Hi, Adrian, Brian Zolo here in Gahanna, Ohio. I've been quite successful
with update issue resolution as well as solving other internet issues by
downloading a program called complete internet repair and it's quite
accessible with jaws. It's certainly worth checking out. Let me know if I
can be of further assistance. I'm also using windows 7 right now. I'll
eventually be upgrading to windows ten but will probably end up getting a
new laptop as my experience at work with windows ten has shown me that
there's far less problems with the caviat that I'm having to use a
proprietary version of windows ten developed for the Department of Defense.
I've just found that there isn't enough attention paid to sound and video
drivers when the department of defense just upgrades machines from windows 7
to windows ten. That's my $0.02 worth, grin! My windows 7 lapotp here is
an HP Zbook z17 which is a business laptop but I'm far more able to do
driver updates successfully with Dell as once you have your dell service tag
you can then just go to support.dell.com and put in your service tag and the
operating system you're using and get any drivers you need. The HP support
application s somewhat useable but not nearly as user friendly as Dell.
Take care and let me know if I can assist further. bZ!

The first time Windows update failed to install, I had to hire someone who
knew what he was doing to manually install the update. I'd first contacted
MS Accessibility. After an hour, they gave up and escalated. However, I
didn't get any follow-up until this past Sunday, more than a month later. By
then, the initial failure had been resolved. However, it's just happened
again. I haven't decided what to do. In the past, MS Accessibility was going
to solve another problem by reinstalling windows, which seemed to me much to
dramatic. In that case, too, I turned instead to an expert who made the fix
without trauma to my system, although some to my bank account.

I wish I had more confidence in MS Accessibility. For certain relatively
minor things, I'm guessing they're fine, but for anything complex, you
really need to monitor what they're up to. In addition, letting a month
elapse before acting on an escalated matter, especially when security is
involved, was unconscionable.

The short answer is that I have no idea how to solve this recurring Windows
update failure by myself. If someone on this list does, we'd owe them a free

There is some information on Google about Windows update and troubleshooting.
I Can't remember now but there is a folder that you can locate in the Windows

Sometimes you can delete this, I would need to look it up again but I think it
is inside the software distribution folder.

Thanks for your suggestion, Brian. I installed "Complete Internet Repair" and
ran the specific option to fix Windows update. Sadly, it hasn't solved the
problem. My tech guy tried for more than an hour to fix it, but in the end he
gave up and escalated my request. My online reading is suggesting something
about a corrupted file being the possible culprit, but I'm in no way qualified

Be happy that the so called software engineer didn't do a repair on Windows.
My Windows 7 Update was stuck and they spent a couples hours fooling around
inside the computer and finally escalated it to and engineer who spent most of
two days fooling around while I sat and listened to Jaws telling me what was
going on. He finally got the repair and Windows update working but he messed
up a lot of other things, can't remember all of them. I finally hired someone
to wipe the hard drive and re-install Windows 7. Things have been pretty good
for several months now except for problems with IE 11 which I believe are
caused by Jaws 18, I am running the same IE and Jaws on a Win 10 pc and things
are much smoother there . Tom

The first time Windows update failed to install, I had to hire someone who knew
what he was doing to manually install the update. I'd first contacted MS
Accessibility. After an hour, they gave up and escalated. However, I didn't get
any follow-up until this past Sunday, more than a month later. By then, the
initial failure had been resolved. However, it's just happened again. I haven't
decided what to do. In the past, MS Accessibility was going to solve another
problem by reinstalling windows, which seemed to me much to dramatic. In that
case, too, I turned instead to an expert who made the fix without trauma to my
system, although some to my bank account.

I wish I had more confidence in MS Accessibility. For certain relatively minor
things, I'm guessing they're fine, but for anything complex, you really need to
monitor what they're up to. In addition, letting a month elapse before acting
on an escalated matter, especially when security is involved, was
unconscionable.

The short answer is that I have no idea how to solve this recurring Windows
update failure by myself. If someone on this list does, we'd owe them a free
subscription!!

Good afternoon all!

I am writing because I am encountering an odd issue when trying to load JAWS
18 onto a Windows 7 operating system.

When I click on the J18.0.4534 executeable, it begins the process. At the
46 percent mark, an error message appears saying the following

JAWS Set-up package error, The JAWS set-up package could not install the
required component RunTimeJAWS. The process will now exit.

I'm looking for help with this issue. Any ideas would be helpful. Many thanks!

2018-02-27 Thread Adrian Spratt
Maria, I encountered this .net framework problem some time ago when trying to
install JAWS. An FS (now VFO) rep explained that JAWS relies on an old version
of this framework because certain braille and other devices that pair with JAWS
couldn't handle the current version. I could never get any kind of
reconciliation, but somehow the problem went away in later installations. I'm
sorry you're encountering it now. I'm not sure this is helpful, but maybe it's
something you can mention to whomever tries to help you.

There is some information on Google about Windows update and troubleshooting.
I Can't remember now but there is a folder that you can locate in the Windows
directory that the updates go in to.
Sometimes you can delete this, I would need to look it up again but I think it
is inside the software distribution folder.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem installing JAWS 18 on a Windows 7 machine.

2018-02-27 Thread Adrian Spratt

Hi Mike,

You might want to give Microsoft Accessibility a call. I had this problem
in the past, & it had to do with permissions. I'm not saying this is the
problem, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem installing JAWS 18 on a Windows 7 machine.

2018-02-27 Thread andy t
I had a problem installing jaws 2018 on a windows 10 machine the other day
and for some reason it wouldn't install because the UAC was sat to 0 when I
went in and sat it to 33 percent jaws installed no problem.

I just wonder if this could be the problem with this windows 7 computer?
It took me a while to find the problem but when I did it installed the first
time but I had never had this problem before.
