Hi Jaws Users group,

I just finished helping Neil one of my members, by doing a tandem into his

The reason he could not follow my instructions was because the F S mirror

The F S mirror Display drivers, do not work in w-10, they will cause unusual
problems as far as the way Jaws 17 sees information on your computer.
He is not the only one who still had these drivers installed.
This is why Freedom Scientific needs you to run the tool they provide before
upgrading to w-10, This should work 99 percent of the time.
So, for the 1 percent of you who might be having problems, read below:
How to check your computer to see what display drivers are installed on your
w-10 computer.
Type, Device manager, into the search box, press enter on device manager.
Or, Windows key+X, down arrow to device manager, press enter.
Tab one time to, Your PC opened.
Down arrow to, Display adapters closed, right arrow to open.
Here is what my computer says for the two items under display adapters:
ATI, Radeon HD 4250
Freedom Scientific accessibility display drivers
If any of you have, F S mirror display adapters in addition to, Freedom
Scientific accessibility display driver.
These drivers need to be removed from your w-10 computer, here is how to do so:
Highlight the driver that you wish to uninstall, press the application key.
Go down to, Disable, press enter.
A warning dialog will come up, asking if you are sure you want to disable this
device.
Tab to yes, press enter.
Now, highlight that same driver again.
Press the Application key.
Go down to, uninstall, press enter.
Again, you will get a warning window, Tab to yes, press enter.
You should get a dialog about restarting your computer, if so, restart your
computer.
After any drivers are uninstalled, please restart your computer.
Hopefully this will fix all issues.
Also, it’s a good idea to run a repair on Jaws, after doing something like this.
This way, you get a freshly installed Jaws on your computer after removing the
unnecessary mirror driver.
This is why, F S has you run the tool before upgrading to w-10, so you can
avoid having to do this.
If problems still persist after removing the mirror driver from your w-10
computer.
Then uninstall Jaws 16 or 17. then install, again fresh, this should straighten
out things for you.

Love God! with your heart, mind, and soul, that you might be blessed reaching
His goal.
Love your Neighbor as you would yourself, God will truly reward you with good
health.
Love God, your neighbor, as you love yourself, you will then be spiritually
balanced with wealth.
Love His Word that proceeds from His lips, then reflect on the heavens where

Hi Anna,

You can enable the preview pane for your messages, this will give you a look
at the first few lines of the email. And, no, a virus does not say "I am a
Virus", but a suspicious email does have certain traits depending on the
sender. I received a message stating that it was from PayPal a couple of
days ago, which told me that my profile for the site was incomplete, and
that I needed to click on a link to update it. I knew right away that this
was not true, and the grammar and spelling in the email was atrocious,
definitely not from a company like PayPal, so I deleted the message. Upon
speaking to a PayPal representative about it, I now know that I could have
forwarded this message to PayPal, and they would have investigated who sent
the message to me. Typically, someone who does this sort of thing, sends out
an entire batch of the messages at once, and PayPal or other companies start
to get lots of calls about them.

Hello Mike, I'm not sure as to why it's doing that. I will allow others, to
comment further but possibly thinking that it might be an Internet browser
issue. And something else I like to point out, you can actually have other
email accounts linked up to your Outlook.com account just like you can
Gmail.

 Hi Marek,
Are you using 32 bit version of xp?
If you are running 64 bit, you can only use Brltty with nvda, another
screenreader, but I am sure it will drive your display as brltty
 supports alva devices.
I have successfully set up an alva braille terminal on a 64 bit
windows7 with nvda, but Jaws can't drive it as it doesn't have driver for
64 bit.

 Hi Marek,
Are you using 32 bit version of xp?
If you are running 64 bit, you can only use Brltty with nvda, another
screenreader, but I am sure it will drive your display as brltty
 supports alva devices.
I have successfully set up an alva braille terminal on a 64 bit
windows7 with nvda, but Jaws can't drive it as it doesn't have driver
 for
64 bit.

Any ideas? I am affraid, that alva didn't developed drivers, but it

Dear Listers, the diminishing accessibility of Symantec products has
unfortunately reached its pinnacle by the latest releases of Norton İnternet

products, even installing them are not possible. I really wonder, if FS has got

 Hi Everyone,

Sometimes, I will get an error message in whatever program that I am using
at the moment and JAWS will stop speaking until the error message is
cleared. For example, if I am using IE and I get the message Internet
Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close, JAWS will fall
silent until I hit the close button to close Internet Explorer. It will
not read the error message. I either have to get someone sited to read
 the
error message or I run another screen reader to see what is going on.
 Now,
when JAWS stops speaking, I will hit the space bar so that, if this is the
problem, it will close the error message. I have also encountered this
 with
Word and Outlook. I am running JAWS 15 but this happened with JAWS 14
 too.
This has occurred ever sense I have had this computer. I have not had
 this
problem on other machines. This is the only PC that I have used that is
running Windows 8. I don't know if it is a Windows 8 thing or something
specific to this computer. Any thoughts?

Use the letter g to navigate to the graphic's that attend to the Adobe

Be aware of the install of additional toolbar's and software.

The install progress has changed, so it can be a bit frustrating to

files are uploading/downloading or if all files are up-to-date, the
J-Tools set of JAWS scripts from Astec at

instantly hear Dropbox file status information, another to drop right into
your Dropbox folder and a third to view the Context Menu for it including
working with your Preferences. The Preferences multi-page Dialog Box is also

I looked on the website couldn't find any Jaws scripts. If someone has

have HTML 5 support, if you require that support on IE 8 you can
install chrome framework over IE 8, this is a subset of Google

this does work well with JFW.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Google Chrome or IE 9, which is better

 Hi Everyone,
I’m using JAWS12 on a Windows 7 system and have finally decided to
upgrade my browser for various reasons. I recently logged into my
gmail account and saw a recommendation to upgrade to Google chrome.
What are the pros and cons to using Google chrome vs. IE 9 and how
do I decide which is better for me? Also, what is the current
status of Windows Live mail? I guess I’m asking whether it will
still be usable even if Microsoft technically stops supporting it.
Any thoughts and advice much appreciated.

 Susan

I hate to be a pane, but as far as I'm concerned Jaws 14 is currently
unusable with Outlook 2010. There are so many instances where Outlook 2010

Hello all!
Clicking the link bellow, you cand download Jaws 11.0 and all versions
Scripts for Yahoo Messenger 10.0.
These scripts are updated by Pontes IT Department, Romania.
Last update: 12 march 2010.

The messages in the instant window are read automatically by Jaws.
The alt + 1, 2, 3, ... 9 keystrokes work correctly.
The emoticons are spoken. The graphics were labeled one by one.
New keystroke added: control + shift + enter open the last address found in
the window. For instance, if someone send you a Youtube link, you press
control + shift + enter and the web browser will open the last link (URL)
vizible in current window..

Note:
If you use Yahoo Messenger 8, the scripts work like before, nothing changed
for this version, only emoticons are spoken and the keystroke Control +
Shift + Enter click the last link..
During the instalation you will be ask about version of JAWS that you use
with Yahoo, after, if the jaws is in another language than English, it is
necesary to choose it during the instalation, for instance, not ENU, but
ITA, HUN etc..

Here it is the link for download:

I found the page and there are items listed. I see with magic, that there
are check boxes for the ones you want. But Jaws isn't indicating them so I
can't check them. Then, toward the bottom, there's a button for downloading
a silent installer, but that didn't work. I actually thought I'd checked the
Java run update and pressed the button for the installer the first time I
tried, but apparently, I hadn't. I did manage to subscribe to their email
list. What usually happens with Adobe Flash Player is that I get a message
from Adobe that it is time to update and then I go to my Ninete llink for
that which is in my favorites. If it agrees that I need to update, there's
just a link to go to and it runs, finishes, and then I need to restart the
computer. I was hoping this Java update would work the same way.

Win7, JFW14.

For some strange reason which I'm not asking to solve here, when I go to
'all programs' then Jaws 13 and open it there is no uninstall item to click.

In fact compared to my other Win7 PC, there are very few entries there on
this second Win7 laptop of mine. Jaws runs just fine though. Anyway, That is

not the problem I'm asking for advice on here.

My only choice seems to be uninstalling JFW13 using the run command. windows

key then type run in the search edit field and then type some command there
to uninstall JAWS13 only without effecting JAWS14.

How do I do this?

Unfortunately, when I use the JAWS cursor in the Windows Explorer window, I
just get garbage at the bottom of the window! Would changing
the screen resolution make a difference? It is currently set at the
hardware's recommended resolution of 1366 x 768. Interestingly, the Insert

SayBottomLineOfWindow script. The script that comes from FS only
reads the actual bottom line of the window. But if I read both lines

In the old days, especially in XP, it was possible to hear the number
of items selected and the total size in Windows Explorer shown in the
status bar. In Windows 7, if I press Insert + PageDown, I just hear
the number of items selected. I think the normal behavior in Windows

status bar. On my computer, the JAWS cursor can not pick up that text
either.

Does anybody know of a Windows 7 or JAWS setting that will place the

Seven hides things by default, with luck you'll be able to find them when

There is another trick which I plan on revealing besides the what you here

I am now in the position to record a tutorial demonstrating how you can
record your voice and your screen reader of choice presumably JAWS in
this case on both XP and Windows 7.

So those of you who have expressed an interest in finding out how that
is done may get an insiders' look so to speak.

I just upgraded this lap top which I have done many of my tutorials on
from XP to 7 Ultimate and I can still record in the same manner as
 before.

Hi David,
I'm using Win8 now and know what you mean
about it's similarity to 7. I just have one question and maybe I'm
missing something, so please correct me where needed? I've heard this
stuff about not having a start menu. What do you mean by that because
when I press my Windows key I get a start up list just like with the 7.
Oh, it's not exactly the same, but it mostly is and although it doesn't
say edit search or whatever it did in 7, if I just start typing what I
want as soon as I press the Windows key, it turns search on. I'm going
to try Outlook as I really don't like TB much because of issues. Really
wanted to use Windows Mail, but not since it won't echo anything when am
typing in a new message with JAWS or NVDA, I won't be using it and hope
that gets corrected with an update.

Actually, windows 8 isn't really that difficult to use.
For many of the settings, you can setup the windows 8 machine, just like
 windows 7.
The big difference is, there's no start menu.

[JAWS-Users] jaws 14 authorisation issue

2012-10-23 Thread Alex Stone
I have an annoying issue with jaws 14. I'm trying to use jaws 14 with a
dongle on a machine that has a jaws 13 ilm authorisation on it. Un
fortunately, when I start the machine and get past the login prompt, I'm
told that I don't have an authorisation for the current version. Fortunately
exiting jaws and restarting it fixes the problem, but it's a nuisance.
Before anyone asks me, the dongle is authorised for version 14.

Marker Daisy file that keeps being in my update regardless of which version

on this computer, 12 will be going later on this week I think.

I always have updated through the update feature since it has been available

real deal being it is a updated version for the version running.

[JAWS-Users] annoying voice issue in Jaws 14

2012-10-05 Thread Alex Stone
Somehow I seem to have done something to the jaws 14 beta, which means I
have a vocalizer voice on my desktop, and eloquence elsewhere. I want to
have eloquence everywhere. Can anyone tell me how to fix this, I'm not sure
what I did to make it happen. I've looked in settings centre from the
desktop, but there doesn't seem to be anything there. I think it must have
something to do with voice profiles, but I can't find it there either. Any
help would be most welcome.

message, then does not read lines of the next message and yes, I do have
read messages automatically turned on, have used that function for years.
Have closed and reopened jaws beta, rebooted the computer and closed and
reopened Outlook and this is still a persistent problem which is making me
not want to read list mail at a time when I prefer to read it to see others

 Hi Jerry,

 Here you go.

Here is the correct procedure for repairing Jaws. Two methods, I
 got from another lister.
 Blank
Here is the info. Just change the version or highlight your current
 version
 using browse.
 Follow the steps below;
The steps below are the best, most in depth, and most thorough way of
repairing Jaws according to Freedom Scientific Tech Support.
 1. Place a copy of the Jaws executible version that you want to repair
 into
the main root of the C drive. For example; If you are running Jaws11
most recent you would paste a copy of J11.0.1430-32bit.exe into the
 main
root of the C drive. To open the main root of the C drive, go to
the desktop, press enter on My Computer, press enter on Local disk C, and
now you have the main root of the C drive open.
 2. With the Jaws .exe pasted into the C drive, highlight the .exe
, and press F2 as if you were going to edit this line of text. now press
control + C to copy this Jaws executible, press escape to close the edit
field, and press Alt + F4 to close the C drive.
What you want to do is place just the title of the Jaws version into the
Windows Run Dialogue box and not the file. If you were to place the Jaws
executible into the Run box without copying as you did as per the
instructions above you would have pasted the whole file into the Run Box
 instead of just the title.
 3. Now that you have just the title copied to the clipboard, press Windows
key + R to open the Run Dialogue Box. Type, remember to type a capitalC ,
 C:\ without the quotes or
spaces and press control + V to paste the Jaws title, press your end key
 to
take the cursor to the end of the title and type in the following /type
repair without the quotes but, with the spaces . Below is what your line
of text should look / read like.
 C:\J11.0.1447-64bit.exe /type repair
Read character by character to make sure you have put in the proper
 spaces,
Forward back slashes and text. press the home key to go to the front of
the title and press enter to start the repair.
A 2nd way to do the same thing.
 1. Use Windows key with R to bring up the run dialog box.
 2. Use tab key to the browse button and press spacebar.
 3. Browse to the downloaded JAWS setup file and press enter key.
 4. Use tab key to move to where JAWS says open colon edit combo, press
the end key and then press spacebar.
 5. Type in /Type repair, (that is first type a slash followed immediately
by the word type then a space and then the word repair.
 6. Use tab key to the OK button and press enter key.
 7. Follow the prompts.

Subject: Hey, can you post this to the jaws list for me? Thanks and have an
awesome day!

Recently, I have had an upgrade to my systems at my place of employment. For
the longest time, we used JAWS 7 because it worked the best with our
proprietary systems. Now after the upgrade, it has become necessary to use
JAWS 11. JAWS 11 is the highest that our license allows us to utilize at
this time.

I am also using a focus 80 Braille display. My question is this. Since
upgrading to 11, I am noticing that every time I go in to an application
such as email or the application needed to update a customer's address and
phone number there is unnecessary information all the way to the left hand
side of my display. For instance while in E-mail the left side of the
display will show the word inbox. I'd like to get rid of this information.
It takes up room on the display, and for the work I do it is not needed. I
have tried turning off Flash messages completely, and have changed many of
the verbosity settings with no success. Any suggestions to fix this problem
would be appreciated.

Also JAWS 11 tends to speak a lot of unnecessary information as well. Each
time I move from screen to screen JAWS will say secure connection. Is
there a way to turn some of this chatter off?

Thank you in advance

And, even where you have a braille display or three connected (and

Subject: [JAWS-Users] having two braille displays working with JAWS
 simultaneously?

 Hi,

It is possible to add other braille displays to JAWS, in addition to
 the
one you normally use, either via the Add braille Display item in the
Braille... JAWS Options menu or via the Synthesizer braille manager
 in
the JAWS utility manager. A friend would like to be able to use his
 pac
mate and his Alva Satellite together, as two displays working with
 JAWS
at the same time. Is this possible - in practice?

I can see how, in theory, it could be; but JAWS wishes to select one
 or
the other display in practice, if both are set to be default.
 (Consider
how one might want the other display, rather as in the manner of an
alternate say-all speech synthesizer, for certain situations or
 applications.)

Flor, you can have more than one display, but only one default display.

No, a document that is included as some kind of link, but not really a link,
as the document does not really exist outside the document in which it's
embedded.

Hi alix.
Are you talking about a document that was imported as an image?
