I've had it fail a couple of times, but if the download didn't complete, you
wouldn't be able to install the update at all.

Hi Jerry,
I would abandon the update Jaws route in the future,
and just download the new release from their website and run it.
The update feature in Jaws doesn't always work correctly, and the download
process
appears to be rather slow compared to directly downloading the executable.
You shouldn't miss out on new releases, Mike posts them to the list when

I haven't, but missing or corrupt dlls can happen with various programme
instalations from time to time.

This is one reason why it is helpful to have two or more screen-readers on

Hi Michelle,

Try the following:
Note: If you only want this setting for your browser disregard step 2.
1. Open your default browser, & press INSERT+6 on the numbers row to open
Settings Center.
2. Press DOWN ARROW until you reach the item entitled "Text Processing",
right arrow to open.
3. Press DOWN ARROW to reach the item entitled "General", right arrow to
open.
4. Down arrow to, Detect Languages, & if this is checked press the spacebar
to uncheck it.
5. Tab to, Okay, press enter to save your changes & close Settings Center.

You can also open Jaws quick settings while on the Internet, navigate to
Detect languages, uncheck it, tab to Okay & press enter.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS update not completing

2016-03-19 Thread Adrian Spratt
You're not alone. It's why many of us recommend downloading the file from the
FS website and installing from it instead of via the JAWS update function.
Another reason for doing so is that you will have the current release .exe file
on your system in the event you later need to do a repair or if you later want
to revert to it when a later release creates new problems, as sometimes happens.

I've noticed this on several occasions now, including the latest update: the
JAWS update tool starts installing the update but never finishes - I have to
reboot the machine and re-install.

In the latest case (this morning), the last message displayed indicated taht
it was installing JAWSPatch.

Have others seen this or am I alone?

In the end, I did manage to install the latest version and it's now,
apparently, working on this machine.

Hi Tom,
What I always do is go to the Freedomscientific's download page and download
the entire new copy of JAWS that includes the update. I just save the
download to my computer and install JAWS all over again. That way, it always
works and you will have the update and a fresh installed copy of JAWS. Take
care, Tom and let me know if you have any questions. Have a great one.

My problem of getting the message that Jaws updates are available is

[JAWS-Users] jaws update

2015-04-28 Thread Marvin Hunkin
Hi.

Switching voices, when switching from say serena high quality vocaliser to
jaws eloquence, goes very fast like chip munks, or some times goes back to
the serena voice, very slow, the only way to fix this, is to go to the jaws
voices, create new voice, select eloquence, set the pitch, punctuation, then
save.

Freedom scientific says this is a bug, have let them know and they say they
will fix this in the next update, maybe next month.

Running windows 8.1 64 bit enterprise on a Toshiba satellite pro c-50-a
model.

 Hi listers,
i apologize for the novice question, but have reached the end of my
 admittedly limited patience.

Quite simply, I'm running JAWS 12 on a Windows 7 system with a
Realtech HD soundcard. With my previous SB Live card in XP it was a
simple matter of plug and play to swap between headphones and speakers
but this does not seem to be the case now. While I generally work with
headphones, there are times when I wish to switch to speaker
configuration and would like instructions on how to do this. My
sighted husband is available in case of major disasters, but his usual
approach is to disable JAWS while stumbling toward whatever solution
and he is not particularly good at explaining his steps so that I can
learn them. In this situation he had configured the speakers
temporarily, but at reboot I was unable to bring up anything but
system sounds via speakers, though again headphones worked fine. I've
attempted to look around the audio manager and speakers dialogues but
still seem to be missing something, so step by step help would be
 best. Many thanks.

HI Susan, I want to make shore I understand what's going on. Are you
saying

that you can get windows sounds, and jaws, but not if you plug in the
speekers? if your using more then 1 sound card it would be possable for
jaws

to go threw 1 sound card, while windows sounds go threw the other.

As for your hubby, well, you could just keep asking him to fix it over and
over, and maybe he will ither fix it for good, or simply explaine to you
how

he did it so you will stop bugging him.

if that don't work, try blackmail. LOL! smiley, just kidding.

Hi listers,
i apologize for the novice question, but have reached the end of my
admittedly limited patience.

Susan

Facebook really doesn't agree with jaws some of the time. I could be editing

So I was thinking maybe this update addressed some of those issues.
Maybe jaws is too fast for some of these web sites, not meaning it talks
fast, but just the program runs faster on win 7 than like say some of these
web pages don't load as fast, so jaws skips around until the page is loaded
then it works as it should, does that make sense?

So, do I first look in the default area to see if that jb or js or whatever

I want to give this a try since this improvement suppose to help with
certain web pages using something that causes jaws to stop speaking, I have

Here if you do not use your machine for 15 minutes, a screen saver pops
up disabling the keyboard, except that it allows you to enter your PW to
unlock the keyboard. Yesterday, until I installed the update, the

[JAWS-Users] Jaws Update Issue

2010-07-01 Thread Steve
Deanne,

What happens if you shut off your laptop and reboot?

Second, if the problem persists, try running a repair on Jaws. To do a repair,
use the Windows run command and tab to the Browse button. Navigate to where
you have a full download of the Jaws file saved. Go to the open combobox and
hit the end key, then type /type repair and press enter.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws Update Issue

2010-07-01 Thread Deanne Miller
Rebooting had exactly the same result. I tried it twice. As far as the run
command, I had no ability to use the keyboard because jaws wouldn't allow
it. It would simply announce unknown function and then say what the key
should do. I couldn't even shut jaws down.
A sighted friend of mine came over just a little while ago and used the
touch pad to do a repair on jaws. At least the touch pad and mouse buttons
were still working. Apparently, something had happened to one of the script
files during the update. It took a while, but it finally finished the
repair, restarted, and now seems to be running fine. We'll see what happens
when I reboot later.
I probably would have prevented this whole problem if I had run a repair on
jaws before I updated it. Just a thought. In the future, that's what I'll
do.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm sure they would have worked if I had been
able to use the keyboard.

[JAWS-Users] Jaws update to 10.154

2009-07-17 Thread Sarah anson
Hi,
I have a question. I just got my laptop with Vista and I was trying to update
to the jaws 10.154 for the 52 version. After accepting the uac prompt, which
jaws didn't read (jaws usually does read that stuff), it downloaded the jaws
and then said Please wait while your system is configured for Jaws. After
that it went to about 55 percent and then I got a werfault.exe application
exception error, followed by a run.dll one of the same kind. Have no clue what
that means. Then after I clicked okay on both of them, it said the update was
installed successfully and that Jaws made changes that required me to reboot my
computer. It now says I am running the 154 version. Is this okay? Should I go
back to the 152 version? Did any of those errors affect the jaws? I didn't get
that on my other computer when I updated, and don't even know what werfault.exe
is or what those errors mean.
Thanks,
Sarah A.

I tried to update JAWS 9 using the check for updates option, and I got the
following two error messages. I have never renamed or deleted any JAWS file,
so I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue and how to handle it.
Thanks. I hate to have to reinstall the whole program and redo all my
settings.

Vicki

JAWS Setup Package Error
The JAWS setup package could not install the required component JAWSPatch.
The process will now exit.

Enhancements in JAWS 9.0.2169 (May 2008)

The following reported items were addressed in this update. All
 enhancements
since the initial public beta release are included in the update.

 JAWS
 list of 2 items
. AVG Anti-Virus 8.0 software no longer fails when you start the
 application
 while JAWS is running.
. Resolved an issue where several customers reported installation error
 #824
when trying to install JAWS after running some a registry cleaner. This
 problem
no longer occurs with versions 9.0.2169 and later.
 list end

 AOL Instant Messenger
 list of 1 items
. The aimhelper.jsh file is now again included with JAWS 9.0. This file
refers to constants and global variables used by the AOL Instant
 Messenger
 help
 file script.
 list end

 Microsoft Excel
 list of 1 items
. JAWS now retains and reads column and row titles that you set in
 multiple
Excel worksheets. Before, when you returned to the previous worksheet,
 JAWS
would not announce column and row titles (CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+C and
 CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+R).
 list end

 Microsoft Internet Explorer
 list of 2 items
. After selecting the Skip to Content link on the Social Security
Administration Web page, JAWS now consistently moves to the next link
 when
 you press TAB.

. When you press ENTER to turn Forms Mode off, it now turns off as the
 Web
 page refreshes and updates.
 list end

 Microsoft Office
 list of 1 items
. JAWS no longer repeats the column and row information when navigating
 by
line (UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW) in a one row, one column table.
 list end

 Microsoft Outlook
 list of 3 items
. When moving through a menu tree list of folders in Outlook, JAWS
 correctly
announces folder names as you use the ARROW keys to navigate the list.
 Earlier,
JAWS would say scroll down symbol or scroll up symbol instead of the
 folder
 name.
. When navigating the list of folders in the Move Items dialog box
(CTRL+SHIFT+V) and the Copy Items dialog box (CTRL+SHIFT+Y), JAWS no
 longer
 announces
blank as you move from one folder to another.
. E-mail messages no longer close when you select and copy message text
using the APPLICATION Key's Copy command.
 list end

 Microsoft PowerPoint
 list of 1 items
. JAWS correctly reads text that is typed into PowerPoint edit fields
 (for
example, the File name field in the Open dialog box) when you use the
 Say
 Line
command (INSERT+UP ARROW). Previously, JAWS would announce blank.
 list end

 Microsoft Word
 list of 2 items
. JAWS now announces the Word Count dialog box statistics when you
 press
 ALT+T, W in Word 2007 or Word 2003 documents.
. JAWS now recognizes and announces when text wraps to the next line in
 any
text editor, word processor, or Web page when using the Say All command
 with
the read new line character function turned on. The User Reads Text
Containing New Line Character check box is in the Text Processing
 dialog
 box
 of the
Configuration Manager. When it is selected, JAWS announces the words
 new
line while reading and moving to the next line of text in sentences and

I don't think some are giving it a fair chance. It's different than 7.5
but
it does work well and it's really not difficult to use. I'm using it here
and haven't encountered any problems except for the jaws crashing that the
new update repaired. There is a bit more jaws cursoring than in 7.5 but
 not
all the difficult in my opinion.

Presumably this doesn't resolve the problems with avg 8. Hopefully someone
will try it out and let us know whether it works or not. I'd rather not go
through al the hassle I went through last week, upgrading to 8 and having to
revert back.
Cheers

I don't think some are giving it a fair chance. It's different than 7.5 but
it does work well and it's really not difficult to use. I'm using it here
and haven't encountered any problems except for the jaws crashing that the
new update repaired. There is a bit more jaws cursoring than in 7.5 but not
all the difficult in my opinion.

Previously, JAWS would announce blank.
 list end

 Microsoft Word
 list of 2 items
. JAWS now announces the Word Count dialog box statistics when you
 press

I don't think some are giving it a fair chance. It's different than 7.5
but
it does work well and it's really not difficult to use. I'm using it here
and haven't encountered any problems except for the jaws crashing that the
new update repaired. There is a bit more jaws cursoring than in 7.5 but
 not
all the difficult in my opinion.

[JAWS-Users] Jaws update question

2008-04-25 Thread Lisa
Hello everyone,
I'm a jaws 9 user and I'm considering downloading the newest update. Some
people are having problems with the new update, and others are not. If I do
install the update, and I have problems with itcan I go back to the original
version of jaws 9 that I'm using now? If so, how would I do this? I would
like to have this information just in case I need it.
Take care,
Lisa

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws update question

Hello everyone,
I'm a jaws 9 user and I'm considering downloading the newest update. Some
people are having problems with the new update, and others are not. If I do
install the update, and I have problems with itcan I go back to the original
version of jaws 9 that I'm using now? If so, how would I do this? I would
like to have this information just in case I need it.
Take care,
Lisa
