Re: [JAWS-Users] checkboxes in word

2016-06-30 Thread Kimsan
I just did that and the only thing it displayed was a hyper link.

I'm hoping to figure out how to check these boxes as social security will
send more word documents like these in the future.

Thank you.

Kimsan, although I don't have 2016,the following is claimed to work in
2013 and perhaps 2010, and might work in 2016 as well:

One way you can do this is to use JAWS key with F5 to list fields and press
enter on the one you want to move to in the form.
Press the application key (or shift+f10) and look for Properties in the
contextual menu. If you open properties there is a group of a couple radio
buttons for choosing between whether the checkbox is checked or unchecked.
Just move to the appropriate radio button and then use OK.

Hi,

I'm filling out a form that is in word. It asks me a question where I must
check an item. How do I check the item?

I'm using jaws 17 and word 2016.

Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and freeDots

2016-06-30 Thread Adrian Spratt
These .xml files are proving to be a nightmare. I believe you'll find the
default association is Internet Explorer, which makes little sense for the
types of file you're using, any more than it does for the files I am. In my
case, a certain supposedly tech-savvy organization disseminates .xml files as
text documents, but IE can't read them. I succeeded in changing the file
association to MS Word, which partially solved my problem, even though the
original format is lost. I spoke to FS about it last week, and the tech support
guy sounded doubtful that JAWS can read .xml files at all.

Try changing the file association. With any luck, you'll pair the file type
with an application that works well for your purposes. I don't know which OS
you have. In Win7, go to the Windows edit field, start typing file association,
and a list will appear. You want the one under "control panel."

Re: [JAWS-Users] How to adjust keyboard options in latest Jaws 17

2016-06-30 Thread Adrian Spratt
Let me reinforce what both Mike and Maria have said. Windows Update has
suddenly become unpredictable, and I also had an inexplicable experience with
the character/word key echo feature. Regarding Mike's suggestion for Windows
Update, mine is different, but I'd follow his recommendation. Regarding key
echo, I found, as Maria posted, that I had to change the setting in the
insert-v JAWS quick settings for every application I run. I also made the
change Mike described in the insert-6 JAWS settings center, but although it may
have confirmed my insert-v settings, it wasn't enough.

I'd try to resolve these issues before returning your computer. I'd also keep
in mind that the holiday weekend is upon us, so tomorrow will be the last day
in four that FS will take you call.

Something else you might try is using quick settings with insert v,
going to editing options and choosing character echo. You'd have to do
this with each program if it works.

Re: [JAWS-Users] How to adjust keyboard options in latest Jaws 17

2016-06-30 Thread Greg Washington
Mike,
As always, thanks so much for your response. I'm thinking I will return
this computer to Amazon since it also does not seem to be able to update
windows. When I click on check for updates it stays at 0 until it times
out. Also it reports it has never updated.
Best,
Greg

Hi Greg,

Try the following:
1. Press, Insert / Jaws key + 6, on the number row to open the Settings
Center, & press, control, shift + D, to open Settings Center default all
applications.
2. Arrow down to, User closed, & press right arrow to open.
3. Arrow down to, Typing Echo, & press the spacebar to toggle through the
options, stopping on, characters.
4. Tab to, Okay, press enter to save your change, & close.
Take care.

Rick,
Thanks for the suggestion but it didn't solve my problem. The notebook has
a dedicated AMD graphics card and I'm wondering if that is causing the
problem. I have emailed FS support.

Use Jaws key + 1 on the number row, to identify Jaws keystrokes.
It's called keyboard help.
The keystroke you are looking for is, Jaws key + 2 on the number row.

Something else you might try is using quick settings with insert v,
going to editing options and choosing character echo. You'd have to do
this with each program if it works.

[JAWS-Users] How To Save And Import Contacts Lists In Outlook 2016

2016-06-30 Thread Tom Behler
Hello, everyone.

In the process of re-installing Office 365 and Outlook 2016 to work with my
g-mail account on a Windows 7 laptop, my g-mail contacts list has been lost.

Fortunately for me, I have the completely updated g-mail contacts list on an
older Windows 7 desktop which I also use for home office work.

Can someone give me a set of instructions for saving, and then importing
that g-mail contacts list from the older PC to the new laptop?

I have some older instructions here for Office 2010, but am not sure how
well they would work with Outlook 2016 and Office 365.

Thank you!

Dr. Tom Behler from Michigan

That works temporarily, but to make it permanent there's probably a

Kimsan, although I don't have 2016,the following is claimed to work in
2013 and perhaps 2010, and might work in 2016 as well:

One way you can do this is to use JAWS key with F5 to list fields and
press enter on the one you want to move to in the form.
Press the application key (or shift+f10) and look for Properties in the
contextual menu. If you open properties there is a group of a couple
radio buttons for choosing between whether the checkbox is checked or
unchecked. Just move to the appropriate radio button and then use OK.

[JAWS-Users] Microsoft Outlook 2016 instability

2016-06-30 Thread Jason White
Have others experienced the following with the latest version of JAWS 17 and
an up to date installation of Windows 10 and Outlook 2016?

Outlook unpredictably crashes while composing messages. Sometimes, JAWS slows
down while reading text shortly before the crash.

Event Viewer shows that the crashes are occurring in outlook.exe, and more
specifically in ucrt.dll (the C runtime library).

(Look under Event Viewer -> Windows Logs -> Application for those details).

Hello Ed,
The starting point is, My Documents.
The folder and file are located in, My Documents.
I do the following steps with the file in question, closed.

I can follow these steps from any folder located in, My Documents.
Not sure how you can find the,, Edit tab.
It may be hidden somewhere.
Try the following steps with the file, closed.

I am using Windows 7 home, with Office 2010.
Here's what I do.
Press on, Alt.
Arrow right to, Edit.
Arrow down to, Move to folder.
Press on, Enter, to select.
Find the folder you want to move the file to.
Press, Enter, when you find it.

It's possible you guys are discussing something more complicated.

Same idea, different way of getting there. With this method, there's a fair
amount of arrowing and tabbing. Using the F12 (save as" method, you simply
type the path and filename. No need to go hunting for the folder name.
