Re: [JAWS-Users] weather underground
Hi Miriam/all, I tried this from here in Greece checking for a French town I am speaking at in early February. Very good, except that I would like to have the temperature in Celsius rather than farenight. Is there a way of doing this? Re: [JAWS-Users] Desktop & Windows 10
Hi Net bat, Jason, & David, Okay, the log-in screen is disabled, but my problem, I now know, is my default Jaws choice at start-up! I thought I had set the computer to boot-up using J18, but I must have changed it at some point or another because it was starting up with J16, & that is the only Jaws version that doesn't go to the desktop at start-up! Re: [JAWS-Users] Desktop & Windows 10
My solution (which retains security during the login process) was to activate Windows Hello and set up fingerprint recognition. Unfortunately, I had to use Touch cursor to monitor the instructions that were displayed during the fingerprint enrollment procedure. I think there's room for a JAWS script (or other modification) to simplify this process. I have not tried face recognition, as my laptop doesn't appear to support it. (There's a front-facing camera, apparently, but to support face recognition, it needs to meet Microsoft's requirements.) -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of net bat66 Sent: Wednesday, January 24, 2018 1:47 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Desktop & Windows 10 if you mean disableing the log on screen try this. i don't know if this will work with the win 10 fall version. open the run dialog and type in netplwiz. this will open the user account settings and you can set it to log on automatically. it will want you to enter your log in password. once you get this set up it will go directly to the desktop. -Original Message- From: Mike B. Re: [JAWS-Users] Firefox 58 and JAWS compatibility
I suppose it's out of the question that this will ever work with JAWS 18 then? I know Freedom Scientific/VFO has continued to update it until fairly recently, but when is this going to end? I'm not planning to switch to JAWS 2018 any time soon as it's not a part of my license. Re: [JAWS-Users] Facebook Question
Yeah, this works, and is ok if you've only liked a few pages. But m.facebook.com is designed to have barely any text on the screen, for mobile users. This means you have to keep hitting the "see more" button over and over and over again until you find the one you want. Not a very efficient solution, in my opinion. Better to just type in what you are looking for in the search box, even though in a way it circumvents the way we are told facebook is supposed to operate. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Laura Richardson Sent: January 23, 2018 8:05 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Facebook Question I use Jaws 18 and m.facebook.com I press enter on the word profile and then arrow down and press enter on likes. Then I press the letter H until I hear web pages. This is where all the pages you have liked are located; you can use up and down arrow and press enter on any of the pages listed. FYI: If you want to quickly go back to that list from a web page you clicked on, just press alt + left arrow and you will be back at that list. This works well for me because sometimes I forget the exact name of a web page to type it in search and sometimes I run across FB pages I've liked that I forgot about. Re: [JAWS-Users] Mysterious reset of file associations Win 10
Hi. There are a lot of things I really like about Windows 10, and I still think I wouldn't voluntarily give it up, but yeah, this is the problem with the oS, and I know we're not alone. I see articles about this on tech websites all the time. Microsoft wants Windows to be a service with constant improvements rather than a stable OS, it seems. The problem is that the OS is now so complex and involving so many parts that it's really easy to break stuff, and something that works fine on the majority of systems might break someone else's. Then MS has to release a patch to fix the previous update, and the cycle continues, forever. Theoretically the more people use the oS, the easier it is to spot mistakes and the quicker they will be corrected. But that still leaves users at a disadvantage, you know? -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of The Iowa Gal Sent: January 24, 2018 10:26 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Mysterious reset of file associations Win 10 Hi JM and Gary, Gary, thanks for confirming this issue. Thanks so much. I will give this a try. Use your applications key to bring up the context menu. Select sort. >From the Sort menu, select custom. You are now in a dialog box which JAWS does not read well. Use the tab key to move around in it. The most important things you need to find are as follows: --The checkbox that indicates whether or not the top row is a headings row for the columns of data, or if it is actual data. If you have column headings, make sure it is checked. --Tab until you get to a combo box, or maybe it is a list box, for which column you want to use for sorting. JAWS can be very uncooperative with reading the contents. --There are 2 more combo/list boxes that allow you to set information about sorting on this column I.E. A-Z, Z-A, ascending, descending, etc. Depending on what you want your sort to look like, you may not need to deal with this. Again, JAWS is not always cooperative with reading this information. --There should be another set of 3 combo/list boxes that will allow you to select the second column you want to use for your sort, as well as its criteria. I can never remember which column will need to be in the first set of boxes, verses which one goes in the second set. You will have to play around with it.
