2014-04-21 Thread Liuda
I have never used Keyboard Remapper and never have done this before. I have
no idea how it can be accomplished. I am using Win 7. I do know that a
workable Applications Key would save me a great deal of time.
Thank you.

take the help mode of keyboard in jaws by pressing insurt+1, then
press the key, jaws will announce what ever the case may be. again
press insurt+1 to return to normal mode.

Trish, to the right of the spacebar comes the alt key first. Then
comes the should be working application key and next to that is
definitely the control key. There is no doubt about this, so I
assume the key that is non functioning has to be the application key
or this keyboard was invented and designed without an application key.

you know, next to my applications key going towards the alt key is a
key it also does nothing, could maybe the person maybe be hitting
that key instead thingking it's the application key?
If it helps any, I use a Microsoft wireless/bluetooth keyboard series
3000 I have only one window's key on the left side, but where another
windows key should be on right, is this key that does nothing. It's
inbetween the applications key and the alt key on the right.

Hi Anna,

I can't tell you why your applications key quit working but, try the
keystroke, shift + F10, see if that works. Sometimes laptop keyboards
don't have an applications key so, shift + F10, is another keystroke for
the

applications key / context menu. HTH

Hello. I have a new keyboard and the Application Key does not work at
all;
when pressed, there is only silence.

What is the other keystroke to have the Applications Menu appear,
something
 with a Function Key?

 Thank you very, very much.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Application Key does not work

2014-04-20 Thread Trish
you know, next to my applications key going towards the alt key is a key it
also does nothing, could maybe the person maybe be hitting that key instead
thingking it's the application key?
If it helps any, I use a Microsoft wireless/bluetooth keyboard series 3000
I have only one window's key on the left side, but where another windows key
should be on right, is this key that does nothing. It's inbetween the
applications key and the alt key on the right.

can u tell us which keyboard u r using? do some test which could
determine that the key is working actually. Say for e.g. put your
computer on screen saver where pressing any key returns to dextop.
Then press this key which will determine that the key is being
recognised by the system, however it may not perform assigned task. If
it is not working at all, request your supplier for replacement.

2014-04-20 Thread Liuda
Trish, to the right of the spacebar comes the alt key first. Then comes the
should be working application key and next to that is definitely the control
key. There is no doubt about this, so I assume the key that is non
functioning has to be the application key or this keyboard was invented and
designed without an application key.

So am I the only one out there that has an issue with their application key?
Does nobody else have an issue with the application reporting nothing when
pressed? perhaps is my ptoblem and not jaws,

Its not all the time and I have no idea when I lose it.
would be interested if anybody else has this issue.

I have seen this behavior 2 or 3 times using the beta. The Shift + F10
combo would not perform this function at this point either. I had way
too many applications and many IE9 Tabs open at the time. JAWS often
behaves strangely for me when memory gets scarce! I closed many windows
and restarted JAWS. The issue went away. I am not sure whether this is
worth reporting, since many applications, like VMware Workstation and
Excel, act strangely when memory gets scarce. That is why I got 8 GB
of memory when I bought my laptop, so this rarely happens.

Well I only have 3 gb of ram but certainly only a few programs open and
nothing of any size, I would be very surprised if it was a memory issue. I
am glad I am not the only one that has seen this and I am not sure that it
is a keyboard issue otherwise I would get the same fault when I reload jaws
and I never do , closing and opening jaws fixes it everytime.

Hi Graham,

Try the following to bring up the context menu;

1. Route the PC cursor to the JAWS cursor with Insert + NumPad + / PC Cursor
key.
2. Press the Minus key / Jaws cursor key.
3. Now, a Right Mouse click, which is directly to the left of the Jaws
cursor key.

Hope this helps. Take care.

I haven't herd of it anywhere else, and have not experienced it myself. I'm
win 7 home premium, jaws 13, office and outlook 2003.

it's a desktop, and I use my own Microsoft keyboard so I have one and it's
working as normal.

hmmm, I have run across some stuff similar to this on other machines and
OS's, like on XP machines after a wake-up from sleep or hibernation, and
normally had to shutdown and restart jaws to get my apps key menu's and
dialog box reading ability back, have you tried this? or is the menu missing
from the word go when you fresh boot?

**NOTE: if you already answered this, I apologize, I get a lot... of Email
(8 lists worth, or no nine now) so sometimes I mis, or mentally misplace
information.

the last thing I can think of right now is a not quite in sync with jaws
video driver, that can cause all kinds of havoc and odd reading or not
reading things.

Hi Rose,

My wireless keyboard doesn't have the application key
either. I use a sweet
little key mapping application called sharp keys to map
another key I don't
use to the application key. It's very easy to use and free.

No problems here in my keyboards that have the applications
key.
Unfortunately my laptop and cordless keyboards do not have
that particular
key and I often have to search to remember how I did this
before I had a
keyboard with an app key.

windows seven 64 bit jaws 12 and 13

I frequently lose the use of my application key, have no
idea what is
causing it but closing jaws and restarting it fixes it.

Anyone else suffer from this?

Hello Ann,

I can't b sure, but from what it sounds like, while you were routing PC to
Jaws, you probably accidently hit the right mouse button instead by
pressing
the insert key and the right mouse button, which is located just to the
left
of the minus key which is what you use in conjunction with the insert key
to

switch back and forth between the PC and JAWS cursors. What you probably
heard the computer say, was right button locked; so, all you have to do,
is press the insert key and the right mouse button again and it will say:
Right button unlocked and you're good to go.

Hope this helps.

In friendship,
Fina

Hi all,
I was routing Jaws to PC cursor and hit a wrong key combo and heard Jaws
state something locked.
I did not know what I did but Now I am trying to unzip a file using
application key and PC cursor only states contentsmenu with no applications
available such as open, print, 7zip...
I press Jaws key and Jaws speaks.
Does anyone know what locked or how to undo my hasty mess?
Thanks,
Ann

Hi Ann,

It sounds like you locked one of the mouse buttons, in which case, all you
have to do is hold down the insert key, then tap the * or / key to undo the
one you did.

Pressing insert plus those keys locks the mouse buttons in case you need to
drag something from one place to another.

You can toggle it on or off by using the same command, insert+one of those
keys.

Thanks Victor, I wondered why the key would lock.

You may have hit the top left key on the number pad; it's the one three keys
to the left of the jaws key. Try it. marilyn
