I am eligible for an upgrade and there's a link that says pay for upgrade
and SMA online. But clicking on the link there's no place to pay. It
just shows the list of available products and their prices. I have Jaws
home edition but I don't see an option to get this at my reduced rate
instead of the $900 price. Can someone help?

Hey everyone.

I'm looking at finally building a website. Just wondering what tools
everyone out there uses? I had some success with EZHTML in the past, I
think, but that's a really old programme and I never did put most of that
stuff up on the web. My girlfriend has a licensed copy of Ewisoft Website
Builder. It doesn't really seem like a great piece of software, from the
little I've examined, but has anyone worked with it before? Just looking for
a few tips to really get started.

Thanks.

2017-09-01 Thread Fernando Gregoire
Hi Joanne,

Although I'm not from the US, keep in mind that JAWS 2018 is still a beta
version, so Freedom Scientific states that, even when the final release will be
an SMA agreement, the beta version can be run with anyone having a valid JAWS
18 license. SMA upgrading to allow authorizing JAWS 2018 should be available
when the final version of JAWS 2018 is released.

Paste the URL into the edit box and press the convert button. When

Hi,
Though not a piece of software the following website will let you
accomplish this:
https://ytmp3.com

Simply find on youtube.com what you want to download, copy the
address, go to the website given above(https://ytmp3.com), and there
is a field on the site to paste the copied address from Youtube into,
and then hit the button to convert to mp3. Once this is done, simply
download the mp3 file by selecting download. I use the site all the
time, works great.Good luck.

Re: [JAWS-Users] accessible youtube to mp3 converter

2017-09-01 Thread Steve

Morn,
Free Youtube to MP3 converter.

When you open it, go to the Tools menu with Alt-T, then select the options
menu.

Right arrow to the Advanced tab.

About the third checkbox in is "enable compatibility with screen-readers."
Check that, obviously.

You will probably want to avail yourself of the other tabs there so you can
set the folder where you want to save your downloads.

Downloading Procedure:

Find the URL on youtube of the file you want to download.

Press control-L followed by control-C to copy that address to your
clipboard.

Switch to the free youtube-to-mp3 converter on your computer.

Tab to the paste button and press enter.

Either before that or prior to hitting the "download" button, tab to the two
comboboxes and make sure you have the desired options selected. The
combobox immediately to the left of the paste button has the different
formats you can convert to; one of which is mp3, but there are others if you
even want to use them instead.

The second combobox has different selections depending upon which format you
choose. For MP3's, it will have different bit rates and recording quality
levels; ranging from book quality which is 32K bits up to 320 Kbits per
second, joint stereo, which they label "insane quality".

Once you hit Paste, in a couple secconds, you can hit the download button.

If you happen to have pasted in the link for a "playlist," there will be a
dialog where you can check Yes if you want to try to download the whole
playlist, or No if you just want that particular track.

You'll achieve much better results by writing the HTML directly in a text
editor than you will with WYSIWYG editors - especially in regard to
accessibility.

If you don't like editing HTML, you could write in a format such as
Markdown, then use Pandoc to convert it to HTML.

I work in Notepad ++ and occasionally Dreamweaver, but DW is a bit of a
challenge.

However to do this, you actually need to learn how to code in HTML and CSS
which isn't hard at all and IMO, much better than using page building
software.

Pages created by these 'page builders' are usually not all that accessible
and are very big files.

Re: [JAWS-Users] downloading and installing languages

2017-09-01 Thread JM Casey
Hey.
If it says it isn't a proper installer package, you either didn't get the
full download (probably stopped partway through ...different browsers have
different ways of handling that situation), or the file itself is corrupted.
Try downloading again. If it still doesn't work, it's not your problem, but
VFO's.

When you download a voice, you have to choose the synthesiser version and
your language in the combo boxes provided. I assume you knew this and did it
already. Doesn't sound like you are doing anything wrong.

Re: [JAWS-Users] website builders/creation tools ad JAWS?

2017-09-01 Thread Jason White
You'll achieve much better results by writing the HTML directly in a text
editor than you will with WYSIWYG editors - especially in regard to
accessibility.

If you don't like editing HTML, you could write in a format such as
Markdown, then use Pandoc to convert it to HTML.

I work in Notepad ++ and occasionally Dreamweaver, but DW is a bit of a
challenge.

However to do this, you actually need to learn how to code in HTML and CSS
which isn't hard at all and IMO, much better than using page building
software.

Pages created by these 'page builders' are usually not all that accessible

Re: [JAWS-Users] Link to download/install JAWS 2018 BETA.

2017-09-01 Thread Mike B.
Below you'll find the direct download links for the podcast, & Beta 2018.

Eric Damery and Jonathan Mosen describe and demonstrate what's new in JAWS
2018. Learn about the features and participate in our public beta.

64 Bit:

http://jaws2018.vfo.digital/170829R25CE7/J2018.1708.29enu-x64.exe

The following features are new to JAWS 2018. For more information and
complete demonstrations, go to the
FSCast web page
 and listen to episode 143.

JAWS Version Number Change

Beginning with this release, JAWS will now be numbered using the year it
will be shipping in, rather than an arbitrary number. You can think of it as
though
this is the 2018 model of JAWS coming out this Fall, just as they do with
cars. The versions of ZoomText and Fusion that get released following this
new
JAWS 2018, will also have the same 2018 numbering. This will make it easier
for users to know which versions go together, and when they were released.

New Microsoft Edge Support

JAWS 2018 introduces support for Edge, the latest web browser from Microsoft
included in Windows 10. To use JAWS with Edge, you must be running the
Windows
10 Creators update (version 1703) or later. While there are still several
JAWS features that are not available in Edge such as selecting and copying
using
the Virtual Cursor, PlaceMarkers, Smart Navigation, Flexible Web, and
domain-specific settings, we have made the overall experience of navigating
pages
in Edge using both speech and braille as similar as possible to working in
Internet Explorer, Chrome, or Firefox. As we continue to work with Microsoft
to improve the Edge experience, future JAWS updates will include greater
functionality. This initial Edge support will also be ported back to a JAWS
18
update.

The Virtual Cursor is used to read pages in Edge just like in other
browsers. You can use the standard reading commands as well as most of the
Navigation
Quick Keys to navigate through pages. Currently, there are a few Navigation
Quick Keys that are not yet supported in Edge, however the most used
commands;
moving by headings, paragraphs, forms, tables, lists, graphics, and regions,
are available. More Navigation Quick Keys will be supported in future
updates.

By default, JAWS uses Semi-auto Forms Mode in Edge, which turns on Forms
Mode automatically only when you move to a form control using TAB or
SHIFT+TAB.
Due to the way Edge displays pages, Auto Forms Mode is not available as it
is possible to have multiple controls on a single line. You will need to
press
ENTER to turn on Forms Mode if you use the ARROW keys to move to form
fields.

Other familiar JAWS features that are currently supported include:

list of 4 items
. Displaying a list of links, headings, or form controls by pressing
INSERT+F7, INSERT+F6, or INSERT+F5.
. Searching for text on the current page by pressing CTRL+F.
. Obtaining font information by pressing INSERT+F.
. The ability for JAWS to detect changes in the language used on a web page
and automatically switch to the appropriate voice if available.
list end

As you begin using Edge, one important item to note is that Edge is a Modern
app with no menu bar that can be accessed using the ALT key. To access Edge
specific features, press TAB from the bottom of a page or SHIFT+TAB from the
top. Continue using TAB or SHIFT+TAB to move through the various controls
until you cycle back around to the content area. Alternatively, Edge offers
many of the same shortcut keys found in other browsers such as CTRL+T to
open
a new tab, CTRL+H for History, CTRL+I for Favorites, CTRL+J for Downloads,
and so on.

Convenient OCR Adds Support for Freedom Scientific Cameras and Flatbed
Scanners

The Convenient OCR (Optical Character Recognition) feature, which enables
you to recognize the text of inaccessible PDF documents opened in Adobe
Reader
or the text of images on the screen, has been expanded to support the
recognition of image files as well as images captured by Freedom
Scientific's PEARL®
reading camera or a flatbed scanner. The PEARL is a highly portable document
camera that allows you to capture and recognize a page within seconds, and
also features an automatic mode that senses motion which causes it to
capture an image whenever a page is turned.

To recognize text in image files saved as BMP, JPG, JPEG, GIF, TIF, TIFF,
PNG, PCX, or PDF, press the layered keystrokes INSERT+SPACEBAR, O, F while
focused
on the specific file in File Explorer. The recognized text will be displayed
in the results viewer where you can use standard reading commands to review
the text or select and copy it to other applications. Alternatively, press
the APPLICATIONS key to open the context menu and choose "Recognize File
with
JAWS," or "Recognize File with ZoomText Fusion" if Fusion is running.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Blocking an email/Outlook 2016 & Jaws 18

2017-09-01 Thread Humberto Rodriguez
Hello Laura:

Often the email that appears in the From: field is not the one it comes
from, spammers are very crafty in avoiding blockage. If you want to read
the email headers, do the following:

Press Alt
Press LeftArrow
Press DownArrow
Press Enter
DownArrow to Properties
Press Enter
Tab seven times
Press Control-Home
Press DownArrow and read all the headers.

Each email has all these headers, but they are simply not shown.

Blocking is not easy, but you may try the following:

While on the unopened message:

Press the Applications Key
Press the letter S
DownArrow twice to Create Rule
Press Enter

There you may try sending the email to Deleted Items based on the sending

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Blocking an email/Outlook 2016 & Jaws 18

Hello,

I keep receiving a bogus email that I would like to block and have tried to
do so unsuccessfully. The email I want to block is concerning to me because
of where Jaws says it's coming from, the fact that they continue to arrive
in my inbox, and the fact that I cannot block this sender.

I highlighted the email I wanted to block, pressed the applications key, and
went to junk. When I pressed enter on "block this sender" Jaws asked me if
I wanted to do this but it was a different email than what I had highlighted
and the email Jaws was asking me to block was not even in the list to be
highlighted. The only choice it gave me was to click "okay"; there was not
a choice to cancel. Since I did not want to block the email Jaws was
suggesting I tried to get out of this; I tried pressing escape, control + y,
and alt + f4 without success. I had to go to task manager to shut down
Outlook for this to go away and allow me to access my email accounts. The
email I want to block is still there.

How do I block this sender? .. Thank you for any help or suggestions.

Laura

Subject: [win10] Critical advisory: do NOT update to Fall Creators Update if
you plan to use JAWS 2018 with Edge due to performance problems #ADVISORY
#JAWS #WinTenDev

Hi everyone,

The below advisory is rated "critical" as it will affect ALL JAWS 2018 users
who plans to use Microsoft Edge in Fall Creators Update. Thus, I recommend
folks to forward this to other forums, mailing lists and what not, as well
as raise a red flag with MS and VFO:

CRITICAL ADVISORY: major performance issues found when using JAWS 2018 with
Edge under Fall creators Update builds, with one report stating JAWS and/or
Edge crashes:

JAWS 2018 adds support for Microsoft Edge, the browser that ships as part of
Windows 10. Support for Microsoft Edge, especially the new EdgeHTML
rendering engine, is crucial when it comes to supporting certain universal
apps, as they will use the rendering engine used by Edge to display web
content. However, some users have reported performance problems when trying
to use JAWS 2018 with Edge under Fall Creators Update preview builds,
ranging from delay in feedback to at least one report of JAWS and/or Edge
crashing, with performance issues confirmed in subsequent testing. Although
these are possible due to beta status of JAWS 2018, part of this is due to
changes to Edge code introduced in several Windows Insider Preview builds
for the upcoming feature update to Windows 10.

Reason for rating this advisory "critical":

* Windows 10 is a service, therefore feature updates are sent to users
and organizations on a semi-annual basis. The latest stable build (Version
1703) will be replaced by upcoming Fall Creators Update (Version 1709) in a
few weeks, and soon or later, most users will be asked to update to the new
version. Although enterprises can delay the upgrade for a time, they will be
asked to upgrade to a future release at one point or another. For those
running Windows 10 Home, you CANNOT defer updates.
* The time to deploy Fall Creators Update can range from several weeks
to several months. This means that, unless users tell Windows 10 to defer
updates, they'll be updated to the new release. If told to defer updates,
Windows 10 will present the new release by early next year.
* The delay period (between the day Fall Creators Update is released
and January 2018) is a period of bug fixing, and if MS and/or VFO misses
this, people will face issues with Edge in the upcoming release after
upgrades, further compounding the problem. Thus, it is critical that a fix
(both short-term and long-term) is in place before end of 2017 to allow
people to test this for a few weeks before Fall Creators Update comes to
everyone.

Recommended actions:

1. Raise a red flag (feedback) with Microsoft and VFO to make sure this
is addressed as soon as possible.
2. Avoid upgrading to Fall Creators Update until issues with JAWS and
Edge are ironed out to an extent that users can use Edge for basic tasks.
3. Optionally, if you absolutely need to use Edge and/or universal apps
that display web content via Edge's rendering engine, use other screen
readers known to support Edge (such as Narrator).
4. If you need to use a web browser for any task, do NOT use Edge until
major problems are resolved.

Thanks.

Cheers,

Joseph

[JAWS-Users] List Guidelines Reminder

2017-09-01 Thread Moderator
Hello and welcome to the JAWS Users list.
This list has been created for The purpose of discussing all aspects of the
JAWS for Windows screen reader Program.

So everything that pertains to JAWS is fair game. Such as asking about what
software packages work well with JAWS or how to make them work even better
with scripts, keyboard short cuts and so forth. Another example could be
requesting information on how to do something in Microsoft Word, which as we
all
know works very well with JAWS, but you need to know how to do a certain
task or want to learn a way to accomplish it more efficiently.

Now this is a very important point in my opinion, asking the list for exact
instructions every time is not a good thing to do for a major reason. It
creates
a dependency situation even if you don't realize it does. The ideal place I
am hoping the list will arrive at some day is that everybody no matter how
new they might happen to be with JAWS or computers will have the confidence
to try things on their own, and yet feel if they get stuck the list will be
there to help put them back on track. Trust me when I say that help is
quicker to arrive for somebody who is well known to ask for it last than
first.
So try it yourself first whatever it is. If you get stuck then let the list
know what you've done to try and resolve your current dilemma. Then I'm sure
help will arrive with in short order. Next a post asking if there is a
software package that does a specific task and works well with JAWS is
perfectly
fine.

The rules of conduct are quite simple and straightforward. Be polite and
Patient with others. There will be absolutely no fighting, and no bashing of
Freedom
Scientific on here at all. If you have a problem with them then take it up
with Freedom Scientific directly.

Please try to keep subject lines relevant and descriptive as possible.

Signatures and tag lines should not be more than a couple of sentences,
three or four at the most. If you wish to include a tag line, don't make
another
message of it. Placing anything else in there simply increases the bandwidth
required to handle the posted message and make it more work for a person who
wishes to follow the given thread back to review previous messages, as they
have to plow down past an overly long signature. Also please place your
message
above your signature line so as not to force people to read it before they
get to your message.

Also any newsletters except those that directly pertain to JAWS should not
be posted to the list prior to receiving moderator approval.

Attachments are removed before any message is sent to the list. This is done
for your protection. The message list might state that there is an
attachment
but in fact Mailman does remove them.

When contacting any of the list moderators privately please be descriptive
in the subject line as to the purpose of the message. Many of us simply
delete
messages from people we don't know. At the present time there are over 700
subscribers to this list, so we can't possibly know everybody on here.

Also, if you have a question for the list that falls within the guidelines,
then post it accordingly. Don't contact the management team with questions
that are more appropriate for the list itself. Your question may or may not
receive an answer for a number of reasons.

Everybody should familiarize themselves with the content contained in the
footer message that accompanies every message posted to the list.

Occasionally there might be some difficulty with your email address and you
may receive an email from the server asking you to reactivate your account.
Please do not simply delete this message. Instead open it and follow the
directions to reactivate your account. If you do not after receiving a
number
of such messages then the server will remove your email address
automatically.

The discussion of anything illegal is absolutely forbidden, along with
flirting or other such inappropriate activities. This is not a high tech
swap shop
or anything of that nature at all. This means that goods and or services
will not be bought or sold using this forum. If you know a given subject is
off
topic then don't post it. Simply placing off topic in the subject line does
not make it all right.

Posting to a single address IE this list is the preferred acceptable
practice as we do not allow cross posting. That is simply posting to more
than one
list or address in the same message. You can post the same message to
multiple list, but not at the same time.

Now to the matter of replying to a posted message:

The proper practice is to simply hit the reply command in your respective
email client, IE control + R is used quite often in many programs. Replying
to
all, for example control + shift + R in Windows Live Mail will only serve to
get your message flagged by the server for having too many recipients.

Then at that point your message gets held for one of us to accept or

shows the list of available products and their prices. I have Jaws home
