Re: [JAWS-Users] Adobe Digital Editions: JAWS doesn't see the screen content

2015-07-24 Thread Michael B.
Hi Harri,

Thank you very much for the update. For those that might not know where to
find this option, try the following:
1. Press, Insert + 6, on the number row above the main keyboard to open the
Settings Center for the application you are currently in, & if you want this
option turned off / on in all applications press, control, shift + D, to
open the Jaws Settings Center Default All Aplications.
2. Arrow down to, Text Processing, press right arrow to open.
3. Arrow down to, General, press right arrow to open.
4. Arrow down to, Enhanced Edit Support, press the spacebar to check /
uncheck this option.
5. If you make a change tab to, Apply, press the spacebar,, tab to, Okay,
press enter to save your changes & close.

Enhanced Edit Support Explained:
If you select this check box, JAWS provides enhanced support for edit and
rich edit areas. This feature allows for increased accuracy while reading
text in these areas. In addition, enhanced edit support allows JAWS to
recognize an extended selection of text attributes and better detect
languages automatically. However, you may experience reduced responsiveness
while using certain programs. This check box is selected by default.

HTH
Take care.

Problem solved. Enhanced Edit Support must be checked. I had it unchecked in
my default.jcf. I created DigitalEditions.jcf and checked it there. Now
Adobe Digital Editions works with JAWS 15.

I can open the sample ebook, "Getting started with Adobe Digital Editions
4.0", but there is nothing on the screen that JAWS can see. The only chance
to read something wit the JAWS cursor is to use OCR (Insert+Space o w). I can
tab through various buttons and my speech synthesizer speaks the button
texts. They are also visible on my Braille display. But JAWS 15 (or 16 as
well) doesn't see the book content. Insert+F says "No font" everywhere, even
in the Item info box (Ctrl+I).

A sighted person said that everything on the screen seems to bee OK. NVDA
seems to work quite well with ADE, so the problem has something to do with
JAWS, perhaps with its video intercept.

I have reinstalled video intercept. I also tried Adobe Digital Editions
version 3. But the problem is the same. I have changed Windows themes and
screen resolution — JAWS behaves always in the same way.

I have Windows 7 32 bit, JAWS 15.0.12085 and a demo version of JAWS 16 with
latest updates.

My display adapter is Intel G41 Express Chipset (WDDM).

Any ideas? What could I try next?

Hi,

I’m using a Focus 14 Blue with an iPhone, and its serial no. is 5.71, so has
itself been updated to take advantage of Power 123 feature. I also have it
already Bluetooth-paired with an iPhone, where it has worked previously (and
will work again, O think) with a laptop. Now, this PC is not itself
Bluetooth-enabled. Using JAWS16 on this PC. What do I do to make it accept
USB while iPhone accepts Bluetooth? So far, the 1-2-3-+power button doesn’t
change from one to the other, but rather from the one I’m using to the Focus
status line. I tried the suggestion of setting it up in Bluetooth on my PC,
but, thus far, it hasn’t worked. The PC is Windows7, and, as I said, does
not itself have Bluetooth (if that’s relevant)? While connected to USB the
display will read off the iPhone screen, or, the JAWS screen, but not
alternating with the power123 switch between one and the other. Do I need to
download the power123 firmware update, again, for this new computer? Even
though the display already has the firmware in it?

Hi

As was stated, only an administrator can change an account type. So log off of
your new profile and log on with your old administrator profile. Go to control
panel and user accounts. When you're logged on as an administrator, there will
be a link to manage another account. Select that link, then find and select
your new profile. Find and activate change account type and set it to
administrator. Now log off of your old profile and log on with your new
profile. Since you are now an administrator, you will see the manage another
account link. Choose that link, choose your old profile and then find and
choose delete account.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Back sate View in word 2010 and later

2015-07-24 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Brian,

You can have the traditional Open dialog box appear every time you use CTRL
with O by making a change in Word's options. I amusing Word 2013 but I
think the steps should be very similar in Word 2010. You might also want to
change CTRL with F to launch the traditional Find dialog box instead of the
navigation pane. I am including steps to do this after showing the steps
for getting CTRL with O to activate the Open dialog box by default. I don't
remember if changing the CTRL with F command to open the navigation pane
happened in Word 2010 or 2013 so I am including those steps in case you want
to make that change as well.

Bypassing Backstage View when Opening and Saving Documents

1. Use Alt+F followed by Alt+T to go into Word's options.
2. Use down arrow key in the categories list to the Save category or
just press the letter "S" to move there quickly.
3. Use tab key to the "Don't show the backstage when opening or saving
files" checkbox and if it is not checked use spacebar to check it.
4. Use tab key to the "Save to computer" checkbox and make sure it is
checked.
5. You can also change where documents and document templates are saved
by default in this tab of the options. Just use tab key to find the various
controls.
6. After changes are made tab to the OK button and press spacebar to
leave the Word options.

Using CTRL with F in the Traditional Manner

1.Use Alt with F followed by Alt with T to go into the Word
options.

2.In the list of categories either use down arrow or press the
letter C until you get to the "customize ribbon" category.

3.Press Alt with T to use the customize button. If this is
different in word 2010 then just tab to the customize button and press
spacebar.

4.Use down arrow until you get to the Home tab.

5.Tab to the commands list.

6.In the commands list press E until you find the "EditFind"
command.

7.Tab a couple times to the "press new shortcut key" box.

8.Press CTRL with F.

9.Tab to the Save Changes In box and choose Normal.DOTM.

10. Tab to the Assign button and press spacebar.

11. Tab to the Close button and use spacebar.

12. Tab to OK and use spacebar.

Take care.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Power 1 2 3 on a 'new' computer?

2015-07-24 Thread Sharon Gosling
Just a thought. Kim Komando recommends using a standard user profile for
your regular one. It is safer since no software can be slipped onto your PC
since doing so requires the administrator password to be entered. This is
much safer than using an administrative profile for your regular work.
I am a super cautious computer user and have both Vipre and Webroot
Security on my Win 7 laptop. Another tip of hers I followed is to turn off
Flash in IE and Firefox. Flash has to request permission to run and it is
very seldom necessary.

Hi Kevin,

If you are running Windows 8.1, tAdding a enew user has to be done by
selecting Settings from the charms bar, then Change PC Settings. Now select
Accounts, and then Other Accounts. Select Add and follow the prompts to
create your new account.

To make the new account the administrator, highlight the account name, and
change the account type from the account type drop down menu.

To remove the old account, highlight the account that you want to remove,
then tab around until you find the Remove button and click this.

All of these steps are done from the Other Accounts window found through the
settings charm as described above. If you have any other questions, just
post them, hth.

In Microsoft of old, 2003 and such, the open dialog allowed you to move
to a list view of all your documents.
Can we in2010 versions of word, get something similar from that open back
stage view that comes up when you press control-o?
All the best, Brian

What is JAVA? Sometimes, when I'm on a site, I'm told that the script is
slowing my computer (didn't have to be told that one), do I want to stop it, I
always say yes.

That happens mostly in Dow Jones, and lately, I have been having trouble with
the Dow Jones site. It's like it would hang my computer up, and we'd just have
to turn it off at the tower - two days in a row, so now, it's bye bye Dow
Jones, into Recycle it went!

Best to you from,

Carolyn

Hi,

Yes, I have exactly the same issue, I enable the JAVA Access Bridge and go to
the JAVA console in control panel and nothing is spoken making it impossible to
add a trusted site.
I tried searching the web for an alternative way to do this e.g. adding a
registry setting but had no luck.
There is a file that the trusted sites are listed in but I can't figure out how
you edit it.

I believe you need to install the java access bridge to access the java
console. The access bridge is included in the latest version of java but it
needs to be turned on. I have not done this myself for a long time and I do
not recall all the details. You can google it or maybe some one on the list

I have a web site that JAVA is blocking, I need to add it to the acceptions

You are supposed to be able to go the control panel in Windows 7/8 and then to
java and security where you can add a trusted site.
Unfortunately, when I go in to the JAVA control panel, JAWS won't read
anything, is there any way to get around this?
I have tried searching on the web and creating an exception.site file in what
would appear to be the correct folder but MSIE11 is still blocking this site.

Any help would be much appreciated.
