Re: [JAWS-Users] outlook 2016
Which JAWS version are you using? I experienced this problem (and worse) with JAWS 16 and early releases of 17, but not with IE, as I don't use IE. However, Adobe Reader (if I switched to another application while using it) and Microsoft Outlook were definite causes. The bug must have been found and fixed, as it disappeared after a JAWS 17 update. The cause of your difficulty may be different, however. [JAWS-Users] Question on the latest Jaws update.
HI Everyone, I am using Jaws 17 latest build and W10 with Outlook 2010. When I type an email message Jaws start slowing down in announcing my letters and also start skipping. Then after I keep typing it stop announcing all together. If I alt+tab to another document Jaws announces fine. Then if I tab back to an email message that I was typing it does not do anything. If I closed Jaws and open it again it will start announcing again but after typing for a few minutes it starts pausing and skipping again then finally stop announcing. Has anyone else been having this issue with the latest build of Jaws 17. Just for your info I loaded Jaws 16 and it did the same thing on that email message I was typing on. It does not do this on every email I type. Any Ideas? Ed For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Subash: Thanks for the support. ... I really do appreciate it. As I hope everyone on this list knows, I'm typically not a complainer. But, when I see something like this issue I'm experiencing with Outlook 2016, and when I get the "not sure what we can really do about it" reaction from FS tech support, it raises concerns in my mind about claims that are made about Jaws compatibility with the involved Microsoft Office products. At the same time, though, I have to be honest. Given the money we have to pay FS for the Jaws screen reading software, it does not seem as though we should be having this problem. The laptop on which I have office 365 is a business-grade laptop with 16 gigs of RAM, which means there should be plenty of resources to accommodate Jaws and whatever else needs to run when I'm using Outlook. As we also know, Outlook is an extremely popular e-mail client, so when compatibility with Windows 7 is claimed, I feel it is reasonable to expect that it should run reasonably well. I also am troubled by the "not sure if there is anything we can do about it" response that I seem to have gotten from FS at least so far. Hi Cher, As Kimber has said the shortcut doesn't work on the view and track your downloads. Now you say I might want to change my windows-sounds. I click alt n and save my file. I click alt n and I click view downloads. I alt tab and click control w to close the website which I originally visited to download my file. I minimize the window that shows the download and it's progress. I brouse through email and I decide to go back to the internet to search for something. Here's the problem. I go to the task bar and now internet explorer isn't there, it's replaced by the window that's downloading, how can I open a new tab in internet explorer? I tried to access some sort of file tab to find an option to open a new tab but no such luck. Any ideas? I hope I've explained my situation properly, and I hope I haven't confused you guys too much. [JAWS-Users] No Separate Volume Controls Any More?
This question is prompted by the discussion of the sounds from web sites that can't be turned down. I have not gotten very far in setting up my new Windows 10 computer, due to the intervention of my non-computer life. I have noticed that the separate volume controls were there, but didn't seem to be controlling things separately, I just figured that I didn't know how to do it yet. On this vista computer, I can open volume mixer and control separate volume controls for internet explorer, jaws, etc. You mean I can't do that in Windows 10? When did that ability go away? Can sighted users do it, just not those who use screen readers? If I no longer have access to these separate volume controls from within the volume mixer, I consider that to be a major leap backward. Thanks in advance, I think, for any information. Arnold Schmidt For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
[JAWS-Users] Windows Mail in Windows 10
I have been told by several people that Windows Mail does not work with jaws in Windows 10, but have found a few that says it does. When I googled something like using windows mail in windows 10 with a screen reader, I found directions for using it with Narrator. I would think that if it works with Narrator, it would work with Jaws. Is anybody using it successfully? Thanks in advance for any information. Re: [JAWS-Users] outlook 2016
Hi Tom, I absolutely agree with you re not aught to be having such issues with FS and outlook 2016. I wish I had it to play around with to see if I could come up with any solution, but I'm using the windows live mail client. And that computer with 16 gb of ram really shouldn't be having any issues running a program like outlook. I hope when you get the laptop back the problem is rectify. Thanks. -Original Message- From: Tom Behler Sent: Friday, June 10, 2016 5:18 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] outlook 2016 Subash: Unfortunately, I do not have NVDA here, although I'm tempted to acquire and learn how to use it for just these situations. Still and all, I'll keep trying to troubleshoot the issue when I get the laptop back from my University's I T department early next week. I'm sure glad I have this older Windows 7 desktop with office 2010 to use as a backup! Do either of you have NVDA? If yes, have you try loading it to see if it would read better? My reason for asking, sometimes while using I E, with win7 pro with JAWS 15, it would not say anything, but when I load NVDA it would read. Sometimes JAWS would start to talk as well... It's a good thing I have the peview program to turn off one of the synthesizers so I don't have both NVDA and JAWS trying to talk at the same time. -Original Message- From: Kimsan Sent: Friday, June 10, 2016 11:38 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] outlook 2016 I experience the same as it relates to the computer being unusable. In fact, it sometimes gets to the point where my computer becomes unusable. It appears that something is running in the back-ground, conflicting with Jaws, but so far the culprit has not been found. I'm using a locally-installed version of Office 365 containing Outlook 2016. I have contacted Freedom Scientific several times about this issue, and they are at a loss as to what to do to solve it. The only things they advised me to try were a Jaws type repair (which didn't help), and to eliminate all add ons if possible, which also didn't help. I also contacted the Microsoft Accessibility hotline, and their only solution was to defrag my hard drive. (sigh) The laptop which has this problem is a Windows 7 laptop, using Jaws 17.0.2007. That laptop is currently with my University's I T department for some other maintenance work, so when I get it back next week, I will try tackling the issue again. I would appreciate any suggestions from anyone else who has experienced this problem. I did not experience the problem at all with Outlook 2010 in Office 2010. Does anyone experience sluggishness with outlook 2016? I could be replying to an email and it would hmm, not freeze but lag, as in take for ever for jaws to notify me I'm in the edit field, and I can't even up or down arrow. That's just one example. I also experience jaws not reading text when reviewing my message, as it takes a couple of seconds to read the line or character. I'm using the latest build of jaws 17 on windows 10 if that matters. Re: [JAWS-Users] [Bulk] Re: help with internet explorer on task bar
Hi Zoe, I'm reposting my previous reply - maybe you missed it. If the only window or tab which Internet Explorer has open is the Downloads window, then if you move to that button on the taskbar and press Shift + Enter, a new instance of internet explorer opens. For more info about the taskbar buttons on Windows 10, see the taskbar buttons section of this guide: http://vip.chowo.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/jaws/Taskbar-10-Guide.html David. original message: Hi guys, when I'm downloading from a website, I usually close the internet page after I have chosen view and track your downloads. I only do this when I no longer want to surf the net and I'm just waiting for my download to finish. Regardless of my reasons, isn't it strange that I can't open internet explorer if the view and track your download page is running? In windows 7 I did not have this problem, I could have 10 tabs open including the above mentioned window and they were all individual and the shortcut on the desk top remained internet explorer and I could access it at any time. Having said that with windows 10 I don't have a shortcut on the desk top, it's located in the task bar. If I have a page open such as google.com I can bring that page up from the task bar and hit the shortcut to open a new tab, but as I said above that isn't possible with the view and track your download page.
