From a conversation with Jim Ellsworth, as I recall it. Donggkles are
provided when JAWS users need repeat refreshes of authorizations.
the donggle essentially hardwires JAWS in current and future versions to
one's computer, avoiding the problem of authorizing with each upgrade.
It's not hard to see that the donggle, unless it has built in fraud
protection, could enable anyone to use JAWS without a license. So how
do I know? I had to request re-ups to my update authorizations twice in
the last six months due to computer issues. Yes, the donggle is
interesting. Anything to streamline the somewhat cumbersome
authorization process is welcome in my house.

Hi Jim,
Are you talking about, when Jaws goes into 40 minute mode for some reason?
Last week I called Freedom and was asking about the update to jaws15 and
gave them my jaws serial number and I have installed in two laptops.
Well, later on that date my other pc, which had jaws 14 since 2013 went into
40 minute mode.
I figured that was Freedom protecting the jaws ownership of the product.
I am sure that has happen to many users.
Are we on the same track, or I'm in a different one?

No, George. but arguably a donggle would have prevented an
authorization lapse (probably) for your J14. Freedom Scientific is very
cautious about distributing donggles, they say and use it for their
exasperated selves and customers when the latter have authorization
issues for some reason. Were you able to re-authorize your J14? .

purchase a Donggle. However, when I inquired about the Donggle I was
told that I had to fill-out a form and get approved for the purchase.
What is this form the sales person speaks of?. He said that he
would send it to me in an e-mail, but I never received it. I wanted
to inquire here about what it is before I start trying to follow up
on it. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jim,
Yes, I was able to authorize it.
I wrote to you off list back in June, cause I was hoping to meet you at the
NFB Convention in Orlando, but, you didn't reply.
I had a great time and participated in the opening ceremony with the
military Color guards.

No, George. but arguably a donggle would have prevented an authorization
lapse (probably) for your J14. Freedom Scientific is very cautious about
distributing donggles, they say and use it for their exasperated selves and
customers when the latter have authorization issues for some reason. Were
you able to re-authorize your J14? .

 Hi Jim,
Are you talking about, when Jaws goes into 40 minute mode for some reason?
Last week I called Freedom and was asking about the update to jaws15
and gave them my jaws serial number and I have installed in two laptops.
Well, later on that date my other pc, which had jaws 14 since 2013
 went into
 40 minute mode.
I figured that was Freedom protecting the jaws ownership of the product.
I am sure that has happen to many users.
Are we on the same track, or I'm in a different one?

From a conversation with Jim Ellsworth, as I recall it. Donggkles
are provided when JAWS users need repeat refreshes of authorizations.
the donggle essentially hardwires JAWS in current and future versions
to one's computer, avoiding the problem of authorizing with each upgrade.
It's not hard to see that the donggle, unless it has built in fraud
protection, could enable anyone to use JAWS without a license. So how
do I know? I had to request re-ups to my update authorizations twice
in the last six months due to computer issues. Yes, the donggle is
interesting.
Anything to streamline the somewhat cumbersome authorization process
 is welcome in my house.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Dongle

2014-09-14 Thread Mike Boyd

It's a very simple form, and FS only wants to know why you want the dongle,
and some basic information about you. Nothing very personal. I have one, and
it was very easy to get. I just told them that I traveled around a lot and
did not want to haul a computer around with me. I also was having to
reinstall JAWS often at that time, and FS did not like me requesting
Activations. The dongle will cost you $45, but I like having it. Now, I can
just plug it into any computer, and depending on who owns the computer,
either install the correct version of the program for their PC, or use the
latest portable version, which still requires the installation of the video
intercept on the computer, but this can be removed after use. One thing that
I don't like about it is that I have two laptops, and sometimes I want to
use JAWS on both of them at the same time. I am not sure if I can get
another one for $45, but I doubt it. Another thing, FS has the dongle rigged
up so that it will not appear in the list of drives in File Explorer or My
Computer. So, forget trying to make another copy. LOL.
