Re: [JAWS-Users] Screen Saver for Laptop
Trish. I agree with Mike. It is better to keep the no screen savers option. In fact, screen savers are probably not needed by anyone any more. In years past when monitors were CRT tubes they had a chance of burning in a patteren on the screen if one thing was on the screen all of the time. That is why screen savers were used, they refreshed the screen with changing patterns. Burning in of the screen doesn't happen any more with the new digital screens. So screen savers are no longer needed . Some people still like them because they create interesting patterns or shapes or something else on the screen that they find visually pleasing. [JAWS-Users] Jaws Authorizzation
Recently I had some issues after shutting down my laptop and after about 45 minutes, I turned it back on. When that booted up, jaws was in this 40 minute mode or it was wanting to be and giving me that screen for the key info. I provided that info, but still was experiencing something. I rebooted again, then I called FS, and was advised to run my authorization disk so the registry would get my key where it needs to be and recognize it as correct. So I did this. I then checked to see if it was all in order. I had to re-enter the key again under the part to update my SMA so it states correctly, thankfully it did. Now, what I want to know is, where do I look to make sure that my key is showing so jaws does not go into this demo mode again? Re: [JAWS-Users] changing font in word 2010
Jaws reads it fine. I've worked with numerous font styles in Word over the years. I have drawn no real conclusions on how well OCR packages like Open Book and Kurzweil would scan those fonts, it might be necessary to tweak the contrast settings as the lines in the letters are a bit thinner. But, as far as Jaws reading them in MsWord, not an issue. Take my advice, I don't use it anyway. When monitors were CRT tubes you might need a screen saver. Your laptop computer is a digital display and does not need a screen saver. Re: [JAWS-Users] Screen Saver for Laptop
Hi As has been said, the old CRT monitors needed to keep changing, or be blanked out, to keep from burning a pattern into the screen. But with the new LCD/LED monitors, this is no longer necessary. So if you want to have the screen go blank after a period of non-activity, go into the power settings. There you will find a setting to turn off the monitor after a period of inactivity, which you can choose. Using this setting should also help extend your battery life. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Trish Sent: Saturday, March 29, 2014 11:07 To: Jaws Users List Subject: [JAWS-Users] Screen Saver for Laptop I need to know if I need to select a screen saver setting for my window's 7 laptop? George, thanks so much. The letter navigation is fine, and the first thing doesn't work for me. I think it is just as you say, someone needs to reply to a message I send in order to then be on the address book with this Outlook 2003, otherwise I need to look them up on the contact list myself. Try this: Start a new email. If, you shift tab you should hear contact or MS contact use your arrow to select contact. Then, to name only-checked. And radio lines or something like that-unchec. Try re adding the address and see if it saved, by using control + 3 or control + shift + B. I know for a fact outlook 2003 does not have a selective contact list or to activate the address, you have to send a email to a recipient like in outlook 07 and 10. Or maybe your problem is here: PressWindows +R, and type outlook / cleanviews and press enter. Down arrow to the reading paine and press enter. Press insert + V and press enter. Down arrow to auto correct and check it. That will correct your letter navigation, when selecting. If you have been here before, it will be the item you last opened. Arrow down or, use first letter navigation to get to, Security Enhanced. Note that this is the item below Security. Then uncheck these 2 options, the 2nd option is not necessary to uncheck but, optional: Enable Protected Mode at startup, needs to be unchecked. Enable Enhanced Security, does not need to be unchecked. Now, tab to, Okay, press enter to save your change close Adobe preferences. Note. Re: [JAWS-Users] Recommended screen resolution settings
Mike..an interesting aha point. I had my XP system in 800/600 resolution mode forever because I liked the larger, thicker look of the text. But the higher res settings do make everything on the screen smaller and may even admit more content than my 800x600 setting will. I manually approve Windows updates and will repeat your experiment with the Windows update screens.
