority. That said, I asked questions here and because of sentence and language barriers.. Well, I contacted a friend that uses Jaws here and there. He uses another screen reader but this is Jaws group. If I am looking for a file, than window + F is the key stroke that I use. For example, say I am looking for a excel folder named 2012 I would use Window + f and arrow down to document, spreadsheets, etc. and enter on it. In the edit box I would type in the folder name or file name. Reading his post, he was looking for a file. No. You've got to understand the type of search. If it's a search for files folders, then it is *not* control +f. Justin, I don't know much about the zoom function, but it seems that you can zoom from 400% to 50%. It apparently makes the field of view smaller on the screen so that my sighted colleagues don't like it if I have it set too low. I never really messed with it before until I found out that I was missing some links that sighted colleagues said they had on their screen. Re: [JAWS-Users] Invoking The Control + F Keystroke
Hi Flor, Justin, RJ, Thank you very much for your replies input. First, I misspoke, I was trying to do a windows search but, what happened was I was using a registry hack that allowed me to use the Windows 98 search in XP.. I prefer the way the dialogue boxes come up in that version but, after running the, old search off registry hack to turn the old search off in the registry, I can now use both the control + F Windows Key + F, keystrokes to open the windows search dialogue. So, back to normal well, Doctor Phil would argue the hell out of that! LOL, hahaha hahaha hahaha, LOL Thanks again. Take care. Re: [JAWS-Users] Invoking The Control + F Keystroke
Interesting, I have always used the Control + F keysroke to open the Windows Search. I don't usually browse for a location from the search dialogue, I open the search from within the folder I am wanting to search. When using this method, the only difference I find, is that if I Alt F4 the search window after using the Control + F to open it, it also closes the folder from which I was searching. This is not the case using the Windows + F keystroke to open the search dialogue. Using either keystroke here, seems to yield the same results. The only time I use the Jaws find command, Insert + Control + F, is on the internet. Right, and since the touch screen stuff doesn't interest me, I have no desire to install windows 8. Hello all. I am using Windows XP, Jaws 11 and Excel 2007. Is there a way I can get Jaws to read the contents of a particular cell without having to navigate to it. Also, does anyone know of a good totorial on Excel 2007? As always, all help is very much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Re: [JAWS-Users] Question Regarding Excel 2007 and Jaws
Quick answer is no. The cell has to be in focus for JAWS to be able to read the data / formula. Glen *** On 19-Feb-13 3:35 pm, Pedro Romero wrote: Hello all. Re: [JAWS-Users] Invoking The Control + F Keystroke
Rick, What I like about the win key+ f is no matter where one is at, they can get the file they are looking for. Example, if in O E or the desktop or on the internet, I can bring up the spreadsheet , or document I am looking for without closing from the window I am in. Alt tab will bring me from the document I open back to where I was. Re: [JAWS-Users] Downloading and saving Ebooks
The Adobe Digital Editions must be authorised with the same ID with which the books were purchased from the vendor site. Sometimes it helps to first open the Adobe digital reader on one's pc before downloading the .acsm file to the pc. The complete book will only be downloaded when one opens the acsm file with adobe digital reader on one's pc. Adobe ditgital reader version 2 is accessible with jaws, from version 12 but I never try to locate the files via its library. I open them by highlighting the acsm file in windows explorer and choose adobe digital reader via the application key. It will say fulfilling title and book content when the book has been opened. The complete file of the downloaded ebook, .epub or .pdf, will then be in the my digital editions directory under my documents. It reads fine with jaws 12 and you can use the bookmark and go to page features by pressing tab in the open document and following the prompts.
