Re: [JAWS-Users] no need for third party anti-virus on windows 8.1

2014-01-15 Thread Gerald Levy

Okay, if Vipre is no good, which anti-virus program can you suggest that is
compatibel with JAWS and is not a hassle to uninstall? People on other
lists have reporteddifficulty getting the latest versions of AVG and Avast
to work with JAWS, and also trouble removing them.

Well, the reviews I've read as well as comparison tests aren't that great
for Viper. It only caught 74 percent of test viruses, compared to Norton
and Kasperski which were at 89 percent, and AVG Free which was at 87
percent.

Several people have had difficulty getting the installation to work on
infected systems.
See http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2410465,00.asp for a review of
Viper 2013.

I also swear by Vipre and it is amazingly accessible with JAWS 12. I've
had it
for 4 years now and never one problem. I bought it for 2 years and have
to

worry less about it for a while. I love the automatic updates.

Hi Dan,
MSE only works up to Windows 7, and Windows 8 uses Windows Defender.
Not using Windows 8 right now, but don't see any reason why other security
software can't be used.

Others actively using Win8 will be able to advise you better than me.

They cell it sometimes. Especially with new computers. But yeah, they talk it
up like I said. Like it's the Gojira of antivirus programs. The cool thing is
they got some deal where it's like DVD Audio Extractor. You buy it once and
never again. You get the new virsions free. Very cool.

2014-01-14 Thread Rick Justice
Hi Hamit,
That's what I thought.
Their in business to sell products, so they are using this particular
software to help entice the consumer to spend money.
Now, I am not saying that is bad, and I am certainly no security expert, and
these are just my
views and opinions.
I am not trying to shoot down the product by any means, just want people to
be clear that there is no perfect security solution.
I do not pay for security software for 2 reasons:
1. Historically speaking when something comes along that works well with
Jaws,
that aspect is lost over time with software updates.
2. The average computer user has no idea whether or not the security
software is actually doing what is advertised, other than the fact they
aren't having any problems, which could also be due to safe computing
practices.
So paying for one doesn't guarantee that it will necessarily do a better
job.
Find one that is highly recommended in the Security community, is accessible
with Jaws, and doesn't rob your computer's resources.
And, if it is free, that's a bonus!
HTH,

Well, the reviews I've read as well as comparison tests aren't that great
for Viper. It only caught 74 percent of test viruses, compared to Norton
and Kasperski which were at 89 percent, and AVG Free which was at 87
percent.

Several people have had difficulty getting the installation to work on
infected systems.
See http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2410465,00.asp for a review of
Viper 2013.

See http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2410465,00.asp for a review of
Viper 2013.

Hi Hamit,
That's what I thought.
Their in business to sell products, so they are using this particular software
to help entice the consumer to spend money.
Now, I am not saying that is bad, and I am certainly no security expert, and
these are just my views and opinions.
I am not trying to shoot down the product by any means, just want people to be
clear that there is no perfect security solution.
I do not pay for security software for 2 reasons:
1. Historically speaking when something comes along that works well with Jaws,
that aspect is lost over time with software updates.
2. The average computer user has no idea whether or not the security software
is actually doing what is advertised, other than the fact they aren't having
any problems, which could also be due to safe computing practices.
So paying for one doesn't guarantee that it will necessarily do a better job.
Find one that is highly recommended in the Security community, is accessible
with Jaws, and doesn't rob your computer's resources.
And, if it is free, that's a bonus!

Hi Hamit,
That's what I thought.

Then why would HSN say that? Seriously they make it like it's Gojira.
Nothing gets passed it. I don't know maybe it's just me taking it as if they
exaggerate it that way.

I wouldn't go that far, no one program will catch them all.
It may have a lower instance of infections, but not fool-proof.

Rick is correct about nothing protects all computers against all threats all
of the time. I think you have heard the opinions of others and either you
wish to get adventurous and try it out yourself or there is no way for you
to have the full benefits of the paid version unless YOU purchase it
yourself, one way or another.
   Only my two cents.

Okay, cool. Yeah, it is accessable. I tried it, but the trial wasn't enough
to really tell if it was so strong. Especially as strong as HSN makes it out
to be.

I also swear by Vipre and it is amazingly accessible with JAWS 12. I've had
it for 4 years now and never one problem. I bought it for 2 years and have
to worry less about it for a while. I love the automatic updates.
