Re: [JAWS-Users] 1 keyboard and 2 computers

2016-09-22 Thread Mr. Ed
Hi Fred,
I hooked mine up with my wife's assistance. I told her where all the wires
hook up to. The KVM switch will come with two wires coming out of it. On
each branch of wires is a VGA, two USB and one RCA audio speaker and one RCA
mic which you will plug into each desktop. Then you plug your Monitor's VGA
plug into the KVM switch. Then plug your keyboard and mouse USB into the
switch. Then plug your RCA speaker audio plug and your RCA Mic plug into the
KVM switch. I do not have a microphone RCA plug you don't have to plug one
in if you don't have one.

If you need any other assistance email me and I will provide you with my
phone number. You can also email me on the River group or the windows 10 and
Jaws group to get my phone number and email address. I don't want to put
them on the Jaws list.

Ed

Mister Ed, the link is fine. Is this equipment something that the average
blind person can set up or is sighted assistance needed?I plan to order the
equipment and I need a new computer desk so I will wait until I get the desk
before setting up the Iogear equipment.

Hi Fred,
The KVM switch I have is a different number then the one I am going to give

want is a IOGear GSC72U. Below is the link for it on Amazon. Price is 21
bucks. If this link is not correct or does not work for you let me know.

Hi Fred,
I have a KVM switch which allows me to use one mouse, one key board, one
monitor, and one set of speakers and have them connected to two computers.
All I have to do is push one button to switch from one computer to the other
one. I have had it for many years and it workds very well. I think the cost
of KVM switch cost around 20 to 30 bucks. It had all the wires on it to
connect to two computers. You just plug your mouse, monitor, keyboard and
speakers in to the switch. If you want to know the brand I have let me know
and I will have my wife look at it and tell you what brand it is.
I hope this helps.
You can have both computers on and then switch between them. I have been on
the phone with Microsoft Disability Line and had them on both computers at
the same time. I told the guy he can do that and he tried it. So he fix both
my computers at the same time and I was able to just hit the switch and go
back and forth between both computers.

Hi Fred,

Yes, it can be setup without sighted help. Just be careful when you're
hooking up your monitor cables so you don't bend any pins. The rest of the
cables are USB & speaker / soundcard plugs. If it will make you feel more
comfortable, you can contact me off list, & I'll do what I can to walk you
through getting it all connected.
Take care.

2016-09-22 Thread John Fitzgerald
Ransome ware is malware that can encrypt all of your files, and the only way
to get them unencrypted is to get the encryption code from somewhere. The
hackers hope that you will pay them for the code. My wife's laptop was
encrypted by ransome ware, and I am still hoping to find an encryption code
to unencrypt her machine. Unfortunately the No More Ransome Project website
didn't have the key for her ransome ware.

WOW! Sounds like what my trusting mom experienced a few weeks ago.

Since she didn't have anything installed on the laptop worth keeping I
instructed her on how to factory reset the Dell Laptop (Her situation was a
lot worse than yours.) They were trying to get $75 out of my mom and she
hung up the phone LOL!

Ransomeware is definitely the scourge of the web. You were very very lucky
they didn't encrypt all of your files forcing you to deal with them.

Next time you get one of those persistent alert boxes while surfing a site,
it's best you never click on any button. Try hitting [Ctrl]+[Shift]+[Escape]
to bring up the Windows Tasks manager. Locate the name process in the list
of running tasks and select [End Task] button to close/stop it.

Then disconnect your PC and run a full virus scan. Afterwards, use
Piriform's CCleaner program to stop any leftover malware/ran some modules
from loading at startup (have this installed before hand.)

https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download

Also use CCleaner to completely clean all of your browser's cache and
unneeded temp files.

Always reboot your PC after performing any checks. Pay attention to the
System Tray (Area next to the clock) after each restart for any unfamiliar
programs which you didn't install willingly.

If you notice any, bring up the Windows Programs and Features manager and
start uninstalling them.

The faster you are at killing the tasks and disconnecting your PC from the
web, the better your chances are in dealing with the infection rather
easily. The key is never never click on any button to close the alert popup.

My motto is that if they used illegal means to draw me in, then use common
sense not to stay in.

Glad everything worked out for you.

Hi Everyone,

I am putting this info out so that you can recognize some of the signs and
hopefully prevent someone from being taken, and I apologize in advance if
this doesn't meet the strict guidelines for the list.

My computer started acting weird a couple of days ago, it popped up saying
the magic and jaws were installed incorrectly and the they were now running
in forty minute mode. I did a complete shutdown and restart which seemed to
solve the problem. The first time it occurred I thought it was just a
glitch.

The next morning when I restarted my computer the exact same thing occurred,
and a restart solved the issue again. The third morning I had no issues
after starting the computer for the day. While checking my email I went to
the classmates.com website to get the particulars on my 40th high school
reunion, I clicked on a link there to see a message from a classmate, which
brought up a popup stating that my computer was infected and that I needed
to call this 888 toll free number. I tried to close the popup but it
wouldn't close, then I tried to close firefox and it wouldn't respond
either.

So, I called the toll free number and got someone who spoed very poor
English, I asked him who he was with and he told me Microsoft technical
support. I asked him once again and was told the t=same thing. He had me
open the run box and put in hh space h and ftell him what was on the window,
then he had me find and connect to ? (forgot this one). At which time he
had full access to my computer. At this point he was telling me everything
that I needed to do to prevent malware/ransome ware, then he launched into
a sales pitch for three different levels of protection and he was going to
hand me off to a technician.

At this point the light came on, and I said " So let me see if I understand
this correctly, you put ransome ware on my computer, and now in order to get
it fixed you are pumping me for God knows how much money?", at this point
he muted his phone, and I attempted to shutdowm my computer, but it didn't
respond. I tried a second shutdown and still no response, so I did a hard
shutdown (held the power button down for approximately 6 seconds). Then I
pulled my Ethernet cable.

At this point I thought I was in deep excrement. I then called the company
who did the AT build on this computer, I talked with a tech support guy who,
said "Oh my, is the computer on now?. He worked me through giving him
access to my computer with the sighted assistance of one of my
granddaughtrs, then he got my jaws and magic programs going again, checked
to see what damage had been done, checked to see if funning the windows
updates was ok with me,

Re: [JAWS-Users] Firefox Issues, was Jaws Issues and More

2016-09-22 Thread Steve
You don't need Boundless. What you need is boundless common sense, which
obviously was sorely lacking in the case you describe.

On the issue of Firefox, also, I noticed in the past two weeks, that I
received pop-up notifications to install "an urgent update" for firefox. If
you look at the url they want to have you run, you will discover it is not
in any way connected with Mozilla.

Doing a search on Google will show other people afflicted with this issue in
some of the Mozilla forums.

So, people, use your Jaws command insert-pagedown when you are focused on a
link to see the url it is pointed to. Don't click on any pop-ups that come
up.

Hi Everyone,

Hi Fred,
I have a KVM switch which allows me to use one mouse, one key board, one
monitor, and one set of speakers and have them connected to two computers.

Lotus notes with jaws. Is Lotus accessible with jaws.

Many thanks,

It is doable if the keyboards are hard wired. For years I controlled two
computers with the same keyboard mouse and monitor. There was a switch that
the cables went to each computer and the keyboard etc was also connected.
There was an a/b switch to select what computer you wanted to access. That
setup was for my work computer and home computer.

You're welcome, in my case I only have 1 computer on this desk but as
friends and family often bring me systems to work on it became something of
a need to obtain a KVM switch. They actually believe I fix their respective
systems, the silly fools. I tell them it is all done with mirrors.

As others have stated you need a KVM switch with audio support. Not all of
them have the audio support feature if memory serves so make sure the model
you pick has that capability. Mine was around $30 that controls 2 systems. I
have had it for quite a few years already, and just so you know there are
KVM switches that control up to 8 systems or possibly more but they get
really expensive.

Hi Fred,
I have a KVM switch which allows me to use one mouse, one key board, one
monitor, and one set of speakers and have them connected to two computers.
Ed
