Hi all! The new window just opens your website in another window. The incognito window, means that you are in a private browsing window. It is the same as private browsing. Chrome just gives it another name. Have a great one! Here is my tutorial on using the Chrome browser pasted right below this line. Tutorial for Using the Google Chrome Browser By David Moore This tutorial will be done with the latest update of Chrome. I will also use JAWS 18 and NVDA 2017.2for this tutorial, because they both work the same in Chrome. Finally, I will use Windows 10 Creators Update latest public build. I will assume that you have downloaded and installed Chrome. There should be a shortcut on your desktop. Section One: Launching Chrome: One way to Launch Chrome, is to press the Windows key or CTRL+Escape and type Chrome in the search edit field, and press enter when you hear JAWS say Chrome. However, since you have already downloaded Chrome, You will have a shortcut icon on your desktop. So next, find the shortcut for Chrome on your desktop, and press enter to open Chrome. The short cut will actually say Google Chrome, so press G to find the Google Chrome icon on your desktop. The first very important step, is to press Windows+up arrow to maximise the window. Chrome often opens with the window not maximise, and you will get undesirable results. Section Two: Bringing up a web site. Press CTRL+L or Alt+D and type the following: www.freedomscientific.com The Freedom Scientific web site comes up very quickly. All navigation commands like: H for heading, E for edit field, C for combo box, and so on all work just the same in Chrome. Section Three: The Virticle Chrome menu: I will press the Alt key. The Chrome menu is open. This is a very large virticle menu that you just keep pressing up and down arrow through. I will press insert+up arrow to hear the first option in this menu. New Tab, CTRL+T. You can press that command right from the web site you are on. New Window, CTRL+N You can press these commands right from your web page, instead of coming here. New incognito Window. I will press right arrow, to open this. I hear, bookmark this page, CTRL+D That command will bookmark the page you are reading. Next down arrow, says show bookmarks bar, CTRL+Shift+B That command, will show your bookmarks on your Chrome browser for all to see. I do not want that. Here is the important one. manage bookmarks The command is, CTRL+Shift+O In here, you can organize your bookmarks into folders, see the bookmarks you have imported from different browsers, and very importantly, you can download, to your computer, an HTML file of all of your bookmarks in Chrome. On your computer, you can press enter on this file, after it downloads, and a page will show up in Chrome with a list of all bookmarks you have saved in Chrome. This is an awesome way to download all of your bookmarks right to your computer, so you can back them up. That is all for manage bookmarks. Next, I hear import bookmarks and settings. press enter on this, and you can import all bookmarks and settings from IE, and Firefox, right into Google Chrome, and they will be in their corresponding folders. Now, I hear all of my saved bookmarks as I continue to arrow down. Very important! Sometimes, when I open that bookmarks sub menu, I do not land on the choices I mension here, but instead, I start hearing my saved bookmarks. If this happens, I press up arrow a few times, and it gets me to these choices. Keep in mind, that many of these choices, like bookmark manager, have key commands, so you do not have to come to this bookmarks sub menu at all. You only need to come here most of the time, to arrow through your saved bookmarks, and enter on the desired one. To save a web site as a bookmark, Just press CTRL+D and press enter, and your bookmark is saved. I will now press left arrow, to close the Bookmarks sub menu! I always used to have "show pictures" off, but I discovered that if you print out something that has a bar code or QR code on it, the code will not print out. This cost me some money at a restaurant when I printed out an online coupon, only to find out that the restaurant wouldn't honor it because the coupon code didn't print out. When i turned "show Pictures" back on, the codes printed out again. Re: [JAWS-Users] Google Chrome help, please.
If you use JAWS 18 and need to navigate a table on the web, you can also invoke smart navigation by pressing JAWS Key (Insert)+X; this is a toggle. Once you turn on smart navigation, you can use the arrow keys to move one cell at a time left or right or up or down. If you do not have JAWS 18, once in a table, you would hold down the control and alt keys while using the arrow keys to move by cell. Re: [JAWS-Users] Google Chrome help, please.
Thank you very much. I do use Jaws 17. Here are my questions. Here are Google Chrome questions I have come up with so far. 1. When in an address bar, with Internet Explorer, I was able to press F6 to get back into the main page. How does one do this with Google Chrome? 2. I also have found that for instance on Amazon, that some checkboxes and combo boxes don't appear as such, and I cannot makeappropriate choices that I can see offered in internet explorer. 3. On Youtube, for instance, I could jump by headings or buttons, as the need arose, but don't seem to navigate as easily with Google Chrome. 4. On facebook, for instance, I do not find an events option when I want to check birthdays or other upcoming events. I could always see the link for that on my FB home page with Internet Explorer. The reason I would like to switch to Chrome is that I find it to work much faster. I have Internet Explorer 11, and it seems to get hung up with Jaws sometimes when trying to open a web site. I am using Jaws 18, I saw the same behavior in Jaws 17, and at times I would actually lose Jaws and would have to reload it. I'm sure I'll come up with more questions as they arise. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. Judy For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Re: [JAWS-Users] Google Chrome, can't install; Revo Uninstaller
Hi Adrian, I believe these older versions of Revo will only uninstall 32 bit programs, & if I'm not mistaken, Chrome might be a 64 bit program. However, I believe the new version of Revo will uninstall 64 bit programs, but I'm not 100% sure since I haven't played around enough with the new version to figure out how to use it. Take care. You need to use first letter navigation to do this or, use your arrow keys because I haven't found a way to put all the programs into list view. 2. With the program highlighted that you want to remove, open the context menu and press enter on uninstall. You will get a dialogue asking if you're sure you want to remove this program, tab to the yes option & press the spacebar. 3. Now it's time to choose the level at which revo uninstaller does its job. So, Shift + tab, into the options list. you have 4 modes Built-in, Safe, Moderate, & Advanced. I always choose advanced because some programs love to leave registry entries and little traces of themselves everywhere. These are radio buttons, so just choose the appropriate one. 4. Hit the next button and Revo will go to work and uninstall your program, so sit back for a minute or two. 5. This is when the fun really starts. After you hit the next button, Revo will display a number of left over files and registry entries from the program.hit the tab key and you should find a select all button, and a delete button. so first hit select all, followed by delete. You'll get a warning asking if you really want to do this? Answer yes. It'll then delete any files left over. Now depending on how the program is, it may next ask you to delete registry entries, this is the same as left over files. Don't worry, this is safe to do because it only deletes the registry entries that are for the application you're uninstalling, it won't delete anything else but that. So do the select all and delete thing again and answer yes. Sometimes, you might even see a screen that just has a tree view, but it has nothing displayed. In that case just do what you would normally do and hit select all and delete and that'll do it. After all that is done revo will display a dialogue with a finish button. Hit that, and you're done. you can then delete another program or close the program it's up to you. Sometimes you need to use the, Insert + F10, keystroke to open the Jaws task list & find the Revo remove option & press enter because you'll have landed on a blank window so you need to bring Revo back into focus. Yes, Flor, I went through the task manager and stopped all Google and Chrome programs running. The solution, as you guessed, turns out to have been one of my applications, LogMeIn. Why this should be so is beyond me. I finally called on my tech consultant who figured it out after half an hour of expert messing around. I hope this helps explain things a bit better. Take care. Mike Sent from my iBarstool. I've recently been using Chrome as my main browser under both Mac OS and Windows, with good results. On the Windows machine, it quickly loads complex documents that caused Firefox and JAWS to become unacceptably unresponsive. Flor Lynch wrote: > It does have its place, though. Re: [JAWS-Users] Google Chrome?
Hi Vickie Google.com is just a search engine pretty much. Google Chrome is an actual browser like IE or Firefox. Google Chrome is a very good browser, because it is very fast, and there is only one Vertical menu where everything is that you need. It is a good browser for streaming video. I have it set as my default browser. However, some sites work best in Firefox, and yet other sites work best in IE. I use all three browsers depending on which site I am getting on. The more tools you have, the better. I did a audio tutorial on Google Chrome. Let me know if you want me to send it to you as a link. Re: [JAWS-Users] Google Chrome, importing IE Bookmarks.
Hi Tim. Do you have a direct link to download Google Chrome for Windows 7, 64 bit? Thanks, Becky - Original Message - From: "Tim Ford" To: Sent: Thursday, November 05, 2015 8:30 PM Subject: [JAWS-Users] Google Chrome, importing IE Bookmarks. Hi Gerald, In Chrome, use the alt key to bring up the menus, cursor down to "bookmarks" and press enter. Arrow down and one of the items is "bookmarks from IE". If you do not find those bookmarks, repeat the steps above, and press enter on the import bookmarks line, then after that finishes, you should then see the bookmarks from IE in its own list. By the way, the Chrome menus allow first letter navigation, so after first hitting the alt key, pressing b pops you right to the bookmarks line. First, quite a few edit boxes will not allow you to edit what you type in. When you try and navigate by word or character you either get JAWS saying blank or nothing at all. This is really evident on Google's own home page in the search edit field. Secondly, you can use Control plus L to get to what Chrome calls the omni box. This is just the address and search bar. If I do a search here I can edit what I type in fine. However the problem is when I click on one of the links in the search results I get stuck in that omni box and cannot get to the page I clicked on. Thirdly, it is very difficult to work with bookmarks. The bookmark manager, similar to FireFoxs, does not work good at all unles you turn off the virtual cursor with JAWS plus Z. If it were not for these issues I would most likely be using Chrome as my default browser because it is very fast. Also you can get to the tool bars in Chrome very easily unlike in FireFox where I have to use the touch cursor to get to them. Hello Gerald, In Chrome the address bar has two functions. It can be a normal address bar or you can use it as a search bar as well. I've been using chrome for several months and really like it. I agree with all that David previously stated: Chrome is very responsive, very accessible and just great to work with. I still use I.E. for some things but Chrome is definitely winning me over. I'm using Jaws 16 on a Win 7 PC. Not sure about fs statement on this, but really, know reason to not use it. Infact, I think everyone should switch to chrome or something more secure. Its not good these days anymore to sit on explorer. You will find you much safer on chrome when doing banking and in general. On 05/11/2015, Cathy wrote: > I agree; I am anxious to hear the tutorial. Re: [JAWS-Users] google chrome
Yes, it's definitely fast. I wonder how wel it works for JAWS on GMail and Googlegroups pages? It would be best if we didn't have to use the basic HTML view, so I hope that'll be taken care of there at least. -Original Message- From: Brent Harding Sent: Sunday, March 08, 2015 8:37 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] google chrome The menu you get when hitting alt is definitely different, but for the most part, you can browse the net and do most everything one is starting to not be able to do so well with Win XP-vintage explorer any more. At times I find it faster than Firefox. - Original Message - From: "Flor Lynch" To: Sent: Saturday, March 07, 2015 9:14 AM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] google chrome I'm not sure you can say that about it. The menu structures are a bit different, and many of the usual keystrokes do nothing in it. It is very customizable; but how customizable can you make it and still be effective with JAWS? It is more responsive with JAWS16, and there seems to be more keyboard access, than used to be the case. -Original Message- From: Michael Capelle Sent: Friday, March 06, 2015 11:32 PM To: JFW List Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] google chrome it sure is, i use it every day, works just like firefox. -Original Message- From: Lenny McHugh Sent: Friday, March 06, 2015 5:19 PM To: JFW List Subject: [JAWS-Users] google chrome Is google chrome jaws friendly with the latest jaws?--- Please visit my web page It’s motivational, inspirational with a touch of humor There is also a very extensive resource list for the blind http://www.LennyMcHugh.com International Brotherhood of Magicians member #43990R For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/ For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
