Jaws 2018 sluggishness on internet

Don’t know if sluggishness is quite right for what has been occurring with
Jaws 2018 and Windows 7 on the internet. I have been visiting the Epson,
Amazon and Staples Web sites the last few days and whenever you click on a
link Jaws goes silent for 15 or 20 seconds before resuming speech. Sometimes
I have to tab away from the page to get Jaws talking again. I think this
started with 2018. We also have a pc running Windows 10 and Jaws 2018 and it
does not have this problem. Anyone know what is going on with this issue?

Hi, Laura. I also had to figure out this technology mostly by myself, but
with a great deal of help from people on this and other lists. There are
many others here in our situation. Gerald gave you the right advice. To help
clarify things, Adobe tends to put its PDF reader on the desktop, where it's
labeled "acrobat" on my system. No mention of Adobe, even though it's an
Adobe product.

Adobe Flash is made by the same company but has nothing to do with its PDF
reader. Instead, it's about sound and videos.

So, go to your desktop with either Windows key+d or Windows key+m. then
press the letter a until, I hope, you hear Acrobat. Assuming you do, press
enter. The Adobe Acrobat Reader will open. Then follow Gerald's directions.
It should make a big difference.

Another tip. If your PDF documents are being read by Acrobat Reader PC or
Adobe Reader, you should uncheck the box in the Accessibility Set Up
Assistant labeled, "Open PDF documents in the web browser", which may be
checked by default. To do this, launch Acrobat Reader, go to the Edit menu
and scroll all the way down to the Accessibility submenu. Select Set up
Assistant, and on the fifth and final page of the Assistant, tab to this
check box and uncheck it. Opening PDF documents in the browser can
sometimes cause problems with JAWS or the browser itself.

Alt s should allow you to have it come up in pdf so jaws can read it.
For what I've experienced, you do have to close down the internet in those

What I do is use control enter to open those up, so I goes to anotuerh

accessible. Trying to use the regular Facebook site was a nightmare for me
and quite unaccessible.

I would go to m.facebook.com, enter on create an account, and pretty much
follow the instructions from there. If you need further help don't hesitate
to ask .. Good luck!

upgrading to Windows 10 Creators Update (repost from October)

Hello all. I posted this to the list about a month ago but still have not
received a response.

Hello all. I ran into an issue with JAWS that rendered me unable to log on
to my hotel's Wi-Fi network at our state's NFB Convention.

I am running Windows 10 Creators Update with the latest version of Jaws 18.
I can't seem to be able to access the list of available networks in the
system tray with my laptop. In Control Panel in the Network and Settings
Center, I can arrow to a link for list of Available Networks, but when I
press enter or spacebar to activate it, Jaws just says unavailable. I have
tried this in Narrator and was eventually able to connect to my hotel's
logon screen after closing JAWS and entering Control Panel with Narrator
Exclusively. However, when I accessed the logon screen, closed narrator and
ran JAWS 18, I discovered that the virtual cursor wouldn't activate and I
couldn't log on to the WIFI network. I've only noticed this issue since the
Creators Update. I also just installed Windows 2018 and the issue still
exists. I called Freedom Scientific Technical Support and was just advised
to upgrade to 2018. The Microsoft Disability Answer Desk was no help. Is
this a bug that could be replicated and reported to VFO?

Thanks.

Chris

2017-11-26 Thread Fernando Gregoire
Hi,

These hosts are different underlying structures for managing audio.
MME is a legacy one that you should only use in case of problems with
DirectSound in your particular combination of Windows version and audio driver.
WASAPI was introduced in Windows Vista and is particularly helpful if your
audio driver or hardware disallow recording audio from the computer (stereo mix
or similar input).
This is a quick explanation, but theres a good Audacity tutorial on this topic.

As far as I know, there's no way of doing this, because pressing END jumps out

When you finish editing your sells, you can copy and paste the sheet as a table

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Unable to access list of available networks
sinceupgrading to Windows 10 Creators Update (repost from October)

Thanks.

Chris

Hello,

Anyone knows how to jump to the end of the text in the currently selected
cell table?

I am entering text into a table in Word2016 and want to be able to navigate
the text in a specific cell. However, when I press Hoe or End, the cursor
jumps out of the cell I am currently typing in.

Hope anyone got any hints.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft Word2016: Jumping to end of cell in a table

2017-11-26 Thread Fernando Gregoire
Hi Daniel,

As far as I know, there's no way of doing this, because pressing END jumps out
of the sell as you said, and the JAWS command CTRL+ALT+END jumps to the last
sell in the current table. As a workaround, you could work with the sells in
Excel, press F2 on the one you want to edit and CTRL+END to go to the end as in
any text box.
When you finish editing your sells, you can copy and paste the sheet as a table
in the Word document.

Hope it helps!

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS and Skype audio ducking?

2017-11-26 Thread Fernando Gregoire
Hi,
This is because by default Windows reduces volume an half of the full value
when detects communication, such as via Skype.
To fix this press INSERT+F11 to open the Select a System Tray Icon dialog and
press ENTER on the speaker or headphones icon.
In the context menu, choose Playback Devices. In the Sound Dialog, go to the
Communications page and, in the group of radio buttons, select Do Nothing, then
press ENTER to OK.

Hope it helps!

Have tested with Narrator and this problem doesn't occur.

[JAWS-Users] Google Chrome and links

2017-11-26 Thread Adrian Spratt
The other day, someone posted that they couldn't get links to work in Chrome,
citing just one website. I hadn't had that experience until this morning. The
solution was to refresh JAWS with JAWS key+escape. In other words, the link did
work, but JAWS hadn't displayed the new page.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS2018 Not Playing Nice with Office Spell Check

2017-11-26 Thread amcarr1
Hello All,

I am using Windows10 Professional, OfficePro2016 and JAWS2018 Professional.
I am having significant trouble with getting JAWS to read the various
components of the spell check dialog in both Outlook and Word. Sometimes it
reads nothings, sometimes it reads as I am tabbing through the dialog box
and other times it does not. It rarely reads items in the same order when
it does talk while tabbing. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to
improve or better yet, correct this problem?

Thanks,

Annette

Tapped the Windows key.

Typed in device manager.

Tab once.

Down arrow and I find, Toggle Menu, Home, Notebook, devices, settings, and
feedback.

I've tried Right/Left arrows, Tab, Shift+Tab, Space, Enter, and Applications
key (Fn+Right Control), and I cannot activate any of these items.

I also tried typing mice... into the Start Menu search field, and managed to
get myself to the hardware tab in the Mouse Properties dialog box. There
are 2 items in this list that are exactly the same. I could not do a single
thing with them. I did find 3 options for touchpad sensitivity, so I set it
to "Low" via a lot of hoop jumping to get JAWS to read the changes I made.

Thanks,
Annette

For what I've experienced, you do have to close down the internet in those

This is a touch pad driver issue.
I googled it and for me it was just a matter of reinstalling an older

But each time i do this and recieve windows updates it just updates again.
It drives me crazy.
So now i just type in the start menu and type mouse then it comes up with
changing mouse settings.
So i click that one and just go in to the touch pad software and disable it
each time i boot up.
I have tole thems about this in the windows feedback but no fix as yet.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Web site message

Hello,

When I went to a web site I got the following message:

Infer reading order from document (recommended)

Left- to - right top - to - bottom reading order

Use reading order in raw print stream

There is nothing to click on .. I cannot back out of this site with back
space or alt + left arrow .. I cannot go to favorites with alt + a .. The
only way to get off this site is alt + f4 which takes me off the internet
completely.

Has anybody come across this situation? If so, do you have any suggestions
or remedies? .. Using Jaws 18, Windows 10 & Internet Explorer.

Thank you,

Laura

Re: [JAWS-Users] thanks. plusa 2016 outlook question

2017-11-26 Thread George Martinez Sr
Ted,
In my Outlook 2016 when I have the email received open I SHIFT + TAB about 4
times until it gets up to sent from and it is at the right end of the
address. Then I highlight & copy into a text file where I separate the
individual's email address.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] thanks. plusa 2016 outlook question

Dear List:

Thanks to those replying to my queries. How do I reply to someone on the
list without it going to the entire list? I cannot figure how to read the
sender's email address character by character so I can replace the group
address with the single person's address. I tried an alt-enter to get to
properties, but it must have been the wrong properties because it only had
the general tab in it. Would you please tell me the keystrokes involved and
where each step should take me to get to those address headers. Thanks.
Regards: Ted Larson

[JAWS-Users] JAWS and Skype audio ducking?

2017-11-26 Thread Sadam Ahmed

Hi all,

Whenever I make a Skype call from my laptop JAWS audio ducks.

Have spoken with the Microsoft Disability Answer desk, level 3, and they
can also reproduce this issue.

Running JAWS 2018 latest build.

Have tested with Narrator and this problem doesn't occur.

Any notions as to what to do?

Thanks in advance for any assistance rendered.

Yours sincerely,

Sadam Ahmed
