Re: [JAWS-Users] read alternate text using Jaws

2018-06-30 Thread Stephen Bennett
Hi There

Not sure whether you've received a reply to this;
Jaws treats the picture as an object. Press Control Shift O to bring up the
list of objects then find your picture in the list and press Enter. This
selects the object. If Jaws still doesn't read the alt text, at least having
the object selected will give you more options for dealing with it.

When using Jaws to read word document that included picture with alternate
text, can blind people read the alternate text without turning navigation
quick keys on? I tried pressing up arrow to read line by line, and when
focus move to the inserted picture, Jaws didn't read that text. I want to
read it so please help me.

Hi tom and Sharon

If you go to Jaws Options, then braille, just before the OK button there
should be a checkbox for Show Braille load Errors. If you uncheck this, the
message should go away. I've checked this in Jaws 17.

Hope this helps,

Re: [JAWS-Users] BrailleSense U2 QWERTY

2018-03-31 Thread Stephen Bennett
Hi tom

I've done a number of these and, if you let the hims driver install where it
wants to, Jaws should find it.

When installing the hims driver, there are two or three separate pieces of
software within the driver package. Each one has a Finish Button and it's a bit
confusing because when you press Finish the process starts again. It's very
easy to assume you've made a booboo and people often press Cancel or close the
installer too soon. just let the thing go round a few times till it goes away.
The other thing to remember is to not connect the U2 till the Hims driver is
finished installing.

Shout if you need further assistance.

Good Afternoon,

I have a rather odd issue with a webpage and JAWS.

I will paste the link to the page below so that if anyone would like to take
a look, feel free.

The page is in either Spanish or Italian. The speech is very fast and I need
it slower to figure out the language, I think Spanish.

That's not my problem, though.

When I select the English option, it actually goes to the English page and
shows only English on the screen. However, Jaws is still reading in the
other language.

Why would this happen and how can I fix it?

Here is the link.

Re: [JAWS-Users] FW: Question on an IE website

2017-03-29 Thread Stephen Bennett
Hi Mr. Ed and List

As a non-visual user I can't comment on the left side right side thing, but
certainly got the stories to read with Jaws, running Win 10 and Jaws 17.

The first link I clicked opened up a whole new page with the story on it.
Other links seemed to act more like Tab Panels, where pressing Enter opens
up a Tab within the page and shows the story. These were still labeled as
links though. It seems to be a very busy page and is making my machine work
quite hard while I'm on it, so Jaws might behave badly on a busy page like
that.

I think the content is findable with Jaws but you may need to use a
combination of techniques in order to find it. Maybe some of these:
the N key to find pieces of text which don't contain links
The Virtual Find, Control F, you could search for words from the link
or, just good ol' down arrow lots of times.

Hope this helps.

I can't recall but I found a way to reset the setting so insert was the

Some time ago I updated to Windows 10 and all worked well. However a few

the Yoga did an update including bios. Now my insert key is no longer the

[JAWS-Users] FW: Adobe Digital editions and Other Epyb Readers

2016-06-08 Thread Stephen Bennett
Hi All

I'd be very keen to learn about people's experiences with Epub readers, for
both protected and unprotected books. Digital editions seems to read the
last line of each page twice and miss out the top line of the next page.

All the best

Stephen

[JAWS-Users] Find Command in Outlook 2003

2011-05-17 Thread Stephen Bennett
My friend uses this program at work so it's possible it's a corporate version
of some kind. They're using Jaws 12 and can't seem to find any kind of Find
Command. Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Stephen

Well, for messages, there's the control+shift+f command. If you're
referring to text, then I don't think there's one. At least I'm not aware of
it.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws won't read updated info

2011-02-13 Thread Stephen Bennett
Hi Fanus and Listers

At this stage I can't get Cricinfo to work either, having tried all sorts of
tricks with jaws 6, jaws 11 and N V D A. I can, however, with Jaws 6, get
live scores to work on the Cricket Australia website
www.cricket.com.au
Even if that site doesn't cover the match you're interested in, it may mean
that some other cricket site might do so, and present the updates in a
jaws-friendly fashion.

Cheers

Stephen

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws won't read updated info

Hi Listers
I follow the cricket on cricinfo.com. For each match there
is a line where the score is given, then a blank line and
then a line with info about the batsmen and bowling figures.
Even if I switch jaws to all it does not read the updated
info automatically.
Is there a way when on one match that one can tell jaws to
read the update info on those lines automatically?
Regards
Fanus
