[JAWS-Users] xp balloons
HI all. I am sorry to bother you all with this, but the balloons are not even coming up in windows. Not only is jaws not speaking them! I wish I knew what I did wrong. My bf said there was a way to test the balloons out however when unplugging the ethernet cable it does not give a balloon notification. Is there another way I can go about testing if the balloons in xp in fact work? and if jaws will or will not read them? There is an option to enable or disable the tool tips, but this is different that the balloon tips. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Christy Walker Sent: Sunday, August 10, 2008 5:43 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] I do not hear the notificationRe: How do you turnon balloon notifications in win xp? [JAWS-Users] Microsoft chat
Hi there listers. I know this is probably and old program that none of you even use but here is my question. My problem is this. When using ms chat 2.5, after a while of text is on the screen, jaws will read a part of a sentence from other text before getting to the actual text at hand. What I mean is this. Let's say you write something like; Christy says hi and the sentence previous to that says nothing much it will say: nothing much. Christy says hi. Can I get a setting in either ms chat or jaws to not read prior parts of sentences before the current one has been written? Thanks for any help.. I am using jaws 09 I mean 9. In my opinion, Avira is the best choice. But by configure, I recommend you the following: Go to system tray. Select avira, and press enter. Select configure antivir. Check expert mode. Select from the tree view scanner, and tab, if you arrive: file scanning is extended, go twice up, and select all files. Select ignore offline files, uncheck it, select scan foor rootkits, check it. In the tree view, select archives, but open the search tree. UUncheck recursion depth. Select heuristic. Get the win32 heuristic on highest detection level. Make it by guard as well, but by search, select scan for archives, and the max checkboxes, these 3 peace, uncheck. God bless, and stay avay from viruses with avira, I make it too! But, yes, it can be, it is an automatic scan. But if you want to scan your system, route jaws cursor to pc cursor, and if it says: Last complete system scan, and the time, and next to says scan system now, route jaws cursor to scan system now, and a left mouse button click, with jfw cursor, allow scanning. [JAWS-Users] anti virus programs with jaws
Hi all. I have installed avira anti virus on this computer. However, I am not sure if I had set it up to scan correctly. I've went to the administration and it says 12:00 minimized.. Well, it hasn't done a virus scan of my machine as of yet and I am wondering two things. Firstly does anyone know about avira anti virus and how to make it work? And 2, has anyone used it? And one more thing I'd like to know about it anyone can help.. Do they mean it will scan at 12 midnight or at 12 in the afternoon? Thanks, Christy. PS Can anyone tell me out here what is the best free program to go with that does not freeze up jaws at start up? Since AVG 8 tends to do that on here. [JAWS-Users] Question about mud clients
Hi all. I am wondering this. Is there any mud clients that work with jfw well? I know Monky term works fine. But firstly I can't find it. So can anyone tell me which mud client works well with jaws without setting up scripts? Also: I am having a problem. I have used gmud32 on this machine. And I've unchecked everything. But it still speaks words when I am typing with it. How do I turn that all off if any? Thanks. I've tried to uncheck echo... but still no luck. No virus found in this outgoing message. Re: [JAWS-Users] Does anyone know how to update automatically theantispyware within AVG?
Hi there k. I do know how to update the anti virus software. in the program when first opening it.. go to components by pressing alt c. Use your down arrow until you see anti virus. Press enter. Once you have done this, route jaws to pc. Scroll up because it sort of puts you on the bottom. As you are scrolling up, wait until you hear Update now button make sure your cursor is on the b inb button. Then left click your mouse button on the keyboard. it then it will tell you updating while your jaws is still routed to pc.. When it says update was successfully finished, it will say finished button. left mouse button on that. hth.. Hope I didn't confuse you too much. Re: [JAWS-Users] question regarding I e repair
Well that does work fine. So I believe it's an issue with for the people's site.. I've spoken to someone on there and they have told me that there was another person having this issue. Thanks for the help. - Original Message - From: Flor Lynch [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Sunday, July 20, 2008 4:15 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] question regarding I e repair Hi, 1. next time you visit the site, hit the escape key as soon as you land on it. this should cut out the spoken welcome message. 2. If you decide you'd still like to try to hear the welcome message, but in the interim would try another site which has music immediately you get there unless you press the escape key: 2A. Go to http://www.accessibleprograms.com/ -- there is music intro. The way to stop that, as with the for-the-people intro, is to hit the escape key. Now if your computer crashes on the Accessible Programs site, probably some other setting on your computer may be at mischief. - Original Message - From: Christy Walker [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Saturday, July 19, 2008 6:17 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] question regarding I e repair Yes that's true. When it does work, I don't know until I manually pull up the download manager and find it has already been downloaded. Similarly, I am having problems with browsing. When pressing Control Enter to open a tab in the background, there is no immediate feedback and it works only about half of the time. Very frustrating to finish with the current page, close the tab, and find out the other tab never opened! Using Control Shift Enter to open a tab in the foreground never works. By watching this list, I reckon' that I am the only one facing these issues. I love Firefox 3, and would love to be able to make it my default browser! I was a Computer Architect at Lockheed Martin before becoming disabled and evangelized about open standards. To clear up any confusion, I am running Vista, Firefox 3 and the latest release of JAWS 9. Re: [JAWS-Users] Super anti spyware
Thanks for the information. I will save it to my flash drive and then put it on my latop. *laptop* - Original Message - From: mike barbara [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Wednesday, July 16, 2008 6:20 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Super anti spyware Hi Christy, Here are some instructions that were provided by Brian Lee a few months ago. I hope they will answer some of your questions. I am installing and using the free Super Anti-Spyware program on many of my clients computers. It will also scan for tracking cookies like Ad-Aware does if you set it to. To have the program scan for tracking cookies in addition to all other types of malware you can do the following once it is installed: 1. Double-click or press enter on the Super anti-Spyware installed icon on the desktop. 2. Use the tab key to move to the preferences button and press enter. 3. The previous step opens the control center for the program. You might not be able to use the tab key to move between the controls. However, if you use Alt-Tab to move back to the parent dialog box that was opened, (which should be called Super AntiSpyware Free Edition, and close that dialog box by using Alt-F4, then you will be able to tab between the controls of the Super AntiSpyware Control Center once you use Alt-Tab to move back to it. 4. Once you have moved back to the Super AntiSpyware control center, use the tab or shift-tab keystroke to move to the page tabs of the dialog box. 5. Once on the page tabs use the right arrow key to move to the scanning control tab. 6. use the tab key to move to the scan for tracking cookies checkbox and use spacebar to check or uncheck the choice. You can then use tab key to move to the close button and press enter. 7. There are also settings in the General and Startup: page tab of the Super Anti-Spyware control center that you might want to check such as starting the program with Windows, having it run in the system tray, etc. If it runs in the system tray and you open it from there with the right mouse button simulation then you can use the tab key in the control center without closing any other dialog first. The latest version of AVAST has anti-spyware detection and removal as part of the program including anti-rootkit detection and of course antivirus protection. It is very easy to use with JAWS when selected from the system tray and using the various levels of menus. Super Anti-Spyware takes a little longer to scan than Ad-Aware, but it removes everything Ad-Aware does plus many other types of malware. Take care. And tried or at least thought I was trying to unmute the laptop. But it didn't work. Can anyone tell me how to navigate around this with no speech? *sigh Christy Rememeber, I think I muted the laptop .. not sure what I did :( Visit the JAWS Users List home page at: http://www.jaws-users.com Visit the Blind Computing home page at: http://www.blind-computing.com Address for the list archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com To post to this group, send email to jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com To unsubscribe from this group, send an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help from Mailman with your account Put the word help in the subject or body of a blank message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Use the following form in order to contact the management team http://www.jaws-users.com/managers.php If you wish to join the Blind Computing list send a blank email to the following address: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[JAWS-Users] sigh f11 didn't work
Hi .. F11 when pressed and going to volume control and tabbing twice to uncheck muted or not did not work. I don't know what else could be muted. So looks like I will have to call Freedomscientific because they are good with getting things working with no speech, or just wait for sighted help. *sigh * I could have really saved myself the issue... Re: [JAWS-Users] In desperate need of help with laptop!
no it's not volume .. I don't know what exactly what is muted. We went in and checked all boxes necessary, and it's not a hard ware issue like I've states. *very frustrated* - Original Message - From: David Griffith [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 'Rick Justice' [EMAIL PROTECTED]; jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Wednesday, July 09, 2008 10:07 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] In desperate need of help with laptop! Granted - using sighted help is always easier and Quick mix is probably a good recommendation for a remedial solution in the future. By the way Is not the volume in icon tray by default in XP? I thought it was but I will stand corrected if it is not. The key point is that she appears that she has no sighted help at the moment and the subject line said desperate. Going to volume controls without sound through the start menus is I think even more convoluted. I have managed to talk 2 Jaws users without sighted help back to an unmuted system over the phone using this method so I thought I would suggest this here. Hi David, If the icon for the volume control is not in the system tray, that will not work. Trying to navigate the computer without speech is not adviseable, one incorrect keystroke, and it is possible to cause more problems. I would recommend getting some sighted help in this instance, and then putting some alternative methods into place for recovering the sound. HTH, Richard Q. TV viewing seems to be slipping away from the visually impaired with the advances in digital cable, DVRs, On Demand, on screen guides and menus. I am hoping that soon there will be accessible ways to use these blew features. Does anyone know if JAWS works with Media Center? I could not get past the original set up screens. I could get one of my children to do this if it would be worthwhile. In the near future, I think I might just need a TV with a screen reader.
