[JAWS-Users] Jaws in tray now What?
I went to jaws and pressed alt, O for options and then I went to basics then I checked the box to run jaws from the system tray. Now I don’t know how to get jaws back so I can press alt, O to go to options again. And by the way, when I look in the system tray jaws is not listed there? So, how do I call jaws? I thought that if I pressed the jaws key and the letter, J, that would call jaws back up. But, no, that doesn’t work. Thanks for the heads up on this question. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws in tray now What?
Hi LeDon, Did you restart Jaws or your computer after telling Jaws to run from the system tray? If not, try that, & if that doesn't put Jaws in the system tray below are several steps on how to make items show in the system tray. Yes the keystroke, insert / Jaws key + J, should open Jaws options. From: CrisM To get the icons to show up in the system tray, go to your desktop, tab down three times till you land on Notifications or something, then press the applications key and press enter on the customize notifications icon option. From there, you'll be able to move and and select which icons you want to appear in the system tray. I had this same issue and someone on here suggested this solution to me and it worked. Cris From: Rick Justice Open the start menu, and type the following in the search box: notification In the results, you should find, notification area icons, make sure that this is selected, and press enter. When the dialogue opens, you will probably hear Jaws say, okay button, so just tab until you get into the list of applications. Each time you tab, you will be on a different application, and using the up and down arrows will select the behavior of that icon. When you have finished making your changes, simply tab to the okay button, and press enter to close the dialogue. HTH, Rick Justice From: Brian Lee You might have figured it out already, but if not, here is what you can do in Windows 7. After setting JAWS to start in the system tray, move to the notification area using Windows key + B. Find the Notification Chevron button and press spacebar on it. Use up arrow key to the Customize choice and press enter key. If focus moves away from the notification area while using up or down arrow key, move back to it using Windows key + B, and if necessary use the chevron button again. After using the Customize button, use tab key several times until you find "Application file for JAWS." As you tab across the window, you will find combo boxes for various programs. Each combo box has three choices. In the combo box for the application file for JAWS, use the up arrow key until the choice for showing JAWS in the notification area is in focus. Tab to the OK button and press spacebar. The JAWS icon should now be in the notification area. Take care. Brian Lee Take care. Mike Global warming? Agree. The accessibility wizard should have an option to open the pdf in the browser or not. not in my experience is better. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws in tray now What?
Hi When JAWS is running from the system tray, when you're using the desktop keyboard layout, pressing JAWSkey+j will bring up the JAWS menus. But in the laptop keyboard layout, where CapsLock is usually the JAWSkey, pressing JAWSkey+j will move back to the prior word instead of bringing up the JAWS menus. You can use insert+j to bring up the JAWS menus no matter which keyboard layout you're using, even though pressing those 2 keys together can be awkward on some computers. Also in the laptop keyboard layout pressing control+shift+CapsLock+j will bring up the JAWS menus. When you change the run JAWS from the system tray setting, JAWS must be restarted before it takes effect. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of LeDon Becker Sent: Wednesday, February 10, 2016 10:30 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws in tray now What? For some reason, this option was moved in DC, as follows: In Adobe Reader, go to the Edit menu (alt-e) and arrow up to the Accessibility submenu. Select Set-up Assistant. On page 5 of 5, the last page, of the Set-up Assistant is a check box labeled "Display PDF documents in the web browser." It should be unchecked so that the web page is processed directly by Adobe Reader. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Cher Bosch Sent: Wednesday, February 10, 2016 10:46 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] [Bulk] Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Does DC have the option to uncheck 'open in browser'? Re: [JAWS-Users] Adobe Acrobat Reader DC
Do you have an Adobe icon on your desktop. You don't need to be in a pdf to make the necessary changes. If you do not have the Adobe desktop icon, search Adobe pdf or Adobe BC in Windows Search. Once you have a blank Adobe screen, go to it with the set up assistant. On 2/10/2016 6:53 PM, Alan Robbins wrote: Scorpio, Thanks for the suggestion but I cannot get to the file menu to save a copy. [JAWS-Users] Accidentally enabled the Jaws Touch features on my desktop
Hello list, So while typing away doing this and that on my business desktop, I must have been too fast and sloppy because now, I seem to have enabled some sort of touch mode for a tablet PC and Jaws. Naturally, the famous search for command feature that was introduced in one of the recent Jaws updates isnt giving me any results no matter what I type. Poking around the Jaws help files isnt giving me anything either. I have to imagine its a toggle keystroke, but so far, I havent found it. The closeest Ive come to is insert+shift+semi-colin for the touch cursor which doesnt get me out of this mode. Im banging out this email on my personal laptop, but I need to be able to work with my business machine. I thought Id shoot an email to folks with more experience with the touch interface of Jaws while I continue my search for a solution.
