When I go to my jaws iconeand open jaws from desktop, to go to update or 
anywhere, jaws stop working. I had to scape to start jaws. Did this several 
times with the same result. JAWS 2018 and current W10.

When you go to amazon.com on top there is a link title accessibility or 
something like that. Go there. I do not use it because jaws works well with 
it. Using jaws 2018 and w10 and google. Works well with IE 11.

I had also issues with loading pages, Most of the times. This is why I ended 
up using crome which can not understand why people like it. I am getting 
alot of adds from it. Even when I added an add extention.

Hi, all
When I was using IE 11, I could see VIPRE in my adds on extention when I went 
there. Now that I am using crome, I do not see VIPRE. I tried to search for an 
extention for VIPRE at the crome store and nothing. How can this happen where 
in IE 11 it was there and in crome is not? Using jaws 2018 and w10.

sites.
When you find the link for the mp3 you want, do this:
1. Open the context menu, and press enter on, "save link as".
2. When the dialogue opens,tab to the file type combo box, and down arrow to

all files, then tab to the save button, and press the spacebar.
The file should download to your default location.
Note:
This seems to be a standard "Save As", dialogue box.

Next Important heading:
On Start up.
Here is where you put in your URL that you want to show as soon as you start 
Chrome.
There are three radio buttons to pick from, but I chose to open with a 
specific page or pages, which is the third radio button.
Under this, you can type in the URL of the web site that you want to open 
when you start Chrome.
Under this, there is a link where you can add more pages you want to show 
when Chrome starts up.

Now, we are up to the search engin heading.
This is a heading.
There are headings on this settings page.
I chose to use Google search engin in the address bar. This is a combo box.
The next heading, is on start up.
Finally, here is where you set up your home page.
There are three radio buttons here.
I chose the third one, to open a selected page or selected pages.
Next, I was able to enter:
www.Google.Com.
That is my home page that will open each time I start Chrome.
Next important group of settings, the advanced settings.
Now, you have to press enter on the advanced settings button before more 
headings of settings will show.
The Advanced settings are collapsed, so you have to press enter to show more 
headings of settings.
Now that these advanced settings are open, we get to the next heading of 
settings.

There is much more we can customize under the advanced settings.
Privacy and security heading:
Down arrow from here, and you hear:
Use a web service to resolve navigation errors.
You have a clickable, and a toggle.
Press spacebar to toggle this on or off.
Again, ignore the clickables.
Now you have:
Use a prodiction service to enable you in searches.
I left this unchecked.
Next, you have a setting to speed up the loading of web pages:
I checked this with spacebar.
The next three settings I just left alone.
I checked the one that says:
Use a web service to help with spelling.
I leave manage certificates alone.
Next, you have content settings, but this is not a new heading.
We are still working with the same heading.
The only thing of interest here, is the clear history button.
This was available in the virtical menu, so don't worry about this.
Now, we get to the next heading of settings.
Passwords and forms:
Under this heading, just make sure that you check to be able to have Chrome 
save passwords.

Languages Heading:
I did nothing with this.
Downloads heading:
This is where you choose where you want your downloads to be saved on your 
computer.

Printing heading:
I did nothing with this.
Accessibility heading:
I did nothing with this.
Now, we have the System heading:
Down arrow, and you hear:
Continue running background apps, when Google Chrome is Closed.
I have this unchecked.
Next,
Use hard ware excelloration when Available.
I have this checked.
Next, you hear:
Open proxy settings button.
I left this alone.
Last Heading LOL!
Reset.
Here, you can reset all settings back to their origional.
We are done with Settings.
Now, just press CTRL+F4 to get back to the Freedom Scientific Web site.
This settings web page, opens in another tab.
That is it for settings.
Notice, we made a lot of changes under the advanced settings. You cannot see 
these, unless you press enter to expand these.
Now, press the Alt key again. Up arrow once to get to the end of the menu 
where we were with the settings.
You see exit, up arrow and you see the help sub menu, right under the 
settings choice.
I press right arrow on this help sub menu, and you can enter on the help 
center to get a lot of help using Chrome.

To open a web site, just press CTRL+L or Alt+D and type the URL.
Chrome for me, is so much quicker with web sites that involve streamming TV 
and Watching movies, and so on.

For me, Chrome opens large news sites very quickly compared to IE.
Lastly, All JAWS and NVDA navigation key commands work in Chrome. For 
example, you can press F7 to open a list of links with JAWS, and the 
elements list with NVDA. All of that is the exact same.

The presence of variable will depend on what you are ordering. I selected a
DIY frame, and a combo list was presented with a style type to pick. But
regardless, I was not able to work the buttons after that.

But I did see a thread on the JFW list with a similar issue in selecting
something on the screen. Here is that solution:

To select the tick box with JAWS, simply press the bypass key, JAWS key+3
then space bar.  This will tick it.

Give that  a try and let us know.

On Hollar.com, there are no variables.  There are no elements other than the
quantity edit field which is set to 1 by default and the add to shopping
cart button.  You enter the quantity of the item you want if if it is more
than 1 and click on the button to add it to your cart.  But no keystroke
will activate it with JAWS or any other screen reader.

I'm speculating that in the case where you cannot press the "Add to Cart
Button" there is some other element (checkbox, combo box, editable combo
box, edit field) that needs to be used/selected before the button will
activate. For a simple example, if the quantity edit field is blank, then a
number needs first to be entered. In other cases, I've seen where a size or
a color choice must first be selected before the button can be activated.
There are so many variables in a simple shopping app that is dependent on
the item itself, that it's hard to pin down a specific problem related to
JAWS.

At times when this happens I find that using the Jaws links menu will work.
Insert plus F7, arrow to the link if necessary and tab down to activate link
and press enter. Could be I am all wet but it's worth a try.  Tom

Just a comment about the fact that I just went to two different websites to
purchase items and in both of them I was unable to add the item to my cart.
I am so sick of this. I can look it up and find it, but then can't get

Since updating to 1803, sporadically Jaws refuses to read the body of some

Goto the Jaws window "Insert+j" and select Language submenu, and open this
with right arrow.
Arrow down to "Voice profiles" submenu, and open this.
Arrow up to "Create new" and press enter.
Follow the instructions in the dialogbox, and when done, remember to save
the spanish profile as the default profile.
This will make it possible for you to change between the languages, by using
the Insert+ctrl+s menu.

Thanks. Maybe jaws need to look into this. Probably most of us use several 
languages when reading a web page or a document. It is nice having automatic 
language detaction but also having control over will be nice.

At least from JAWS UI, in a given voice profile you can only set speed and 
punctuation on a per-language basis.
As an alternative, you may create a new voice profile whose primary language 
is Spanish and switch to it with CTRL+JAWS+S. However, this has the 
disadvantage of language detection feature not working automatically.

Try the following:
1. While in your browser / on the internet, open the Settings Center, Insert
/ Jaws key + 6, on the number row, or Insert / Jaws key + F2, arrow to
Settings Center, and press enter.

2. Arrow down to, punctuation closed..., right arrow to open, down arrow to,
customize punctuation, & press the spacebar to open.  Make sure you
press the spacebar to open & not enter. Pressing enter will close the
Settings Center.

3. Tab to the Advanced button & press spacebar to open.  The first item in
the list will be, blank, so tab 1 time to, edit description button, &
press the spacebar to open.  The word, blank, will be in this edit field.
Delete the word, blank, put a space with the spacebar, & press enter.

4. Tab to okay, press the spacebar, tab to okay, press the spacebar, tab to
apply, press the spacebar, tab to okay, press the spacebar to save your
changes & close the Settings Center.

If you want this for all applications, after you open the Settings Center
press, control, shift, + D, to open the Settings Center default all
applications and follow the steps above.

Did not have any issues with getting W10. JAWS told me the persentage of 
download and install. It did take about 30 minutes.

I was doing house cleaning on my Windows ten and Jaws 18 April release. In
the process decided to hit the windows key and check for up-dates. Low and
behold!! 1803 was said to be ready.

A: waiting for it to get to the point to start to the final stage, of
finishing took 27/28 minutes thinking. Very little chatter in that process,
more like none. Just to let you know and I have a fast internet connection.
My reboot/restart, is slow coming up so went away for 25 minutes and right
around then the screen came up, Had to get my son's eyes!! I did not know
Narrator's empowering key stroke to get started. Anyway when going, this
voice speaking!! I liked it!! I noticed in this table one changes can be
made. The expert computers here can comment, Me did not touch nothing. Then
in the process of tabbing and carefully listening.. Error in Sign in.. So,
my son and I figured out go back to accessibility and there might be an area
for shut down. Yet, that brought back to this window and so what the heck
and did a restart!! Guess what?!?!? It said there was four more
crucial/Critical up-dates, bingo and while restart/rebooting? There comes
Desk-top!! I can tell you though my J-hot key was there and my son
confirmed, we had to rid it and apply and then ok and then go back and reset
and bingo it worked again.

Everything seems to be working fine. Now have to check out the new voices
for Narrator!!

I use the WLM you speak of which has been discontinued by Microsoft.

The auto complete does work but you have to tab away and then tab back.

This is much easier to do in VLC. In fact, I have never successfully gotten
this to work in winamp at all. According to the winamp forum, it can be
done, but there are no clear steps, and apparently, it is also dependent on
your file format/decoding. But you could try this, and see if it works.

Open the video. Press the applications key, and go to audio track submenu.
Most likely, only one track will show, even if the container file contains
multiple audio tracks. Strangely, if you go to file info with alt-3, and
select the audio tracks tab, all audio tracks will show. But in my
experience, you cannot select them this way, either.

Try searching for a splitter plugin, if you want.

Or, just download VLC. Sorry, but it really is a better player for videos,
with much more under the hood and customisability. I say this as someone who
still uses Winamp for music playback, so it's not like I have anything
against the program. It's just that sometimes something that's advertised as
performing multiple tasks is really better at one than another.

Now, if anyone else has successfully gotten the audio track submenu in
winamp video play to work correctly, please do chime in, because I've been
curious about this since at least 2011.

As far as I know, winamp doesn't even have the ability to sync soft
subtitles with video. So again, it really doesn't seem well designed for
this purpose.

That is I am looking. Do not like menues but would like to have letters. 
Also some how program is on top and the default apps that comes with W10 are 
below. Can I high programs in the start menue? Can they go to apps instead?

Your are right on this. However, the checkboxes about which I want to know 
are those available in tree views.
For example, when in Classic Start Menu settings you choose Windows 7 style 
advanced settings, you can choose wetter initial focus is in the search box, 
or, in Windows XP style, wetter recent programs have keyboard shortcuts with 
numbers, initial letters or none, or additional search providers if you use 
the Windows 2000 and earlier classic style which had a Search sub-menu. In 
all styles you can specify which options to display (Documents, Control 
Panel etc.) and how, and here it would be useful to know instantly the 
states of checkboxes in a way similar to Folder Options tree view which 
reports On or Off after the option name.

The only checkboxes, so to speak, that are read by Jaws are the Basic 
Settings & the All Settings radio buttons.  You will get these 2 radio 
buttons after you click on a setting link, i.e; Open Start menu , press 
enter on either, Windows Classic link, Windows XP link, Windows Vista / 
Windows 7 link.  Now after you press enter, tab to the Basic Settings / All 
Settings radio buttons, choose which one you want, tab to, Okay, & press 
enter.  Now your settings are changed, but for me anyways, I don't know how 
the chosen settings will look / be read by Jaws until afterward.  This is 
why I say it takes some playing around with the Classic, XP, or Vista / Win 
7settings, & both the Basic / All settings to get a feel for how Jaws will 
read for you.  Personally, I don't care about the Explorer & IE settings, & 
only configure the Start Menu settings.

configure them.  for example, you need to configure the Start Menu to show 
the way you want it.


To do this:

Answers you were given are for quickly opening Volume Mixer, but they 
actually don't change the volume.
In case your keyboard has no volume keys, JAWS provides two scripts, 
IncreaseSystemVolume and DecreaseSystemVolume, that respectively raises or 
lower the volume from any application, with no need to open any additional 
window, and they announce the volume level to which you just set.
By default these scripts have no key assignment, but it is easy to map to a 
convenient keystroke:
1. Press INSERT+J to open the JAWS window or context menu, depending on your 
setting.
2. Press ALT+U to open the Utilities menu or sub-menu, depending on your 
setting.

3. Press K to open Keyboard Manager.
4. When Keyboard Manager opens, press TAB to move to the right pane, that 
is, the one containing key mappings of the file selected in the left pane, 
that should be Default if you launched Keyboard Manager as I indicated. If 
you ran Keyboard Manager in a different way, press CTRL+SHIFT+D to make sure 
you're working in the Default file instead of the one specific for the 
application from which you opened Keyboard Manager.
5. In the list view, find the script whose name is DecreaseSystemVolume. 
You'll find that it is not assigned to any key.

6. Press CTRL+A to add a keystroke to this script.
7. Press the keystroke you want to use to lower the volume. In my desktop 
computer I use CTRL+SCROLL LOCK+DOWN ARROW.

8. Press ENTER, and choose OK in the confirmation dialog which appears.
9. You'll be returned to the list view of scripts. Do the same with the 
IncreaseSystemVolume script, which you could assign to CTRL+SCROLL LOCK+UP 
ARROW.

10. Close Keyboard Manager with ALT+F4.

Advantages of this method are that volume is changed on the fly with no need 
to change the application, and it works even when you are on the Windows 
Logon screen. As a disadvantage, these keystrokes don't work when you aren't 
using JAWS or when you are in a program in which you configured JAWS to be 
in Sleep Mode.

1, go to desktop,
Windows key+m,

2, press the keystroke,
Ctrl+spacebar,
To unselect all icons.

3, press the applications key, and down arrow and enter on, New sub menu.

4, now arrow and enter on,
New shortcut.

5,Now type the following in the edit box, sndvol 6, tab next, press enter.
You will see/hear;
sndvol.exe
Tab finish press enter.

Now, if you would like a hot-key,

1, desktop,
Press the letter "s" until you hear,
sndvol.exe.

2, now press alt+enter to bring up the properties,

3, tab until you hear;
Shortcut key none,
Here you could type "v"=volume or what ever letter you wish, Now press
enter.
So, alt+ctrl+v would bring up the sndvol properties page.

[JAWS-Users] W10 start menu

Using JAWS 2018. I needed to reinstall W10. Now when I press the window key to 
start, and use down arrow, I see program menu and not apps. To see the apps I 
have to open start go down and open program and down until I find apps. Before 
apps was on top.

You might need to make Winamp to re-associate the files. Open Winamp
Preferences dialog with CTRL+P, go to the File Types leaf in the tree view,
press the button to select all file tipes and then the Close button or
ESCAPE key.
A UAC dialog asking for Winamp elevation should appear, press ALT+Y for Yes.
Once it is done, press WINDOWS+I to open the new Settings Apps, go to and
press ENTER on Apps and Features, then do the same with the subcategory
Default Apps.
In this subcategory, you will find buttons with the default program for
different things. Find the one for Video Player, press it with SPACEBAR and
Winamp should appear here to be picked.

Try to close it to get out from there. I think it will keep to zero. I went 
to control P to change the setting because like you it was driving me nuts.

Here is where you put in your URL that you want to show as soon as you
start Chrome.

There are three radio buttons to pick from, but I chose to open with a
specific page or pages, which is the third radio button.

Under this, you can type in the URL of the web site that you want to
open when you start Chrome.

Under this, there is a link where you can add more pages you want to
show when Chrome starts up.

Now, we are up to the search engin heading.

This is a heading.

There are headings on this settings page.

I chose to use Google search engin in the address bar. This is a combo box.

The next heading, is on start up.

Finally, here is where you set up your home page.

There are three radio buttons here.

I chose the third one, to open a selected page or selected pages.

Next, I was able to enter:

www.Google.Com.

That is my home page that will open each time I start Chrome.

Next important group of settings, the advanced settings.

Now, you have to press enter on the advanced settings button before more
headings of settings will show.

The Advanced settings are collapsed, so you have to press enter to show
more headings of settings.

Now that these advanced settings are open, we get to the next heading of
settings.

There is much more we can customize under the advanced settings.

Privacy and security heading:

Down arrow from here, and you hear:

Use a web service to resolve navigation errors.

You have a clickable, and a toggle.

Press spacebar to toggle this on or off.

Again, ignore the clickables.

Now you have:

Use a prodiction service to enable you in searches.

I left this unchecked.

Next, you have a setting to speed up the loading of web pages:

I checked this with spacebar.

The next three settings I just left alone.

I checked the one that says:

Use a web service to help with spelling.

I leave manage certificates alone.

Next, you have content settings, but this is not a new heading.

We are still working with the same heading.

The only thing of interest here, is the clear history button.

This was available in the virtical menu, so don't worry about this.

Now, we get to the next heading of settings.

Passwords and forms:

Under this heading, just make sure that you check to be able to have
Chrome save passwords.

Languages Heading:

I did nothing with this.

Downloads heading:

This is where you choose where you want your downloads to be saved on
your computer.

Printing heading:

I did nothing with this.

Accessibility heading:

I did nothing with this.

Now, we have the System heading:

Down arrow, and you hear:

Continue running background apps, when Google Chrome is Closed.

I have this unchecked.

Next,

Use hard ware excelloration when Available.

I have this checked.

Next, you hear:

Open proxy settings button.

I left this alone.

Last Heading LOL!

Reset.

Here, you can reset all settings back to their origional.

We are done with Settings.

Now, just press CTRL+F4 to get back to the Freedom Scientific Web site.

This settings web page, opens in another tab.

That is it for settings.

Notice, we made a lot of changes under the advanced settings. You cannot
see these, unless you press enter to expand these.

Now, press the Alt key again. Up arrow once to get to the end of the
menu where we were with the settings.

You see exit, up arrow and you see the help sub menu, right under the
settings choice.

I press right arrow on this help sub menu, and you can enter on the help
center to get a lot of help using Chrome.

To open a web site, just press CTRL+L or Alt+D and type the URL.

Chrome for me, is so much quicker with web sites that involve streamming
TV and Watching movies, and so on.

For me, Chrome opens large news sites very quickly compared to IE.

Lastly, All JAWS navigation key commands work in Chrome. For example,
you can press F7 to open a list of links with JAWS.

I understand your problem. For some reason, you're getting stuck after you
press ENTER on the dialog to type the phrase to search and/or choose a
module.
To see if you are having a problem with Results Viewer infrastructure
besides Internet access to the different services, I suggest you to open the
Speech History by pressing INSERT+SPACEBAR and the letter h. If this feature
doesn't work, you are having a problem related to Internet Explorer, because
Results Viewer uses IE components in the background. If this works fine,
your problem is related to a firewall (or other security tool, either
hardware or software) that's preventing JAWS from making outcoming
connections to the Internet.
Checking this will allow us to give specific procedures.

Hope it clarifies something.

One time I uninstalled Internet Explorer and I was unable to use this
feature at all because the Results Viewer depended on IE, but this issue is
not similar to things like a specific lookup module not returning results,

you most often use, keystrokes for Research It activating other unrelated
scripts, etc.
So, without getting angry, it would be nice you give more information on
what's happening.

I understand your problem. For some reason, you're getting stuck after you 
press ENTER on the dialog to type the phrase to search and/or choose a 
module.
To see if you are having a problem with Results Viewer infrastructure 
besides Internet access to the different services, I suggest you to open the 
Speech History by pressing INSERT+SPACEBAR and the letter h. If this feature 
doesn't work, you are having a problem related to Internet Explorer, because 
Results Viewer uses IE components in the background. If this works fine, 
your problem is related to a firewall (or other security tool, either 
hardware or software) that's preventing JAWS from making outcoming 
connections to the Internet.

Checking this will allow us to give specific procedures.

Hope it clarifies something.

Not sure what the status is nowadays, but there was someone who wrote
scripts for iTunes. However, as Apple probably keps changing it, the scripts
would become less and less useful unless they were consistently updated with

Revisiting an old question.  Wit, it seems, most everyone noticing the
hangup of Internet Explorer at inopportune moments, is this due to the way
it is now interacting with Jaws?  Is there a fix that the developers need to
buckle down and work on, or is this an uncooperative Microsoft issue?  I
have noticed this behavior in the last several versions of Jaws, but what
can we users do to help "make it better?"

Good point, but since it is invoked with a couple key strokes it shouldn't 
be a large deal. I would imagine if say JAWS would happen to crash so that 
the system would need to be rebooted then your screen would go back on. Now 
that is probably worse case event.

If your lap top already has such a feature then it is kind of redundant. How 
ever if it does not or you forget the key command then it comes in to play.

Theoretically, the three major browsers (IE, Firefox and Chrome) are fully 
compatible with JAWS, and now JAWS 2018 and 18 with latest updates are 
starting to provide Edje support. That last support is currently very 
unstable.
Personally, despite the Firefox Quantum disaster that I hope Mozilla will 
fix soon, I find that the browser which offers, in conjunction, the best 
navigation experience with JAWS is Firefox. Chrome would be the second, but 
there are important Chrome issues handling edit boxes, especially on ritch 
text edit controls. The advantage of using IE is that it is the core used by 
JAWS support for virtual documents, so text selection and copying with 
Virtual PC cursor work better than in other browsers.

I frequent are no longer fully accessible with IE.   Can you recommend what
browsers are now fully compatible with Jaws 2018?  I have tried Google 
Chrome but am having difficulties using it.

You should get one the first time you buy JAWS and if you have an SMA you
should get one each time a new version of JAWS comes out. That original CD
on the jacket will note your authorization code which you will need if you
have a crash and have to reinstall, or if you get a new computer and have to
reinstall, as the SMA upgrade CDs do not note that code. The CD usually
comes several weeks after the release of the new version, so you may opt to
download the new version from the web site. If you do not have a version of
JAWS installed on your machine when you install the downloaded upgrade you
will be prompted to authorize the new install.

I have heard that using Shift with delete sometimes works when using just
the delete key or when the delete menu item doesn't work.  You might want to
give that a try.  I don't use WLM but you might use the application key on
the junk folder and see if you have an option to empty the folder or to
delete all messages in the folder. .  I checked online and found a post from
someone that said if you go into the contextual menu of the junk folder (by
right-clicking on the folder or using the application key), open properties
and then either use the OK or cancel button that you will then be able to
delete the items.  Again, not being a WLM user I don't know if any of these
methods will work for you but these were a few of the resolutions posted
online.

the messages have become currupted.
dtry pressing control delete on these messages. i would also see how many
messages that might be in your deleted folder. i think there is a limit on 
how

many messages can be there.
this could happen if you don't have wlm set to delete the messages from the
deleted folder on exit.
