Re: [JAWS-Users] no need for third party anti virus on windows 8.1
I was under the impression that Windows Defender was taking the place of Microsoft Security Essentials, and that the basic program hadn't changed, only the name, but the protection was essentially the same. Is that not true anymore? Okay, if Vipre is no good, which anti-virus program can you suggest that is compatibel with JAWS and is not a hassle to uninstall? People on other lists have reporteddifficulty getting the latest versions of AVG and Avast to work with JAWS, and also trouble removing them. Re: [JAWS-Users] no need for third party anti-virus on windows 8.1
Well, the reviews I've read as well as comparison tests aren't that great for Viper. It only caught 74 percent of test viruses, compared to Norton and Kasperski which were at 89 percent, and AVG Free which was at 87 percent. Several people have had difficulty getting the installation to work on infected systems. See http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2410465,00.asp for a review of Viper 2013. Re: [JAWS-Users] no need for third party anti virus on windows 8.1
Hi Hamit, That's what I thought. Their in business to sell products, so they are using this particular software to help entice the consumer to spend money. Now, I am not saying that is bad, and I am certainly no security expert, and these are just my views and opinions. I am not trying to shoot down the product by any means, just want people to be clear that there is no perfect security solution. I do not pay for security software for 2 reasons: 1. Historically speaking when something comes along that works well with Jaws, that aspect is lost over time with software updates. 2. The average computer user has no idea whether or not the security software is actually doing what is advertised, other than the fact they aren't having any problems, which could also be due to safe computing practices. So paying for one doesn't guarantee that it will necessarily do a better job. Find one that is highly recommended in the Security community, is accessible with Jaws, and doesn't rob your computer's resources. And, if it is free, that's a bonus! Rick is correct about nothing protects all computers against all threats all of the time. I think you have heard the opinions of others and either you wish to get adventurous and try it out yourself or there is no way for you to have the full benefits of the paid version unless YOU purchase it yourself, one way or another. They cell it sometimes. Especially with new computers. But yeah, they talk it up like I said. Like it's the Gojira of antivirus programs. The cool thing is they got some deal where it's like DVD Audio Extractor. You buy it once and never again. You get the new virsions free. I also swear by Vipre and it is amazingly accessible with JAWS 12. I've had it for 4 years now and never one problem. I bought it for 2 years and have to worry less about it for a while. Re: [JAWS-Users] no need for third party anti virus on windows 8.1
No, you can't run two anti-virus programs together. They will potentially conflict. You can run another malware program for anti-spyware but not another anti-virus program unless you disable the other anti-virus program. If you want a decent malware program, get malwareBytes from malbytes.org Steve - Original Message - From: "Kathy Pingstock" To: Sent: Tuesday, January 14, 2014 3:03 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] no need for third party anti virus on windows 8.1 What third party antivirus is good, can you run that and mse too?
