As far as I know, a demo version is a fully functioning version of Jaws, the
only limit is the forty minute mode, but other than that, you should be able
to change the settings, save those changes and the like and continue using
it in forty minute mode until you get the unlock code.

[JAWS-Users] Demo Version of Jaws was turn off function keys?

2017-05-17 Thread Scorpio
As far as I know, a demo version is a fully functioning version of Jaws, the
only limit is the forty minute mode, but other than that, you should be able
to change the settings, save those changes and the like and continue using
it in forty minute mode until you get the unlock code.

i am still waiting for the unlock key.
but if these options do not work as a demo it does not give me any messages
that it is not supported. the changes show they have been saved. but the
muted
keys still talk as a standard user. but not logged in as administrator,
which i
do not want to do because of viruses.

well i got it working so far.
this is not for the average user. grin
i renamed the freedom scientific folder in the standard user account and copied
the same folder name from my administrator to the standard user folder and i
can now make the key label changes logged in as a standard user.
if it messes up something i can delete the folder and rename the original
folder back again.

Hi Tom,
The touch cursor memics using your finger on a touch screen, only you use the
keyboard on your computer to accomplish the same thing. When you turn on the
touch cursor, the right arrow is like swiping your finger to the right on a
touch screen. You do not need a touch screen on your computer for this to work.
Using the touch cursor and your arrow keys, allows you to access many controls
that you cannot ever get to with the PC cursor or the JAWS cursor. You can
press your arrow keys, and access the buttons on the toolbars of MS word, for
example. The touch cursor does not show up in JAWS until version 15.
Have a great one.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Using the touch-cursor in JAWS.

2017-05-17 Thread David Moore
Hi Tom,
The touch cursor memics using your finger on a touch screen, only you use the
keyboard on your computer to accomplish the same thing.

Hello,
THe laptop keystroke is:
capslock plus shift plus semicolon to enable it.
To disable it:
either press caps lock plus semicolon twice or capslock plus apostrophe twice.
I can’t remember which it is off the top of my head.

Re: [JAWS-Users] New computer, Creators update

2017-05-17 Thread David Moore
Wow, Jim,
That sounds like a great computer. I have never heard of a Hard drive and a SSD
drive working together. Is Windows on the harddrive, but then the SSD drive
allows Windows to load faster?
Does anything permantly stay on the SSD drive, or is it just a dump drive to
allow processes to occur faster? Wow, sounds great. I have just a SSD drive on
this little HP laptop I use, and I love it. When I use my other laptop with the
Regular Hard drive, I get so impatient, because it takes so much longer for
processes to occur. I am so happy for you!

Good evening Jaws users group. I have a new computer I wanted to let you know
about. At first, I was not sure how Jaws would work with a hybrid drive. But
Jaws 18 works fantastic with one. I finally upgraded the new computer today to
the creators update. Read the computer information below, before now I always
used an Acer computer. But this Lenovo start fast. After pressing the power
button in about 4 or 5 seconds, Jaws comes up talking on the pin log-in screen.
I bought this desktop on sale at best buy for $579, this was a bargan.
Name: Lenovo-710-25ISH Desktop (ideacentre)
System
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6400 CPU @ 2.70GHz 2.71 GHz
Installed memory (RAM): 8.00 GB
System type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor
This has a one TB of storage, regular Sodda drive.
This also has a 8 GB's SSD drive.
They call it a hybred drive.
Having the SSD drive allows for fast start up, very fast.
They work together, when doing a big task, information is dumped to the SSD
drive, and than converted back to the regular drive.
This is the best way I can explain it.
The computer works fantastic and the computer is very quick.
I highly recommend this computer to anyone who is looking for a new computer.

I tried Clifford's suggestion of turning off the virtual cursor, but still
no joy. And yes, there are situations where I've had better results than
Firefox, but not this time. Nate, I wondered how well NVDA works with IE as
opposed to Edge. I've used it briefly after upgrading to Windows 10 but not
enough to be really comfortable with it yet. i'll have a play with this some
other time, but today ultimately decided that a phone order was easier and
quicker, lol, so mission accomplished but still puzzled. Thanks to you both
for your responses.

[JAWS-Users] Dreamweaver CS6 and Jaws16

2017-05-17 Thread Teresa Arroyo Llosa
Hello all,

I am following a course on Dreamweaver CS6 and I am finding thathe program
isn’t very accessible with Jaws. For example, I am doing an excersice where I
need to do a bulleted list. For this, I must go to propeties and press the html
button, yet I can’t acces such pane (Dreamweaver has a pane with buttons that I
can’t access). I can’t even navigate panes with F6.

Now, there is a layout tab in the ribbons where lists is presented as a menu.
In that menu there is a ‘properties...’, but is is in gray (unavailable), and
next is a ‘none checked’ (I can’t uncheck it).

Does any one know how to work it around? Are there any jaws scripts to make
Dreamweaver CS6 more accessible with Jaws?

Thank you in advance.

Regards,

Teresa Arroyo Llosa

like when it says escape, alt f4, enter , page up or down etc. without
turning off the rest of the keys?

Hi Fred,
In the latest version of Windows 10, Windows Defender is enabled and running
by default.
If you wish to look at the settings, look for:
Windows Defender Security Center
 in the start menu.

First go to the settings center. Then press Ctrl+shift+D to open the default
settings.
Then type "manage key labels" in the search field.
Then tab to that list choice and press the spacebar to activate.
Then Ctrl+tab to the dialog. Here you find a list of several spoken and
unspoken keystrokes.
Arrow to the function keys (or press the letter f until you reach them).
For each key you want to mute, press Alt+t and it should then indicate mute.
When completed, tab to okay.
Then Ctrl+tab to go back to the settings dialog and tab to okay.
Press enter.

Hi,
I suggest calling VFO first, then let's think about getting your Windows 10
updated. But to make sure you're running the version you think you've got,
can you try the following for me:
1. Open Start menu.
2. Type "winver" (without quotes) and press ENTER.
3. Note down the build number you got and reply to me with this information.
In the meantime, I'll forward this query to a list that deals with Windows
10.
Cheers,
Joseph

Hi Joseph,

That was a great idea for troubleshooting! Narrator worked correctly. When I
would come to a menu with a submenu it would say "menu collapsed," and I
could open, review the options and close it normally. So it does seem to be
a JAWS issue. I looked through the setting center hoping to find something
that might help and no luck! Do you have any other ideas? I see two choices
at this point, I call VFO for JAWS help, or I try to solve my problem I have
with updating windows, and get Windows 10 updated.

Thanks for the help!

Hi,
What happens if you use Narrator and try to access menus with submenus? If
you can navigate back to a parent menu, chances are that it might be
something to do with JAWS.

Yes, it is all menus with submenus. Of course, ribbons seem to work fine.

I called it Windows 10 2015 because I couldn't remember what the first
version of windows 10 was called (smile) I have tried to update, but that is
another story I am working on. But if updating would solve this problem, I
will work harder on the story. It is really inconvenient not to be able to
get out of submenus that you don't want to be within in the first place.

Thanks!

Hello,

I am running Windows 10, the 2015 version, on a 64-bit Dell computer with
JAWS 17 and 18. The problem only happens in menus with submenus. When I am
arrowing through a menu that has submenus, I get stuck in the submenu. I
have a tough time getting out of the submenu and getting back to the main
menu. For example, If I go to the JAWS 18 icon on my desktop and press
enter, because the tandem item has a submenu it automatically opens and I
see "allow access to my computer ." and if I arrow down I see "get access to
a computer." If I arrow down again, I go back to "allow access to my
computer ." I have tried both left arrow and backspace to get out of
submenus, but they don't work. Escape just takes me out of the menu system
altogether. (I feel like that 1969 song "You got me going in circles" by
Friends of Distinction. Yikes! My age is showing.)

I have looked on the Freedom Scientific site and tried googling for an
answer, but this is a weird situation and difficult to describe for google.
Any ideas? Do I have something set incorrectly in Windows 10? Do keyboards
have drivers? I have looked on the Dell site for drivers with no luck. (My
search on Dell site just shows me a ton of keyboards I could buy.)

Any help will be greatly appreciated! Have fun!

Re: [JAWS-Users] getting stuck in submenus in Windows 10

2017-05-17 Thread Debby

Cheers,
Joseph

Yes, it is all menus with submenus. Of course, ribbons seem to work fine.

I called it Windows 10 2015 because I couldn't remember what the first
version of windows 10 was called (smile) I have tried to update, but that is
another story I am working on. But if updating would solve this problem, I
will work harder on the story. It is really inconvenient not to be able to
get out of submenus that you don't want to be within in the first place.

Thanks!

Control, Shift + D, to open Settings Center Default All Applications.
2. Arrow down to, Keyboard, & press right arrow to open.
3. Arrow down to, Manage Key Labels, & press the spacebar to open.

I tried Clifford's suggestion of turning off the virtual cursor, but
still no joy. And yes, there are situations where I've had better

NVDA works with IE as opposed to Edge. I've used it briefly after
upgrading to Windows 10 but not enough to be really comfortable with
it yet. i'll have a play with this some other time, but today
ultimately decided that a phone order was easier and quicker, lol, so
mission accomplished but still puzzled. Thanks to you both for your
responses.
