Re: [JAWS-Users] Braille display? (UNCLASSIFIED)
I have a Refreshabraille and its great! The only problem I've had is JAWS. JAWS and the Refreshabraille simply do not get along. However, if you're going to be using this with IOS devices, its great! Oh, and as far as the usb thing, its a pain to connect it to the refreshabraille, but with a little tinkering you can do it. I just leave the cable attached wherever I go even though I usually don't use it via USB. Its better for keeping things together too anyway. For these I use a UNIX terminal emulator like terraterm, switching between the Jaws and PC cursor to read and write on the window. [JAWS-Users] languages in JAWS 15
Good morning all, and happy holidays! Sorry to bother because I know today is Christmas for many of us, But I'd thought I'd ask in case anyone knew; Where can I get language packs that would allow JAWS to read certain languages while using another one as its primary. E.G., how can I make it so that JAWS will read French, for example, correctly on a page while I'm using English as its main language. I know how to do this in word, at least with Spanish, but what about webpages? Also, any language pack or something like that that would allow it to read simble-based writing systems like Arabic, Japanese or Chinese? JAWS reads them but it only reads the simbles and they change every time even when on the same line for some reason, But I wonder if there's any language solution that would allow it to read it correctly without switching from English? Something that would just read that language when it found it kind of thing. Thanks, Jorge For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

If the Victor Reader can't read N4As, no. Try transferring some of the songs on to the SD card for the Victor Reader. If it can't play, then you'd have to take all your library, or the songs you want, and turn them into mp3s. You can do that at http://www.zamzar.com. Interesting. I was able to do it via Firefox after I realized it was a graphic and not an actual link. I'm using the latest firefox, along with the latest flash and JAWS 15. As far as IE, I think its having some major issues because IE on my end won't play youtube videos either. I mean I can click on a youtube link but no audio is played, and when I double checked with a sighted family member there was no video to it either. This is on a win/7 laptop with Jaws 13. Today, I had a very very scarey incident happen when I turned on my laptop. Jaws came up loud and clear, but I heard no windows sounds, that was the weirdest thing to ever happen and I am just not sure why that happened. I could not get to desktop, start menu, sys tray nothing. I felt the fan and air flow and knew the laptop was on, but not any window sounds, then after a few minutes like around 5 long enough for me to make coffee, the window's sound finally came up but it wasn't very loud. So I checked the system's tray, and this is where I usually find that message stating, the audio device is not running, could that have any cause for window's sound not to have made it's boot up chime? Re: [JAWS-Users] can the 20-digit authorization be retrievedwithout using a disc
Hello Hamit: I don't think you can make an authorization CD yourself, and I don't think FS will send you one because they have no way of verifying your story that you lost the first one to begin with. But, I'm guessing if you know sufficient programming you can find it. It should be under program files/Freedom Scientific/Authorization, in one of those dll files, at least that's for JAWS 15. If you decide to try and find it though you have to be very careful as those files are crucial for JAWS and any accidental changes can damage the program. That's the only way I can think of finding it if you can't get it any other way though. I had that just happen to me today in fact. This really started back in 2011 when I got my laptop, and discovering some of my jaws disks were mixed up with another's, did nothing but create havoc. FS did give me my correct 20 digit number back then, but remember the other day when, I posted regarding getting a Jaws authorization message, and that if not activated, Jaws would be running in 40 minute mode? Well, that happened not because of a dead battery, but because somewhere the other 20 digit number not mine was still in the system, and when the rightful owner updated their SMA, it showed up on my laptop as well, but it wasn't showing my serial number, but a different one. I spoke to Dennis awhile ago and he was very helpful to help me remove the wrong 20 digit number and put in my number, then after a brief pause, the system on their end updated and is now showing my serial number. So be careful when updating, if your not sure of your serial or 20 digit number, you could end up experiencing what happened to me. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws Authorization
My only suggestion would be to run it in 40 minute mode and see if it runs out. I remember on another laptop I had previously it used to tell me the same thing when I plugged it in and then when I unplugged it. It never actually ran out, it would just warn me about that every so often. Anoying but never actually real so didn't pay attention to it much. Anyway, just test the 40 minute mode to make sure it in fact runs out. If that's the case then just call FS. [JAWS-Users] jaws and youtube
Hi all: Just had a quick question. When Igo to Youtube, to watch a video, I usually get the play button that I have to select before the video will start playing. However, some videos start playing on ther own, which is fine for me. However, I noticed something strange a couple of days ago. In one video which autoplayed, JAWS had trouble reading me the page. Some how or other it partially crashed, meaning I had to close my Internet Browser in order to recover JAWS functionality. I reopened and tried it several times more but it still didn't work, so I decided to just listen to the video till it ended and then used JAWS again and that solved the issue. Does anyone know whether this is a JAWS bug or an browser issue? I'm using JAWS 15 with the latest Firefox. All of them are initiated by typing the appropriate symbol three times and then immediately pressing enter. A regular horizontal line is dash. A bold horizontal line is underscore (shift of the dash). A double-line is equals. A line of asterisks is with the asterisk key. Note: Depending on which version of Word you use, you may need to make sure the borders checkbox is checked in Word Options. In MsWord 2007, you will find the checkbox by going to Word Options, Proofing, Auto-Correct options, and Auto-correct as you Type. Take my advice, I don't use it anyway. The new Text Analyzer feature is a tool that notifies you of these errors in your document by using a spoken message or WAV file. You can configure JAWS to announce discrepancies by count, by description, or by sound while proofreading the document by line, sentence, paragraph, or Say All command. Braille users will benefit from this since a sound can be emitted before the user has time to read the entire line looking for errors. Text Analyzer is off by default. To turn it on, do one of the following: Use the new layered keystroke, INSERT+SPACEBAR, T. By pressing and releasing INSERT+SPACEBAR, and then pressing T, the Text Analyzer can be toggled on or off. Use the Adjust JAWS Options dialog box (INSERT+V) to select Text Analyzer, and then select the type of alert notification to use. Use Settings Center. Press INSERT+F2 and select Settings Center. In the Search edit box, type Text Analyzer, press DOWN ARROW to move to Text Analyzer in the filtered results, and press SPACEBAR to select an alert notification. If multiple issues are identified in the document, press ALT+WINDOWS Key+I to move to the next item, or ALT+SHIFT+WINDOWS Key+I to move to the previous item. [JAWS-Users] ie problem
Hi all: Just wondering, I'm using IE8 on a windows 64 bit machine running Win7 and JFW 12. Lately I've been coding a site which I've been programing completely on html 4.01 and javascript. It works well for sighted users, and runs smoothly with NVDA and Voice Over, but for some reason whenever I go to it with IE and JFW 12.58 all it says is blank, blank, blank as I try to move, and it won't allow me to bring up links or anything. Is this an IE issue or a JFW issue? Is it something to do with the software or the way I'm coding my sight that won't allow it to run with JFW? I guess David chimes in when he's tired of reading about programming smile So, this will be my last reply - please continue this thread on the programming list. The C# compiler is located in C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\csc.exe for the 32-bit version and 64-bit C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\csc.exe Csc.exe is a command line compiler, so you have to open a Windows console / command prompt to compile and read compiler warnings and errors etc. The above path is related to version 4 of the .NET framework. I recommend adding C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319 to your path environment variable. Doing that will allow you to simply type csc.exe some_program.cs when you're ready to compile your program. If you don't add it to your path you'll need to type: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\csc.exe some_program.cs every time you compile. A bit cumbersome to say the least. So, let's pretend that you've written the well known Hello, World! Program in C# and named the file containing the C# source code HelloWorld.cs. To compile the program type: Csc.exe HelloWorld.cs This will produce HelloWorld.exe. If your code contains errors the compiler will tell you on which line etc. Good luck! -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Jorge Paez Sent: 22. mai 2011 02:52 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] programing environments and JFW12 for .net, how can I compile it once I write it? [JAWS-Users] media player
Hi All: I'm looking for a media player solution that is similar to iTunes. It doesn't have to be a store, just to be able to play music and handle mp3s well. I already tried iTunes but it was reacting super slow. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit and J12. Jorge For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
Re: [JAWS-Users] media player
I thought that was unaccessible for the most part. Can you make libraries on there like you can on iTunes? Is there something wrong with Windows Media Player for those tasks? Consider Winamp, downloadable from many places. there is also the JLC Player (which I don't know much about). - Original Message - From: Jorge Paez computertechjorgep...@gmail.com To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Friday, May 27, 2011 12:52 AM Subject: [JAWS-Users] media player Hi All: I'm looking for a media player solution that is similar to iTunes. [JAWS-Users] embosser
Hi all: Two quick questions. First, I have a small Blazy emboser that I used to use with my Braillelite that I no longer use. My question is can I use it with my new laptop? If so, what app do I need? I don't have Duxberry or any of that. Any free ones? Also, when using Sonar, can I emboss using that embosser?
