2014-03-31 Thread Jorge Rivas
Hello Mike,
After reading your reply; I think that might be the reason I cannot ever
locate the save button.
The only buttons that appear is the open and run.
I'll check it later and set it to your setting.

Thanks,
Jorge

That's interesting... did not know that resolution could make the difference
in seeing/not seeing items on the screen. Haven't played with them here.

Hi Cher,

What I'm referring to is, for example, I have a windows update shortcut on
the desktop when I click on it I'm in the windows update window, using
my current screen resolution settings, I route the Jaws to the PC cursor,
press page-up to go to the top of the page, arrow down 1 line at a time,
Jaws will report that windows is up to date arrowing down a little more
Jaws reports that there are no updates available. Jaws doesn't report this
using other screen resolution settings, speaking for my system only.

Let me preface my next example by saying, I haven't been to system restore
in awhile, my Win7 system isn't availble to me at the moment , I don't
recall if finding this checkbox is ,with or without the use of routing the
Jaws to PC cursor.
Another scenario: In system restore, using my current screen resolution
settings, I can find the, Choose a different restore point radio button not
checked, checkbox but, using other screen resolution settings I couldn't.
Again, speaking for my experiences with my system only.

HTH

Take care.

Hi Greg,

As Rick said, sometimes it takes some playing around with the screen
resolution to come to a happy medium I.e, On my Win7 Pro desktop system, I
played around quite with it finally settled on a screen resolution of,
1360 × 768, with the orientation set on, Landscape, for my happy medium.

Hi Greg,
Starting with Windows 7, there is no recommended display resolution for
Jaws,per-say,
Many use 1024 by 768, but it will vary from system to system.
I have found that on many systems Jaws seems to work fine with what the
system chooses as the default
based on the hardware and software installed.
Sometimes you can adjust the display for better performance which may be
good for some programs,
but not others, so you usually end up with looking for a happy medium.
HTH,

[JAWS-Users] Settings for Outlook 2010

2014-03-31 Thread Greg Washington
I just upgraded from Outlook 2007 to Outlook 2010 on a windows 7 64 bit
computer using Jaws 13. I have several questions.
1. How do you hide the reading pane?
2. Can you set it so when I tab from the messages list the first column I
land on is the list of folders?
3. Have people found the regular Outlook virtual ribbon menus to work or are
the Jaws virtual ribbon menus better?
Thanks for any help in these matters. I imagine some of these questions
have been answered previously but since I didn't have Outlook 2010 I may
have not paid close attention to the answers.

But, a couple years ago I did buy the program at BJ's for $25, but it was
not Jaws accessible and I needed visual help to run it
They gave you 3 installs, but their wasted already
If, anyone has use the program above, please add more because I'm interested
myself with other opinions with the copy DVD 123 in the Wind 7 application?.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Tethering Jaws Cursor

2014-03-31 Thread Mike B.
Hi LeDon,

Here is an explanation of all 4 of the different cursors:

 About JAWS Cursors
Navigating through Windows with JAWS is accomplished with cursors. These
cursors determine the focus of JAWS speech and are often directly linked
 with Windows cursors.

The PC Cursor - Follows Keystrokes
This cursor is linked to the keyboard functions of Windows and
 applications.
This is the cursor that is used when typing information, moving through
options in dialog boxes, and selecting options or icons. As you type
information, the PC Cursor follows along with each key you press. If you
 are
making a selection in a menu or dialog box, the PC Cursor highlights the
currently selected object. The PC Cursor is activated by default when JAWS
starts. If you are using a different cursor, pressing NUM PAD PLUS returns
 you to the PC Cursor.

The JAWS Cursor - Follows Mouse Pointer
The JAWS Cursor is linked to mouse pointer functions in Windows and other
applications. It is used to read information the PC Cursor cannot read,
 such
as toolbar information. The mouse follows along with the JAWS Cursor when
 it
is moved, and you therefore have access to information in an application
window that is beyond the scope of the PC Cursor. To activate the JAWS
 Cursor, press NUM PAD MINUS.

The Virtual PC Cursor - HTML Environment
The virtual PC Cursor mimics the functions of the PC Cursor, but is
activated by default when entering an HTML document. The virtual PC Cursor
speaks the number of frames in a document, and the number of links in the
frame. You can switch between frames, and JAWS reads graphics labeled by
 alt
 tags in the HTML code.

Invisible Cursor

The JAWS cursor is basically the mouse cursor that is visible on screen.
The invisible cursor can be moved around just like the JAWS cursor to view
information. It works like the mouse cursor but can not be seen on screen
or effect objects. Therefore you can not use the NumPad / (left mouse
click) or NumPad * (right mouse click) on an object. It is useful to read
information without disturbing the mouse cursor. It is also useful to
determine colors or whatever might change when the mouse is over an object.
It will not cause ToolTips to pop up.

Take care.

Hi,
I have done a couple of restores and the file name is usually BK something.

OK, where do I re install the file back into the pc or a similar pc?
I did ask the club months ago...

also, you can not install a BK file from a laptop into a desktop or
viseversa.
Because of the configurations.
After, you are done restoring move the BK file to a external HD because it
takes up to much space in your computer.

I just wanted to pass that info.

Pete,
You can also do a restore through safe mode.

But, jaws is not talking at that time, so you will need a pair of eyeballs
with you.

Press the F8 key rapidly, while the pc is booting up.
If, successful, the safe mode screen should pop up, if not, shut the pc
and

retry.

It's a nice little menu there, be careful.

yes, it should do that for you and you probably have to use the 4.47
size and it will compress your dual-layer dvd's to a single layer dvd
which is what you purchase from the store. dual-layer dvd's are
available but are much more expensive than single layer dvd's
dual--layer dvd's are about 7.5 gb wher single are 4.47gb. i have
over 3000 movies that i have copied through out the years.

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Tethering Jaws Cursor

If you
are making a selection in a menu or dialog box, the PC Cursor highlights
the currently selected object. The PC Cursor is activated by default when
JAWS starts. If you are using a different cursor, pressing NUM PAD PLUS
returns you to the PC Cursor.

The JAWS Cursor - Follows Mouse Pointer The JAWS Cursor is linked to mouse
pointer functions in Windows and other applications. It is used to read
information the PC Cursor cannot read, such as toolbar information. The
mouse follows along with the JAWS Cursor when it is moved, and you
therefore have access to information in an application window that is
beyond the scope of the PC Cursor. To activate the JAWS Cursor, press NUM
PAD MINUS.

The Virtual PC Cursor - HTML Environment The virtual PC Cursor mimics the
functions of the PC Cursor, but is activated by default when entering an
HTML document. The virtual PC Cursor speaks the number of frames in a
document, and the number of links in the frame. You can switch between
frames, and JAWS reads graphics labeled by alt tags in the HTML code.

Take care.
Mike

2014-03-31 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Sugar,

The following steps apply when using Outlook 2013. I am quite sure they are
either the same or very similar for Outlook 2010.

1. Use Alt+F.

2. Press Alt+T.

3. If focus is at the top of the category list then arrow down once to
the Mail category. Otherwise, press up or down arrow key until you find the
mail category.

4. Tab six times to the Signatures button and use spacebar.

5. Tab to the New button and use spacebar.

6. Type in the name to apply to the signature for example work mail
signature or home mail signature.

7. Tab to OK and use spacebar.

8. Use Shift+Tab until you pass the OK button and you will find an
edit box. Type your signature in this edit field. You can use enter key if
using more than one line of text.

9. After typing in your signature block and if you are only going to
use one signature then tab to the OK button and use spacebar. If you have
more than one signature then tab to the combo boxes for which signature to
be used for new mail and forwarded or replied to mail. If you are using
more than one signature then after choosing which one to use for new mail
and forwarded or replied to mail then tab to the OK button and use spacebar.

10. Use tab key or Shift+Tab until you find the OK button and use
spacebar. Do the same in any subsequent dialogs until you are back in your
message.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft word 2010

2014-03-31 Thread jim

Hi Mike:

Here is the easiest way I have learned to save a document in read only mode
in word 2010.

1. press Alt+f:
2. Arrow down to the Info tab and press enter.
3. Tab one time to protect document and press enter.
4. Press enter on mark as final.
5. Press enter to close dialog.
6. Press enter to close this second dialog message.
7. Press escape twice to go back to your read only document.

Now when you open up your document it is in read only mode, and when you
close it, no save dialog comes up, word just closes.

If there is a shorter way to do this please let me know...
thanks to all of you for your help...

Re: [JAWS-Users] how to be safe when shopping on line

2014-03-31 Thread Jim Pursley

Kathy

Always use a website with s in the url (https.www...). The S stands
for secure. Beyond that, I'd advise shopping only at reputable sites.
Looking for the cheapest prices can get one in trouble. Also, for what
it's worth, check on the reputation of the sites you visit. Your credit
card company may have a list of fraudulent sites, too. Finally, ex
librarian that I am, I'd suggest doing a google search for such terms as
internet shopping secure. You may find some great tips. You could also
go to www.consumerreports.org to see if they have a free article you can
read on the subject. The https designation should protect you from
hackers and the articles may offer more insight. Others on the list may
have much better suggestions beyond my simple ones.

accessibility. Having said that, over all, I've had good experience with
Plextor and Liteon dvd burners.

yes, it should do that for you and you probably have to use the 4.47
size and it will compress your dual-layer dvd's to a single layer dvd
which is what you purchase from the store. dual-layer dvd's are
available but are much more expensive than single layer dvd's
dual--layer dvd's are about 7.5 gb wher single are 4.47gb. i have
over 3000 movies that i have copied through out the years.

Hi,
In wind 7, in the system programs, I recognize a program called copy DVD
123.
I believe that will rip a copy to your PC.
Then, you can burn it out.
I have notplayed with this yet.

But, a couple years ago I did buy the program at BJ's for $25, but it was
not Jaws accessible and I needed visual help to run it
They gave you 3 installs, but their wasted already
If, anyone has use the program above, please add more because I'm
interested
myself with other opinions with the copy DVD 123 in the Wind 7
application?.

Thanks,
Jorge
